Freshly finished I don’t need to marinate in my feelings for my opinion of Horse to gel. From the first chapters it rose to the top of my best books read in 2022 and I knew it would stay.
I felt placed into the settings with the marvelous descriptions of the characters and surroundings. Cutting to the future then back to the past wasn’t in the least annoying as it is in some books. As I have a background with horses and horse racing most of what’s outlined here is well thought out and believable, however, the story is well seasoned with historical and scientific facts that enriched my knowledge. That is always appreciated.
More of. 3.8 for me as although I found the story interesting and well written it wasn’t one that I just couldn’t wait to get back to reading. It is based on a real horse that I knew nothing about , and given how spectacular he was I should have, and is told about his life with his black slave trainer as well as in present day about a black scholar who is studying him via a painting that has come into his possession.
