Rate this book
She wakes up in the arms of the one man she can never have...but is helpless to resist. Can their forbidden love survive all that threatens them?

Lady Maria has always done as she is told – until the former Diamond of the First Water faces a husband of unspeakable cruelty and escapes out a window and into the night, saved by the physician who affects her as no other man has.

When Lady Maria shows up on his doorstep, injured, frightened, and alone, Dr. Hudson Lewis cannot help but look after her – even if it means sacrificing his heart to resist temptation. To protect Maria, Hudson must set aside his pride and turn to his half-siblings, the Remingtons, for help. When danger threatens, they are all at risk, and must work together to stay safe and determine who is pursuing them. Will Hudson and Maria’s hearts be able to withstand all that is against them?

The third book in this wonderful series & I can’t wait for the next book. I'm not usually a lover of a mystery spanning a series but the author is revising my opinion. Whilst this book could just be read on its own I'd recommend reading the series in order to fully appreciate it. Hudson & Maria have appeared in earlier books & they were attracted to each from the start but she’s a dutiful daughter, so agrees to an arranged marriage but flees on her wedding night when her husband's true character emerges. I loved their journey to a HEA, which was fraught with danger & I was totally invested in it & read the book in a sitting. An engrossing, captivating read, which I loved

Bumped it to a 4

This was a nice read. Sort of a bridge to the final book and end of story.
Little angst in the beginning and end.
Heat - 3
The bloodthirsty me wanted the villain to be dragged along the street by a raging bull. Spit on and flogged by all the “young maidens” he molested.
Ok. It really was a nice read.

The mystery of the Remington's continues with other mystery, with the wonderful characters from the past books to help. We meet Hudson Lewis, Physician before, he is the Illegitimate half brother to the Duke of Warwick. He now has half brother and sisters he never knew about. We also meet Lady Maria in past books. She is the Lady the Duke didn't marry. Also best friends with his sister. Both Hudson and Maria were drawn to each other but both were afraid to act as there is a world of difference between them. Now her parents have married her to a man she hardly knows and she has gone along with it out of duty. But on the marriage night every thing goes terribly wrong. She is informed by a maid of what has been happening in the house for a long time. She is very upset and scared. When her new husband turns out to be a man of brutality, mean and cruel. She escapes thru a window fearing for her life.
She ends up at Dr. Lewis brought by a friend of his when he finds her alone and hurt.
So begins a wonderful story of love, caring and what people will give up or do for those they love. Hudson will need to bury this feeling for his father's family cause he needs their help. To keep Maria safe. Both of our couple with share secrets, feelings and heartbreak. We also get more clues on the on going mystery between all the books. This is such a wonderful moving story. I would suggest you read the stories in order as their is a mystery that follows thru each story. This is not a cliff hanger each of the couples stories has a great ending. This is a very passion filled story for those who like to know. I received and ARC from the author and wish to thank her.
This is my honest opinion and am freely giving it. Don't miss this series it's one of the best I have read this year. Can't wait for the next book.

The Remington Family's mystery continues, and I am so invested in this series and finding out "whodunit"!

Dr. Hudson Lewis is the bastard son of the last duke, making him half-brother to siblings he did not care for. He is a neighborhood doctor who has become very popular with his neighbors and patients. Hudson has been smitten with Lady Maria since they met over several occasions, but he knows he is lower class, and his interest would never be accepted.

Lady Maria is a kind and obedient daughter and after a slight scandal, her parents arranged a marriage between her and a marquess to save the family and Maria's reputation. She has doubts about him and on her wedding night is warned about his physical abuse. Maria manages to escape her bedroom and runs away. When she wakes up, she is in Dr. Lewis' home and he has tended to her wounds. She has always been attracted to him but knew her parents would never accept his courting.

Hudson and Maria grow close during her stay and protection from the marquess. Their friends and families help to bring justice to the marquess for past crimes on maids in his service, even murder of one but they need more evidence. This is an exciting, romantic story with a villain to hate and a mystery still in the wings to solve. I am really looking forward to the next book! I voluntarily read & reviewed an Advanced Reader's Copy of this book; all thoughts & opinions are my own.

