But her plans are put on hold when her brother goes missing off the world-famous Strip. She must use every resource she has to find him. I became interested in this book after seeing it on some FB ads. I decided to read it and give it a try. I seriously love a few things about this book; the tropes are intriguing with a sexy billionaire vampire, a human reporter, and a who done it? As well as fated mates, midlife characters, and relationships and activities I can certainly dream about. I also love that the ending isn’t a cliffhanger but does leave more to be desired; however, the author does have some minor spelling oops in the story that needs to be fixed. I can’t wait to read more in this series.
We begin with Kirion, a hotel mogul in Las Vegas. He is from an affluent family of vampires. He has strength and smarts and runs a prestigious hotel on the Las Vegas Strip. But it seems the supernatural isn’t revealed to the humans .he is the vampire King of Nevada. He takes the protection and dead bodies on his property seriously, but he has to figure out the who and the why?
Remy is a reporter; she lives with her younger brother Brice. She is proud of her brother but, of course, still worries about him. Her spidey sense seems to tingle when it comes to his boss Kirion the most eligible, aloof bachelor in Vegas, what she wouldn’t give for an interview with him. Her dream of investigative reporting hasn’t come true yet. But for now, she pays the bills with entertainment reporting.
Her brother Brices disappears and seems to trigger her need to confront Kirion at his hotel to get some answers. Ah, he seems to have an instant attraction to her but, of course, lends toward just being charming. A little friendly/flirty banter, and neither of them gets exactly what they want.
I like when things go sweet between them, and they certainly have trouble fighting the attraction. But the author has a few spelling mistakes in a heated, steamy moment. I love that the author adds the dreamy billionaire wining and dining her with a romantic interest, not just mystery stuff. Their interactions, with her being human and him being a vampire, are so swoony. I also love that they seem to be soulmates or fated mates, as is the typical popular trope. How that all plays out, we will have to see.
Oh, interesting I like how she discovers the paranormal and has a normal reaction to this kind of truth bomb. However, the plot then gets more twisted as we find out what happens to Brice and now Remy. Who was behind it and so much more? I know Kirion is going to be livid. He’s admitting his true feeling is rather magical. In the knight in dark armor kind of way.
I love the super sizzling intimacy at the end of the book and where this ends, leaving off with still some conflicts but not a cliffhanger. I also love the mature adult paranormal romance in it, not a young adult, not college but mature decision-making adults. I cant wait to read the next book in this series.
When I started this book I didn't think I was going to like it, it was a bit slow and too much like many others in this genre, it did warm up a bit and get a bit more exciting. I think I will order the next book just to give it the benefit of the doubt. A few of the characters are good and strong but there are some wishy washy ones that could perhaps meet a nasty end in the next book (fingers crossed) I know I marked it as 3 stars and I don't usually go as low as this, and when I got the the last quarter of the book my opinion went up a bit so I will now mark it 3.5. Just be aware there are some sex scenes in this book which are well detailed with very descriptive words so may not be suitable for younger readers
I thought this was a good beginning to a series. I thought Remy was a great FMC and I also enjoyed the parts with Kirion...
That being said, there were a couple things I just couldn't get over. I found a couple instances of missing words or it would switch from 3rd person POV to 1st person... That's a little jarring and clearly an editing oversight (not that I'm an expert on editing, because I surely am not).
I also felt like it was very rushed in the second half of the book. I feel like we spend a lot of time looking for Brice, and it started to get repetitive.
I enjoyed the book overall though, and I give it a solid 3/5. I may even check out the next book, because I'm interested to see what comes of the war.
I had the pleasure of meeting Stacey at Apollycon this year and when she told me this was a vampire romance I immediately had to buy it. This book was short but the storyline and magic system seemed to be pretty sussed out. It was a unique take on vampires and wasn't a bad read overall.
Remy has been trying to become an investigative reported in Las Vegas for years but has been stuck in the entertainment section by her boss. So when her brother goes missing and the only lead is his enigmatic boss, she figures she can kill two birds with one stone. Track down her brother and investigate his boss and his family. But Kirion Petrov has other plans for her. He's convinced Remy is his mate and will do everything he can to make her his, while preventing her from becoming a target. But with dead bodies showing up and a fight with the local werewolves imminent, it's up to Kirion to figure out the problem before it's too late.
The book had some issues sure. I especially did not like that an antagonist in this book happened to be the Native Americans that lived on the nearby reservation. That was a major turnoff for me. But the rest of the book was pretty good. If you like borderline instalove and a good mafia romance (with vampires) then this is the book for you!
Yes I haven't read a vampire book in a while, glad I started with this one, it had everything romance, sex, drama, just to name a few, the author gave us another perspective on vampires, these were a little different to the ones I have read about in the past, well worth reading, I understand there are 2 books in this series, wonder if there will be more.
I have to agree with other reviews, this book felt rushed. When I realized that the second book wasn’t out...at about 70%, I skimmed through to the end. I liked the instant attraction of the main characters and the storyline. Told from both POV. Since it was released in 2022 and nothing is available, I was bummed because I love a good vampire story. I might reread it if the author releases a new book.
Vampire King: Spicy Billionaire Paranormal Romance (Vegas After Dark Book 1)
I really enjoyed this book a lot and can’t wait to read the next one! There was plenty of action and intrigue to keep you turning the pages for more of their story. I was very happy with the way the story ended too. This author has a very good imagination!
Stacey O'Neal delivered in this spicy Vampire story! Russian Vampire King, Kirion Petrov is just as powerful and sexy as his name! He's the king, so of course he will have what he wants. Remy isn't just any girl who is ready to jump at his every command. She has her own life and she does what she wants! Great spice, great story and I can't wait for book 2!!!
Okay, when is the sequel coming out? There has to be a baby or three, maybe four. And of course they have to find out who's trying to kill off the King of Nevada and his Clan.
When Remy's brother Brice goes missing she goes to the the casino hotel that he works at. He works for the most powerful man in the city and she is going to get to the bottom of it.
But Kirion isn't a man, he's a vampire. And as she searches for her brother, Remy is unwittingly stepping foot into a paranormal world she never knew existed.
I picked this one up because it's been a hot minute since I read a good vampire romance and I was in the mood. This one has been on my TBR list for over a year, so I thought now was a good time to try it out.
Unfortunately it's just a very boring story. There isn't a whole lot of worldbuilding (although, there is some). But it doesn't have that otherworldly underground atmosphere that good PNR's have. It just felt like a contemporary romance with fangs thrown in as a side note.
The FMC, Remy, isn't the most annoying heroine I've read, but she is kind of annoying. She's very nosy and has a know-it-all kind of vibe. I wasn't a big fan of her, although I wouldn't say I hated her either.
The MMC, Kirion, is rather underwhelming for being the "King" of the Vegas vampire clan. He just didn't have a very commanding presence and was pretty meh.
I didn't feel the chemistry between them either. They go from being fairly innocently friendly to having sex with no sexual tension or buildup. It just made it all feel really surface level and boring.
The story was okay I guess, but not particularly gripping until the end of the book when they finally find Brice. Until then she is just going to the spa and waiting around the hotel for other people to search for him.
In the end she appears to opt to stay human? This is an odd choice. But also we don't really know if vampires have longer lifespans in this world or not since not much world building was done. I still didn't like this outcome.
Overall it was just a very mediocre book. The writing style wasn't bad. But the dialog was kind of cheesy. The characters were flat with no chemistry. And the story wasn't strong enough to stand on its own. I don't plan to read more from this series (if she ever writes more).
