The plan was to remain alone. Live alone. Work alone. Die alone. Everyone leaves me in the end anyways, so why not spare myself the pain? That was the plan until five years ago….when I fell in love with a federal agent who was investigating my best friend. Now, I would do anything to keep him from leaving.
James
My life had one end goal. To become the best agent in the bureau. Nothing else mattered to me. I was assigned the biggest case in the country. Nothing was going to get in my way. Then she happened. An auburn haired force of nature that knocked me on my ass. I was hers then. Now, nothing could keep me from
Brittany is an author of suspenseful, roller coaster romances with a sprinkle of dark on top!
Brittany has dreamed of being an author since she was fourteen years old. You would always be able to find her with her nose buried in a book or scribbling down stories in old notebooks. Today, she is living her dream by writing epic love stories with morally gray MMCs and strong FMCs. She is extremely grateful for every single one of her readers.
The Batter Up Series is her debut series and is the foundation of her fictional world. She is big fan of interconnected stories and loves creating her own that her readers will be obsessed with. Brittany has just published The Langston Brothers Duet and The Burnout Series, a spin-off of the BU series. She is about to publish a dark bounty hunter romance that's set in this wild world, which is on releasing 08/26/2024.

I loved getting to learn more about Haley & James' relationship in this book and the slight switch in focus it took away from Dean and Gwen. I'm completely invested in this series and love the dark mafia, baseball and street racing elements from this book.
I feel like I've been on the edge of my seat this entire time and love that it isn't predictable at all. I can't even imagine how this series will end!!
I was not ready for this wild, unruly, and suspenseful romance book. Hailey is the sweetest person in the world and I found some of myself reflected in her. James needs to be protected at all costs. I need to know how this story continues. To the next book, Grand Slam I go!
She did it again folks! Let’s just say 3rd book in and it’s been nothing home runs all the way across the board ⚾️
The first two books were geared mainly around Dean and Gwen, but still connected you to the rest of the characters as a whole. Making you feel apart of this crew, but more so a tight knit family of people you wouldn’t necessarily find together. This book covers the journey of James and Hailey, and what a ride it has been.
These books are written in a way that it feels like a movie, or a great tv series is playing out in front of you. You can just visualize each scene has it happens, you grow a deep bond with each one of the characters which she has built. Absolutely amazing job in this series so far, an original plot, character and scenarios.
This book is full of uncovering hidden truths, found family and second chance romance. There are so many action packed scenes, from murders of the enemies, to high speed chases from the mafia attempting to infiltrate this inner circle. Lots of steamy scenes (per usual 🔥), and an ending that has me craving the next book in this series.
If you’re looking for an enrapturing sports romance series to start, this would be your sign to pick these books up and get lost in the world of this drama ridden family, who seem to beat the odds , never give up on each other and come out on top.
'I never intended to love him. Everyone always leaves. I am always thrown aside and left behind. Unworthy Unimportant Unlovable Weak A waste'
Haley, sweet, vulnerable, broken Haley. If ever a sentence or a character related to me so much - Its this one. Like her, the most important people in my life said those things and I still feel those things. Those words make up my entire opinion of myself and its so fucking hard to undo. Yet no matter who I surround myself with. No matter who loves me - like Haley I just can't bring myself to believe otherwise.
It's crazy jow the words of a stranger can rip you apart and expose the rarest parts of your broken soul.
The journey of healing for all of the characters in this book was intense, realistic, earth-shatteringly qccurate, yet still fictional. Go figure.
Haley and James and so beyond perfect for each other. If only they would tryst the love the other has for them. She thinks he sees her as weak. He sees her as a fucking warrior.
@authorbrittanyann_ Has honestly smashed it. Usually with some series it starts to get repetitive and watered down and you lose the rawness of the story and the characters but this series has absolutely smashed it out of the park so far - pun intended. The way she writes from multiple POV and each one is as detailed and authentic as the last is unreal.
Collin surprised me in this book. There was a hint of redemption. Only a hint. Don't get excited. A massive part of me wants to believe that he wasn't always bad and that he's just as broken as the rest of us. But we shall see.
FINALLY I get to read Grand Slam!
🖤 Quotes 🖤
'Everyone leaves, it was just a matter of time. That’s the thing about this life. The world doesn’t give a shit if your heart is broken, it is still going to spin. The sun will still rise and set, no matter how many tears you cry. The world doesn’t care about your pain and eventually you won’t care about it either.'
'To the ones fighting internal battles. To the survivors of an abusive tongue. You matter. I see you. Don’t listen to the voices.'
