The Guardians #1

The Negotiator

Rate this book
For the Negotiator, talk is never cheap. In a moment, he has to make connections with the crazed and the desperate and the lost. He has to promise, cajole and placate. Success is a rush. Failure would cripple a lesser man. Above all, he must stay detached.

Beck Winters is the Negotiator.

Despite everything he's seen and done, Beck's still sane, but only because he never allows himself to get close to anyone. Then during a hostage incident, he hears a voice over the phone line, Jennifer Barclay's voice.

Jennifer's in the wrong place at the wrong time. Her plan has always been to avoid excitement. But that was before she was taken hostage...before the incident ended badly...and before she met the Negotiator.

Beck Winters lives for his job. It's not 9-5, it's not suit and tie and it's definitely not safe. He's a negotiator for the SWAT team. Jennifer Barclay lives for her job. It's safe, structured and predictable. She's a school teacher. One tragic day Beck and Jennifer's lives cross paths and they are both changed forever. Jennifer wants answers as to what happened that day but Beck can't tell her. Keeping secrets is what Beck does best, but the one secret he needs to tell is that he's in love with Jennifer. A action packed, emotional roller coaster read that leaves you sighing at the end.

Sometimes you just need to read a little fluff. This old Super Romance series was fun back then and it's a good way to relax now. Basic premise: Swat Team negotiator falls for a hostage from one of his call outs. Highly improbable, but a decent way to start a novel. They have their ups and downs, jobs get in the way, a touch of PTSD, and eventually we hear wedding bells.
