They say revenge is a dish best served cold...

But I'd rather serve it hot, with a side of humiliation.

The Icons got what they wanted. My life is a smoldering wreck because of them.

But that doesn't mean I'm done fighting.

What I did to Trent is just the beginning. He deserves so much worse for what he's done to me.

West and Reese are no better. They told me they cared about me, but when it mattered most, they took his side over mine.

My body still craves all of them.

But my broken heart?

It just wants to take all of them down.

This is book two of the Clearwater University duet, a new adult reverse harem bully romance. Due to language and sexual situations, it is recommended for readers 18+.

Spoilers ahead.

So much for her resolve and her revenge. The starts off with her boohooing about her attraction and her body craving theirs. It’s gross. I don’t know what the hell is wrong with this author, but no self respecting woman would pine after a man that got her kicked out of university, bullied her for years, constantly accused her of lying, and ruined her relationship with her only living parent.

Then she turns around and sleeps with him the fist interaction she has? Gross.

The Reese shit was stupid too, she went from screaming at him to kissing him. Then screwing him. Seriously don’t even understand the point of this book other than to show that our leading lady is an idiot.

Then she did the same thing with West. He said some pretty words and she just melts into him and kisses him. I seriously don’t know how I finished this trash.

This book was the same as the first one, zero progression and zero revenge. All Emma did was continue to sleep with them, obsess over them, and boohoo about wanting revenge. I honestly don’t know if I’ll be able to force myself to read the next one.

*Sigh*

Is it better than the hot mess 1st book? Maybe?

I mean, this one takes a sharp left turn and the guys and Emma all decide that her roommate is The Enemy. I mean, yeah, she’s shady but the author does not sell this plot line. It felt like she just decided what all the readers had already figured out long ago… it was time for the guys and Emma to stop fighting and revenging. So she (finally) abruptly drops that conflict and has them all focus on the jealous roommate. They are acting like she is the devil but we aren’t given much evidence of this, so it all feels empty and silly.

Emma has sex with all the guys, but not together. Yet.

Bottom Line? Meh. 2.5 ⭐️s

Read other books by this author in the future: yes
MC: Emma, Tent, Reese, West
SC: Leslie, Paul, Clair

At the end of book one Trent destroys the project and they fail their class, which means that Emma is no longer allowed to attend the university as she disobeyed the rules of her enrolment. But Emma now wants revenge for destroying her life and she finds help for herself. But the the help and her Dad too turn on her and her enemies try to protect her. Strange world. I enjoyed the book, All the measures are quite tough but this is fiction.

It was a fast and entertaining read, I enjoyed it and looking forward to the next book.

These characters are very deep and developed. They all really grew on me, but especially Reese and West who decide they don't want to follow Trent around and carry out his vendetta against Emma. They step up and try in their own ways to make amends, wiggling their way back into our heroine's heart.

I still didn't get the answers I was looking for in book 1 in regards to how they actually treated Emma in the past, and with the way the story is developing, I don't believe I will get them. However, the plot and the characters remain interesting.

I love the way each of the characters don't quite know how to describe or categorize their feelings towards each other:
The guys are at a standoff with each other because they disagree with how to go about Emma - they love each other and they hate each other - and by participating in bullying Emma, they hate themselves too.
But, they're also torn about how they feel about Emma - West and Reese get their heads out of their butts to see how much she means to each of them, and they are now willing to fight for their own relationship with her.

Trent, on the other hand, is still oscillating between hate and love. Vengence and desire. He realizes he doesn't know the full truth of the past, and while he still blames Emma, he doesn't want to let his emotions lead him down a darker path. And he thinks with everything said and done with Emma, he might not stand a chance with her anymore anyway.

And then we are left with poor Emma. She continues to put her trust in the wrong people, and the realization of betrayal from those closest to her makes it hard for her to even entertain the idea that the guys have turned over a new leaf. She's lost everything and everyone and has nothing to turn to. Can you imagine now having to forge a fragile alliance with those proven to be untrustworthy?
She's been put in tough situations time and time again.

With all that said, I didn't rate the book higher was because I found the change in the progressive narrative to be a bit of a cop-out. Having the characters mend fences because there is a bigger threat they have to face together, and then after that everything becomes fine and dandy, is a weak approach at having the opposing characters finally come together. They have yet to actually work through their resentment towards each other and having this looming threat thrown in to shift the perspective and the hatred to a different character took away a lot of the impact of crescendo the story had begun building from book 1.

