Snowblind: The Killing Grounds

There are some places man was never meant to go.

For the past seven years, John Avery has been combing the wilderness for any sign of his missing girlfriend, who set out upon the ski trip of a lifetime and was never seen again.

Regions utterly isolated by geography and time.

The discovery of a video camera prompts Sheriff Wayne Dayton to dispatch a search party into one of the most remote areas of the Rockies in hopes of learning her fate.

Where few species can survive.

When a freak blizzard strikes, they find themselves wandering blindly into the killing grounds of a predator they can't even see.

Michael McBride was born in Colorado and still resides in the shadow of the Rocky Mountains. He hates the snow, but loves the Avalanche. He works with medical radiation, yet somehow managed to produce five children, none of whom, miraculously, have tails, third eyes, or other random mutations. He writes fiction that runs the gamut from thriller to horror to science fiction...and loves every minute of it.

This one if a follow up of the previous one but you can read without reading the other.
Small spoilers for the first one - remember how it ended? The person arrived at town having survived the ordeal just to be shot by the sheriff? Well, this is the tale of the Sheriff.

We've got a tale about a group of people trying to uncover the video they discovered about a missing group. You've got the sherrif, deputy, animal handler and the dog, the boyfriend of the people who made the video & a person who controls the animals in a refuge. They all go into the woods, when is snowing because that's pretty normal. They don't contact the state troopers or any other people. OF course things go south pretty fast and with only 150 pages it read fast. Michael Macbride knows how to write fast pace thrillers. As the first book, it starts in the end and we backtrack a couple of days. We already know what is going to happen (kind off).

I enjoyed this and I wish for more books on that setting. Because this time a Sheriff went missing. I mean there should be an investigation. How these people\monsters will take it? 87/100

I know most of Michael McBride's books follow the same formula, but the plot and ending of Killing Fields is almost identical to the first Snowblind book. Don't bother.

A great sequel to Snowblind! It has a bit of a cop-out ending, though.

Thrilling

Welp. There's no happy ending here. Not even a bittersweet one. It's dire af.

But you know what? I enjoyed the heck out of this novella. Sure I wish there had been a little light at the end of the tunnel, and that's why this isnt 5 stars for me. But it has action, it has dread, it's chilling. It could benefit from some origin backstory, but it was a fun ride nonetheless.

While tracking a lost bighorn sheep, a game warden finds a hidden video camera that may contains the story behind five missing college students. This story gripped me from the beginning and kept me entertained and riveted until the very end. A truly terrifying cat and mouse game during a blizzard in the mountains!

Brr

Like the first book, fast, crazy, intense. I didn't feel like I got to know the characters quite as well. But I can sure hear the wind and feel the cold.
I just wish it was longer.

Enjoyed this hugely, a great follow up to the original 'Snowblind'. Straight into the action with mountains, blizzards and something nasty in the forest. I really do hope this is a trilogy.. there has to be one more surely..?

Excellent

Blood in the snow? Names on a wall, with day of deaths? What is in the woods of Colorado? It has teeth and eats everything, people preferred!

This book is a total waste of time as it deals with an absolutely idiotic scenario of no interest to me at all.
