Sophia’s quest to uncover the mystery surrounding her great-aunt Lily takes a dramatic turn as she delves deeper into the past. As she uncovers shocking revelations, Sophia is forced to confront the truth about her own life and the choices she has made.
Meanwhile, Lily’s own story takes a surprising twist as she returns to England a changed woman, struggling to reconcile her past and present. Her unresolved feelings for Winston only add to the complexity of her situation.
As Sophia and Lily’s lives intertwine, they must confront the secrets that threaten to tear them apart. With everything at stake, they must find the courage to make the right choices, even if it means facing the consequences of their actions.
Will Sophia finally uncover the truth about Lily and find happiness with her new love? And will Lily be able to move on from her past and find a way to be with the man she truly loves? The answers lie in the untold story of Lily’s time in Italy, waiting to be revealed.
Lily returns to England to her parents leaving Luigi behind but still in her heart. Winston is still there for her. Can she leave Luigi behind and move forward with Winston? Can we trust Winston with her secret?
In present day Sophia struggles with her feelings for her Italian lover. She is still searching for Lily's secret somewhere in Italy and doesn't want to leave until she finds it, but she must return to fight for custody of her son and the iminent divorce from her husband.
This is a great ending to the series and I thoroughly enjoyed every book. Especially this one and Sophia's story,
I concluded my review of THE GREAT FIGHT thusly: "Bottom line: a compelling tale and a good read!" The latest installment of Faith Isabel Bloom's saga resolves some of the mysteries, as A LIFE WELL LIVED also emerges as a compelling tale and a good read.
Bloom generally paces her plot very nicely and shifts from those parts set during World War Two to Sophia's "present day" narrative smoothly. I would gladly offer 4.5 stars if Goodreads offered us that option: clearly better than 4; not quite 5.
Of course, I am still not altogether comfortable with the rather small chunks we receive, and I suspect that some readers share my impatience to learn "the rest of the story." On the other hand, the very fact that I am left awaiting the next installment proves the author has once again "hooked the reader" (i.e., captured his/her attention).
I must also articulate some doubts about the interpolation of so many short exchanges in Italian. As one who can understand these passages, I find the bracketed translations interrupt the otherwise perfect flow of the plot, and I suspect the Italian texts have the same effect on those who depend upon the translations. More to the point, I am not at all convinced that numerous dialogues in a foreign language actually add anything substantive to such short narratives. [I would not express such an objection within the framework of a longer volume.]
These reservations aside, I shall again compliment the author for another fine volume and await her next. [NB: I received an ARC of this book.]
I’ve been following this story since the beginning and I can’t put into words how much more I enjoy this book than the others. A little more closure for Sophia (and the reader) and oh! that Italian!
This describes Lily perfectly: ..their baby girl was long gone, having been replaced by a different person. Love and war had made me into what I was today, and there was no going back for me.
The above expresses how many of feel after having gone through a trauma, be it war, loss of someone close, local tragedy, etc. It’s being able to pick up the pieces and craft a new life based on that different person.
This was a good book again by Faith Isabel Bloom to the series of The Beauty of secrets and lies Sofia on her quests for Lily found more answers in Italy along with staying in Luigi pants 😂 I just love how she has went there and got Totally distracted with that man. But she found more answers about her aunt Lily as well as found out Lily commuted treason while living in Italy and her husband/ lover Luigi was taken away by the black shirts for it and she moved away back to Britain during this time. There’s so much new feed going on in this book it’s a must read‼️
The conclusion of this series answers all questions about what happened during the war and what Sophia plans to do with her future. This is a well researched story that puts the reader in the story walking along with Sophia as she fulfilled her aunt's final wish with the history of the time as part of the story. I would recommend it to history buffs. I received an advance copy of this book and this is my honest review.
If you are a history buff I highly recommend this series. A lot of tears in some of the books. How can one girl cause so many problems and yet come out of it safe from the war and as the title of this last book: A Life Well Lived. I truly enjoyed reading this series. It was as if I was right there with Lily and Sophia as they journey through life.
I was given this book in advance and this is my honest review.
