All I wanted was the rush. The speed. The adrenaline. As the first female F1 driver to hit the sport, I fought for my fame. For the respect that I am given. For my place on the grid. But I also wanted him, only him, and I was going to get him. There are only two problems. 1. He's my team principal 2. My past is coming back to haunt me
Sam is trying to get through school and fulfill her dream of becoming a full-time author. Her Mexican heritage and obsession with F1 as well as age gap tropes has driven the inspiration for “The Rush World Series.” Having been a reader before writing her first story. She started this journey with her bookstagram page and podcast in hand.
Now she is taking the final step to achieving her dream by self-publishing the love stories she enjoys to share. Her life revolves around watching anything pertaining to Game of Thrones, Modern Family, Pedro Pascal, Formula One and fantasizing about her array of celebrity crushes.
Reading and writing has empowered her to survive through tough times. A gift she hopes she is passing on to her readers through her writing. If you want an author with too many plans and no genre to hold her down, make sure to check out her words she writes while delirious at 3am.
I think as a debut novel, it was great. Sure there are a few issues that I am going to state below but other than that, this was a fairly exciting plot, with witty and engaging writing. The chemistry between the characters were shown naturally and I relatively like the h (Maria). She is self aware about her surroundings and I appreciate her how she just doesn't keep quite about subtle sexism shown by anyone. I genuinely enjoyed the smut and I was in a bit of a dry spell, so thanks for that. I like the relationship between Xavier and Maria. I thought it was damn cute.
Formatting, I think it could have been better with its formatting. Editing, there were a few grammatical errors and complex sentences that could have been edited better. The characterisation of the H (Luca) was underdeveloped. Even though I liked the plot twist at the end, it felt rushed and I wished that it was concluded better.
Tropes: •sports romance •bossxemployee •age gap •f1 •enemies to lovers
*I received an ARC in exchange of an honest review*
This blurb has all the buzz words for me. Female F1 Driver? Hell yes. Enemies to lovers? Yes. Mafia? Yes please.
While I gave this book 3 stars, it was for things that could have definitely been fixed before publishing. There were a decent amount of grammatical errors and the flow of the writing was off at times.
While at the core, the story was really good and interesting, I felt that the chemistry between the characters were lost a bit towards the end of the book. For a debut novel? It was really solid. I can’t wait to see what this author does with the rest of the series.
I do wish there were more F1 aspects. A lot of it was them traveling to different cities were they would race and not a lot of interaction of F1 and actual racing. Also the mafia aspects were in the background. Definitely not in the front. It seemed that there was a lot of things going on and it wasn’t executed in the most perfect way.
I still thought the story was solid, I just wanted more overall.
Morphine is first book in Rush World series and also Sam's debut novel. It has all my favourite tropes - enemies to lovers, age gap, workplace romance. And it's also set in Formula 1 world - if you know me you know how much I love this sport 🤍 I was very excited for this book and Sam didn't let me down.
Maria Alejandra is the first female driver in Formula 1, Luca is former driver and her team principal. Despite their mutual hate at the beginning of the story, it's clear there is also a lot of chemistry. Their relationship progressed very naturally and I loved that! Beside the couple, I need mention Xavier - Alejandra's teammate. His friendship with Ale was totally cute and I hope he gets a book in this series.
To be honest, I did have some issues with this book. I think it needed a little more work on editing and writing wasn't always the best. It was hard for me at the beginning to get into the story, on the other side I felt like the ending was little rushed. But I loved how witty Sam's writing is and I think it has a lot of potential. Writing is something that gets better with practice and evolving as an author and I can't wait to read more of Sam's work. Story itself was very entertaining (spice was good too) and for a debut book, these are just minor issues. If you love a good age gap or are an F1 fan, I do reccomend you to give this book a chance 🤍
Wow! This book was FANTASTIC! I loved everything about it. First of all, the characters were pure fire. Ale was this unapologetic woman that would put everyone in their place. Loved her confidence so much! And Luca won me over instantly. I thought I have a weakness for Italian man and Luca just confirmed it once again. Together, they had fireworks!
