Wyoming Mountain Hostage by Juno Rushdan
Cowboy State Lawman series #3. Harlequin Intrigue. Romantic suspense. Can be read as a stand-alone.
Becca and Jake are coworkers with the FBI. They’ve also had an intimate relationship when time allowed. Jake is in her hometown of Laramie, Wyoming when a hostage situation develops and Jake finds himself outside as the negotiator while Becca and a half dozen teens are held at gunpoint inside the local library. Jake must handle the situation carefully and not get too distracted having just found out that Becca is pregnant. What is it the gunmen want and can Jake get everyone out safely?

Jake is experienced but this time the stakes include his unborn child. Becca is strong and dedicated. She does everything she can to undermine the gunman.

Suspenseful with a twist or two that ramp up the story past the initial stage. Exciting.

If I had to pick a place to be held hostage, a library would be one of my top choices. I often bemoan that a lot of my favorite authors are no longer writing. Then I remember that I have found authors like Juno Rushdan and I am no longer so sad. Rushdan has never failed to deliver a wonderful mystery/suspense. From the first page this book takes off and doesn't slow down. Just when you think the situation is resolved, think again.

Pulling up to the Laramie Library to pick up FBI Agent Becca Hammond's nephew is the last normal thing she does for two days. In the car with her is her FBI lover, Jake Delgado, and she has just dropped the baby bomb on him when gunfire opens up. Becca runs into the library to find her nephew and try to clear everyone out. When Becca becomes a hostage, she has to trust and rely on Jake to do his job as one of the top FBI negotiators.

Jake Delgado has been blindsided by Becca's announcement that she is pregnant with his child only to have her end up a hostage in a hostile situation. That's a lot for a guy who thought it was all fun and games to absorb. Now he had to get over his shock and do his job and that means finding out why this group of men has taken hostages and what they want. Above all he needs to get Becca and the other hostages out alive.

With a fast-pace and action that never quits, this book is a must read for anyone who enjoys romantic suspense with a lot of suspense in the mix. Becca Hammond is an FBI agent with a strong work ethic and a determination to be the best agent she can be, regardless of the threat to her and her unborn baby. Jake Delgado is a hostage negotiator and Becca’s lover, but he is too stubborn to admit that he really cares for her. When the people in the town’s library are taken hostage, both of the FBI agents are in the center of the action, with Becca being one of the hostages. The story has a lot of depth to it as it delves into the psyches of the hostage takers as well as the agents. It is well-crafted and intriguing with some high-octane thrills happening throughout the story. The characters are likable and relatable. I even liked some of the hostage takers because they seemed so vulnerable and dedicated to their cause. This is a satisfying page turner, with edgy action and a tight plot. With nail-biting suspense and a developing romance, this is the perfect book for fans of engrossing thrills and a twisty mystery.

Becca and Jake were happy with no commitments. That is until Becca tells him she’s pregnant. Once that bomb shell has been set, Becca rushes into a library where her nephew is. Gunmen enter and take everyone hostage.
Now Jake must figure out how to negotiate with the bad guys and hope Becca gets out alive.
This one was nonstop action from the very beginning. I was on the edge of my seat the entire book.
Best book of the series so far, but of course I say this after reading any of Juno’s books, lol.

Terrific book that kept me hooked from beginning to end. It was fast-paced, with a believable scenario and sympathetic characters. Though the action took place over 24 to 36 hours, it did not feel rushed. In addition to the main characters, Jake and Becca, previous characters Nash and Lynn (Wyoming Winter Rescue) also play significant roles in this book.

Jake and Becca are FBI agents who have a friends-with-benefits relationship. They've known each other since they attended the FBI Academy, where a simmering attraction underscored an intense rivalry. After meeting again recently, they began a no-strings, no-commitment relationship, indulging their passion without risking their hearts. But that is about to change.

As the book opens, Becca breaks the news that she's pregnant with his baby. She wants to know where he sees their relationship going. Stunned by the news, Jake isn't sure how to react. He tells her he likes things the way they are, sticks his foot in his mouth about the baby, and is distracted by a drive-by shooting. They are at the local library waiting to pick up Becca's nephew. As gunmen approach the library, Becca rushes in to attempt to get her nephew and his friends out but gets taken hostage along with the others.

