I always knew my shoe obsession would be the death of me. But I never guessed that murder would be involved.
My name is Raelynn Kitt. My friends call me Rae. My ex calls me Kitten, which is only one of the many reasons he’s my ex. But that’s not important. I have a confession to make. I’m Rae, and I’m a shoe-aholic. There are no church basement support groups for my addiction. No first-year chips to mark my progress in kicking the habit. Which wouldn’t matter anyway since I haven’t conquered it. Not even close. In fact, I blame my addiction for the recent chaotic turn of events in my life. Yeah, Karma is a jerk, and she just took a chunk out of my backside. All because I couldn’t walk past that cute little shoe store on the corner of Main and Fetter. That was where a woman popped out of nowhere and died at my feet. Where the last words out of her mouth were to call me a Traveler. Hm. Then there’s Justice. Not a legal concept, but a man who makes my heart stop for good and bad reasons. He thinks I’m a Traveler too. We’re not talking about the packing a suitcase to go to the beach type of traveling. Oh no. His kind of traveling involves monsters and visions. I don’t like his kind of traveling. But it’s starting to look like I don’t have a choice in the matter. Am I a Traveler? Dancing goddess in yoga pants, I hope not. Dang that cute little shoe store.

Wow! That was just so unbelievably fun. I don’t even know how to describe what I just went through with this book without giving the whole thing away. I loved Rae, adored Elvo, and I’m highly intrigued by Justice. The mystery successfully kept me guessing for the whole book and now I can’t wait until we get the opportunity to come back and do it again. I received a complimentary advanced copy of this book through Booksprout.
I have a new hero - Rae, a 57 year old retired police detective who never dreamed the turns her life would take when a stranger falls, latches on to her ankle and then dies at her feet. Fighting crime as a detective was dangerous, but the criminals she fights now, using her newfound abilities, are true monsters. Rae's not alone, a hot "guide" and his dog Elvo are by her side.
I loved this book and read it in one evening, I just couldn't put it down. Sam Cheever has the wonderful talent to weave a paranormal story and have the reader accept the fantastic adventures Rae is experiencing. Rae is smart, kind and not at all sure what's going on which makes her believable and likable. The story has twists and turns that keep you reading!
The next book is already on my e-reader! Thanks to the author for giving readers a heroine who can save herself, fights monsters, is funny and genuinely likable!
One Bounce Away from Cray is the firwst in the MIdlife Muddle series iwritten by Sam Cheever in which we meet Raelynn Kitt a 57 year-old retired detective and a shoe-aholic! Rae can't resist shoes! I really enjoyed this book! The adventures of Rae and Justice bouncing to different place was so imaginative! I cantt wait for the second book!I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Sam Cheever is the queen of fun, creative characters, and this new series shows her whacky mindset once more. Monsters and magic and shoes, oh my! Someone has to police the monsters, and this retired cop is just the woman to take it on - even if she literally just stumbled over the job. Great humor, creative storyline, and a fast pace will keep you reading into the night and immediately reaching for the next volume. Well worth the lost sleep!
I'm usually a fast reader but I kept trying to read this book to finish it and I finally gave up as it took me over 10 days to get 3/4 of the way through. I couldn't relate to the main character. She didn't act like a middle-age woman and I say that as someone who loves the Granny mystery series. I was disappointed as the premise sounded interesting.
I received a complimentary electronic copy of this humorous fantasy novel from author Sam Cheever. Thank you for sharing your hard work with me! I have read One Bounce Away From Crazy of my own volition, and this review reflects my honest opinion of this work. I am always happy to recommend San Cheever to friends and family. She has an excellent talent for combining a little horror, a bit of fantasy, and a barrel of humor into a compelling read.
Raelynn Kitt, 57 years old, is a retired cop, a self-confessed shoeaholic, and currently, a paranormal investigator. She and her friends are always up to something, their intentions are always good, and more often than not there will be a glitch in their get-along. Bounce is the first of a new series, Midlife Muddle, so I am so looking forward to number two.