This is the 3rd book in the series, but I have not read the previous books and I enjoyed this one. I do want to go read the other books, because they sound like they would be enjoyable. Hudson who is a doctor, and an illegitimate son of a Duke. Maria is a lady, who almost married Hudson’s half-brother, she is now married to a man who is cruel, so she runs away. After she is hurt someone takes her to Hudson. Hudson and Maria did meet each other before and they were interested in each other, but because Hudson was illegitimate, he did not think he could pursue her, and Maria listened to her parents on who she should marry. Hudson wanted to do anything in his power to protect Maria. There is a mystery in the book which has been going on thru the past books which is not solved in this book, it seems like it will be solved in the next book, so that makes me want to read it.
I received an ARC of this book for my honest opinion.

This is such a heartwarming story, complete with a sweet, romantic love story and an evil Earl who would tear them apart. Maria is an innocent noble young woman sent off to a wicked Earl in an arranged marriage. She is terrified when she learns of his plans for her and escapes before her wedding night. Injured during her retreat, she is brought to the young Doctor for help. Hudson is her knight in shining armor, and the perfect book boyfriend. He is kind, caring , and protective, and the two cannot help but fall in love as he shelters her there. But evil is afoot as the Earl tracks her and seeks to destroy them. A real page turner as the reader roots for love to find a way!

Can they have a future together?
This is a very sweet story about a young woman forced into marriage and runs away before her husband could hurt her. When things go wrong during her escape she ends up with the hero of our tale Doctor Hudson Lewis. I loved seeing how their relationship grew over the course story but things are not going to go smoothly because the villain is going to cause some truly dangerous problems. I enjoyed how the author wrote her characters and all of their interactions were so well done. This was a really good book that I truly hope you check out I know I am glad I picked up this arc. I did receive a free copy of this book and voluntarily chose to review it.

Another enthralling story about the intrepid Remington family. Hudson, a bastard half sibling of the family, is thrust into danger when he encounters a young woman running from a brutish marriage. Will the Remington family be able to help Hudson and Maria find a solution? Or will Maria be required to return to her cruel husband and relinquish her growing attraction for Hudson? This is a great book and I highly recommend it.

All I can say is that this book is beyond fantastic.

She is also determined to she has to start protecting herself and stop doing what other people wants but she's on the run from her husband who is beyond cruel. But she ends up with the physician who she couldn't stop thinking about and she knows she shouldn't burden. And now that she is with him she wants nothing more than to stay with him even if it's impossible.

He is a physician and he has nothing to offer her but his protection and his love. He can't give her the life she's used to. But he can't lose her despite the fact that she's married.

With the help of his family and her friends, they find themselves figuring way how to make this forbidden love into something that is not so forbidden.

The thing I love the most about this series is that not only have we had 1 but two stories where the heroes aren't members of the ton.

I look forward to the next book in this series.

I received this as a gift from the Author in exchange for an honest review and these are purely my thoughts and no one else's views.

The Remington saga continues with Hudson’s story. He is the bastard son of the last Duke. He is a practicing physician who doesn’t care much for his half siblings. Lady Maria is a gentle and soft hearted friend of one of the Remington sisters and she just got married. This is a sometimes heavy story about what can go wrong when you marry the wrong person. There is is also goodness and happiness when you find love and acceptance with the perfect partner.

This is the darkest and also the steamiest entry in the series so far. Lady Maria was the young lady in the first book who was expected to marry the Duke of Warwick, but he instead chose to marry Lady Emma. As a consequence, Maria's value on the "marriage mart" has dropped, and she is forced by her family to marry a man who, beneath all of his trappings of respectability, is a monster. She turns to the only person she believes can help her, Dr. Hudson Lewis.

Hudson has been my favorite character in the series. He is a good man who has been scorned by some in Society for his illegitimacy, and also because the Duke of Warwick cast aspersions against him, going so far as to imply that he had something to do with the death of their father. There is a slight cynicism and world-weariness to Hudson as a result, but at the same time, he is highly moral and sympathetic to others. He is attracted to Lady Maria but conflicted about how to pursue a relationship with her. At the same time, Maria finds herself falling in love with Hudson while she has to protect herself from the crazed man who is pursuing her.