The plot was really gripping too. I enjoyed the traveling aspects and seeing different parts of the world. I didn't know F1 could be for me, but I am definitely hooked now.
F1 romance, cartel,Mexican FMC, age gap, workplace romance, enemies to lovers
This is Sam’s debut novel and it was so good. Maria is not only the first Mexican driver in sixty years to have reached Formula Two driver’s champion, but also is the first woman to reach that achievement. She has worked her ass off dealing with sexism and backhanded comments every single day. Luca Donatello is a former F1 world champion driver who now is her boss. They attraction and chemistry was undeniable. They tried to resist their attraction but it failed and thank the universe because Luca is 🥵🥵🥵. But Maria’s past is now affecting her career as The Donatellos are known for their hatred of organized crime and she was born into the biggest organized crime family in Mexico. The plot twist was unexpected at all and I loved how well the world was built. Not too much information throwed at you just enough to set the vibe. Xavier was so sweet and just an amazing side character.
*F1 *Heroine that defiance standards *Enemies to lovers *Age Gap *Hero super hot which i wanted call mine??!!! Yes, this book call me immediately and when i saw the cover i needed to read. Here we have the story about Alejandra: a girl who always dreamed to be F1 pilot. Even with your privilege life (afterall she are daughter from the boss of one of the biggest cartel of the country), she always fight for what she wants. When she wins the proposal to compete in the F1 she saw her dreams come true (with a lot of challenges, of course). One of this challegens is Nico- her boss and ex-pilot. They hate each other in the beginning, but with time both surrender to their attraction. I confess that i really enjoy the book, even if i wanted saw more between them, this book it’s so easy and captivating that i read it super fast. Really liked and excited for the next.
This book follows Maria Alejandra Castillo, a determined and opinionated Mexican F1 driver, and her 18-year-older italian team principal, Luca Donatello. They're butting heads literally from their first interaction, but the tension and build up... off the charts 🔥
This is the first book in the Rush World series, and I think it did a good job of staging the world and its characters. I think it shows that the author did her research because there was a lot of knowledge about formula one (for those of us who aren't fans of it), and also about Mexico; culture, symbols, history and others. I also liked the premise of the story, and seeing the main couple clashing from the start, but finding chemistry and a lot of tension under that ""hate"". I enjoyed a lot of their confrontations because it was mostly just funny bickering and banter. Oh, and a great show stealer was Xavier, Ale's teammate; he just has big golden retriever boyfriend energy lol.
Now what I didn't enjoy too much; 1) Maria Alejandra's characther after a while. She was badass and stubborn, I knew that much from the beginning, but some of her encounters with Luca -the hero-, just made her look childish and annoying, and I just rolled my eyes to the point of seeing my own brain. 2) The I love you, please don't leave me scene... it was just too abrupt for me and the scene itself wasn't even THAT dramatic, or at least it wasn't described that way for me to guarantee that kind of near death love declaration moment. 3) The Spanish. I know I said that it was obvious that she did her research and one of my favorite parts was the Spanish phrases without immediate translation, but I think it was too formal for some contexts, plus some mistakes, like writing princess with 2 s, or confusing "la/el". Plus the cartel/drugs is a touchy subject and I think it's really hard to write about that without falling into stereotypes, but at least it wasn't THAT focused on it, if not Ale and her mexican heritage away from her family's business, so at least there's that.
The positive aspects of this books where the amount of detail and knowledge of F1, as someone that is a fan of the sport I really felt that I was in the races with them, Xavier really took the cake for me and was the main reason why I was able to finish the book The plot was so interesting and hinted to a whole series that make it exciting The writing also was so good for a debut novel and congratulations for the author!.
Now, the ways it can improve are: - As a Mexican myself, I found the perspective of the FMC so out of character with how actually Mexicans are, the thoughts, way of acting radiated being written by someone that only knows the stereotypes of how Latinos are supposed to behave and that for me it was a little disappointing, hard to read and relate.
