Ryann Underwood is no stranger to being left behind. At fourteen, her dad left her with a mom that didn't care. Then her ex-girlfriend, Gretchen, left her not just once, but twice. Putting herself back out there scares the hell out of her, but watching all of her friends pair up and start families makes her desperate to find that as well. After making a dating profile, she quickly learns she might not be so good at this dating thing. Her failed attempts at finding a partner bring one big question to Is she destined to be alone forever or is she missing something that's right in front of her?
Erica Lee finished writing her first book, Dear Santa: I’m Gay, in December 2016. Erica currently lives in Pennsylvania with her wife, dog, chinchilla, and bunny. She spends her days working as an optometrist and her nights snuggled up on the couch with her furry family, binging on netflix or youtube.

Ryann is my most favorite character in this series, so I kinda looking forward to her part of the story. My thought about it is the opposite to the title because I was expecting it. Btw, the story are left hanging so I expect the next book will be the continuation of it from another pov.

The best book of the series?! Well, YEAH! (so far I mean the follow-up must be to die for). This one was so good.
So, this story follows: Ryann Underwood, she’s a sweetheart, the kind of person that’s always worried about other people’s happiness and well being, Ryann also suffered a lot when she was a teenager, she didn’t have a reliable mother figure and her dad just left, however she fought and tried the best she could; she went to college out of state, she met a girl, was in a long term relationship with Gretchen but out of the blue, Gretchen, broke up with her so she decided to go back to Philly where her family (the McBrides) and her bestie was living. Ryann’s best friend is Maggie McBride, they have been friends since grade school and have shared all of it: secrets, break-ups, holidays; Maggie shared her family with Ryann and she's basically another daughter to her parents.
This book is tricky so.. I’m just gonna hide the next paragraph in case you don’t want any type of spoilers because there’s a huge development that I simply loved and will probably affect upcoming books in the series.
Why is this my favorite novelette of all? Because you have known these characters since the novelette that started it all, The Six Pack, and you get to learn through every single one of the next seven novelettes what was happening with each one of them.
Also for me Ryann and the girl she’s falling for are meant to be together, because sometimes when you are too good of a person people tend to take advantage but in this case, the girl Ryann wants to date and would love to make her dreams true with, just seems to be happy to protect her and give her the confidence, trust and support she needs.
P.S.: Amelia Serrano-Kaufman is the best!! She might be my favorite, so perceptive, I don't know, I just love the way her character was written.
I was so happy that it was the first of the month which means another in this series was available to read. This is a less than 100 page novella and I wish it was longer only because I wanted to spend more time with the characters. This is Ryann Underwood’s story. She has been the lifelong friend of Maggie (the lawyer/photographer) and is successful at selling used cars. She had a girlfriend in Florida previously and is finally ready to move on to the dating scene. As she sees her friends all pairing up she is ready for that experience. But her dates don’t go well. Finally, her roommate Kiera (Maggie’s younger sister) offers to go on a fake date to give feedback on what to do better.
This is a story that has been building in the previous books and shouldn’t surprise anyone who has read carefully. The entire story is told from Ryann’s POV and I wish I knew the other persons thoughts. I thought the ending was abrupt, mostly because it leaves at a cliff hanger moment. The other books in the series seem more wrapped up than this one. It makes me glad August is a short month and I can’t wait to see what happens next.
This is the one I was waiting for because I just feel for her. I knew where this was going and I am in for it. The next one should be a good continuation.
Really wish this wasn’t a short and I didn’t have to wait a month for more!!
I love Kiera so much, I have throughout this series, I like how she’s almost reserved but outgoing, I’m intrigued to see what’s going on in her head and I can’t wait for more!
The title is correct about this book. Did not expect for the story to end this way. I don’t want to spoil the book so I’ll keep it vague but this is my least fav trope so it wasn’t for me
Wait, haven’t I just said for like seven of these books in a row that they’re super-funny and sweet but not angsty? And then we get THIS? I stand corrected…
Ryann, you’re a sweetheart, but in the dictionary under oblivious it says “see you.” I mean take this paraphrased exchange: A Person: “You’re beautiful, you’re cool, and you could never ever lose me!” Ryann: Yeah, that person definitely just looked up to me in middle school. Or this private thought: Ryann was shocked at how good it felt to have [person] in her arms. Because their relationship was completely platonic. Like every person you platonically hold and cuddle and it feels so so good? Ryann, Ryann, Ryann. What am I going to do with you?
Anyway, long story short, I loved this installment. 😂 It was the perfect slow burn, long and drawn out and I gnashed my teeth and cursed the oblivious one while the other wore her heart on her sleeve. Poor Ryann has such bad luck dating, and at first it seems like it’s everybody else, and then it starts to seem more like self-sabotage, and there’s a fake date and a one bed and a… Well I suppose I should leave something for the actual story.
