After the Plague #3

KILLING A PERSON changes you. Killing your little brother destroys you. I should know. His name was Carl. When he was a kid, he always ate the blue M&Ms first and then the green. He dreamed of going to go to the moon. I didn't hesitate. I didn’t even blink. BOOM down he went, and his eyes, so much like mine, locked on my face screaming a single soul-crushing question—how could you?

EVEN AS I PULLED THE TRIGGER, I knew the answer. I did it to save a woman with the warmest heart I’ve ever known, quick with a smile, and fast with a laugh. Her eyes are battery acid green and her touch is the only thing keeping me sane in the Groundhog's Day of hell we're living. Carl was going to desecrate her, hurt Auden. It was him or them. These are the things I tell myself in the night, repeat the words, but it doesn’t matter. I see his face in every shadow, hear his voice in every crow's call.

THE WORST PART, she doesn’t even know. She thinks the man who hurt her was a stranger, a random tweaker tossed our way by fate. She has no idea it was my brother I killed. She's too lost in her own pain and grief. I can't pile another burden onto her shoulders.

SO NOW, as we team together with a new crew and make the impossible choice of where we’re going to live out our post-apocalyptic lives, all I can think of is what will she say when she knows the truth?

⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ...📚 Re-Reading the entire series because I realised I haven't finished it...Rating gone from 4 ⭐️ (2023) to 5 ⭐️ (2025)

☀︎ FOUND ☀︎ Is the third full length post apocalyptic book within the (After the Plague) series by author Imogen Keeper. Spoken in dual POV's. (Frankie & Yorke) This kicked off right where the previous book left off. So they MUST be read in order.

(2025) I'm enjoying this more the second time around, the slow emotional burn with Frankie struggling without her husband Jimmy by her side, looking after a small non blood wee boy and his faithful dog to leaning on Yorke to keep them safe.

They both know they have to leave the city, with the lady in the white house barricading all bridges leaving the city, and in the meantime she's gathering an army and taking the children so it's becoming unsafe for them to stay there any longer. Waiting for Colleen and her crew to find them is risky.

But still Yorke worries about his younger brother, not having heard from him since the internet went out he doesn't know if he's succumbed to the virus or is all alone out there.

Whilst Yorke is taking care of guards posted on the bridge exit, Frankie and Auden are doing one last scavenger hunt, things don't go smoothly this time around. Auden is taken, Frankie is beaten an inch within her life, Yorke gets there just in time when things could've gone a whole lot worse, but what he didn't prepare for was when he clapped eyes on his very own flesh and blood holding the two most previous people he's come to love being held captive.

But having to shoot his brother is the worst thing Yorke has had to endure.

They do make a safe exit from the city, hole up in a house, meet other survivors, and even Colleen and her crew of other survivors join forces with the others and head towards a safe place Frankie knows about.

(2023) So many feels, palms sweaty, heart racing, and falling more and more into this world head first. Like the previous books this too was inhaled!

And still throughout my heart beats for Yorke, the things he endured to keep the ones he's starting to love safe had my heart breaking. This man is so strong, a lesser man would be broken.

What I love about this is that even though it's set in a post apocalyptic world this author hasn't gone full out crazy with the twist and turns which makes it all seem so real and lifelike and that's why I love this series as much as I do.

When one sniffle, cough, sneeze has your heart stopping incase it's life threatening, if you can or can't trust the other survivors, if you have to hurt, kill someone you knew before the world imploded all makes for a heart stopping, unputdownable read.

The ✨feels✨ this book has given me.
The character development is chef's kiss.
My favourite of the series thus far and I'm hoping Safe is just as good.
(I might seem very calm but I'm crying tears of joy because I love this family so much)

If you don't like this series please don't tell me and stay away or things will get violent😊
(Jk... You are entitled to your opinion and I'll respect your reading choices as long as you respect mine bestie) This family will always be my favourite.

Now, I just need my own Yorke but without the whole post-apocalypse and people dying thing.

It's SO effing good. There's heartache and wanting, there's action and danger... the drama and laughter. The series is just that effing good!

I'm so conflicted about reading the fourth book now because I know a fifth one is coming. Bah, fcuk it... I'm reading the next one.

Re-read in preparation for book four! No pressure Immy.

New survivors and more Frankie and Yorke. I love their character growth throughout this series.
"It's okay," he whispers, trailing kisses. "It's okay to love him. There's a room in you for both of us."

Still decent. The books are way too short though and I kind of wish it had more of a plot where they are on the run or something because it gets a little boring at times. Idk I need zombies or something.