2.5⭐️ - so the plot line definitely has some awesome potential, I just feel like the overall writing/editing was very sub-par.
This series is riddled with spelling and continuity errors. Names of characters aren’t even consistent. Tech girl went from Casey Gomez to being called “Chavez” later in the next chapter. Later on a friend of Jeremy’s was referred to as both Tyrone and Anthony in the same scene. Not even a few paragraphs from each other.
Overall the story is pretty good. This book focused mainly on the story of Haley and James, and while they did “resolve” their issues, there’s still a lot left unsaid. The author seems to use physical intimacy a lot in arguments, and sometimes that’s fine, but Haley clearly needs further reassurance, and just them having sex to resolve issues really wasn’t doing it for me. They needed to talk more and come to a solution instead of just going through the past and admitting they did something wrong.
While I don’t need a HEA at the end of every book, they all just seem so unresolved, you can leave on a cliff hanger, but if you’re going to dedicate a couple per book they need to feel more resolved, unless they’re intended to be a duet. Haley and James just felt like the same argument over and over again with no movement forward.
Overall plot line, Haley and Gwen get more information about what happened with James and Dean undercover, and James is trying to open up as much as he can to get Haley to trust him. However, he is getting pressure from the bureau to keep his relationship a secret so that the investigation isn’t compromised.
Not super impressed with this book, the story line is enough to keep me interested to want to finish, but really lacking overall.
ANOTHER CLIFFY?! Brittany, respectfully, my heart cannot take any more.
This has been my favourite in the series so far. James has my whole heart and his filthy mouth does borderline embarrassing things to me (although it did almost start to border on cringe at some points). His possessive touch her and 💀 vibes were also everything. I loved the relationships between the boys (James, Dean and Jeremy) and the way each of them would do anything to protect all of the girls, not just their own.
Haley's insecurities caused by trauma from the emotional abuse she suffered at the hands of her mother made my heart ache. She struggles to see her worth, her value but the rest of the group try their hardest to remind her she is a part of their found family, she belongs there. James finally shows her he is willing to put her first, trust her and in her acceptance of that, he found the space to be finally be open and vulnerable with her in return. I am praying they get a HEA or else I'm gonna be big mad.
I love the multiple POV of this series. Each book is mostly based on one couple but we get so much in each of them to set us up for upcoming books. We get so much James and Haley in this book but we get Dean, Gwen, the always cute Aiden and also a lot of Jeremy and Collin too. Each book gets me more excited for the next. I wasn't sure how Brittany was gonna make me like Collin but I'm already softening to him and I reckon she's gonna make me fall in love with him in 'Grand Slam'. And Jeremy's pent up anger mixed with the sexual tension between him and Casey has me begging for 'Slugger' to be here already.
So being the massive baseball fan that I am, I couldn't wait to swan dive head first into this series! I mean really.. Hot baseball players, a federal agent and Mafia problems... Count me in! LET ME JUST TELL YOU. BRITTANY ANN DID NOT DISSAPOINT!
I fell in love with Dean and Gwen in the first 2 books of this series, so when I heard book 3 was focused on Haley and James... I was really excited because I couldn't wait to see how their stories (together and individually) played out. I felt like in book 1 and 2 they played such a key roll into everything, so I was eager to see what happened.
I loved everything about Strike Zone. From learning more in depth about the trauma both Haley and James have suffered from during their childhoods, to trying to navigate through the crash course of their relationship ALL WHILE still being directly involved in the situation with the Ramano Family. I also LOVE the fact that even though Haley & James seem to be a solid focus, we still get multiple points of view throughout the entire book!
I can guarantee that you will find yourself having all sorts of feelings during this read. I found myself going from teary eyed and swooning to yelling at a character for their impulse decision making, all in the matter of 2 chapters! It's a wild ride. I promise you that you will not be upset you indulged in the Batter Up series.
I cannot wait to see where the 4th (and final) installment takes us, how everything ties together, and how this adventure concludes! Yet, I'm not so sure my heart is ready to let go of these characters yet!
"I call you 'princess' because you are precious to me. You are my royalty. You are my hope. You are my dream. You are strong. You are something to this world and everything to me."
I finally got to read about James and Haley's relationship and oh goodness....I just love them. Up until this point it has just been little snippets of them here and there but readers finally....FINALLY get their story.
I would say that James is so perfect it becomes a fault to him and almost causes him to lose Haley, the only woman for him. He is so "by the book" in his FBI position that it takes Haley's life being threatened for him to realize she comes first....not the job.
Their story is sweet yet heartbreaking and frustrating. So many times I was mad at one or both of them because they are their worst own enemies when it all comes down to it. Then just as promises are made and love is confessed their lives are shaken up once again and all I can say is the world had best look out because James Garner will be on a war path.