Loved how this story turned around half way through. Im trying to say what i mean without giving away any major storylines (a tough one) but it was just brilliant and i never saw any of that coming either. Book 2 in this series continues with Emma (FMC) still at war with Trent, West and Reece but shes determined to up the stakes and not let them get the better of her. It leads to a book where everyone has very little trust of each other. A situation of their own making. Such a great read though and a damn fine ending too

Predictable. This had more sex and less acting and even less talking.still childish . you messed with a hacker that had the obvious hots for the three ugly inside dudes . And you really didn't
think she had enough smarts to wreck your world?? Man she got paid to do it. Should have went with having her arrested for haking for hire not hacking into school .... oh we bemoaned how we treated the ,shall I say stupid girl . then we think how we might have been wrong omg ! I can't even with this .

*"These men and I have been in a vicious cycle of fighting and fucking and fighting and fucking."*

Eva sums up the whole Trilogy in one sentence. That is this is about. THAT IS THE STORY!

Trent has a tantrum, he somehow ends up finding Emma to burst out on her. Emma yells back and somehow that leads them to be horny and now, they are fucking.

Meanwhile Reese and Emma fucks when Emma is down and cry. (After the Laudromat scene)

Our big boy West tries to be a gentleman. I think except for bed, they had sex everywhere else.

*sigh* how wasn't it obvious that Leslie is wrecking Emma's now because she likes/wants Trent for herself. Like how difficult is that to figure it out? HOW?!

Despite the cons of this book, I like the swift twist. That was one thing I didn't predict about this story. Leslie turning her back on Emma, and Trent acting like a grown up, other two men finally having the balls to man up.

I knew it would get worse, but here I am continuing because I need to know what happenes next 😂 The fact that she so easily trusts them again blows my mind! Even though from their pov chapters, as the reader, I know they have changed their tune towards her, but she doesn't know that!!! The plot also took a complete turn I wasn't expecting and now seems to overshadow how what they SHOULD be doing is groveling like he'll to her! But with the way the story is going, if there is any groveling it will be minimal and nothing up to par for what this fmc deserves! And how she still craves these guys is beyond me! I wouldn't want them to touch me or talk to me ever again!

Already owned the book, but I was given the Audio version to review.

I Give this Book a 4/5 Star Rating.
Audiobook Rating: 4/5, couldn’t be a full 5/5 due to hearing the many ‘skip/pause’ sounds on the Female Narrator’s part later in the book.
Other wise it was good! Love the Male Narrator voice even more!

Cliffhanger(?): Yes!
Heat: 4.5/5
Romance: 3ish/5, its not a bad thing - it’s subtle/low fitting the book.
Suspense: 4.5/5
Drama: 3.5-4/5
Bully Scale: 3/5

No Spoilers!
I have an idea who is responsible for the drama at the end of the book, man...I wonder what gonna happen next!
It’s getting really good! I hope the next book will get super steamy!
Looking forward to Book 3!

Like with her first book, I can definitely notice a difference in the writing compared to her newer works. It was a fast and easy read—I finished it in under 24 hours! I didn’t expect that twist at all, and I’m curious to see how everything unfolds. As for the spice, it wasn’t as much as I usually prefer, but when it was there, it was definitely enjoyable!

So we know in Who Breaks first we get introduced to Emma, and her tormentors Reece, Trent and West. We know what happened in book one, I hope you have read Who Breaks First because I feel that it is needed to read in order. So if you haven't, stop reading this review and go and read Who Breaks First. Now, Book two starts off after the big ending in book one. Emma has been kicked out, she is trying to pick up the pieces and form a plan to get back at the guys. She is not in a good relationship with her dad. She literally does not have a place to stay. Enter her friend Leslie, she offers her a place to stay and to help her seek her revenge on the guys.

Except all is in not well in the brotherhood. Do they each regret what happened? Is their relationship the same? What happens when each one of the guys want Emma, just not together. Can they band together to figure out a way to make things up to the woman they each love, or will this tear them apart? You will get these answers and more.