The plot was a bit edgier than I'd expected; spousal abuse and stalking are certainly nothing new and are unfortunately still facts of life for too many women in this day and age, as the author acknowledges in her Afterward. There is a fairly high level of tension throughout the storyline, and it's easy to root for Hudson and Maria's HEA. I'm still not crazy about the Duke of Warwick; I think he could have done more to help elevate his half-brother's reputation in Society, considering everything he's done to hurt it. But the half-brothers are able to work together when information emerges to identify a culprit in their father's death, bringing us one step closer to the solution to that mystery.

I read an advanced reader copy of this book and this is my voluntary review. Thanks to the author for this opportunity.

4.5 STARS

Love this series and it will be more enjoyable if you read the series in order. This story has so many layers that it will keep you entertained. As with many series, you do have crossover characters.

The H is the bastard son of his deceased father, the former Duke. He is a physician and his relationship with his 1/2 siblings is rocky. The h is a dutiful daughter and agrees to a marriage with an Earl she hardly knows. You need to understand, in this time period wives were the property of the husband. They could abuse them and nothing would be done to them. Even if they murdered their spouse, they may get off. The h learns after she says her vows that he has physical abuse in mind for her on their wedding night.

The h runs away before the marriage is consummated so he can't abuse her. By luck she runs and finds herself in the home of the physician. They've meet before and each felt a connection, but didn't say anything. He wants to protect her so he hides her from her husband. The h/H slowly develop feelings for each other. Not sure to say they cheated or not. The marriage was not consummated BUT, marriage vows were spoken so I'll leave it up to the reader to decide for yourself if the H/h cheated.

Lovemaking outside of marriage, heat level 5 out of 5 and described several times.

Story is filled with suspense, some violence, nasty villain, families learning to heal, romance and a sweet epilogue. No cliffhanger for our couple, but who is causing problems for the main family is unsolved. We get HEA, romance and steam.

I received an advanced copy and all opinions are my own and freely given. (ljb)

The Clue of the Brilliant Bastard

I loved this book. It is the third series of Remingtons of the Regency. It tells the story of Hudson and Maria. Maria’s parents arranged a marriage between Maria and Lord Bradley Dennison.
Whom they thought was a kind, respectable Lord.
He was in fact a very cruel man and slapped Maria in the carriage from the wedding breakfast to his home.
Once they arrived at his home she was sent to undress and she wanted nothing to do with him.
He arrived at their bedroom and then decided he wanted to use the toilet, so when he was gone she jumped from the bedroom window, to the garden. But in jumping she hurt her ankle. But run she did.
She couldn’t find where a family friend lived but ran on and on until she fell in the road, where a very kind man picked her up and took her to another family friend who was a Doctor. Who welcomed her in and took care of her injuries. The cruel man (husband)
Was looking for her, but she was tucked up in the Doctors bed. Safe and secure.
Much trial went on throughout the book and I really didn’t want to put it down. I enjoyed it very much
And the family friend and her big family helped Maria when the horrid husband came looking for her.
I believe Mrs St Clair will be publishing book 4 later this year, and I am really looking forward to this..
Such a colourful and interesting and worrying book.
I have enjoyed reading each one of them.
Kind regards. Marilyn

Hudson and Maria so much to unpack! Hudson has always resented the Remington family as they hurled awful accusations against him at one time.
Hudson is a very good physician and devoted to his practice and patients.
His onetime interest is married and was pretty far out of his reach before then or was she?
Lady Maria has always done what she should but she realized after her wedding that she married a monster! This is one of those stories you read between your hands because you are not sure you can bear the outcome! When Maria learns her now husband has abused the maids and even murder she is very brave!
She seeks her friend Juliana and finds Hudson instead some would argue this whole thing is impossible as her husband is a peer and Hudson is a bastard and she is very much married!
But love it is! But after their lives are threatened more than once Maria decides that maybe she should leave England as it is so very hopeless since she is his property!
But her husband has committed heinous acts and there is a trail leading back to him that could see him hanged! Dare they pursue justice?
Maria has several reasons to fight for a future as it’s more than her life on the line!??
But can Hudson allow her to be a decoy to finally maybe free them from this monster who tried to burn them alive?
Bravo this one you won’t put down!!