- The romance for me, for two characters that describes themselves as mature acted like children, miscommunication, didn’t really felt the chemistry until at the very 15% of the book.
- The Cartel part of the plot, wasn’t my favorite.
In conclusion, I was not a fan of the book, it was so difficult for me to finished it, as a Mexican I would do not like this FMC to represent me, we are more than stereotypes.

ARC received by the author in exchange of an honest review
ARC KINDLY PROVIDED IN EXCHANGE FOR AN HONEST REVIEW |ARC PROPORCIONADO AMABLEMENTE A CAMBIO DE UNA RESEÑA HONESTA REVIEW IN ENGLISH & SPANISH | RESEÑA EN INGLES & ESPAÑOL 3.5⭐ ----- E N G L I S H ------ Receiving an ARC is a complicated situation because on the one hand you have a book that excites you but on the other you are afraid that you won't like it and I think a lot of things happened with Morphine. Besides, it's Sam Lynn's first book, so it scares me more. The main character of the story is Ale, who is the first woman to make the jump to F1 where she meets Luca, who is her boss. Their first meeting is not very pleasant, it does not happen in the best way. I liked both characters but I connected more with Ale than with Luca and despite the fact that it is a dual POV, most of these are from Ale, therefore I think it gave me more freedom to get to know her. There are things that I liked and there are things that I didn't. Within what I liked was how Ale is, I think he is a character who, more than strong, is a character who shows what fairness is and more so being in a world where most of the time it is dominated by men and "traditions" I think It is my second book about F1 and I must say that I loved that this aspect is never left aside and even shows you some aspects of the sport that are even quite understandable and even more so when you know nothing about the sport. Sam's level of writing is amazing, the scenarios that he presents to you for each place are incredible, sometimes I skip these parts because I really can't imagine some things, but this woman explained each place to me and in my mind it was so clear and the details of history is an incredible plus. Now among the things that I would have liked is to know more about the relationship that Ale has with Violetta, León and her father.
“You may not not be what I expected, but you are everything I dreamed of.”
Morphine is Sam’ debut novel and it’s book one is her “Rush World” series. This book give us F1 and cartel themes, with enemies to lovers, workplace/ sports romance, age gap, and POC rep.
This book focuses on Maria Alejandra (Ale) Castillo, who, since she was a girl, wants to become the first female Formula One (F1) driver. Despite being the daughter of a Don of one of the most powerful cartel families in Mexico, she chose to follow her dreams.
Ale is a definition of a strong and confident woman, and can often times be stubborn. Having spent her entire life working towards becoming an F1 driver, she’s finally given an opportunity to do so. Being offered as second driver by one of the top Constructors in F1. Everything was going well, till she met her team principal, Luca Donatello. Arrogant, cold, and grumpy.
Their dislike towards each other was immediate, but their sexual attraction towards each other was palpable. Despite being many years older than her AND her boss, they couldn’t deny what they felt. They are each other’s equals. Also, the banter was one of my favorite things in this book.
Overall, I enjoyed Ale and Luca’s story from beginning to end. I definitely found myself drooling over the cars Ale owned, haha. Especially the informative history scenes, I enjoyed those so much. I also loved the supporting characters in the story and hoping to see more of them in the future books in this series. What I loved most about this debut, is how much Ale “defied the standards” throughout the book—being a female in a male dominated field.
I can not wait to read more from this author.
*ARC for honest review.
P.s. Sam, I’m so freaking proud of you and I can not wait to see you continue progressing and thriving as an author.
The way these characters DESPISED each other was *chef's kiss* I can't think of one part of this book I didn't like The FMC and MMC are both funny in the way they hate each other and it made the book even better
This book even has a PLOT 🙌🏾 Said plot follows Alejandra (FMC) on her journey in F1 and being the only woman in the sport. Her family has ties to the Mexican cartel which is ... a touchy subject for Luca (MMC) to say the least. We learn about Alé's life and what her brother and father do and why she was so adamant to have absolutely nothing to do with it.