Overall, this had some twists and turns I was really not expecting. The guys really needed to make up for what happened in book one, I will leave it to you to decide if they succeed. I can tell you that Emma shows just what lengths she will go to, to have her revenge. But what will happen when maybe she starts to understand the guys more. We get a look more into why Trent is like he is. We get glimpses into the guys that is much needed and I enjoyed learning. I think this was an excellent addition with a betrayal I did not see coming. Book three will hold the answers to the cliffhanger that Who Laughs Last holds.

I have to say that I loved the first book. The MC was strong and there was an emotional war inside of her that seemed to pull on my heartstrings.

But after the ending of the book 1 and since reading the second installement, I feel like there has been no emotional change or any change in the characters at all really even though I think there should have been.

After Trent gets her kicked out for something she didn't even do, she said that it was the last straw and she's right. He got her KICKED OUT FOR SOMETHING THAT WASN'T HER FAULT!!! and so I peronally thought that she should have been way angrier at them and instead she sleeps with two of them so early in the book after she claims she hates them so much.

It's just frustrating. This book had so much potential and I feel like the character's choices, mainly the MC just put me off.

Well

I didn't stop reading it, so there's something. I actually like the chemistry between a couple of the characters and I almost always pull for redemption. But this is rushed. It's still good writing, but there are not reasons for behaviors and it's annoying. Still have to read book 3 for the conclusion though.

Again, this is NOT a DUET as book 1 claims in the description. I'm copy/pasting a part of the review from book one to this because guess what... NOTHING CHANGES IN THIS BOOK until the very last 3 or so chapters, when they get a 'common' enemy which... WHAT?

[The copied part] The reason for the 'hatred' was so lame. SOOOOO lame. I won't spoil it, but fuck... grow a damn pair. Yet the WHOLE time, it's repetitive NONSENSE of 'OMG I love her so much, but I HATE that I love her so much so let me be a raging dickwad'... instead of just TALKING to her.

That above was repeated ad nauseum. Ad NAUSEUM. Every chapter is this in-depth monologue of the SAME exact thoughts... over and over again. Holy fuck. GET OVER IT OR GET OFF THE POT AND MOVE ON.

[The new part] Last couple of chapters ... WHAT?! Out of NOWHERE the roommate is suddenly this evil person that has this huge axe to grind with the FMC with ZERO evidence leading up to that at all... ever. I just can't with this book or the last one. I can't with ANY OF THIS. I really should be giving this a 1* but I do think Eva was attempting something there, but it just fell so damn flat.

Literally NOTHING else happens or progresses this story until the last couple of chapters. When two of the guys also finally get their shit together and finally start thinking for themselves and not wanting to follow everything their BFF has been doing (IMO too little, too late... we're at the end of book two... this should have been resolved by the end of book one or at the very least early in this book). If I'd been the FMC, no matter how good the dicking was, I would have just left them all in the dust and moved to a different state and started my life over. /end scene.

I'm more mad at myself because I really shouldn't have read this one seeing how the first book was, but the DUET thing screwed with my mental. Ugh.

MY RATING SYSTEM

5* An AMAZING book that got me feeling ALLTHEFEELS, especially makes me laugh. It’s always something that I’ll think about for DAYS (and in a couple of instances…WEEKS 😭). Very well written, with zero or barely there repetitive scenes/monologues. Epic dialogue that kept me hooked.

4* A pretty damn excellent book that kept me reaching for it. ALMOST as good as a 5* but it had me missing some feels/just didn’t hit like a 5*. This is usually my max rating. Usually has pretty good dialogue that keeps it engaging/hooked. Maybe a tiny bit of repetitiveness, but not enough to make me gouge my eyes out.

3* is a solid read but little things here and there that were just meh and could have been better. Still a “good” rating in my eyes. Some repetitiveness, and not as well written, but still enjoyable to read. Doesn't have as much engaging dialogue as other reads, but not a tome of monologue either to put me to sleep.

2* have a lot more issues that are harder to ignore and makes me usually not read any further books if it’s a series. These are the ones I can go into depth on reviews sometimes because SO much irks me about them. Too much repetition, barely any good or fun dialogue...just blocks of mental thoughts and/or not much else plot-wise. Very little meat to the story/or there is no story at all and it's all just ugh.

1* I just couldn’t believe I wasted my time on a book that clearly the author had zero care about themselves. It’s just pure trash (which I hate to say about someone’s work, but it was clearly not written with any care at all).