But… every single bit of it was amazing. And now the Six Pack has an angsty installment, at least in the slow burn kind of sense. Good enough for me! I liked #2 and #6 a lot, but I think this is my favorite so far.
Unexpected- I Think It Was Expected! And Very Good!
Yes, we are now delving into Ryann and Kiera. Ryann who has been treated like dirt from her ex and now on a dating app, that is not going any better. Kiera who is now Ryann’s roommate, is trying to encourage her but Ryann’s self esteem is very low. Now it has been Kiera trying to let Ryann know how “special” she is. Ryann sees the lines are getting crossed but as much as she is feeling, this is Kiera. This was such a good story and exciting way to end. Again, can’t wait for the next installment. Erica this is getting better and better…..
I know Erica is plotting and typing as fast as she can, but this reader wants to devour these novellas filled with such great characters. In this story, Ryann and Keira get their chance. Since she was five, Keira has been like a little sister to Ryann, but she's all grown up now and they're sharing an apartment. Ryann has a terrible dating history and cannot figure out what she is doing wrong, yet nothing is better than to snuggle on the couch and watch movies with her roommate. This relationship has been building over the last few books so although it was unexpected for them, it wasn't for the reader. Another cute story in the Six Pack series!
Oh Ryann! My heart 😭 I feel for this girl hard and I love her. It was amazing to get Ryanns story and also see her and Kiera living together. And ending things on a cliffhanger!? Erica! Onto the next book 🤣🤣
This is part of a series of short stories. So make sure you start with The Six Pack and work your way through. This one is book 8 in the story and the series follows a group of queer friends.
Written in third person with single POV. Friends to Lovers, Roommates, Found Family. 1x Spicy Scene.
Ugh I just so dislike cliffhangers. What a delightful story of love right in front of you.
Ryan has been left by so many that being wanted is an impossible thought for her. Kiera has been there for so much of that life and is now her roommate. The attraction is strong but neither know how to address it. What a story and an incredible ending that leaves me sad knowing Sept. is a long month away. So i not so patiently await book nine. Bravo Erica Lee
How could you leave me hanging like that? Omg!!! Loved the book! I’ve actually loved all your books. This one really has been one of my favorites though. I love Ryan, and maybe relate to her personality more than any of the others. Still mad at you! 😉 so til September I guess..
Ryann is now rooming with her best friend’s sister, Kiera. They are getting really close and moving to close friendship. Now Ryann has a dating profile and is attempting to meet new women. How is this going to help her move on from her past? Great series.
Its interesting to see characters with our own insecurities and flaws and how they work with them and overcome them. And it helps to have a support system to do that. it gives us all hope that we too can do so. This is another story where that hope is expressed. a quiet connection between two women and how they work together to bring out the best in each other.
Let me start the review with this: That cliffhanger :( Why would you do this to me, Erica, whyyyyy?!?!
Okay, now that I got that out of my system, let’s get to it. Erica Lee does it again. Seriously, The Six Pack series is such a treat and I look forward to them each month. I have patiently been waiting for Ryann’s story since the first few pages of book 1. Why you may ask? Well, I’m a sucker for certain tropes and (no spoilers) but as soon as I read a certain line in the first few pages in the first Six Pack book I knew I found a new favorite book couple. I’ve been waiting to see if what I was thinking was going to happen would happen.
“Unexpected” does not disappoint and it was worth the wait. I love Ryann and want her to be happy so badly (insert me giving her ex evil eyes). In book 8 Ryann wants to find love after watching all of her friends settle down, so she goes on many disastrous dates. Lucky for her, she has her roommate Kiera to come home to for snuggles and venting sessions. Kiera picks Ryann up, where others have let her down (I’m looking at you, Gretchen), and they are so sweet together. No spoilers, but if you love a good slow burn then this is the book for you. As for me, I’ll be waiting for book 9 to see how the story continues.
Aside from the many grammatical errors, I enjoyed this story and am excited to read more about this six pack couple in book 9. By the way, grammatical errors slow down my reading!
Excellent, excellent excellent read in this series. Ryan and Kiera are so wonderful. At first I didn't expect them to get together but as the story progressed it was inevitable that they were made to be together. Wonderful story Erica.
Another great entry in this ongoing series of novellas. This one FINALLY showed us a relationship that was brewing in the background (although only in hints) this whole time and I was so excited to see it! This novella was a great case of showing only one POV but allowing the reader to figure out what the other character was thinking through their actions and cues, which many novels seem to struggle with. The chemistry was sweet, and the eventual blow-up was incredibly satisfying. This novella did everything right and I have nothing at all to complain about or even nitpick.
This was the only “cliffhanger” so far. I would have been upset but I already had the next one to dive into.
This series is at the point where they get to stand on top of a mountain of character/setting/plot development, and the result is very satisfying. Straight into the satisfying content!