Alé is a strong FMC and not in the "I'm different from other girls" way. She stands up for herself in a controlled and confident way and calls out the bullshit and misogyny against her in the industry. She's confident as fuck and knows her worth
The 3rd act breakup / conflict was understandable, isn't dragged out and is resolved in an amicable way
The smut was 🥵, Luca is a good talker

28 • 04 • 2023:- sam slayed it with her debut i am telling you 😮💨
13 • 04 • 2024:- i am going to be very honest here. not all authors have banger debuts and sam is the exception.
this book screams FEMINISM. sam made me fall in love with maria in every chapter. that woman, albeit fictional, is a literal queen and i bow to her. maria was well aware how being the only female in f1 can be helluva lot challenging for her but she made sure that the world knows who's the f**king queen 😤 she's amazayn. she's brilliam. she's a legend. she's the moment. 🛐 luca is no less of a king (but maria holds the power sweetie). he's a simp for maria and acts like she holds the sun (AS HE SHOULD). their chemistry is hotter than sahara desert and honestly, i loved every second of it. there are sweet moments, there are romantic moments and then there are bussy smacking moments. i love love love them.
i will also take this opportunity to mention that this book also represents the fashion community, and as a fashion aspirant, i love how perfectly it was done. also, the cultural representation. ngl, i learnt a lot about the mexican culture in this book than i did at school. i can, without any doubt, say that sam knows how to represent different cultures.
the author honestly slayed with her debut and you're missing something really good if you still haven't read her books. can't wait to read more from her 🫶
❂ ARC provided by the author in exchange for an honest review 🏎
Morphine is the first book in the Rush World Series and I’m so grateful for the opportunity to read this book and review its ARC. I followed Sam for most of the writing process on Instagram and watching how excited she was about her debut novel was the best part!
Maria is one of the best heroine I’ve ever read in the F1 world. Hardworking, badass, everything you want in a mc and this is also what Luca saw in her. He’s her boss, a former F1 world champion and guys the C H E M I S T R Y. Guess what happens when you put a smart hot man and his nemesis in the same room? It was on another level. I was there with my book giggling like a baby.
I loved the set up, the world building, the main characters AND the side characters especially one of them👀
I found the writing really smooth and enjoyable, I finished this book in one sitting so you know what I mean when I say I didn’t see that twist plot coming. At all. I need the second book NOW because the waiting is gonna end me.
5/5 🌟 and again, I’m so proud of Sam and her first book, it was amazing, and hello look at the covers? Buying the paperbacks as we speak 🏎
The author said that there would be growth with the FMC but I didn't see it at all. Ale was annoying and immature and she never grew out of it. Nothing felt developed in this book. It was almost like it had different sections or phases but they didn't flow together cohesively. They hated each other then with no real development they were together an in love. Then she was worrying about her family in the mafia/cartel. Then there was the trauma of her mother and that was a joke. In the prologue she said there was no relationship with her mother so for the way that she reacted at the end with the truth about her mom came out was bizarre. That whole scene was bizarre. The whole aspect of the mafia and cartel was wholly unnecessary to the story. Didn't make sense. Wish that we got more from Luca's POV. Felt like we hardly knew him.

spellbinding, intoxicating, and all-consuming morphine had a fast-paced plot that gripped me in its clutches staking its claim on me. I was utterly consumed with every word.
The characters captivated me leaving me completely Spellbound this enemies to lovers/ age-gap boss- employee romance was achingly compelling. The chemistry between Maria and Luca is hot it ignited into a Inferno. I felt there combustable connection through the pages.
Morphine staked it’s claim on me completely owning me it was pure-kindle crack goodness, Sam did a amazing job for her debut I was addicted from the beginning to the very end this book had a badass female F1 driver that spoke to my soul. I’m ready to read what Sam comes up with next.
"Morphine" by Sam Lynn is a dual pov F1 romance between a female racer and her team principal, a tension-filled age gap laced with secrets and hate...or so it seems.
