This is the first book I ran across which put forward the thesis that Jesus was a vegetarian. Skriver was a minister of the Evangelical Lutheran church in Germany for 25 years. It is well thought out, and Skriver has read a bunch of scholarly literature in German that isn't readily available in English, or isn't available at all in English.
The book “The Forgotten Beginnings of Creation and Christianity” by Carl Anders Skriver argues that the original teachings of Jesus and the early Christians were radically different from the doctrines of the mainstream churches. The book claims that Jesus and his followers were vegetarians who respected all forms of life and opposed violence and oppression. The book also claims that the early Christian movement was diverse and pluralistic, and that the orthodox doctrines were imposed by later authorities who distorted the message of Jesus and suppressed alternative views. The book challenges the readers to rediscover the forgotten beginnings of creation and Christianity and to adopt a more compassionate and ethical lifestyle.
The book was first published in German in 1977, and was translated into English by Keith Akers and Angela Ingle in 1990. The book is based on Skriver’s extensive research and knowledge of ancient texts and languages, as well as his personal experience as a former Jesuit priest and a vegetarian activist. The book has received positive reviews from some readers and critics, but has also faced criticism and opposition from some conservative Christians who disagree with its views and methods.