This series is so sweet... Frankie is sunshine, rainbows and happiness and I love this next installment of Plague. Yorke and Frankie together make me squee with joy even though they are at the end of the world they find a way to make life bearable. The author added new characters and I feel like my friend list just doubled.

If you like sweet AND steamy romance, this is for you.

“There’s nothing I wouldn’t do to get back to you”

I am a Romantasy girl through and through… and I never thought a Mortal Man would have me swooning so much!

I have truly come to love Yorke so much.

I am really enjoying the Character Development throughout this series.
While this one was slightly less action packed than the second book, I love the introduction to some more side characters.

I find the narrative to be very realistic… as soon as Yorke said something felt off my heart started pounding… this book, while short - certainly has me feeling a range of emotions. Laughing one minute and Terrified the next.

I am so worried my heart is going to be broken at the end of this series but I cannot wait to keep reading.

Le he bajado la nota porque en vez de estar los tres juntos y a salvo, se han unido a un grupo y se han puesto en peligro intentando rescatar a los demás? Sí.
Es que me angustio muy fácil… con lo felices que eran los tres solitos, de verdad xD

Firstly, if you haven’t read books 1 and 2, STOP and read them now! Each book picks up where the previous one leaves off, so you will be discombobulated if you don’t start at square one. You’re welcome! 😉

Now. Where to begin?

Oh, yes—tears. Multitudes of tears have these books caused me to cry. For the short while I knew Jimmy, he made such a huge impact on me emotionally. Even though I love Yorke and Frankie, I can never completely forget about sweet Jimmy. 😭

This book was simply amazing. Tensions run high, secrets are revealed, and a new hope is found. 5 complete stars from me for this awesome slow-burn post-apocalyptic romance!

I received an advanced reader copy of this novel and this is my completely unbiased review.

Still sitting here dealing with the fallout from the last book and expecting more pain and suffering to be read in the third entry, Found. I get that and more. So much more. I honestly didn’t expect to find myself laughing. Yes, there were tears and gut-wrenching fear, but also moments of hilarity. Oh, the surprises instore for Frankie and Yorke. New crew, new life, and actual future together. Is it possible? The emotions between them as the heat cranks up another notch so delicious. But there are secrets that still lay between them, lost loves and pain, and it’s a hurdle they need to get over. The growth between them as a couple and as they find their own individual strengths is what really makes this series special

I’ve run the gambit of emotions. Devastation, tears, laughter. One epic moment after another. But it all comes to one crashing explosive moment as Frankie, Yorke, Auden, Beast and their new crew make the impossible choice of where they are going to live out our post-apocalyptic lives. Can they get out of the city? Whats in store for them next? The anticipation is killing me!

Folks let me warn you now, this is a series that needs to be read in order. There’s a lot that happens in each book and they just build on each other that without already in the know, you’ll be lost. From the Initial devastation of the plague in book one, to the building of the relationship between Frankie and Yorke in book two and finally to book three’s friends, fallout, and freedom. Yes, there is a lot to miss and I wouldn’t want anybody missing out on any moments. This is a series I will be recommending!

On to book…4? Wait. There’s a fourth book? And I don’t have it. WHAT HAPPENS NEXT?!?!?! WAHHHH!!!

Some nagging weaknesses, but still good reading!

Lemme just come right out and say that everything good that I've been praising about this series thus far still exists. As I've come to expect by now, this is another short entry, which means the pacing is quick, easy, and painless. There's decent character development (at least from the main ones) and some interesting revelations in the plot itself. There're also new characters entering the fray, which can help add a unique "texture" to things. I'm still invested in what's going on in the story, both the apocalyptic one and the romance within it.

Now that my compliments are said and done, here's what my final thought was on my review for the previous book:
"I'm looking forward to the next entry to (hopefully) answer some of my biggest questions."
The good news is that I definitely got those answers. But the bad news? Those answers only lead to even more questions that (given how this book ended) will now remain unanswered. If you don't mind being spoiled, then carry on. But if you want to avoid spoilers, please read no further.

SPOILERS TO FOLLOW:

Now fortunately, this book answered my big question of "Is Carl really dead?" since his entire confrontation with Yorke was conveniently left off-page in the previous book. But his reveal at the end of this book, while surprising, only created even MORE questions, like...why'd Yorke think he killed Carl in the first place? The gunshot went through his arm, which theoretically could still bleed out, but even then, did Yorke witness it happen? Did Carl simply lose consciousness and Yorke thought he died? How'd Carl get himself out of that situation and wind up with the White House crew, and what made him turn against them?

