A second chance, surprise pregnancy romance.

He was my high school sweetheart.
My dream guy. My soul mate.
And as of yesterday... my ex-husband.

He wanted everything I couldn't give him. A doting wife, a perfect family, a white picket fence, and game nights.

It's not that I didn't want to be his wife anymore. I just wanted something more—a career. So when an opportunity came up two years ago, it was easier to make him hate me than have him think he wasn't enough.

Now, a day after our divorce is final, I find myself thrust back in the town we grew up in, down the street from the house we once owned together.

Seeing him again has me second-guessing everything. My priorities. My reason for leaving. My secrets.
When we cave, and have one explosive night of ex sex, everything changes.
Or nothing has.

And I have to decide if history is about to be repeated.

Despite the fact that she is a romance writer, Samantha Christy's favorite television show of all time is The Walking Dead.

And contrary to the fact that her heroines drink things like wine and Cosmos, she prefers Bud Light.

She also loves fan mail and answers all of it.

She went to college and all that, getting a degree in something she never uses. She's also got a gaggle of kids (4) and a pretty decent husband.

Safety:
- h: only ever with him, they were each other’s first
- H: fucked two other women during the separation, one for one month the other whom he impregnated and has a baby with at the end for six months. He also cheated on the heroine while she was working kissing one random at a bar
- when she arrived she saw him kissing the ow he was dating

If I never read another book by this author again it still would be too soon. I wish I could scrub this from my brain
This author hates the heroine. It’s disgusting.

The heroine left the hero after three years of marriage because she thought he wouldnt be happy in another city where she had a job opportunity. She left leaving him thinking she cheated and he never fought for her even though he in fact cheated, nobody knew and he told her only in the present time. He sees her as the bad one but he is worse and he know it but still acts like she is wrong. One he finds out she never cheated he blames himself more because he did cheat but she is a doormat so she accepts everything he does. She even takes the blame for most of his fucks ups.

She acts and feels like a mother who is responsible for a child and when they acted out they blame themselves, only in this case he is a fucking grown up

- SHE NEVER CHEATED, SHE WAS ONLY EVER WITH HIM
- he CHETAED, because she was working hard he kissed another woman!!! He is the true cheater here. He never stoped her from leaving because of his “guilty”
- this didn’t stoped him from fucking two other woman during the two years of separation before the divorce was finalized. He dated o e for a month and the other who was heroine nemesis during high school for six months!
- he got another woman pregnant (calista, the other woman he dated until the heorine returned) he said he always used condoms but it obviously failed and weeks later he gets the heroine pregnant too, they never used protection and there was not even a mention of a STD test after knowing he was with others and one of the women got pregnant
- THE BABIES WERE BONR AT THE SAME DAY AND THE HEROINE CALLED THEM “HALF TWINS”

This books doesn’t seem real, really looked like a big joke, like the author was pranking the readers writing the nastiest shit she could think of and calling it a romance.
The heroine is one of the most pathetic excuses of a human being I have ever had the displeasure of reading. The hero is a total asshole. He cheated, was super cold after cheating, never ever fight for her, fucked two other woman during the time apart, impregnated another woman and the heroine at the same time and she blames herself.

The epilogue is one of the most disgusting shit I ever read, the hero wants his cakes and he eats it too, the heroine and him are married and the other woman and her husband are neighbors, they don’t even have a fence because they are a big family now. 😷🤢🤮

- one baby the ow was expected May Day 21 the heroine May Day 29 but they both arrived the same day. The here always dreamt of having two girls and he had, Ashley (ow) and aurora. He got everything he ever wanted, even fucked other woman while she only suffered. 😤 he never really supported her job aspirations and in the end when he decided to support her even though if she choose to have a job at another city he wouldn’t go with her because it doesn’t match his drama and also because he has another baby on the way with the ow, so he is only now supporting her decision to work hard and maybe in another city becausehe is afraid she is going to resent hi😡

I am really shocked this was even written. How bad can it be? How a woman can write such an weak excuse of a heroine?
This is awful I’m shocked someone even published this I am e Kutcher’s face on my kindle telling me was I pranked

No, no and no! The heroine lies to the hero and says she cheated on him so he would hate her and let her leave. He moves on and gets his girlfriend pregnant AND ends up getting the heroine pregnant. No thank you!!!! This is definitely not romance to me.

