“This was a well-written book with great characters, great plot, and loads of eerie fun. There is nothing violent in the book to upset younger readers, but there is enough mysterious happenings to keep the older folks entertained.” (Reviewing on behalf of my 11 yr who read this book)
"I absolutely loved it! Just the right amount of scary. It kept me on the edge of my seat!”
Perfect for Ages 8-12, and readers who love whimsical wonders & fantastical adventures.
I think I liked this book best of all, as I really love witches, but our young team of heroes found out to their horror that there are two kinds of witches, the good and the bad ones, and that their island was being infested by the bad ones. They were due to crown a new witch queen, come full moon night, in a coronation ceremony, and many witches wanted to raise the evil and very powerful Ragnhild. The kids discovered that a good witch had been turned into a monster, and was being held prisoner, and then one of our valiant team is captured. How are they going to stop the ritual, free the prisoner and get back their own safely? Dylan was to be the chief ghost witch slayer, whilst Zach was the rescuer and wand collector, during the much expected ritual night, but even the best laid plans can go awry especially when facing witches who had dark magical powers. Flying broomsticks, magic wands, black bubbling cauldrons, bats and witches galore is what one can expect to read about in this book, and a final battle where good thrives over evil as Dylan once again saves the day and Weirdbey Island. So now what is flying once again outside Dylan's window at night?
( Format : Audiobook ) "A stolen wand, bubbling cauldrons and vines that bind." The witches are coming, flying to the Island for the coronation of their queen. With strange howlings from the bushes and a garden party where the food still squirms on the plate, it's up to Dylan and his three friends to once again save the day if he can, despite the interference of his slightly older brother, Jamie. This slightly scary ghostly Middle Grade mystery horror story, fifth in the series, continues to delight readers in the 8 - 12 are range, and adults so much older, in large part because of narrator J.Scott Bennett whose adept performance captures the thrills and fears of the Island happenings, his delicious voice similar to a gently sinister Vincent Price. Fears, laughs and friendship, danger, adventure and sibling rivalry, plus witches. What's not to like?
My thanks to the rights holder who, at my request, freely gifted me a complimentary copy of The Witches of Whidbey Island. A great book for Middle Grade readers.
It’s another weird visit to Whidbey Island and I loved it. This time it’s witches and things that go bump in the night as our young gang once again find themselves in the thick of it all. Good witches, bad witches, monsters and ghosts, magic, mystery, suspense this latest adventure has it all. It’s fast paced, it’s exciting, it’s fun and a little eerie but as Dylan and his friends battle on to prove good defeats evil and to save the day you will find yourself holding your breath and gripping the edge of your seat. Great gripping storyline, great characters I have adored this series since book one!
Dylan and his friends are in the throes of witches, a stolen magic wand and older siblings who enjoy bullying their younger siblings. Good witches, bad witches and bullying siblings, which group would you want to have "for" or "against" you?
