Mind blowing story and Illustrations
In a wonderfully written, picture book, Gray Cells, Volume 1+, Lawrence Goodman wraps a great story, along with the talented, artist illustrations by Kay, sending the protagonist, Lina Santos on a journey to cover a story about a missing child. After getting pushed by her editor, and the boy’s mom, Lina enters the city and finds more clues, and also an interesting character, The Frog Man. With many barriers of police, the typical traps of the city, and a difficult mother, Lina continues on her quest to find the boy, Josh.

I loved the characters created– the bad mother, Cherry, who plays the part to the max with her crinkled face and sneers, pack-a-day smoking, plus all the F-bombs she throws in the story, and along with a stint in jail and her rehab friends. Dante, the mysterious one, who wants to help find Josh, but puts up a lot of barriers. And, finally, Tim Arthur, the typical editor, on his final years at the paper, trying to convince another wannabe writer to come up with a great story.

All in All, great character depictions, superb color drawings with high-end action shots and great narrative, which was easy to follow throughout the entire work. I recommend this work of art to anyone who enjoys a good crime thriller inside a picture or comic book that brings excellent illustrative work to the reader.

I received a copy of this for free, to review for Booktasters.

I don't often read graphic novels, so I enjoyed this format as a refreshing change - it was nice, light reading. Having said that, I didn't really connect with the characters, or with what was going on. There was a lot of profanity and I felt like sometimes, that made the characters come across as unlikeable.

Thank you to Booktasters and the author for a free copy to review.