When I read the blurb for this I wondered how much of all the other characters we would see and the answer is we see them a lot and I loved it. I wasn't ready to let go of Dean and Gwen and I got my fill of them. Collin and Kay...I need their story because they have me so intrigued. Then there is Jeremy and Casey. I will get to them and I loved seeing all of the other side characters we have gotten to know along the way. What I have come to realize is that Brittany seems to have the main plot and then there is a side plot that will be going on at the same time. Now, on to book four!
This book starts up where book 2 ended with Dean and Gwen reuniting along with the adorable and smart little Aiden. These three had me smiling each time I came accross their POVs.
But we also get the main focus of the heartbreaking and constant push and pull type of relationship between Haley and James. Haley's childhood trauma resurfaces each time her fear of feeling unneeded and the threat of abandonment beings to creep in. While James is on a constant battle of whether he will let Haley in and tell her his secrets or risk loosing her because of his job. When these two finally talked I was so happy, their communication, though strained began to blossom, and then that cliffhanger struck. I was so not ready for it at all and my heart broke.
Though I loved returing back to the Batter Up world, I did feel like this book dragged a bit compared to the previous 2, though that plot twist toward the end got me. Overall, I enjoyed it and can't wait to read the next book when it releases.
“You love me. Don’t try to deny it. You never stopped loving me, just like I never stopped loving you. You are my beginning and ending, Haley Austen.”
|Strike Zone| ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 🌶🌶🌶.5
Strike Zone, the third book in the BU series, has everything you need:
🖤 Touch her and 🗡🗡 🖤 Found Family 🖤 Mafia Ties 🖤 Unhinged FBI Agents 🖤 Strong, even if she doesn’t see it herself, FMC
Haley and James, a forbidden love. Haley and James, my favorite BU couple. Haley and James, endgame.
This story picks up right where Swing Batter Swing left off, the gang back together in Sullies Bar trying to figure out where to go from there. Leaving Haley and James to figure out where their relationship is headed.
Haley wants to be loved so badly but is terrified of being left. James has so much love to give but is terrified that he isn’t worthy enough to give it. Watching their love story unfold was beyond anything I could’ve imaged it would be. The way Brittany writes her stories, they just grab you by the hair and drag you right down into them. I mean that in the best possible way.
A note to Brittany, You broke my heart, you mended it, broke it again, and LEFT ME HANGING. I will love you forever but right now, I hate you. I hope Dean does what he does best, makes your legs give out, to you. In the most disrespectful way of course 😏😈
This book switches to two characters from Batter up and Swing Batter Swing, to their story. Oh my goodness, all the drama and events that happened in this book had me shook! This book has me without words on how to describe it without spoiling because everything that happens is WOW and then the DANG cliffhanger at the end again!! I am a wreck after reading this one, but I cannot stop reading Brittany Ann's books. She just gives me all the emotions and feelings, and escaping reality in her books is so easy with her writing. Now I cannot even think of anything aside from I need to stop typing to read Grand Slam (book 4).
Would I recommend it? HECK YES! If you are okay with the trigger warnings and want a good dark romance to feel the feels and emotions, Batter Up series is a must-read!
This is book 3 and continues the Batter Up series. These are not stand alone a in any way! This book focused mainly on Haley and James. There are time jumps and multiple POVs. Hailey and James have a very angsty relationship due to the way their relationship starts and James’ career as an FBI agent. Haley has family abandonment and parental abuse trauma that great imparts her opinions of her self worth. She breaks my heart but is so strong and doesn’t even realize it. James has it so bad for Haley and has from the beginning, he is so conflicted about how to balance his priorities regarding Haley and his job. The last ~10% was wild!! I could actually seeing it play out in my head as I read! I knew Haley was badass and I love seeing her get the chance to shine and prove it, even thought those around her already know it. While I love Dean, James is definitely my favorite! I had a big gap in between reading book 2 and 3, and I’m so mad at myself for it! Starting book 4 immediately!!!
I think the best thing an author can do when writing a series is maintaining the amount of angst without making it boring. Brittany does this every single time. I couldn’t even plan out what would happen next and it is so deliciously written.
Brittany causes me to fall for men that I probably shouldn’t and I adore her for that.
This series just gets better and better every time. This led to tears and fits of rage but I am so excited for Grand Slam to come. Why this series isn’t a bigger deal is beyond me.
If you want joy, tension, discovery, love, passion, anger, then this book will give you every single one of these emotions.
Cheers to an amazing book 3 and to the creation of book 4!