Jake, an FBI hostage negotiator, steps up to help local officials deal with the situation. He's still reeling from Becca's news but has to bury those feelings to do his job. However, knowing she is in danger makes him realize how much he cares for her. He's avoided commitment because of a disastrous past relationship, but his feelings for Becca are strong enough to overcome those fears. He just has to keep her alive long enough to tell her.

I loved the depth of detail in the book, from the actions taken by the characters to their thoughts and motivations. Jake's patience and determination are stellar, and I loved seeing him work his magic with the head hostage taker. He has to deal with outside influences, and I enjoyed seeing him shut them down. Jake's fear for Becca is palpable as the negotiations go on. Meanwhile, Becca, who has not disclosed that she is an FBI agent, is determined to do whatever she can to help Jake and the others succeed. She took several risks that could get her killed and drew the attention of the least stable of the gunmen, and I held my breath at several close calls. The final confrontation at the library was a nail-biter.

Then an unexpected discovery reveals that the threat isn't over. The time to prevent a disaster is short, and the agents are left scrambling to get the information they need. I loved that Becca knew where to find the weakest link, thanks to her time as a hostage. Her methods of getting the required information were precisely what was needed. The intensity was incredible as she, Jake, and other agents raced to the scene. Of course, Becca was the one who found what they were looking for and had the training to handle it.

I loved the ending. I liked seeing how the events they experienced affected Jake. Initially, though he knew Becca was excellent at her job, he constantly questioned her judgment and actions. This frustrated her, and I sometimes wondered why she stayed with him. I liked how she called him out on it. I liked how he finally gave her the respect she deserved, though he still had a little work to do. His confession of his feelings was emotional, awkward, and sweet. I hope to see more of them in later books.

Whenever I pick up a Juno Rushdan book, I know I’m in for a suspenseful ride. And while I was initially a bit doubtful – how would a romance work when the MCs are apart for a good chunk of the book? – well, I should know by now not to doubt Ms. Rushdan! This is a deeply satisfying romantic suspense, with high stakes, twists and a no-strings-attached romance that’s tested by several explosive revelations.

“Just remember that any blood spilled is his fault. Not ours.”
“Justice for one,” she said, “justice for all.”

Despite being at loggerheads for years, there’s always been an attraction between FBI agents Becca and Jake. For the past few months that’s turned into a passionate affair whenever the two of them are in the same town. But things are changing, so when Becca’s attempts to turn their no-strings-attached fling into a relationship aren’t received well she storms off into the town library to retrieve her nephew from his high school bookclub. Jake is stunned and blindsided that Becca wants to suddenly change the terms of their agreement – and even more stunned when a van full of armed men suddenly storm the library, taking everyone inside hostage, including Becca. With his lover’s life on the line, this may be the most important hostage negotiation of Jake’s life.

Jake is confident and honest, two traits that you’d definitely want in a hostage negotiator. He also excels at compartmentalizing his emotions, something that’s great for his work but not so great for his personal life as his ex would attest to. He also has a seriously annoying tendency to question Becca’s decisions, to treat her like she’s acting without thinking. Truthfully, Becca is the kind of agent who acts on her hunches and takes risks, but not unnecessary ones. Jake does admire her stubbornness, but in a hostage situation where it means she’s likely to try to outwit her kidnapppers? Not so much. But despite everything else, Becca knows her own mind and where she stands. If Jake won’t step up to his new role, well, he’s not necessary for her new life.

This is basically everything I’m looking for in a romantic suspense: two main characters who are highly competent at their jobs, high stakes and enough twists to keep you on the edge of your seat. While I usually prefer to only have the MC’s POVs, the author skillfully interweaves the hostage takers’ in as well, adding in emotional depth on all sides (and plenty of little hints to ratchet up the tension).

Overall, another excellent entry into the series, and I’m looking forward to getting Charlie’s book next! Highly recommended to anyone who loves romantic suspense!

I received an advance review copy of this book from Purchased. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.

FBI agent Becca Hammond was sitting in the library parking lot waiting for her nephew when she saw masked gunmen enter the library. She snuck in to get everyone out and ended up becoming a hostage herself. Becca had literally just dropped a bomb on fellow agent and lover Jake Delgado by informing him she was pregnant. When Becca became a hostage, she had to trust and rely on Jake to do his job as one of the top FBI negotiators.

