Excellent source of information if you are on an insulin pump but the number of acronyms, which are not consistently defined in one place, along with a dizzying number of charts, makes this a difficult book to read. It’s probably best to read the first few chapters and then look at the specific pieces you are interested in for the later chapters.

What EVERY insulin pumper needs to read. Sooooo much great information. Gave very technical information in a way that is easy to understand. This is the insulin pumper's Bible. I have gone back to it many, many, many times for reference. If you can't already tell I would HIGHLY recommend every insulin pumper purchase and read this book, you will learn a lot and go back to it for reference...I promise.

This book is great for any person who wants to truly understand how insulin pumps work, including type 1 diabetics, educators, clinicians, physicians, etc.

The pros: Very complete, includes ongoing research and up-and-coming advances in the artificial pancreas, which is very exciting to read about.

The cons: There is a process to using the pump, like mathematics. The authors not only recognize this fact, they repeatedly emphasize it. For example, you must have your basal rate perfected before making adjustments to bolus/correction. Unfortunately, the book is written whereas the topics are randomly out of order, forcing you to read certain chapters before others, and getting lost in the maze of information.

For beginners, I strongly recommend working with your diabetes educator and endocrinologist when reviewing this book and make notes of your questions and concerns. For advanced pumpers, like myself who have been on the pump for more than 20 years, I still learned a lot. =)

Extremely technical and detailed. I think this book could scare newly diagnosed Type1's simply because there is so much to absorb. Having had Type1 for 20+ years and pumping for more than half of that time, I still had to read parts of this twice to make sure I was understanding correctly. I will have to come back and reference this next time I need to make any adjustments, but after having lived with it for so long it was good to get a refresher on how the different calculations should be made.

Great book for pumpers! Comprehensive resource that goes over EVERYTHING you could possibly want to know about pump therapy. Might not be great for brand new pumpers as it might be a little overwhelming, but for a motivated pumper with some experience under their belt, I would highly recommend!

I’ve read and reread this book countless times. The chapter on exercise is a continual reference point for me. The book also has given me confidence to experiment dosing with pizza. I love the charts and put them into regular action.
