Sarah was born in London and now lives in a village in South Northamptonshire. She gained a Masters degree in Eighteenth-Century French and English art from the Courtauld Institute of Art, before teaching art in secondary schools for thirteen years. After working with human rights organisations that protect minority groups from institutional abuse, Sarah worked towards a PhD at The Open University, researching the effect of secrecy on marginalised people, specifically the biological children of Roman Catholic priests. She has spoken about her research on various news programmes for the BBC and other media outlets around the world. It was this sense of secrecy and silencing that became the inspiration for her first crime novel, The Convent.
Sarah is hugely obsessed with reading and is amassing such an unrealistically large book collection that some of it is now in storage. She is also addicted to writing, and after inventing stories (mostly in secret) from a young age and having various articles and short stories published, she wrote a children's book, The Top Secret Diary of Davina Dupree - inspired by her daughter - in 2013. Overjoyed to hear that young readers were enjoying the story, she went on to write a series about Davina Dupree.
When she is not looking after her three children and menagerie of pets, or going for long walks with her wonderful partner Rich, Sarah can be found writing, while consuming large amounts of chocolate.
A PERFECT FAMILY is a thriller by bestselling author Sarah Sheridan. In this novel, a young woman starts having doubts about her dream man in this unsettling thriller from the bestselling author of Girl in Bed Three. Having read and enjoyed Girl in Bed Three, I was anxious to read her latest novel, A Perfect Family.
Her Stand-Alone Novels Include: Devil's Play (2021) Girl in Bed Three (2022) A Perfect Family (2022)
This is my review of A Perfect Family.
Six family members of the same family, the Bryants, were found hanging in their conservatory. Detective Sergeant Moretti, who is now leading the investigation, has not disclosed causes of death…suicide or murder.
Ellen is thrilled to have Jack Bryant as a best friend and roommate. She would be even happier to have him as a boyfriend. Ellen doesn’t just love Jack, she loves his entire family—so perfect, so wealthy, so self-assured and confident. She had first met Jack through his sister, Sabrina, and had been in love with Jack for quite a while, but she could never tell him how she felt about him, for fear of ruining the friendship.
Then, one terrible Saturday morning, the victims were discovered by the eldest son, Jack Bryant, and his best friend and roommate, nineteen-year-old Ellen. They had gone to visit his family home.
After the discovery of the family victims, Jack is numb and unable to speak or cope with the situation. He had lost his whole immediate family. Ellen, while devastated, knew she needed to look after Jack, making sure he was surviving the ordeal.
But Ellen’s mum warns Ellen that “the Bryant family is a complicated one.”
Little by little, Ellen learns that beneath the family outward appearance, there was abuse and dysfunction. But the more Jack reveals about why he had to leave the house and its dark secrets, the more Ellen wonders if Jack is involved in any of this.
This was a well-written thriller with relatable characters and short chapters to build up the tension.
Many thanks to the author, and Bloodhound Books for my digital copy.
Well, well, well, where do I start and more to the point how can I put into words how much I loved this latest thriller from Sarah Sheridan. The lady is an absolute genius. From the first page to the last Ellen’s young life is completely taken up with her love for her bestie and roommate Jack Bryant. Unfortunately Ellen’s love is not reciprocated but far worse than that Jack uses Ellen to such horrific depths that he even tries to kill her like he did the rest of his family. I am not posting spoilers, you will have to pick this book up yourself to discover how truly terrifying and insane Jack is and how utterly fantastic it is that Ellen finally escapes with her young life still ahead of her. 10 out of 10 Sarah Sheridan for such outstanding writing and 10 out Heather and Bloodhound ARC for allowing me to read and review this book before it’s publication date.

I enjoyed this suspenseful story. This is not my first book by this author but this is one of my favorites. One of the things I enjoy most about this author is her ability to pull me into the story but her creative writing skills. This is a fast paced story that is hard to put down. A story that is full of twists and turns that had me sitting on the edge of my seat just waiting to see what would happen next. This is a story that has characters that I related too. They are strong, engaging and creative which brought the story to life. This is a story where you are pulled into the story and has you coming back for more. This is a great story that I truly enjoyed. I highly recommend this book.
