With a permanent scowl furrowing his eyebrows and the words ‘back off’ stamped across his forehead, he’s made our small-town animal clinic unbearable. Unfortunately for me, broody only makes him hotter.
Until the night he saved my life, and my entire view on Benjamin Crawford changed. Falling for your boss usually ends in disaster, but this time, it’s not because we work together.
Making Ben mine paints a target on my back, forcing the dark shadow lurking around me to make itself known. Someone else wants me and is determined to keep me.
And no matter what we do to stop them, I think they may succeed.
This was my favorite book in this series. I thought the plot was well rounded and the romance, spice, and suspense was perfect. I loved the enemies-to-lovers, workplace romance. The twist with the stalker was amazing, I honestly didn’t see it coming.
Sara is the last single member of her friend group and is content to come home to her pets after a fulfilling day working at the local vet clinic. But her world is tipped on its axis when Ben takes over for his father. He’s broody and cold and obviously doesn’t want to be in Sonoma. But after saving Sara from her would-be kidnapper, their relationship changes.
The last thing Ben wants to do is take over his father’s small town vet clinic. But after saving Sara, the small town life doesn’t seem to be as bad as he thought. Sara is just what Ben needed to give him a glimpse at the life he could have in Sonoma. She makes him a better person and doesn’t let his grumpiness deter her.
I loved the evolution of Ben and Sara’s relationship. They started out as enemies and quickly became an epic love story. They both had awesome families that meshed well together. And Sara became quite the badass, learning to fight and take back her power.
There was a lot more suspense in this book than in the previous three. From the initial kidnapping attempt to the big climax and reveal, it was engaging and exciting. I’m sad this was the last book in this series but it seems like it is the jumping point for at least two more series’s. I can’t wait to see more of Sara’s brothers in the future.
Protecting Her Heart by Shelby Gunter is a small town enemies to lovers suspense romance and the last book of the Sonoma Series, but can be read standalone.
Sara is working as a vet technician and her new boss is Ben is a broody jerk that can’t stand small town living, that changes when Ben saves Sarah’s life and they have to figure out who is lurking in the shadows.
I find Ben’s dirty talking dominance hot. I also loved that I spent most of the book guessing who G is and I didn’t see it coming. There was great banter between all the characters. Sara is tough and independent I’m glad she didn’t settle and was able to see past Ben’s broodiness and Ben was able to see where his priorities were. This is a well balanced book with perfect amount of heat and suspense. I’m looking forward to the spin off series.
I was honored to receive an ARC and voluntarily leaving a review
Overall this book annoyed me, but the things I found most annoying. Almost made me DNF this book.
Someone tries to kidnap Sara, (after finding notes and presents left on the doorstep) she does not want anyone to know, so her and Ben do not say anything.
Sara decides to learn how to fight, and after a week of classes she’s taking down guys twice her size, because “she has natural talent”
I absolutely loved Ben and Sara's story. This is the first series that I couldn't predict the villain in the stories!!! Well done Shelby! Looking forward to your next book release!
These books were full of sass, fun, intrigue, danger and romance. I thoroughly enjoyed every single one. Each book grabs your attention from the get-go and refuses to relinquish you until the very end. Awesome!!!!