Morphine by Sam Lynn follows Mexican heroine Maria Alejandra and her journey as the first female F1 racer, and Luca Donatello, former F1 racer and now current Team Principal for Elecktra...the team who just signed Maria. An F1 romance with a mafia twist, an enemies-to-lovers dynamic when the line between lust and hate awakens an entirely different feeling. But nothing is perfect, and with secrets that uncover, which bonds will break and which are forever?
"I would take all your pain. I would take it without a second thought. But that’s not possible. All I can do is let you cry and scream. If that’s directed at me, I’ll accept it with welcoming arms. Your pain is my pain."
I'm going to be straightforward here. This was one of my most anticipated reads of the year and to say I was disappointed is an understatement.
I did not like a fair amount of this book. First things first, here is a list of things I DID LIKE: - XAVIER VALENTE. When I say this man carried the book for me, he did. Anytime he was on the page, I just needed to keep going. - THE SPICE, the dirty talk, and descriptions were hot and had me feeling some type of way. - THE PLOT TWIST. I felt like I was hyper-analyzing everything in this book to the point I was bored, but this twist came out of nowhere for me, and I loved it. - THE SUNSCREEN SCENE. It wasn't a long part, nor anything special, but I have a soft spot for moments like that. - Did I mention Xaiver? No? Well, LOVE, LOVE LOVED HIM. - Honorable Mention: The last 25% was more fast-paced, and I finally fell into the book and the characters by then.
Now the things I DID NOT LIKE: ( !! POTENTIAL SPOILERS !! ) -Unfortunately, I found the FMC to be intolerable, and frankly irritating. The representation is something notable, not so much in quality, but in the clarity of her heritage and background. But I truly could not like her. There were too many "I'm not like other girls" themes that were masked with a lot, but parts like her saying she wears cologne and her brother finds it weird?? I just couldn't stand her. -I had hope for the MMC because his first POV wasn't as irritating for me. Of course, that changed when he literally got jealous of HER WEARING HER OWN COLOGNE. I just tuned out at that point. He literally states that he likes control in the chapter after she talks about hating control because it slows her down. -Modern-day references. I find these UNBEARABLE. The mention of Tiktok just gave me the ick, even some references that were obvious correlations to reality. -The BIGGEST thing that turned me away from this book is how I went to this book to see Ale bring feminity to a male-dominated sport. Instead, she conformed to that and adapted rather than make changes to the sport, conforming to the male persona to better excel in society/the F1 world rather than set the standard for women to break the placed standards. -Referencing the background and representation of Ale's character again, during her home race she describes her surroundings. She mentions things like the city is decorated in their culture, and that the forest is filled with mystery and the vibrancy of their culture, but it never specifies past that. What kind of culture? Culture is present in so many aspects of a person, whether it be art, food, traditions, etc.. And I wasn't given a looking glass into that. Since the book was basically a gamers guide to formula one, I truly wished that some of that detail focused more on Mexican/Latino culture.
As someone who isn't usually a critical reader, me not finding a connection with these characters was really upsetting. It made it difficult to not get bored, and instead of it being a book I couldn't put down it took me a week while reading in tiny fragments. In simple terms, I really didn't like the book. Would I likely read another one of Sam Lynn's books? Yes, but depending on its themes/plot, etc.; the only thing I know for sure is that I will read Xavier's book.
I probably would recommend this book to anyone looking for a romantic twist on the F1 sport, an age-gap romance, or an enemies-to-lovers book where they ACTUALLY can't stand each other. But besides that, it's not a book I enjoyed enough to recommend PERSONALLY.
Trigger Warnings/Content Warnings: Mentions of Mafia, Death of a Parent, Sexual Content... (I will try to build a more cohesive list within the next week or two.)
