When Christ Comes

Rate this book
Would you like to discuss the end of time? And feel better because of it? Life with no end? Space with no bounds? And what about Armageddon, The Lake of Fire, The Mark of the Beast? Am I supposed to feel good about all this? If these words could be yours, you aren't alone. There is much about the end of history we don't understand. But while thoughts on the final day will stir our questions, they needn't stir our fears. Regarding that day, Jesus urged, "Don't let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God, and trust in me" (John 14:1). Max Lucado believes the day Christ comes will be the "beginning of the very best." Our primary task is to be prepared and peaceful while we wait. If you have some questions about the end of time ... If you have concerns about what will happen to you ... If you like to look to the end of times as a source of comfort and not chaos ... You are holding the right book.

When Christ Comes Home is about how Christ will arrive in His glory in His Time. In this book Max Lucado addresses our impatience to see Jesus and how awesome His return will be. He also touches on what Christians should be doing in the meantime. At the end of the book, there is a study guide which you can use to reinforce what you are reading.

I've always enjoyed Max's books and this one was no exception. I like the structure of the book, short chapters with insightful passages and personal stories. Max is pretty funny at times. I like that more often than not he is laughing at himself. But more important than the humor, is the truth he presents. He addresses difficult questions like when is Christ coming back? What should Christians be doing in the meantime? Is there really a Hell? What will it be like in Jesus' presence? Of course he does not know the definitive answer, but using biblical truths he gives us a pretty good idea!

After reading this book, I was encouraged to speak out more about my faith and share how Christ is working in my life. It also caused me to stop and examine how my activities are reflecting the love of Christ.

A powerful reminder that the church, the body of believers, is the bride of Christ and all that that should mean to each individual Christian.

One of my friends said to me, "If God is love and He loves us how could He send people to hell?"
I think Lucado has a simple explanation of it.
God does not send people to hell. He simply honors their choice. He has never forced us to choose Him, even when that means we would choose hell.

Just look at the gifts he has given you:
He has sent His angels to care for you, His Holy Spirit to dwell in you, His Church to encourage you, and His Word to guide you. Anytime you speak, He listens; make a request and He responds. He will never let you be tempted too much or stumble too far. Let a tear appear on your cheek, and He is there to wipe it. Let a love sonnet appear on your lips, and He is there to hear it. As much as you want to see Him, He wants to see you more.

Be faithful and prepared 'cause in the last day God Himself will look you in the eye and bless you with the words, "Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master's happiness!" ~ Matt.25:23. With that in mind, let me urge you to stay strong. Don't give up. Don't look back. Let Jesus speak to your heart as he says, "Hold on to what you have, so that no one will take your crown" ~ Rev.3:11

I love the image the author gave to us about our relationship we have with God.
He said that we are engage with Christ and when He will come will be our wedding date.
So, we are engaged, set apart, called out, a holy bride. Forbidden waters hold nothing for us. We have been chosen for His castle.
!Don't settle for one-night stands in the arms of a stranger!

We are engaged to royalty, and our Prince is coming to take us home.
(When Christ comes, we will dwell in the light of God. And we will see Him as He really is.)

I am not inclined to read much religious literature - or practise much religion, actually - but this proved a pleasant enough read. As the title suggests, it is a book loosely referencing the second coming of Jesus Christ which addresses several points of concern surrounding that momentous event. Before you start thinking this is another work of heavy-handed hell-fire-and-brimstone, let me assure you it isn't. In fact, I'd call it a spiritual lightweight, favoring a rather laidback approach that makes reasonable and pertinent statements, most with Biblical references, without a lot of pretentious filler (in at least one instance he openly acknowledges that his is only one of many views). Christian literature can be heavy-handed, but I found Lucado's near-nonchalance refreshing. This book probably won't be of much interest for the devout and practicing, or those looking for real in-depth analysis. But I definitely recommend it as Christian reading for those looking for a bit of straight and narrow, for those still questioning, and for those just looking for a quick pick-me-up. The material is rather unaffected by time, and I found it as relevant now as when first published. But I gave it 3 stars instead of 4 because his writing gets a little too "cute" for me at times, and some of his tangents could have been done better. But all in all, a much better (and more painless) read than I expected.

Though often filled will speculation, Lucado does a wonderful job of getting us to think about what it will be like when Christ returns, but also what this return means to how we live now. The difficult issue of Hell and eternal punishment is attacked head on, leaving little room to wonder about the truth of this doctrine. Overall, an uplifting book that takes a while to get started, but once it does, it will hold your interest.