Overview: Raelynn Kitt, don't call her "Kitten", is a former homicide detective turned shoe addict. The pain of the addiction is real. She just had to buy two new pairs of shoes, when she stumbles over a beautiful woman. The woman's last words are to call Rae a traveler. A man named Justice calls her that as well. So, what exactly is a traveler? Well, it might have something to do with the weird fight with the giant birds that Rae got dragged into. Unfortunately, her being a traveler is causing trouble. Can Rae, Justice, and Elvo solve this problem? Or will Rae be forcibly retired from the Travelers Force? Let's find out.
Dislikes: This book starts a bit confusing. It doesn't clear up until you reach about the halfway point. Part of this is a stylistic choice. The story is a first-person narrative tale, so we're stuck with a knowledge that our protagonist has.
One question: why did Rae call the cops after the body disappeared? If she had started the call after she ran into Mira, then she could have played it off as an accidental dial. Let's face it, Rae had no problem deceiving her allies later on in the book. I don't know why she chose to make herself look so foolish.
Likes: Elvo is an interesting mutt. And mutt, he is; he is half great pyrenes, and half hellhound. This makes him a stubborn dog that will only do what he wants to do, with the power to back his decisions up.
Justice did try to keep Rae and Kimmi alive. And Molly wanted to see Rae live to her full potential.
It is funny when Rae wakes up and realizes that Justice has discovered her paranormal romance collection.
Conclusion: This is a fun book, after you get past the halfway point of the novel. You need to have a strong ability to follow a confused protagonist with this series. Enjoy the read.
First book of Sam Cheever's new series and I am already hooked!!!! These characters immediately come to life and become people you would want to be friends with if only they weren't characters in a book!!! Amazing! We meet Raelynn Kitt, Rae for short, a 57 year old retired police officer who has recently retired and works off and on as security in her friend, Molly's, high end fashion store. Her life changes forever after tripping over a woman that materialized briefly in front of her, calling her Traveller Kitt, before dying and vanishing as fast as she had appeared. And that's just the first few pages!!! We meet Justice, a man who is just beautiful to look at but more powerful than anyone she had ever known. He, and his hellhound dog, Elvo, serve as her guides on the adventures on which she was about to embark. We also meet fellow Traveler, Kimmie, Juggler, a guide, and several other people as we enter other dimensions of earth, air, fire and water filled with monsters of all sorts. If you like non stop action, different worlds, awesome characters and humor spread throughout, this is the book for you! Can not wait for Book #2!!!!!!!.

Fun introduction to a new series, with really interesting world-building. Rae is a retired, divorced police officer in her 50s. She stumbles across a dying woman, and soon finds herself with a new career, a sexy sidekick (“Justice”) and a huge, lovable mixed breed hellhound. Rae has become a Traveler. She mysteriously gets directed to transport between a few other dimensions to help people or creatures. She has to learn how her new ability to "bounce" and her responsibilities work. There are many interesting side characters, touches of humor, some magic and entertaining plot developments. I downgraded one star because I had so many unanswered questions that future books in the series may resolve. For ex., I want to know more about the administration or organization behind the headquarters, how Rae is able to battle monsters effectively despite her advanced age, and whether Justice is just a sexy sidekick or if he’s a potential love-interest. I can’t wait to read more of Rae’s adventures in other books in this series. Entertaining book, and highly recommended series! I received an advance copy of this book for free and am leaving this review voluntarily.

Love Rae, Molly, Justice, and Elvo. Maybe even Rog. Maybe. There is plenty of snark, lots of action, and I laughed out loud more than once. Rae Kitt is a bored, retired police officer with a shoe fetish. She works part time as security for her friend Molly who owns a business in the less reputable part of the city. When she trips over a woman who unexpectedly landed on the sidewalk in front of her, she has no idea that her life is about to change forever. A strange man, who says his name is Justice, calls her a traveller and "engages" her powers, whatever the heck that means. The next day she sees flashes of another place, then suddenly she is gone from Molly's store and standing in the middle of what looks like a park with a huge dog, a giant bird, and....Justice? WTF?
I will leave you to find out what is going on. There are strange creatures, a hybrid hellhound, and even vampires. Yep, vampires. This series is going to be sooo good. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
ONE BOUNCE AWAY FROM CRAZY is a rollicking paranormal women's fiction adventure and the first installment in the new Midlife Muddle series by Sam Cheever. Ms. Cheever has a way with words and story telling. Her vivid descriptions of people, magical places and the unexplainable will keep you entertained with her great characters and witty dialogue that draw you in and keep you eagerly turning pages.
Raelynn Kitt is a respected, decorated police officer forced into retirement. Her greatest joy any more is buying shoes. Yes, turned into a shoe-aholic. That is until she trips over a body that vanishes before 911 can respond. Now she thinks she may have lost her mind. Weird visions, suddenly in a different places, monsters attacking. And strangers calling her Traveler Kitt.
Get ready for laughter, confusion and, lovable and frightful monsters. Even a lovable Hellhound.
I look forward to seeing what trouble, ahem, adventures Rae and her new friends get into next.

