Dr. Rita Woods thought she was going back in time to save the children. She didn’t count on falling in love.
Rita Woods—retired physician, widow, with a granddaughter about to be married—misses her patients. She’s tired of knitting. She wants to do something that makes a difference again. When Max Ballard and his time-traveling conservatory pop in to her life, the voice of Dr. Josiah Jones’ diary calls. The voice who’d inspired her vocation. The last line of the diary haunts her quiet moments:
“…the children succumbed in the night…”
In 1769 Dr. Josiah Jones has a good life. His practice is thriving and, except for the the guilt he carries over the death of his wife, life couldn’t be any better. His biggest worry is the zealous match-making activities of his best friend…that is until a hurricane throws an unexpected guest on his doorstep.
Can Josiah trust a woman from the twenty-first century to save the only grandchildren he’ll ever have?
Is it possible for two people living 250 years apart to have a second chance at love?
The Yorktown Christmas Time Travel Novells are a light-hearted romp into the eighteenth century.
Rita is book three in the Yorktown Christmas Time Travel Novella series. I have read book two, Garrett, but have not read book one, Max. Books two and three definitely feel like you are jumping into an ongoing time travel story as they begin right as the Max story is finishing up. Yet, if you persevere and read on a bit, the author does a good job of catching the reader up and filling in missing information from that first book.
I enjoyed this trek back in time. Rita and Josiah were so right for each other. I loved the way things played out for them as they got to know each other. It was fun to see Rita connecting with the actual people in the past that she had read about in Josiah’s diary for so many years.
Things developed quickly, of course, because it is a novella. However, there was plenty of time for me to feel a connection to these two main characters and to hope they could find a happily ever after together.
I received a complimentary copy of this book. All opinions are my own.
I enjoyed reading this time travel novella set at Christmas time. Since this is the third on in the series I think I might go back and read the other two. The story does stand on its own but you are introduced to characters from the previous stories and it would be nice to get to know their stories. I liked how Rita was an older character and how her desire to go back in time was to help save some people that were sick. I liked the romance between Josiah and Rita and how they had to figure out if there was a way to be together. I liked how this story progressed and I thought that it was a fun idea.
I received a complimentary book from publishers, publicists, and or authors. A review was not required and all opinions and ideas expressed are my own.
I was delighted to read another installment of Izzy James’ Time Travel novellas—A Yorktown Christmas. Rita is a brave, compassionate woman—a doctor—yearning to do her part in saving lives. The only problem is the ones she wants to help are in 1769 Yorktown.
What a journey—a believable one—through time. Where will love and compassion take you? If not through time, what compassionate task can you do, setting aside your own comfort and wishes? Bravo, Izzy James!
(FYI: I’ve ordered Max to complete this Yorktown journey for me.)
Having read the first two books in the Yorktown Christmas Time Travel series, I looked forward to reading the next installment, Rita: A Yorktown Christmas Time Travel Novella. It lived up to my expectations. Combining the present with the 1700s creates an interesting mix. With two doctors, one in the past and one from the present who has a wealthy of medical knowledge this story captured my interest.
Dr. Rita Woods, retired doctor, mother, and grandmother, travels back in time as a result of Dr. Josiah Jones’ diary that helped inspire her to become a doctor. All she wants to do is save lives in the past. But he finds her story hard to believe. As he comes around to the truth, the two find themselves finding a second chance at love. I loved how the author weaved this story together.
I will caution you, this series and this book will be best enjoyed by reading the books in order. If not, you may find yourself missing parts of the story. So I strongly recommend reading the books in order. If you love books filled with history, time travel, Christmas, or involving medicine, check out this book for yourself.
I received a complimentary copy of this book, but this in no way influenced my review. All opinions are my own.
I have read many dual-time period stories, but only a handful that include a main character exploring the past through time travel. This kind of science-fiction usually doesn’t capture me, but Rita: A Yorktown Christmas Time Travel Novella did.
Retired doctor, Rita, is interesting and her caring heart is evident. I admire her desire to help children of the past with her present knowledge. And a doctor from the 1700s, Josiah, is just as intriguing and gave me a look into history. But the romance aspect is what had me most invested.
Although I haven’t read the other book in the series, this works well on its own. This is a quick read, easily finished in one sitting, and is a unique second chance story.
First Line: Rita Jones pulled the small box from the top corner of her bedroom closet and sat on the bed. Genre: Time Travel Fiction, Christmas Romance, Novella Page Count: 124
Disclosure: #CoverLoverBookReview received a complimentary copy of this book.