This book was a gripping roller coaster ride from the start. A seemingly perfect family is found dead all hanged. There is one survivor Jack who appears devastated by what has happened.
The story is told in the first person from the point of view of Ellen a close friend of the family and who idolises Jack. Slowly as she explores what happens and why she realises that her perfect family was anything but....
I loved that the reader discovered events at the same time as the protagonist. Although I would say that some of the events were so bizarre that they would defy belief I'm pretty certain that I've seen the true crime documentary that the writer may have loosely based this on.
Whilst the person responsible isn't a surprise the characters are so well written that you genuinely don't care. You are rooting for Ellen as everything she thought she knew goes up in flames.
This book is addictive and gripped me to the point that I finished it in two sessions simply because I couldn't put it down. Can't recommend it enough and am off to locate some other titles by this author!
This was a chilling high paced thriller which I enjoyed. Ellen is in love with her best friend, who's family she has always regarded as perfect. When they arrive one morning to discover 6 members of his family hanging, his world is turned upside down, and Ellen vows to help him But as the investigation progresses, she starts to wonder if she ever knew him, or his family at all. This was written as a fast pace, with a series of very short chapters adding to the feeling of suspense building. Thanks to Bloodhound books for sending me an advanced copy to read and review. Would recommend this to anyone who enjoys a thriller.
Wow! This book was incredible, the characters are so believable and you warm to Ellen and Jack and want their relationship to work. And then they find all of Jack’s family dead in their conservatory - was it mass suicide or murder? I can’t say anymore without giving the story away but I have never read anything like it and it is absolutely fantastic! I was given an ARC in exchange for a review but my views are my own.
Ellen is in love with her best friend Jack who seems to have the perfect family but all is not what it seems.
Fast paced and leaves you trying to work what has really happened.
I gave this 4 stars only because I worked out what was going on about half way through and I was hoping for a twist somewhere that I didn’t see coming, unfortunately that didn’t happen.
A perfect family by Sarah Sheridan. Nineteen-year-old Ellen is thrilled to have Jack Bryant as a best friend and roommate. She would be even happier to have him as a boyfriend. Ellen doesn’t just love Jack, she loves his entire family—so perfect, so wealthy, so envied by the neighbours. This was a really good read. Chilling.Fast paced. Surprising. 4*.
Today, I finished reading A Perfect Family by Sarah Sheridan for Bloodhound ARC group. This was a tense, thrilling and twisty psychological thriller. It was very hard to put it down once I started to read it, as this novel had so many plot twists. It held my attention from the very first page to the last one. Throughout this thriller, I wished for the main character to remain strong and survive. What an exciting plot this novel had. The novel was unexpected and took the reader on a dark and twisted journey following a seemingly perfect family which was anything but. It was a proper ‘do not believe what you see’ novel. I liked the character development in this novel, how the main character develops from an average student at school with low self-esteem to an unbelievably strong woman, who survives two horrific ordeals, and how the culprit is portrayed. He appears pleasant and nice at the beginning but is in fact cruel, evil and controlling. I loved this slow development of the character’s personalities as the story unfolded. I loved the author’s writing style, and discovering a new author for me whose writing I really like. This was a first novel that I’ve read by Sarah Sheridan but I’m looking forward to reading more in the future. I’m giving this exciting and thrilling novel 5 stars as it gripped my attention throughout.
This is the first book that I have read by Sarah Sheridan, and I don’t think it will be the last! This is a very dark, and sad tale of Jack, clearly taking advantage of the feelings of Ellen, a friend who has loved him since they were children. Jack displays classic coercive control techniques on numerous occasions, and sadly, for a time at least, Ellen is totally blinded to his behaviour. (In places, I was willing Ellen to find her strength and fight back, I was so happy when she did.)
I especially liked the sense of atmosphere the author created, however, I will say that some of the sentences used did feel quite young - I don’t know if this is since Ellen is an 18-year-old, or just the authors way of writing, but it did feel a bit clunky in places, as, in my opinion, it jarred with the smooth writing that makes up most of the book.
