BATTLE AND BETRAYAL The invasion has begun. The Demon King's armies are bearing down on the humans, ravaging the main forces from country after country. The heroes from another world, once the students of Class 2-C, are fighting for their lives against impossible odds. But when a figure in a black robe and fly mask appears on the battlefield, will this mysterious person turn the tide? And how will Mimori Touka use his incredible abilities in the face of a continent-wide war?
The biggest issue with this book is that the MC is not the MC. Touka's impact on the main plotline is laughable. Instead, we shift to the demon war frontlines and have to suffer the indignity of caring for people who are detestable, or too naive to survive. This is the chickens coming home to roost -- the inability of the author to focus on any side character in the previous novels resulted in this mess. I don't care for the rest of Touka's classmates. Not a single one of them. And the author has failed to give them enough screentime for me to develop more than a cursory attachment. They exist as names, stat lines, and pawns on a map.
Offsetting this is the author's innate ability to take the nastiest, most detestable mechanism of winning any battle, and making it the prime plan of every character with agency. Backstabbing is the default option. Tricks, misdirection, and human shields are always in play. There's nothing resembling a warrior's code of honor. It's kill or be killed. It's probably quite realistic. It's certainly a breath of fresh air to read.
And so the two things balance out. I would love to give this four stars. But clearly, it's a recommendation with reservations.
This web/light novel series really has little to no originality, better web/light novel series like Arifureta from Commonplace to World's Strongest, Is it really wrong to pick up girls in a Dungeon?, That time I got reincarnated as a Slime, etc...that are older light novel series and have been more successful... In this Volume 5, Touka finally reaches Erika the Forbidden Witch and gains a very wise and strong ally, especially the shelter of her hidden forest lair. While this happens, the rest of the students from class 2-C are trying to defend the all-out invasion of the Demon Lord. While some of the weaker "heroes" give their lives to the defense of this "other world", there are students that change sides and betray humanity. While most of the students were fighting/dying/running away, Touka was having the time of his life in his Elf-honeymoon... This volume 5 has 5 chapters and 250+ pages. The original series in Japanese is already on the 9th. book volume.
A very horribly boring book. The only part worth reading is the last part as we finally see battle on a level worthy of ATTACK ON TITAN. The fight scene is ridiculously gory but at the same time it seems an accurate depiction of what it must be to fight an army of monsters.
The author needs to learn hoe to write better. Stop making the character always sound confused with "Eh?!" Or my personal new hate phrase "you know!?" The author uses these phrases so much I noe believe class 2C is a class of confused idiots who do not know how to speak.
This volume continues from the previous arc, where the MC reached his goal to find the Forbidden Witch. The story develops nicely, and continues in a great way. The characters continue to be developed by the author at a good pace. Although, there are so many characters that sometimes is hard to follow them, know who is who, or which character is in which location. Despite this, the author introduces a great battle is some action pack chapters that keep you reading. Despite the overpowered abilities of the MC, the combat scenes are not boring at all. A great volume in this series.
There are dozens of typos in this version dozens of Ls turned into capital I’s and doesn’t take away from the story but seemed unacceptable from a professional editor and publishing company looking it over I understand it was originally written in Japanese. But no other light novel I’ve read hasn’t had more than just a couple typos including the first four volumes of this one the story it self is worth 4-5 stars though.
This volume was pretty good as we start getting some action to payoff four volumes of buildup. We finally get to see which heroes are able to meet the challenges and who chokes when it counts.
A climax rather quick in this book, I would have waited for the reveal at the end but maybe thats an Aragon arriving with reinforcements coming to mind.