A very reassuring and empowering look at Christ's return. I learned to look forward eagerly for His return. I learned a great deal by reading this book and it explained some of the misconceptions about the end times. It is a very easy read and good for most everyone.

One only has to see that he's written the equivalent of Danielle Steele to wonder what's going on here. It's fluff with some good stuff in and sadly this is probably what can be said for American Christianity.

When Christ Comes is another one of my favorite nonfiction Christian books. This is also one that I have recommended and gifted many times over the years. I love Max Lucado books. He is a great story teller and I love how he relates those stories to God and His love for us. Whenever I read one of his books, it feels like he knows what questions I am going to ask or what fears I have and I know I can count on him to address them all according to Scripture. This book leaves me with such a peaceful feeling about what is to come. ❤️

Was passiert, wenn man stirbt? Wie kann ich wissen, dass ich errettet bin? Warum muss es die Hölle geben? Was passiert, wenn Jesus wiederkommt?

So much of this book is the lovely truth of the gospel of Jesus Christ! That truth is always five stars!!

A little criticism about the book itself. First, this book is not titled properly. The title of this book should be “Death Comes for the Christian- and What to Expect.” This book is absolutely not about the end times or the rapture of the church.
Second, I appreciate that this book was written well over 20 years ago, and that social norms have changed. However, some of the metaphors did not age well.

The compelling telling of the rapture and beyond, this book answered many questions and helped me feel stronger and (probably more anxious) for the rapture to actually occur.

I never did finish this, I thought it would be based on scripture (which it mainly is) but not by an LDS writer (he's a Baptist minister, i think) so didn't want to read non-gospel info.

Good study of the end of time when Christ returns to call us Home. Very interesting insight and very encouraging to those of us who know we are going with Him, kinda scary for those who are not.

This book wasn't the best book that I've read by Max Lucado, but it was still very good. The book had an amazing message about the coming of Christ, and it helps readers to look at the coming of Christ with excitement. The book uses scriptures to look at some of the questions that many people continue to ask about the second coming of Christ, and Lucado also uses some interesting stories and metaphors to help the reader make sense of what the Bible says about the second coming of Christ. I would recommend this book to anyone who has questions about the second coming of Christ or who just needs a little inspiration in their lives.

Four stars for emotional people.
Two stars for logical people.

The book is not about the final return of Jesus so much as it is a bunch of feel good ramblings. It’s not a bad book, and is Bible backed, but for a Bible backed detailed step by step explanation of Jesus final return try a book by Todd Hampson. Do not let the dad jokes and cartoons put you off. Those books contain a wealth of biblical information.

This book by Lucado is like a warm hug. Nice and comforting but contains no facts.

The Bible contains eschatology--prophecies of the end of time. Christians interpret these prophecies in a variety of ways. Max Lucado's vision is slightly different from John Hagee's or Cliff Goldstein's or Tim LaHaye's, but only slightly. One way or another, Christians believe, we go on to a better kind of life. Trying to imagine the details has often led to remarkably unedifying quarrels but, if you enjoy imagining the as-yet-unknowable, you'll enjoy this book.

I’m never disappointed with his books. This one however, exceeds them all. He explains the resurrection and our relationship to Jesus Christ because of that in such simple terms a grade school child could understand it. All of this without being patronizing in anyway. I absolutely love to this book. Highly recommended.

Max Lucado books are so fun to read and I breeze right through them. I’m preaching on the Rapture and this book gives several potential illustrations. This book is a good reminder several different aspects to and perspectives of His coming. Great book!

The timeframe of this book stole my conceptual understanding. I will need to reread at some point.

Much to look forward to for those who believe.

Of the Matt L. books I’ve read so far this one didn’t seem to sink in as much; I blame a lack of consistent focus however when reading.

This is an excellent book written beautifully by a great author. He explains the great mystery of death and the end of time using God's Word in a very simplistic and comforting way. I highly recommend this book for everyone.

I really liked this one and it gave me hope to hang on and wait for Jesus to return. How great that day will be! Some days I feel down and alone but I see now that I am his bride, waiting for her groom to take her home. I am not alone, I have him.

Una gran obra que habla del reino eterno de Cristo y detalles que aunque muchos filosoficos, basados en la Palabra de Dios. Al mismo tiempo añaden esperanza en la vida eterna que nos espera a los hijos de Dios.

Loved this book, but especially the last chapter with the story about the hamster falling inside of the piano. What a great story to illustrate the big message! Lol