All in all, a gripping read, which gets a solid 4 stars from me.
Ellen is living with her best friend, Jack. She has known him since school and she has secretly been in love with him for years. One day whilst visiting Jack’s family they make a shocking discovery. All six members of Jacks immediate family are dead, in a suspected suicide pact. But is that what really happened to them ? And if so what lead them to taking their own lives ?
Little by little Ellen starts to discover that Jack’s family weren’t quite as perfect as she thought. Could she really have been blind to what was happening to Jack and his family ? What else has Ellen been missing ?
This is a great fast paced thriller with a chilling start, that will have you totally hooked. The characters are brilliant and you really get invested in Ellen and hope that everything works out for her. A real quick page turner.
Thank you to Bloodhound Books for a digital copy of this book.
This book has a fantastic start for a thriller, as we discover the loss of a family under tragic circumstances.
I enjoyed the style of writing and that as Ellen was discovering certain things aren’t always as they seem, so we were as readers.
There were some sections that seemed repetitive but putting yourself in Ellen’s position as a young girl you would perhaps over think the same things again and again, especially if it was under tragic circumstances like these, so I would like to hope that maybe it was deliberate as part of her characterisation rather than a writing flaw.
This book had a good pace and kept me interested enough to keep wanting to read more, unfortunately the exciting twist I was hoping for never came and I found the backstory of the dysfunctional family more interesting than what followed after.
This book comes out August 22, 2022, the paperback comes out August 8th of 2022. The other titles book by Sarah Sheridan are called, Girl in the Bed Three, The Temptress, The Sister Veronica Mysteries: 1 The Convent, 2ndThe Disciple, and 3rdThe Tormented. also, Devil's Play all by Author Sarah Sheridan, Now the newer Release is A Perfect Family by Sarah Sheridan.
Innocent Ellen Waldron is with Jack Bryant when they found his family all six bodies hang in the conservatory ceiling hanging. and the only one still alive is Jack Bryant. The news, and scenes are so horrible to witness. The mother, grandmother, the sisters, and brothers. The detective on the case is Detective Sergeant Moretti. This story is entertaining, compelling, and a real thriller. I enjoyed reading this one, it had murder and mayhem.
When a book opens detailing six deaths in the first paragraph, then you know that you are in for a great story. They are the family of Jack and along with his friend Ellen, they find the bodies. The story is told from Ellen's perspective however as she is totally in awe and in love with Jack, her views are somewhat hazy and she refuses initially to listen to anyone else about his family. The story twists and turns and as the reader, you're not quite sure what to make of Jack albeit he is very convincing especially to Ellen! I think we all have known an "Ellen" at school and so it is easy to see her viewpoint and as children, we don't comprehend what else may be going on that we are unaware of. A good story with a fast paced ending!
Ellen was always envious of her friend's family the Bryants. She grew up with Sabrina and Jack even fell in love with Jack even though Jack doesn't know this. But that all came crashing down when she and Jack went to his house and found all of his family members dead. That was the start of the unveiling of this 'perfect family'. The mask that was worn by the family is slowly coming off. This causes problems for Ellen, so much she doesn't know who to believe. Jack or his Aunt Marjorie. Even Ellen's mother tried to warn her, but that just caused a rift between them. Who can she believe? Jack? Margorie? Her mother? Or her own heart? I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.
Six members of a family are found hanging in the conservatory of their house by the one surviving member Jack and his room mate Ellen. Ellen is in love with Jack who is her best friend and she vows to help him discover who has done this terrible thing to his family who she has always regarded as perfect. As the story develops she discovers that they aren't as perfect as she thought.
This is a well written, fast paced thriller with well drawn characters and a suspenseful plot that I found hard to put down. It is the first book I have read by this author and I will definitely be reading more.
I loved the way this book started off which immediately drew my interest.
Whilst it was well paced overall I thought it was somewhat repetitive in parts. I also found the main character’s unwavering (at times) trust in Jack somewhat illogical. Of course, you could put that down to her complete infatuation with him?
Overall I thought the plot was not convincing enough for me but an interesting read nevertheless.