3.5 ⭐️ I really enjoyed the first 2 books but this one just wasn’t my favorite unfortunately. I read the first 2 so quick but this one drug on for me. The major event that happened at the end of the second book that you thought was going to get resolved in the 3rd didn’t and is getting pushed to the fourth book. There wasn’t the same major plot twist or big event that happened like the first 2. You find out one big piece of information but nothing is really done with it yet. There was a big cliff hanger left in this book again just like the first 2 but it just seems to be getting flat and drug on for me. Still not a bad book and I have enjoyed the series, this one just didn’t knock it out of the park for me.
I haven't read the first two in this series but thankfully did not feel lost at all. I will definitely go back and read them, but the author did a great job of giving enough backstory without it being an information overload. I enjoyed Haley and James' story. They obviously have a history - I liked that we got passages of their past throughout the book (I loved how that was done) - but they so belong together! I wanted to yell at them at times. Now - that ending? I need the next one! I suspected something big would happen, but I am intrigued and can't wait to see how it'll play out. A great read.
An amazing read! I wasn’t familiar with the author yet, but I really love her writing style. This story was one filled with all sorts of feelings, to say it was a wild ride would be an understatement. I really enjoyed the multiple points of view to keep the story even more engaging. This book starts where the previous one left off, so I think it’s best to read those two first, although you could definitely get away with just starting at this one. And I mean, come on, fbi, maffia, what else do you need? Brittany, we need to talk about that cliffhanger though, that was really not ok for you to do, we need that next book like yesterday! All in all, for sure a book I would recommend.
Strike Zone is book #3 in the Batter Up series. Make sure to check the trigger warning.
I can't put into words how amazing this book is!!!
If you have read Batter Up and Swing Batter, Swing, you know that Brittany takes you on an emotional, spicy, wild ride and Strike Zone is no different!!!
I am so in love with these characters, i am so invested in this story and I am counting down the days until Grand Slam!!
If you haven't started this series yet, go do it now!!!
This is definitely a series that you want to go into BLIND. I did not do any research on this series before I read it and I am soooo glad that I went in blind. If you are expecting a typical sports romance you are in for a treat! I was so shocked. I laughed, cried a lot, smiled, swooned and didn’t want this series to be over! There is twists and turns all over the place and for sure some moments that made me want to throw my kindle. Brittany did a fantastic job with this series and I am excited to read more from her with her upcoming new releases.
Once again Brittany Ann hits it out of the park. Strike Zone is the third installment in the Batter Up series and the character’s stories will resonate with you. Age-gap romance, second-chance love, and more draw you in to the mayhem that has enveloped the entire group. You’ll be ok the edge of your seat and then left there in another cliffhanger Brittany Ann loves to leave her readers on to keep coming back for more.
Okay the editing and grammar errors are getting easier to ignore. I am so in love and invested in this story that they don't even bother me anymore when reading. James is hot... him in the bedroom, yes - him out of the bedroom, annoys me a little. After Haley's kidnapping I found that I liked him more and he no longer annoyed me. Haley is sweet but feisty and I love that. Throughout this book I just wanted more Col and Kay chapters and I had to immediately start the next book.
Seriously such an amazing series and this latest addition is no different !!! If you haven't read this series I encourage you no I demand you go right now and run not walk to read this series !!! I just read it and I already want to read it again !
BrittanyAnn style of writing is amazing and really pulls the reader in.
Oh how this book shattered my heart into pieces. I knew Haley had a rough past but when James past comes to light my heart breaks. The love that he has for Haley is beautiful. By the end of this book I was panicking, my heart was racing as fast as Haley and Dean were driving. Brittany has completely sucked me in and put me in a trance with all of her characters.
I was not expecting for this book to end like this! There continues to be developments and I am so hooked by series and this one just drew me in more. I love that the book really dug into some of the other backgrounds of characters more in this book. And James is so protective and all in.
This is a really great series mixing baseball and mafia with amazing characters like BA heroines. There is angst, emotions, found family, suspense and spice. Love this world!
I read this book in 2 days and was so shocked with the twists and turns! I’m usually pretty good at guessing what’s coming and Britt has totally made my mouth drop in shock, anger, sadness, and joy. Her characters are real, with imperfections and trauma they are continually working through. I loved the book and l love that author!
As usual from Brittany, Strike Zone was an absolute page turner that I could not put down! James and Haley are absolutely amazing I love them so much!! I feel as if I know all of the characters from this series personally and I love them all so much!!
This book had the perfect amount of plot, spice, drama, swoonworthy moments, everything I love in a book I am absolutely obsessed!!!