LOVEEEEEEE

I love this series so much. I love the men and Emma. Even though they’re all assholes in their own ways.

Let’s just that plot twist was unexpectedly expected. I assumed it was gonna happen for obvious reasons but also didn’t want it to.

Honestly Paul is mean like he has no idea what his daughters been through and he wants to play the disappointment card? Asshole.

Here’s my favorite quotes

It’s the difference between fantasy and reality, and reality fucking hurts. ~Emma

“The truth is, I introduced your mom to my dad because I had a fucking crush on you!” ~Emma

And for just that brief second, a look like hatred passes across her features.
It hits me like a knife to the heart, like a death sentence, like someone snuffed out my fucking soul. ~Trent

“Yeah,” I mutter. Absently, I reach up to rub at my chest where my dead heart sits. “Yeah. I know.”
This will never happen again.
Of all the things Emma Holloway has ever said to me, I believe those five words the most. ~Trent

“I can’t stop.” His voice is soft, and his Adam’s apple bobs as he swallows. “I can’t. Believe me, I fucking tried, but I can’t stop thinking about you. And I don’t want to anymore. I don’t want to pretend this never happened. I don’t want to pretend there’s nothing between us. I fucked up, Ems, and I want to make it better.” ~Reece

“I think she knew that, Ems. Our relationship with someone isn’t defined by one single thing we say or do. It’s defined by how we are with them all the time, the entirety of how our lives intersect.” ~Reece

“I’m gonna make everything better, Ems. I’m gonna fix this. All of it. I promise.” ~Reece

WEST: I know you don’t want to talk. But I need to see you. Can we meet? Tomorrow, 12 p.m. Trattoria.

“I don’t know what anyone else told you,” I say softly, my voice a low rasp. “But I won’t play that game with you anymore. I’m on your side. I’ll pick you from now on. I’ll fight for you.” ~West

“I told you once that I would’ve treated you best, Ems,” I murmur. “And I meant it. I’ve wanted you since the first fucking moment I laid eyes on you, and I still want you. More than anything else in the whole damn world.” ~West

I globally liked the series and keep a nice memory of it while remembering it a few months later.
And I did read it all in a 2 to 3 days, so I was enough in to the drama to not drop it.

The first book was a bit annoying because... well you do not hate your best friend without even asking is its true. I do get you need to put a plot, and they need to hate each other... but if it doesn't seem plausible, it is just annoying.
and, The-way-too-nice-and-open-and-understanding-roommate just made me tick. or maybe I have trust issues... who knows.
The 3 boys just fit in the stereotypical RH : one leader, one mass of muscle, one "fun and funny".
I fell there could have been more there. More depth, more back story...

Then in book 2... I don't know, can you really crave people you hate. I do feel disgusted by the people I hate; I do not want to jump their bones. Again, maybe just me.
However, I felt it was too easy to say "ho no my head and heart know I shouldn't but my body can't be stopped"... but this gives for a lot of sex scenes, and I guess you don't pick up an Eva Ashwood book for the picturization of the scenery...
PS; there is just 1to1 sex so far, I believe. I think all the RH is in book 3.

So book 3 was nice cause you finally get the 4 together … together
It’s a fast read, you get in the story and you want to know how it will end.
I do however feel that we could have known more about the other boys…
Then, also all the hacking and all… It feels like too much, going too fast.
I don’t know, I would say the idea was great but could be brought better.

For me, books got better through the series.
I would recommend to read it once. Not lost time

Save yourself the time and don’t read this. Spoilers ahead.

This book was shit. They ruined her life and what does she do? Yeah she fucks them all every chance she gets but don’t worry before she does she yells about how much she hates them and how she’s going to ruin their lives. Spoiler she never fucking does. She’s the weakest most spineless bitch ever. The guys are all fucking pussies. They follow Trent around like he’s god or some shit. Trent is a dick who is now like hmm maybe she didn’t do what I thought she did and I love her so I’m going to pretend none of it happened. And she’s like great idea me too. Like the entire book was based over like Christmas break. They keep saying they’re going to get her back in school yet Trent never went to the school to tell them what he did and he hasn’t told her dad or his mom so everyone is still super upset with her but he doesn’t give a shit. I literally skimmed through every sex scene because I couldn’t let go what they did. It was practically every time they were together that they were hooking up or making out or something and it’s like what was the point of even saying you wanted revenge. Plus Leslie is a cunt like the whole book is literally just about making Emma’s life a miserable hellhole. It’s so fucking stupid. It’s not second chance romance bc they used their second chance to do EXACTLY what they did to her the first time. How she could EVER trust them again is beyond me. I fucking hated this book. It was literally horrible.