This book was a short read. It is based on a doctor,(who read the diary of another dr.) and wanted to travel back into time to use modern medicine to help save children. This is the 3rd book in the series. The characters are believable and each book leaves you wanting more.
My favorite quote in the book is “How was it possible that babies in 1769 smelled as good as babies in 2019?” I love babies and they do smell wonderful.
I received a complimentary copy from the author and Celebrate Lit and these opinions are my own.
I love the imagination of this author so much. We get to travel back in time and witness medical history being made that changes lives. Rita is a great physician and has always admired a diary that inspired her to become a doctor. Dr. Josiah Jones is well known as a great doctor in 1769. Rita wants to help these children that Josiah could not save, so she decides to time travel back to help him.
I think at first Josiah wasn’t sure about this story of time travel, but he slowly warmed up to Rita. She wants to help him and knows that she can save the children if given a chance. Being back in 1769 was fascinating and I appreciated the history that the author shared. It was fun to watch the attraction between Rita and Josiah. The big question lingers between them though. Will Rita stay in 1769 to be with Josiah, or go back to her life in the future?
This is a quick read and just perfect for an afternoon to sit, grab a hot cocoa or tea and get swept away to a great adventure. The author has done a great job of giving us a story that entertains, gives hope and adds a little romance to complete the book.
I received a copy of this book from Celebrate Lit. The review is my own opinion.
This novella takes readers into American history, both looking back from the present and finding oneself actually immersed in the eighteenth century. Rita Woods, a retired doctor, treasures a diary from Dr. Josiah Jones in 1769, which prompted her to study medicine. Infatuated with him and his story, she longs to help him save the children who died under his care. This story stands alone and offers glimpses from the previous story, which this follows, so Rita knows time travel is possible and she determines to visit Dr. Jones. This begins a grand adventure and leaves her torn about whether to stay in 1769 or return to her modern life. The characters seemed realistic and engaging and the plot intriguing. The tension held up and kept readers wondering how the story would conclude. The book could be fun for a book club discussion and makes a quick afternoon read. I received a copy from Celebrate Lit. All opinions are my own.
Rita is an exciting time travel read covering two time periods, 1769 and 2017. Rita, a doctor, in possession of Josiah Jones diary in which the demise of a family is recorded disturbs her. With a portal opening, she decided to take the leap into the past to try to save them.
This book was an entertaining read seeped in adventure, love, mystery and lots of surprises. I loved the authors writing style and the time-slip was seamless and easy to follow. The characters were rich in faith and family relationships, but also endured great hardships and struggles within both time periods.
The ending wrapped everything up nicely. I look forward to reading more from the author. Highly recommended. I received a complimentary copy from the author and willing choose to review it.
I just recommend that you read this series! Izzy James gives her reader's a riveting story filled with entertaining characters, interesting storylines, sweet romance and Christian values. Start with Max and everything will flow. You will not regret reading these stories!
Rita by Izzy James is Book 3 in the Yorktown Christmas Time Travel series. I had the honor of reading Book 2 in this series and this book seems to flow well with that book, but it also seems to read well as a Stand Alone book.
The book caught my attention from the very first chapter. I finished this book in 3hrs. The setting is 1769 and it is a Time Travel book. Rita Woods is in current times. She is a retired Physician and has been getting bored at home and misses her patients. She is given a chance to travel back to 1769 to help save the grandchildren of Dr. Josiah Jones. Dr. Josiah Jones is the inspiration for her becoming a Physician. Rita takes the chance and goes back to 1769 and to say Dr. Jones is surprised is an understatement. Dr. Jones is unsure if Rita can save the only grandchildren he would ever have. He also begins to have feelings for Rita. Will Rita save the grandchildren? Will there be a Second Chance Romance for Dr. Jones and Rita Woods?
WOW, this book caught my attention from the very first page and I finished it in 2hrs . It is a short and easy-to-read Novella. I really loved reading how Rita was bored in retirement and how she found something worthwhile to do. The relationship between Dr. Josiah and Rita was amazing and they seemed like a great couple! I am LOVING this series and look forward to the next book in this series! I recommend this book to anyone who enjoys Historical Fiction, especially Time Travel! Good BOOK!
Rita is a novella written by the talented Izzy James and part of the Yorktown Christmas Time-Travel series. Even though it is part of a series, it can be read as a stand alone. I really enjoyed this quick story and getting to know Rita and Josiah. It was a sweet tale of love, history and having second chances. It was fun going back in time to pre Revolutionary War era Yorktown. At about one hundred and twenty pages, it was easy to read in one sitting.
I am giving Rita four and a half stars. Readers who enjoy reading clean historical fiction, as well as, time travel stories. I look forward to reading more by Izzy James in the future.