Dead bodies and hunky heroes. If that were not enough trouble, now our heroine seems to have magic as well. This is not at all what she expected when she started her day.
This is book one of the series, so a perfect place to start.
This is an urban fantasy/paranormal story, whichever you are most comfortable with. Like all the stories I have read by this author, it is well written and easy to read with a well developed cast and setting. I really like our heroine who has a personality somewhere between playful and snarky. And our hero does an excellent job of bringing out both. The plot is a good one as well, full of action, intrigue and mystery which combine to make things move at a good pace. All of this makes for a very entertaining story and I look forward to more in the series.
Highly recommended.

Wow, this story line starts out strong and keeps growing! Raelynn Kitt is a retired cop with a shoe addiction. (I am not confessing to that same condition, but I bet I own more than she does!) When a small shoe store catches her eye, her strange life is about to begin. A woman suddenly appears in front of her identifying her as “Traveler Kitt”. The woman dies and vanishes right in front of her with no further explanation!
Rather than leaving readers in the dark and confused, we find out about Justice, the person not the concept, and his hellhound, Elvo, who will help Rae with her new skillset so that she can live to see another day, all while strange unexplained things are happening all around her. Oh, and there is still a mystery for her to solve too! Who ever said retirement would be EASY???
The title of this book intrigued me so I chose it without reading the description. It took me a bit to get into it. I like books about time travel, but giants and monsters and alternate dimensions aren't really my thing. However this book is the exception to that rule. I absolutely love Rae. She is a 57-year-old divorced ex-cop and shoe-aholic. She is funny, irreverent, and relatable with a quick tongue. The dialogs are funny but the situations she finds herself in are not. The monsters are the stuff of horror movies. There is action galore as she and Justice bounce from one world to the next. I really enjoyed this book and look forward to seeing Rae again. Thanks to Booksprout and the author for giving me a free copy and allowing me to step out of my usual mystery genre for a good romp between worlds
Raelynn Kitt is a middle-aged, retired cop, with a self-proclaimed shoe fetish, working as a nighttime security guard at her friend’s posh establishment. Her life is pretty mundane, that is, until she literally trips over the body of a mysterious dying woman. Almost immediately, her life is catapult into an alternate reality consisting of horrific monsters, violence, and out-of-body experiences. Her constant companion is a doggish hellhound and centuries old – thirty something looking hunk of testosterone. What could possibly go wrong? A woman’s paranormal cozy murder mystery of middle -aged proportions that’s funny, relatable, and adventurous. Rae is a hoot and Justice; well, he is a sexy warrior that just happens to be the right (looking) age for this fifty something powerhouse. Well-developed characters and an original storyline make this a delightful story.
Retired cop Rae has serious shoe addiction issues. So on the way out of a store guiltily clutching her new purchase she runs into and then falls over a woman who utter the strange words “Traveler Kitt” while holding onto Rae tightly.
This is where all of Rae’s wild and hilarious adventures begin with her Guide the luscious Justice and his sidekick hellhound Elvo (I am certain Elvo and I would be instant friends! and my Chewbacca of cat would ride him around the coffee room) . They go after supernatural bad guys and there are plennnnnty of them.
Hilarious story, charming main character with a sweet, ragtag crew of pals and an absolutely worthwhile read
Raelynn Kitt is on one of her shopping excursions. After purchasing (another) pair of shoes, she's heading towards home when a lady drops dead at her feet. She had just enough time to grab Rae's leg and say a couple of words. Rae's life is now changed forever. She's a traveler. She jumps from one plain to another when someone is in trouble.
This is the first book in a new series from Sam Cheever. It's a fun story with unique characters and a good bit of humor. I'd like to thank Booksprout and author Sam Cheever for letting me read this Advanced Reveiw Copy.
One Bounce Away from Crazy by Sam Cheever is a different type of book that I normally read, but it was a nice change of pace. Kit is a retired policewoman who, under strange circumstances, becomes able to travel to different dimensions in a effort to save victims from various dilemmas. There are giants, monsters, vampires and other paranormal creatures. This is a story that will entertain. The plot and characters are well developed - in a strange sort of way - and will keep you turning pages. I enjoyed this book after I figured out what was going on. Enjoy.
Perfectly detailed characters which you quickly adore and the storyline is phenomenally explosive. The subtle beginning of the teamwork goes from strength to strength and the adventures encountered are full of action and expanding skills. Wonderfully written series which is a joy to read and immensely entertaining, very hard to put down. Exceptional talented story telling.A perfect series for anyone loving to read about fantastic adventures with lovable characters.
One Bounce Away From Crazy is a fantastic introduction to this new paranormal/fantasy series! The world building is wonderfully creative! The characters are unique, a little quirky, a little snarky and a whole lot of fun! This book is full of action, adventure, magic, monsters, vampires, inter-dimensional travel and, let’s not forget, Elvo the hellhound! This series is off to a fabulous start!.