The author literally just dropped the plot of the guys and her hating each other and making them team up against Leslie. So abrupt. So pointless. All the characters in this book are the worst people ever. They say nice words and she accepts it like they never did anything wrong.

Ok, so the second book gives us a tiiiiiny bit more detail into the characters, but they still super lack depth. They elude to who the characters are and why, but we still don't know anything about them. They all have smex with Emma, not at the same time but its a lot. Like she has no control over herself in any way shape or form and it really shows how she lacks as a person. Theres no foundation to the chemistry she is giving the h and H's which makes it not very believable. I'm sorry but if I was bullied as badly as she supposedly was, when my supposed best friends turned their backs on me after not even talking to me or telling me why, and got me kicked out of college, put cracks in my relationship with my parents and turned the only people I cared about against me, I wouldn't play victim and then 2 minutes later sleep with them....😒. I would completely write them off. I get that she cant resist them, but why.....there was no background or story about how they became so close at one point in their lives that she can't stay away or tell them no even after they destroyed her. no resistance at all. the book moves fast and all the sudden they no longer hate each other and ban together to go after the roommate who double crosses he h, adding a whole other incomplete layer that really makes no sense. It was like the story wasn't going anywhere so she threw this twist in at the last minute, because it really was out of sorts with the rest of the storyline. This then caused another book to be made after this, where they are all banned together now and against the roomate....all bullying and betrayal just set on the shelf like it never happened.

This book was a lot like the last book. The 4 of them were constantly plotting against one another but also hate fucking the entire book. Good story plot though mixed in there and there were definitely some twists that happened that i didn’t see coming.

This book starts where the last one ended with her being kicked out of school. She gets her roommate to allow her to stay in their room on campus till she figures things out. She also recruits her roommate to help her hack the me as revenge. Well at the end of the book the roommate turns on her and offers her help to the guys and says she doesn’t like people who act like they are the victims and is really cryptic. Anyways the guys warn her saying they are on her side now, super back and forth, well she obviously doesn’t trust them because they have done this time and time again. But when they tell her info that could have only come from her roommate she believes them. So they come up with a plan to reverse is back on the roommate. They play a video that’s supposed to make fun of Emma but it stops and plays Leslie admitting to everything. They get her arrested and charges are talked about, her parents out her in a institution. But at the end of the book while they are trying to figure out where to go from here with one another all their cards are declined and Trent is arrested for his stolen car that he owns. They know Leslie is behind it all.

'Who Laughs Last', the riveting second installment in the Clearwater University series, continues to captivate with its unique blend of reverse harem romance and bully themes. I was grateful that it didn't keep me waiting, instead diving headfirst into the suspense left hanging by its predecessor, 'Who Breaks First'.

Our heroine Emma finds herself under relentless assault yet again. But this time, she refuses to be a passive victim. Her retaliation is as cold as it is calculated, setting her sights firmly on the Icons. Much like in the first novel, I found myself thoroughly engrossed in the multiple perspectives offered by Emma and the Icons. The diverse narratives enrich this tale further by offering varied viewpoints of their shared circumstances.

The characters are gradually evolving throughout this narrative arc – their development and growth subtly yet surely making their presence felt. While 'Who Laughs Last' may not have a standalone subplot of its own, it skillfully branches out from the central trilogy plotline, enhancing it while building towards that nail-biting cliffhanger we were left grappling with.

In conclusion, Eva Ashwood has crafted another fantastic entry in this series - an enjoyable read that simultaneously tugs at your heartstrings and keeps you on edge with its thrilling twists and turns.

Great continuation of the series with an almost seamless transition between the two books and little to no time jump.

This book takes place over winter break which is a pretty short time line for how much actually occurs.
Like the first book I was hoping for more flashbacks. A more detailed explanation of the bullying.