This is the 3rd book in the Remingtons of the Regency series – and the series should be read in order due to the mystery subplot.

Maria and Hudson are interesting characters. Both have flaws they have to deal with, and which gives them strength. I like them and enjoy their romance, which began in the previous story where they met. The secondary characters add to the fabric of the main story and the subplots. As I read this story, I found myself questioning each of the secondary characters wondering if they are the one, was there a clue dropped.

We get to see the Remington’s from the previous stories, which I love. There are a couple of secondary characters that I didn’t like, but I figure that was the point. I liked how St. Clair dealt with a major stumbling block for the main characters HEA. It was very fitting 😊

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Finding her place and love

I absolutely loved Maria and Hudson’s story. He had been infatuated with her from the first time he saw her but he knew nothing could come from it. He was a bastard and she a daughter of a Marquess. Maria was married off and realized as soon as they got into the carriage it was the worst mistake of her life. Then the maid told her what kind of man her new husband was and that he has killed one of the maids,
Maria immediately escaped from the window when her husband took a pee and never looked back.
Hudson was devastated when he heard Lady Maria married but later that night he answered a knock at his door and his friend carried in non other than Lady Maria who was injured and unconscious.
A wonderfully written story with a few surprises and a beautiful ending.

My very first book by this author and I loved it! I particularly enjoyed the relationship that slowly builds up between the main characters. Maria is naïve and vulnerable, but also strong and brave. Hudson is a cinnamon roll, honorable and reliable, but sexy as well. I read this book without having read the previous books of the series and it makes a good stand-alone, even if I would have liked knowing the other characters better. But I can always catch up, and I will. The series is intriguing and well written. It has all the feeling I’m looking for in a romance. And now I’m looking forward to the next book, thanks to a very intriguing teaser…

Ellie St Clair has done it again. She has written a fantastic third story in the Remingtons of the Regency series and it does not disappoint with murder, suspense, angst, and arson.
and an on going mystery of who is threatening the Remington family.
Ellie St Clair has given readers a book that is well-written, full of suspenseful twist and turns, filled it with great cast of characters that come off the pages and pull you into this emotional ride that keeps you involved until the very end, sizzling passions, and a depraved villian who will do anything to get Marie back that brings this read together perfectly!

WOW!

Poor Maria. Owing to Giles realizing he loved Emma in book 1, Maria is painted as "deficient" because she couldn't corral the Duke. so her parents accept the first man who shows interest.

Enter the evil Dennison, who has awful secrets that come to light, luckily, before the damage could happen to Maria.

She escapes his cruelty in time, but is injured and ends at the home of the illegitimate Remington brother, Dr. Hudson Lewis.

Sparks had sort of flew around them when they encountered one another in book 2, but Hudson knew nothing could come of it.

Now, circumstances give them an opportunity to get to know one another better; but there are obstacles to overcome.

There is nothing new under the sun
After being passed over by a duke, Maria, always dutiful, accepts a marriage to a virtual stranger.
As a victim of domestic violence myself, I can sympathise with Maria when she runs from her abusive husband. The problem of abuse in a relationship has always existed, even if or maybe because it is not talked about. Too often, the victim has no choice but to undergo the abuse and I am not sure which is worse, the physical or the mental abuse. Both are abhorrent to me, certainly when they are fuelled by alcohol addiction.

Lady Maria has married a vile man at the bequest of her family, but finally escapes and finds a man who it seems she was fated to meet.

Dr Hudson Lewis is determined to take care of her and get her away from any further harm.
He turns to the Remingtons, his half siblings, because you see, he is not truly one of them. But he will do anything to help Maria.

But secrets, a mystery and angst will surround them on their journey to finding love...

There’s a lot of drama in this semi Remington sibling book.

Maria literally jumps out a window to avoid marrying an awful man. She runs directly to Dr. Hudson Lewis. I really liked Hudson. He feels less than as he’s illegitimate. But it’s his semi siblings who help. He’s truly sweet on Maria.
There’s steam, suspense and plenty of angst.
