DK and Smithsonian have partnered together to present an an Outstanding timeline of historical periods, periods, wars, art, and more!
Their colorful illustrations, photographs, and overall graphic design is not only pleasing to the eye, but laid out in such a way that information does not seem crowded on the pages.
Historical Periods are broken down into Prehistory, The Ancient World, The Medieval World, The Age of Encounters, The Age of Revolution, and The Modern World. Within each period, are events, wars, art, etc. that took place during that period. Be sure to look at the Table of Contents for at the end is a box explaining information about Dates in this book.
For each period (chapter), there is a brief (2 pages) about what occurred during the period, and then on subsequent pages, detailed information mostly in the form of illustrations, photographs, etc. about specific people, art, eras, and things that were invented or had a significant presence during the period.
At the end of the book is a Glossary, Index, and a list of Acknowledgements.
This book is part of DK's Our World in Pictures series, so its purpose truly is a VISUAL one, and for this alone, they were extremely successful, but DK always goes the extra mile, and this book is no exception. It's visually appealing AND informative! A beautiful book!
DK and the Smithsonian teamed up to produce a visual history of the world in just under 200 pages. As usual, it is full of photographs and has 2 page spreads on each subject within the chapter. I learned a lot of history from this! It tried hard to emphasize all parts of the world and pretty much succeeded. It also tried to include marginalized groups, including a photo of Rigoberta Menchu who fought for indigenous rights. I was very pleased that the last spread mentioned the Climate Change Crisis including fighters for the movement such as Jane Goodall and young fighters as well who are fighting for their own future! Highly recommended! DK never disappoints!
Our World in Pictures: The History Book is a new book full of beautiful pictures about history. It covers the whole story of humans, from the very beginning to now. There are pictures of ancient civilizations, medieval times, revolutions, and even the modern world. Some of the modern pictures are a bit old, like there's no iphone 15 pro max, but overall the book is full of interesting details and pictures. I love DK Books! I wish I could buy all of them.