Congratulations to Sam on her debut release, and thank you to GiveMeBooks and Sam Lynn for this ARC in exchange for an honest review!
the plot was awful. the worldbuilding no existent and the characters and writing style horrible.
so many things were so weird and we never got the question to them really. why did she accuse her father of killing her mother the entire book? why did it just get thrown at me that it was her brother that she adored so much?
and the age gap.. i dont mind age gaps.... unless they call eachother "little girl" and "old man" and constantly point out their age difference and that he could be her dad and etc etc and suddenly they have sex?? like i dont mind age gaps but these two were not on the same maturity level.
and its not a grumpy x grumpy or grumpy x sunshine, its a dude trying to live his life and a arrogant annoying egoistic girl being a bitch for absolutely no reason.
quotes that make me poke my eyes out:
“Don’t call me a little girl, old man. ” and this was when he asked her to go faster during practice and she flat out refused to do her job and them gets all bitchy about it and disrespects him.
“Oh my god, you sound just like my father,” she mocks me. “Well, I am closer to his age than yours, Ragazza, so deal with it.” STOP IT PLEASE
“I still loathe you, but you’re hot as fuck. That I won’t deny.” “Ditto, Ragazza,” he rasps.”
70% of the book is her inner monologue hating him and him making her see red, and the next minute she thinks his muscles and tattoos are sooo hot.
do not reccomend this at all!!!!

Sports romance Age gap Enemies to lovers „My boss“ romance Women in motorsport
I always complain about sport romances not covering enough aspects of the book, but this one showed perfectly that the author knew what she was talking about.
kudos to the author, hopefully we will see more from her soon.
I was really excited to read this book, since it had everything I liked.
✅ formula one (and a female driver at that 😫) ✅ enemies to lovers ✅ workplace romance ✅ multiracial couples ✅ age gap ✅ cartel *chef’s kiss* ✅ spice 🌶🌶
but i was disappointed.
don’t get me wrong, there were things that I thoroughly enjoyed in the story. Mainly, it was the formula one. Sam dove into the inner workings of the sport and it was thrilling and exciting to read about it. Second, it was Xavier. Yes, that man has reached my list of book boyfriends. His character was adorable, and so was his friendship with Ale. Third, the cartel and mafia relations. I’m a huge sucker for organized crimes.
now, moving on.
the Prologue was the first reason why I was put off by the story. I had to read it twice because I was so confused, and the tenses kept changing from present to past to present, which to me is a big turn off. 😭 Second, some of the scene transitions were chaotic. There were a few times when it jumped without proper context making the whole scene sound odd. Third, i didn’t quite gel with Ale. Ale is a strong, confident, career-oriented woman, and I admire her character for that. But she’s also infuriating. I found that a few parts of her monologues were daunting to read. And I understand that she can’t stand Luca, but sometimes, she goes overboard with it, even when he’s technically her boss. She always has something to say back to the dude. Fourth, the grammatical errors. Some of the dialogues were confusing to read, since some tags were on one character but it was the other who said it. Or the dialogues for two characters were in one paragraph.
this is my honest review. and there are a lot who enjoyed the story. sooo, if you want to give the story a shot, then do it.
i’m looking forward to next books in the series!! 🤍
4 stars for the absolute chaotic yet immaculate vibes. Was this book over dramatic and a little unrealistic? Yes. Did I HATE the names the MCs called eachother (little girl and old man 🤮) yes. Did some of the storyline feel unnecessary and some of the characters underdeveloped? Yes.
But fuck all that because I had the BEST time reading this. I was so entertained, absolutely hooked. This book is laced with crack.
Maria is purposely written like a male athlete and I ATE IT UP!!! If you loved Throttled by Lauren Asher…this girl is written just like Noah Slade. The whole first woman on the F1 grid is done SO well. You can tell Sam knows so much about F1 and it’s inner workings.
Luca is a dream. If you’ve ever thirsted over Toto Wolf then buckle up. This guy is like hot daddy Toto Wolf, except the angry headphone throwing incident is his default mood. He’s sexy, he’s brooding, he’s just bringing ZADDY.
I loved how much I learnt about Italian and Mexican history. Maria is Mexican which also brought great diversity.
I did feel the mafia/cartel storyline was a bit much BUT it made for great drama. There were a few points where I felt the story needed more development but who cares, like I say I had so much fun with this book.
I NEEEEEED Xavier and Vio’s book IMMEDIATELY. Xavier just is Daniel Ricciardo.