Jake Delgado had been blindsided by Becca's announcement that she was pregnant with his child. That's a lot for a guy who thought their relationship was just fun hookups. Now he had to get over his shock and do his job and that meant finding out why this group of men have taken over the library with hostages and what they want. Above all, he needs to get Becca and the other hostages out alive.

Romantic suspense is my favourite genre and this book was fantastic with a lot of suspense in the mix. I liked Becca with her strong work ethic and determination to be the best agent she could be, regardless of the threat to her. Her unborn baby made her extra careful but still determined to end the hostage situation.

The story centers around the hostage-taking with both the FBI agents in the center of the action. The story has a lot of depth to it as it delves into the psyches of the hostage takers as well as the agents. It is well-crafted and intriguing with some thrilling scenes throughout the story. The characters are likable and relatable, even the hostage-takers. As you learn more about their crisis, you will understand.

This was an excellent mystery which built up to an explosive conclusion that left me shaking my head. It takes a while to figure out what the hostage situation was all about, but the wait made it more thrilling. When I learned more about the hostage takers and why they were doing this, I was more involved in this mystery and even hoped they would get what they wanted. Granted, the way they went about getting it was not great. But they were desperate.

I recommend this book if you enjoy a great suspense-filled story with a little romance sprinkled in. The secrets that are revealed will shock you and make you root for the bad guys as well as the good guys.

This book was what I would classify as a slow burn mystery. I do not mean that in a derogatory fashion. The mystery was a slow build up to a pressure cooker situation. You did not have constant action, but the the mind tricks were fabulous. With this mystery, you really did not know where it was going until close to the end. Hostage takers take over a local library with several hostages. They bar the doors and start making strange demands that make no sense to the negotiators or you as the reader when you first read them.

Becca Hammond is an FBI agent sitting in the parking lot waiting on her nephew when she sees masked gunmen entering the library. She sneaks in and ends up being a hostage. Becca has literally just dropped a bomb on fellow agent Jake Delgado by informing him she is pregnant. Jake is a highly trained negotiator, but this negotiation is personal to him.

This was an excellent mystery which built up to an explosive conclusion that left me shaking my head. Juno Rushdan had me from page 1 as I tried to figure out exactly what this hostage situation was all about. The mystery deepened as you learn more about the hostage takers and their personalities. Becca is a warrior/hero when it comes to helping those in need. I loved her character. She was fearless and highly intelligent. She was headstrong and brave with a capital B. The characters and their personalities leapt off of the page, even the hostage takers. As you learn more about their crisis, you will understand.

I highly recommend this book if you enjoy a great suspense-filled book with a little romance sprinkled in. The secrets that are revealed will shock you and make you root for the bad guys as well as the good guys. Forget about sleep once you start reading it because you will not close the book or your Kindle until you are finished. Juno Rushdan had me hook, line and sinker!

Thank you to the author for this ARC. I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Becca is a fierce and independent FBI agent who is also extremely determined and always gets the job done. When she is involved in the wrong side of a hostage situation, she uses every tool in her arsenal to protect not only herself, but her unborn baby. Luckily for her, she also has an invaluable resource who will also do anything to ensure Becca and her unborn child. Especially since it's also Jake's baby. They've both acted satisfied with their non-commitment, no-strings-attached arrangement up until this point. But now that all bets are off, they may just have to admit to themselves and each other what they really feel.

Juno Rushdan has done it again! This was a fast-paced, action-filled thriller! It's a good thing I already had a feeling that I would need to clear some time to read this one, because once I started it I couldn't put it down. I ended up finishing it in one sitting because of the desire to know what was going to happen next. Even if I told myself I was just going to finish the chapter, soon enough I was starting the next one. It was literally too good to put down. So I recommend that you prepare yourself for that before you get started! Get comfortable and settle in with this one.

Not only were the two main characters incredible and easy to fall for, but Juno Rushdan also had me feeling bad for the hostage takers. Only she can make me feel compassion and empathy for the bad guys. I strongly recommend this book. It was an incredible ride that kept me on the edge of my seat with bouts of swooning thrown in for good measure! I recieved an ARC copy of this book from Juno Rushdan in exchange for my honest thoughts and opinions in a review.

I liked this book and i loved to see some characters from precedent books in the series and while it can be read as stand alone i feel it's better read in order.