But now, because Carl dies for real at the end of this book, none of these questions will be answered, which in turn makes everything around his sacrifice feel so incredibly cheap and placed in the story for shock value and plot convenience. Even a simple narrative chapter from Carl's perspective (placed directly after his first reveal to Frankie) could have solved this problem. In fact, a narrative chapter from Carl could have ALSO given much-needed information about the entire WHW plotline, which is still so criminally underdeveloped, flimsy, and sloppy. But I suppose that's the price that must be paid to give the romance more room to bloom? I dunno.

Anyway, despite my grumbling, I'm still enjoying myself, and at the end of the day that's pretty much what matters the most. Onward.

It’s a good series. I like the writing and IK is good at getting you to care about the characters, esp with dogs and five year old kids. So cute and Frankie is so whimsical. Yorke is all sorts of awesome and superhero like. I even liked the scenes at the beginning with Jimmy. I felt their pain. It was heartbreaking but good.

I was sucked in at the beginning in books one and two…and even most of book 3. Just near the end, I got a little bit distracted. I read a review about how someone was hoping for zombies. I was confused at the time but now I get it. I need a bit more to happen. I ended up skimming the last 20%. Mainly because work is busy and I needed to finish it. I know they still need to find a new home, etc but the way it’s ended in this book, I feel like I’m happy that things are resolved and don’t have a real desire to read on. We will see….

FREEEEEEDOME

In Book 3 the events of Book 2 are taking their toll on Frankie. She's physically, mentally and emotionally hurting. Yorke does everything he can to make Frankie feel safe and secure. But they both face a situation that neither them nor us as the reader are prepared for. Let's just say I am glad that played out how it did.

Imogen takes the amazing characters she's writing about and puts them in realistic situations that result in a journey that will take you up , down and all around.

Book 3 ends with Yorke having to go through something tough. Looking forward to Book 4, and more Frankie and Yorke. I need to see what other obstacles they will encounter on their way to safety and FREEEEEEDOME!!!

And oh, I am so glad the new book is coming in summer!
I will read it the instant it is here.
Frankie and Yorke and Queen. Add Shasta and friends. Now add COLLEEN and friends.
Read to see how it happens. It is exciting and gut wrenching.

Another excellent entry into the series! The writing is so clean and sharp and the emotions continue to be genuine, without any manufactured drama. The story moves along at a great pace, it's all smooth sailing and 100% believable. Frankie and Yorke are great characters, and they way they navigate their growing relationship is so fantastic. I cannot wait for book four!

Captivating post-apocalyptic, breath taking, awesome read
I absolutely love this story and these two main characters. They are a bit of opposites attract, Yorke is a hard core well oiled military machine, and Frankie is artistic and creative in her nature. The author did such an awesome job of making these characters come alive and bringing these two together. Yorke, a testament to his strength, but he has a sadness about him that he wants/needs Frankie with her inner strength to help him to move forward. She thinks she is such an erratic panicker with no qualities to add to the group as they all fight for survival, but she does not even realize the hope she coveys. “Frankie thinks of making a life worth living. Not just surviving. Thriving.”
A well written plot that conveys an overwhelming realism to surviving in this new way of life. With very few survivors after the pandemic, there will always be bullies who will try to control everyone else. Then Frankie and Yorke also have to deal with getting over the daily traumas that keep popping up on their way to escaping the madness. Yorke has to deal with killing his own brother and Frankie has to deal with being the victim of an assault. I felt this was as real as it would get if this were to really happen, the tension and suspense as to what was going to happen next and how they dealt with each other kept me riveted to the book. Even though this is an ongoing story, there was a conclusion to this book, but there is plenty more to come. I received this book for free and voluntarily reviewed.

“If Auden’s my home, Yorke’s become the other half to my scale, the balance that keeps me steady, focused, and tethered.” - Frankie

“‘Who are you? Where’s Yorke?’I don’t fucking know, Frankie. I really don’t. I think he died months ago, on a rooftop, drunk off his ass, the minute he heard you crying.” - Yorke

Guys! The third volume to this story is just amazing! I can’t say much without spoilers, but I definitely fell more in love with these characters!

In this volume, you continue to follow Frankie, Yorke and Auden after a pretty rough experience. They are still holding out to try and find the group they were separated from and they even meet some new people who they aren’t sure if they can trust or not.

The last scene in this book flew by a little more quickly than I would have liked, but it was still crazy amazing! Will be continuing on and reading Safe soon!

Found was a satisfying third installment in the After the Plague series. It's been kind of interesting to read these as shorter volumes versus one big book. It helps keep the pacing moving along. This third volume was my favorite of the three. It had the emotion of the first volume with the action of the second all rolled into one. I do recommend these to anyone looking for an apocalyptic romance series. Imogen Keeper exceeded my expectations with this series!