I received a free copy of this book through ARC Bloodhound Books - thanks! I have given an honest review.
I really like the storyline but it was painfully slow book. If not the curiousity to know what's will be the end I probably would give up. This will be perfect book for those readers who like to know what's going on in main character mind. I like more action. In this book action was slow, for example, to get from point A to B took a whole chapter. And I can't say that information in that chapter was important to main story. But as I said, the storyline is brilliant!
Ellen is such an eye rollingly pathetic protagonist, she reads like a 12 year old child, not an 18/19 year old uni student. There’s no way anyone would be that unbelievably naive to something so glaringly obvious. It’s clear there’s something strange about Jack to literally everyone but her which makes the story so painful to read from her point of view. Many times I nearly gave up on finishing it and I think the only reason I didn’t was because some parts gave me and my partner a good laugh (and not in a good way!)
I was given an ARC of this book and I enjoyed it. The first page held so much promise so didn't take much to get into. Did he or didn't he do it? That's what keeps you reading. I found some parts frustrating as the time line didn't fit. The author mentions events that were described as a few days ago when actually it was the night before. That was the downside of this book for me. Overall though it was an enjoyable read.
This book gripped me from the first page. A whole family found dead, but is it a suicide pact or something more sinister? This book rockets along at 100mph and barely lets you catch a breath. Ellen and Jack find the bodies, and very quickly secrets from the past are uncovered. Definitely not what I was expecting when I initially read the blurb. It exceeded all expectations. Thank you to Bloodhound Books for the ARC.
This book grabbed me from page one. We learned that a whole family is dead except from one of the members, was it murder or suicide? Is everything that we see the reality? Those are the question we try to decipher, along with Ellen the main character of the book. I like the writing and the way the author builds the excitement throughout the book until we reach the peak of the suspense and we find the answers to our questions. This is a book that will grab you from beginning to end.
Lots to take in with this new novel by Sarah Sheridan. I found it different to the other books I’ve read and I really enjoyed it. Ellen wishes she has a family like Jack’s. She is in love with him and friends with his sister and then that all changes when all of his family are found by them both, hanging from the ceiling. As the story unravels, all is not what it seems and we get a brilliant thriller!
Thanks to Bloodhound books and the author for the ARC in exchange for an honest review. This story centres around Ellen and her best friend Jack Bryant who she is secretly in love with. They find 6 members of jacks family hung in the family home and Detective sergeant Moretti is sent to investigate. Was it mass suicide or murder and what underlying secrets were there in the seemingly perfect family. A great thriller with short chapters. Kept me hooked till the end.
A chilling psychological thriller that grabbed me from the beginning. Some parts are repetitive and some parts are slow but overall it was a great read. Little by little you get invested on the characters and start wondering if Ellen missed something? Jack’s family is not perfect as she thought when she discovered the immediate family died. What happened? Were they murdered or suicide? I enjoyed the story and I hope to see more.
Thank you to Heather from Bloodhound Books for giving me an opportunity to review.
This is my second book by Sarah Sheridan, it sounded really good so I decided to give it a read after enjoying the girl in bed three. This book held my interest and I really felt for the characters, I did however find it a little predicatble and knew who was responsible pretty much from the beginning. That being said I did enjoy the book and would read more from this author.
Wow! This book is excellent, the characters are so believable. The chapters are quite short and this adds to the tension as it mounts towards the Finale. I had previously read Girl in Bed Three which I thoroughly enjoyed as well and will look out for more books by Sarah. I was given an ARC in exchange for a review but my views are my own.
I loved the opening lines definitely made me want to read more.
Ellen’s character and her love for Jack is clear. The plot does seem to have a little inconsistency in the time line I noticed and I managed to work out the plot before the end. However I did continue to know I was right and enjoyed the book in the main.
A first for me with this author and it won’t be my last, a well written storyline with characters that you real feel for, some in a good way some in a bad way. I won’t write about the storyline as I feel it’s a job for the blurb to peak your interest and draw you in, for me it certainly did. It grabbed me at the first chapter and never really let go till the last chapter.