Becca is an agent and an excellent one. However her life is a bit more complicated...while having a relationship with Jake , top negociator, supposed to be without links or complication, she gets pregnant. Already loving her unborn child she wants to see where her relationship is going and tell Jake just minute before becoming hostage.

Jake thought he had it all, good but demanding job, friend with benefice . Simple and easy until it's not. Suddenly Becca wants him to be serious, a real relationship , not expecting that he does not react that well even less when baby news gets in the way.

But no matter how emotionally stressed, Jake will do his best save Becca, the children and all the other hostages. When kidnappers are desesperate and determined risks level go up, adding peripheral element makes it even more difficult but both Becca from her end and Jake from his will do their best as they do trust each other which is important when so much hang in the balance.

I really loved the investigation, i even liked Frank but i'm angry some did not get what they deserve for their treachery.

good romance suspense with HEA. 4,5/5

Wyoming Mountain Hostage (Cowboy State Lawmen #3) by Juno Rushdan is non-stop action and suspense from beginning to end. The story centers around a hostage situation lasting long hours while FBI agent Becca Hammond is held and FBI hostage negotiator Jake Delgado works to get the conflict resolved. They have a history that becomes extremely complicated right before the hostage takeover, making this an intense emotional read.

Other than flashbacks and memories the story stays focused on the hostage situation. It is all about the story happening right then which is great. The main characters from the first book in the series play a role in this story too. Lynn is Jake’s sister and FBI agent Nash Garner is her fiancé. Ms. Rushdan manages to make me somewhat sympathize with the hostage takers which is a rare feat. Now they actions are totally wrong, but the true villain is revealed piece by piece in the story. Again, it kept me reading until the very end.

Wyoming Mountain Hostage is my favorite yet in the series. Each story is a stand-alone, now I can’t wait for the next in the series, Wyoming Mountain Murder.

The publisher/author gave me a complimentary ARC of the book which I voluntarily chose to read and review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

As a self-proclaimed romantic suspense junkie, I’m officially a hard-core Juno Rushdan fan at this point. I simply haven’t found a book of hers that I didn’t devour in only a few hours. This book is the third in her newest series, but you can read it as a complete standalone. I’m already hooked on the series and can’t wait for all the books to release.

Wyoming Mountain Hostage reads like a television show because of the short timeline (definite FBI/CSI/Criminal Minds vibes), yet it doesn’t feel rushed. With lots of action, suspense, twists, and turns, the story sucked me in immediately, and it didn’t let go until the last page. It’s full of fast-paced action from the outset, and the characters are relatable…even a few of the hostage-takers. She developed those in such a way I could sympathize with their cause despite knowing their actions were wrong. As a plus, I was left questioning who the mastermind behind the hostage situation was until the story arc. This book is just one more reason I reach for Juno Rushdan’s books when looking for well-written romantic suspense. She’s thoroughly cemented herself as a great romantic suspense author and ranks among the top of my automatic 1-click authors’ list.

FBI hostage negotiator Jake Delgado is in Laramie for a weekend hookup with his former classmate FBI agent Becca Hammond. While they wait to pick up Becca's nephew from the library, Becca tells Jake that she is pregnant. Before Jake can get his mind around the news, gunmen appear and Becca races into the library to get her nephew. She inadvertently becomes a hostage. As Jake works to negotiate the release of the hostages, he is realizing how much he cares for Becca. I received a free copy of this ebook from the author. This is my honest and voluntarily given review. This is a very suspenseful action-packed story. Since Jake is used to compartmentalize his feeling in tough situation, he is clueless at first to his real feelings for Becca. I love how strong, independent, and resourceful Becca is. She never stops trying to get information out to Jake and she works hard to keep the other hostages safe. I admire Jake for keeping calm during the situation, especially with Becca in harm's way. This is my favorite book in the series so far.

The action continues in the third book of the Cowboy State Lawmen series. Becca is a tough FBI agent who drops a bombshell on Jake, a fellow FBI agent and hostage negotiator, she's pregnant. His response left a lot to be desired, so Becca goes to get her nephew at the Laramie Library, unfortunately her timing could not be worse. Armed men barricade themselves in the library, taking Becca, her nephew, and several other people hostage. The tension is high, trying to figure out what these men want and what they are willing to do to get it. This was twisty and suspenseful. Just when I think I had figured out was going on there was a twist that came out of the blue.
This can be read as a standalone, though there are appearances from people in the previous two books. Suspenseful page-turner for sure.