I received a paperback copy of Rita from the publisher, but was not required to write a positive review. This review is one hundred percent my own honest opinion.
Rita has watched her granddaughter fall in love with a time traveler and now wonders if she can go back in time herself and help save a certain Dr. Josiah Jones and his family from a terrible sickness that history says they died from. Being a doctor herself, she hopes the miracle of time travel will also work for her. With hope in her heart and a little bit of faith, Rita travels back in time, not sure how, but there she is. Now will the doctor himself believe her.
As she works to earn Josiah's trust, they become friends and professional partners of a sort. Josiah is very open and trusting of Rita, in fact they are both falling in love with one another. However, while Rita is in the past, she is ever aware that on Christmas she will be going back home to her life and granddaughter. Can she and Josiah accept that, or will one make the ultimate sacrifice? And does Rita going back in time save Josiah's family?
This was a heartfelt Christmas time travel novella that gave Rita, a grandmother and a retired doctor, a new chance at love and an adventure she never dreamed possible. Josiah also never thought he would love again after his wife's death, but then something unbelievable happens. This was a fun novella that suspends belief and inspires.
I received a copy of this novel from the author. I was not required to post a positive review and all views and opinions are my own.
This is such a fun series! I have enjoyed reading it. History is such a wonderful thing to read about. I love reading historical fiction books and this one takes you back in time. I’ve enjoyed the whole series. They read quickly and keep you entertained plus give you a bit of history as well.
If you’ve not read the other novellas in the series you should read them! While you can read this one as a stand-alone you can also read it in the order it’s written. I feel that reading them as a series is the best way to go as you get all of the back story for Rita and who she is in the story.
Because of my medical background I really loved how Rita goes back with no thought of hiding that she’s from the future with the sole thing being she wants to save children’s lives. Wonderful read!
I have voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book which I received from Celebrate Lit. All views expressed are only my honest opinion. I was not required to write a positive review nor was I compensated in any other way. All opinions expressed are my own. I am disclosing this in accordance with the FTC regulations.
enjoyed this time travel novella. It is part of a series but stands alone just fine. I liked Rita and her heart for others.
I really enjoyed the time traveling aspect of the story and how Rita wanted to help the people ‘back then’. The relationships and interactions were great and I truly enjoyed the story.
4/5
Thank you to the author/publisher for the review copy of this book via Celebrate Lit. I received this book in exchange for an honest review and the IP opinions stated are 100% mine.
What I think you should know Rita by Izzy James in a Yorktown Time travel novella. Set in 1769 it is the third book in the series. While this could be read as a standalone I highly recommend that you read the prior books in the series prior to starting this one. This story features Doctor Rita Woods who is Olivia from the first book’s Grandmother.
What I think about this book : I read the first two books in the series and was excited to have the opportunity to read the third. Dr. Woods had been given a journal as a young girl, the Journal was from Doctor Josiah Jones who lived and practiced medicine in 1769. This journal influenced her whole life so when she saw an opportunity to help she jumped at it. It was very interesting to see the past from the perspective of Dr. Woods who has more modern knowledge. I really enjoyed this unique perspective. I loved some of the names and language (Sparking). This was a very sweet story that made me more thankful than ever for modern medicine.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from Celebrate Lit, this in no way influenced my review. All opinions are my own.
Rita: A Yorktown Christmas Time Travel Novella is written by Izzy James. This is book three in the Yorktown Christmas Time Travel Novella series. I have read one other book in the series and enjoyed the author's writing style very much. This is a quick read at 126 pages You will find yourself lost in the story within the first few pages.
Dr. Rita Woods who is now retired - is bored with her current life. She finds out about Max Ballard and his time-traveling conservator. She wants to go back to 1769 and assist Dr. Josiah Jones. Dr. Jones had inspired her to be a physician. She has read his diary and there is one line that haunts her, “…the children succumbed in the night…”
Dr. Josiah Jones has a good life. His practice is thriving and, except for the the guilt he carries over the death of his wife. He is very thrown off when Rita arrives telling him she is from the future. She wants to save the children that Dr. Jones could not save.
This was such an amazing story. The story flows nicely. The characters are well developed and the story moves at a comfortable pace. Thank you to the author, publisher and Celebrate Lit for allowing me to read a copy of this book - all thoughts are my own.
Rita's story was as wonderful as the other two books in this series. The world building was so well done that you felt like you were in 1769. This series was a joy to read. Highly recommend.
I was so confused and disappointed she already travelled back in time and probably met the man in one of the earlier books. I was not interested in the description of the first two books so started with the third book and felt the book was too mismashed and not organized enough I could not finish it.
