A boring life.

That’s all Talatha asked for. She’s been able to live that way for years—a wife to a talented fletcher, a mother to a newborn son.

But her Shield of blue Light can only protect her for so long.

She despises the power thrust upon her in her youth. Despite her loathing, Talatha feels forced to use her Shield to protect herself and her family from those seeking Lightbearers to bolster their forces for an underground war.

But now they’ve found her. What happens if her gift can no longer protect her or the ones she loves?

"Shielded: The Lightbearer Chronicles: A Prequel" by Dan Kenner is a captivating fantasy tale that immerses readers in a world where magic is concealed and those who possess it must tread carefully. The story follows Talatha, a woman who desires nothing more than a quiet, ordinary life as a wife and mother. However, her innate power, the Shield, forces her into a dangerous role in a land where magic is forbidden and hidden.

Kenner weaves a rich and intricate narrative, exploring the conflict between the monarchy's suppression of magic and the underground war that brews beneath the surface. Talatha's journey is one of resilience and self-discovery as she grapples with the responsibility of protecting her family and the power of Light.

The author's world-building is immersive, and the characters are well-developed, drawing readers into a world of intrigue and danger. "Shielded" is a compelling prequel that sets the stage for what promises to be an epic fantasy series.

Dan Kenner's storytelling prowess shines through in this enthralling prequel, making it a must-read for fans of fantasy fiction and those who enjoy tales of magic, courage, and the battle for freedom.

Super fun, fast read; it took me under 3 hrs with some breaks thrown in. The world and magic got more and more exciting as the story progressed. My husband and I were looking for some clean fantasy novels to add to our shelves, and this was definitely a good acquisition! This is a prequel to a trilogy and I’m totally invested at this point and looking forward to starting the next one (after my husband finishes it lol)!

Loved the world he put us in. The battles were awesome, and I love the way he put the loss of love in. Sure she didn't have to leave her husband and child but she did to make their lives better.

I am glad I got to read this book and I have already recommended this series to my friends and family.