This was another great read from another new to me author. I love the way the characters interacted with each other and I wanted to be a part of it. I can’t wait to see what is going to happen next. If you enjoy visiting different worlds and meeting different characters, whether they be human or monster, then you will enjoy this story.

I love the story and setting of this new series, but I'm not completely sold on the heroine. She is a bit too naive for a 57 years old, even with all the paranormal activity going around her, and I suspect she wouldn't have survived long as a cop/detective with the aptitude she has shown so far. I'm hopefull that she will improve in the next books.

This is the first book of a new series and I can't wait for more! The characters are relatable and reading the book feels like coming home. The premise is interesting and fun and, in the way that Sam Cheever does best, the characters are flawed but lovable. Another great story and a wonderful beginning to a new series! I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
well, it is not what I thought it would be, from the title, but WOW! This was a fantastic story line!. I was at the edge of my seat thru out the book. An ex police lady is unexpectedly tossed into a realm of others and finds herself 'employed' in a dangerous new job. Each character we meet is more interesting than the last, and Ms. Cheever even tossed in a totally unexpected ending. I sure hope we can enjoy more of Traveler Kitts' adventures.
Do like older lady stories, she falls over a body who makes her a time traveler when they die, along comes a guy and his dog to help her out when she discovers she can "bounce" to an area where they are in trouble, lots of surprises while they look for the killer, along with some laughs, waiting to see what happens next.

What a great start to a new series! Rae finds herself literally thrust into a new world filled with monsters from movies! She has a new power and purpose as she tries to understand her nee reality. Luckily she has a handsome guide and awesome hound to help her through this new reality. I LOVE where this series is heading and can't wait to read more of Rae and Justice! This series is going to be incredible!
Retired cop Rae leaves a shoe store with her latest pairs when she trips over a woman lying on the sidewalk, and everything goes sideways. Justice turns up with a giant dog, saying she needed to have Traveler training when a vision takes her away to an unknown land. This story has plenty of action with all kinds of creatures and sharp knives, ending with a cliffhanger. Very highly recommended.

This was not my usual go-to genre, but as a new to me author, the title intrigued me. I’m not one for time travel stories, to me, they are hard to follow. This one wasn’t too bad. It had an intriguing plot and characters seemed to develop well. It was hard to follow at times and I found myself going back to re-read something I had read prior to make something make sense. Overall not a bad story, but to me, it was a struggle to finish.
This is not what I expected at all. It was a fast-paced book with something erupting from the left, then the right, and oh watch out, here the action comes again. I just love the action in this book. It’s been the first fantasy that I have read in a while and I’m so glad that I did. All it takes is one shopping spree for shoes and suddenly you find yourself in another world! 🙂