This is the 3rd book in the “Cowboy State Lawmen Series”. This is an entertaining, fast-paced, easy quick read, drama, action packed, mystery, mayhem, suspenseful, romance, great characters and an awesome plot that held me captive. Becca and Jake are both FBI agents and the two have developed a friends with benefits relationship and Becca is now pregnant. Becca is at the library when a gunman arrives and takes everyone hostage including her nephew.

Will Jake be able to rescue a pregnant Becca, her and the hostages, why is the gunman holding everyone hostage, now that Becca is pregnant will the relationship that she has with Jake go from friend with benefits to putting a ring on Becca’s finger and becoming a family to raise their unborn child together.

We saw hints of Agent Becca Hammond and Agent Jack Delgado in the first and second Cowboy State Lawmen books. Jake is Lynn’s brother from book one. We also get to see Nash, Lynn’s fiancé and Jakes soon to be brother in law step in to help out Jake. Nash and Becca are on the same team. After dropping a bomb shell that’s she’s pregnant, she runs into the library to find her nephew and is taken hostage. The stakes are super high, this kept me guessing at every turn. Just when I thought I knew what was going to happen it took me by a pleasant surprise! If you’ve read books one and two your will surely enjoy this. I do think that he caught a glimpse of the what’s is store for book 4 but you’ll have to read it to find out!

ARC review. Wyoming Mountain Hostage by Juno Rushdan is the third book in her Cowboy State Lawmen series. At the beginning of the book Becca has found out that she is pregnant with Jake’s baby and is pondering how to tell him since they have a friends with benefits relationship. That is the last quiet moment as the hostage situation unfolds. The rest of the book is a whirlwind of actions, emotions, suspense and undercurrents of love as Jake works the hostage situation with the newly expecting Becca as one of the hostages. Of course Becca adds to the suspense as she is unable to just sit back and be a hostage. I love the details and twists that Juno incorporates into her stories and this is the best yet. It’s definitely a book you won’t be able to put down until the last page.

Well, Becca and Jake, who knew?

What started out as fun, develops into something more. But what that more could be is tested by an unexpected hostage situation.

The action starts immediately. You’re left saying What. Just. Happened? in the first few pages. That’s the way to start a book!

This was a unique way to tell a love story. The characters aren’t really “together” during the majority of the book, but through their few interactions, flashbacks, and memories, you get to know how they came to be. Then together we’re all on the ride of what they might become.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an ARC of this book.

While Jake and Becca are having different opinions about Becca being pregnant, the unexpected drive-by shooting just cut their heated conversation short.

Then, several patrons and staff, including Becca, are trapped in the library with some gunmen. Being held hostages!!

The prolific masterly Juno Rushdan’s WYOMING MOUNTAIN HOSTAGE instantly draws me into the tensed and perilous hostage situation, then I was hooked on the unexpected twists and suspense page after page, holding my breath, heart-pounding until the last page.

WYOMING MOUNTAIN HOSTAGE is a perfect choice for readers who enjoy suspense thrillers with a sprinkling of romance.

They were both agents, picking up her nephew from school was not on his agenda. A long weekend with her was, she is saying she wants more now.
Nor the two men with guns that entered the library, holding a hostage.
He was a negotiator, now more than ever he realized what was at stake.
A heartwarming story of two committed to their jobs. Dealing with long
distance, and what they knew from their past.
Could they be as committed in a permanent relationship.
Readers will enjoy this heartwarming story of love growing for these two.

This is the third book in the Cowboy State Lawmen series and it can be read as a standalone. Becca Hammond is a very determined FBI agent who wants to excel at her job. Jake Delgado is a hostage negotiator who is great at his job. They have a no-strings attached arrangement with each other until Becca becomes pregnant and then becomes a hostage. Jake has to put his conflicted feelings aside and try to save all the hostages including Becca and his unborn baby. I absolutely loved this book and the characters! This book has suspense, romance, action, and wonderful characters.

Juno Rushdan did it again. Another home run. Follow FBI Agent Becca Hammond and top negotiator Jake Delgado through a hostage situation where she is one of the hostages that he has to rescue. This crisis will either help their relationship or break it up as he has just learned there is a baby on the way. You will not want to put this book down. Love the way characters from earlier books in the series are brought back in this installment.