This series seriously lacks in minor characters. The first book has some potential with Peter. However, his character was poorly utilized and essentially dropped off during the second book which I thought was a shame. The only other character besides the 4 main ones and parents is Leslie her roommate. I think there was potential for more minor characters they are on a college campus but seem to not really interact with the world outside there tight group.

There is very little known of Reese’s and Wests families though it is mentioned West’s home life wasn’t great. I found it odd they had no Christmas plans and felt like there should have been more explanation of that. As teenagers they spent a Christmas a Reese’s and from what we know they seem fairly wealthy so why didn’t he go home for Christmas.

I hope this third book helps explain West more. I feel like his character is the most mysterious of the guys and I want to know more of what makes him tick.

Lastly I can’t tell if it’s just me but every time she referred to the as “the icons” I cringe.

My review on:

Clearwater University Series
(Who Breaks first)- Book One
(Who Laughs Last)- Book Two
(Who Falls Hardest)- Book Three

I have to say I enjoy this series. I have liked every book I have read by Eva. This series is easy to relate to and not far-fetched. Eva sucks you into her stories and makes you want more, even after the last book is done.

This series is about Emma, who has three best friends West, Reese and Trent. They have been friends for years til she had to move away with her dad. She broke Trents heart. He thinks he helps break up his parents. So him and West and Reese bully her.

Years later, she's back with her dad to start college. She finds out she's also gonna be around West, Reese, and Trent. Do they still hate her? And do they still want her? Is she gonna be able to choose, or can she have it all? Read and find out what happens between Emma and her three best friends.

There's a lot of twists and turns in this series. Emma goes through a lot with Trent, West, and Reese. There's a lot of emotions, shitty instances, drama, but theirs also steam and heat. Get your copy now! Won't be disappointed with this series.

Still not a fan of Emma, but book 2 ended better than it started at least. I couldn’t stand watching Emma in the beginning and her plan to destroy the guys lives. The way she was acting was ridiculous. At 20% I was ready to stop reading because I was already beyond tired of Emma. The girl was pathetic and once again couldn’t fight her own fight. She was having Leslie do it AND once again was going too far. West and Reece had zero to do with what Trent did in book 1 and yet she was targeting them too.
Emma was a pathetic, cruel little bitch who is just as much a coward as the guys are. I feel no sympathy for what she went through in high school, none. She hates them and is planning to destroy their life yet she’ll fuck them any chance she gets. And her telling Reece she wishes he’d die, that was just cruel and inexcusable. Then she starts bawling because they were the last words she spoke to her mom before she died and what does Reece do??? He consoles her selfish ass, all while she was conspiring to destroy him.
I did enjoy watching Leslie flip the table in her and go to the guys and tell them all about their plan. And that ending! It’s definitely has me jumping into book 3.

Trent ruined Emma once again, she is kicked out of ClearwaterU because of Trent after knowing that Emma introduced his mom to her father, which lead him think that Emma caused his family to break apart and parents to divorce. Emma who attaching her heart to the boys once against during the semester and Trent just had to ruin it. But Emma is not a coward this time. She has nothing to lose, so she begins on her revenge, with her roommate/friend who is a hacker. But is she a real friend or an enemy? Anyhow, West, Reese, and Trent and Emma still have the tension and the love between one another. While hating each other, they also can not ignore each other, their attractions and actions. Reese and West finally felt a little guilty and really didn't want to follow Trent like they did in high school and bully Emma. They want to protect her this time. Now what will happen between the 4?

Again, overall read, like every other RH/bully romance tbh. But I a, not really invested in it... so yeah :)

We continue straight off book 1 where Emma had got Trent back for turning on her AGAIN!
I could bang his head so freaking hard! He has it in his head that his parents divorce is her fault! So much for friendship though because when this happened years ago, he decided she told and it's her fault - it's not! It wasn't her, she has been tormented for years because of his idiocy!

Anyway, she's got her own back on Trent - Did I agree with it? No. There are mentions of bullying in high school but you don't really get a just of what actually happened but I do know it veered in cyber bullying too so what she did, is kinda like tit-for-tat 🤷🏻‍♀️

BUT it turns out, they're not her only enemy! Trent is the ringleader and although he orchestrated it all, he still wants her. Reese and West, his wingmen are just as bad because they went along with it. They've finally realised it's wrong, they don't want the animosity, they just want her but is it to late? A drift is forming between the boys though - can they overcome that?

Good read 3.5