I WAITED MONTHS FOR THIS BOOK AND THIS IS WHAT I GET??? I read the blurb a month ago or so and it was everything I love, so I bought it the second it came out, first let me just say this book is pathetic the heroes have pathetic misunderstandings and the h lied and say she cheated on H? huh? okkk..... anyway what bothered me most was that Jaxon's FUCKING GIRLFRIEND GOT PREGNANT by him, he didn't even like calista and then Nicky got pregnant as well WTFFF, if calista would've lied and it actually wasn't his baby, then yeah sure whatever, but this BS is just a NOGO

The most fucked up cheating H story written by a gigantic doormat author.
H cheated during their marriage. Then when he’s back with the h 2 yrs later, he got his ex gf and h pregnant at the same time.

- during separation- h remained celibate. He fucked ow. Of course what do you expect when this is written by a doormat author.

Avoid all future books from this author!

There is nothing romantic about a man having a child with his ex and the h at the same time. Nothing. Neither pregnancy is planned and both women end up due within weeks of each other.

Other random things that annoyed me: This is a second chance romance, so the couple has been apart. He of course has had sex with other women. The h, of course has not been with anyone else.
The ex moving next door? Without talking to him first? Creepy.
In spite of the fact the two women never got along, one act of kindness and they are best friends. Sure. All is forgotten.

I hated the ending, the whole communal family thing taking the fence down, kiddos best friends.
This was not a love story about Nicky and Jaxon. It was a story about Calista getting everything she always wanted and her happily ever after.

The pregnancy detecting dog was my favorite character and trumps the heroine who says she cheated so she could get away for her career as well as the hero who actually does cheat.

Gotta love his mom's excitement that he's going to have two daughters...from two separate women....two weeks apart. But wait, the girls are born on the same day so they're twins...kind of.

Update. I finished this. It took me longer than normal because I really didn’t enjoy it. I upgraded to 2 stars because it’s well written and the best that could be done with this hurtful situation. It’s not a believable story imo for the kind of good guy Jaxon is. I have a hard time with the probability of two unexpected pregnancies happening with no NEW cheating. The drama and hurt took away from the love story for me. I just didn’t believe in it.

Babies born on the same day. The OW had hers at 11:59p🙄 both babies have names that start with A. h calls them half twins 🤢 The h and the OW become besties. OW was the h’s nemesis in high school and H knew that because they’ve been together since 13 except for 2 year separation which is when he sleeps with 2 other women and knocks one of them up. h was celibate and he is her one and only. OW ends up being their nanny and lives next door with her now husband. They just walk into each other’s houses. OW was pretty awful to h during her pregnancy and rubbed it in her face. h blamed herself for everything even though though H cheated for real when they were married the first time. She doesn’t even get mad at him when she finds out 2 years later. He’s nasty to her when he finds out she was pregnant 2 years ago. Accuses her of “aborting/killing” their baby. She had a miscarriage at 15 weeks and delivered the baby with no friends or family. She sleeps with him minutes after that. Now she and their daughter and her husband get to spend the rest of their lives explaining this gross situation.

Previous review
I’m on page 29. I had a feeling based on the title and searched calista and pregnant and didn’t like what I found. Did some other searching and found out jaxon cheated for real when they were married by kissing someone else. Nicki lied about cheating so he wouldn’t bother coming after her. She never knew he cheated until 2 years later when she’s back. He let everyone blame her, hate her, and talk shit about her. Calista ends up pregnant. Then Nicki ends up pregnant only 3 weeks behind. This book is gross. It’s a huge mess and the blurb did not shed light on this. I’ve been waiting on this one and was super excited and now I don’t think I can force myself to read it. One of these issue would be workable. All of these together isn’t the kind of HEA I’d want in my life. There should definitely be a trigger warning for cheating.

I gotta read this shit now.

JFC…GR is losing their fucking mind over this…LMAO

EDIT…
So I read it. It’s boring AF. Even the drama is low key. Like all the lusciousness of the OWFB and ex-wife h both being preggers and the OWFB moving in next door becomes DRAMA-LESS as the women become besties and the OW moves on to the BFF of the H.

What the fuck ever.

PS…the H was a Beta coward. He never fought for the h and never put the OW in her place. Everything just worked out easy-peasy for him with little to no effort on his part. Fuck, even the OW broke up with him so he didn’t have to when h came back.

This was not it. I’m extremely disappointed with this book. I honestly did not finish as it just started to get weird.

So I have previously read the Mitchell sisters series and really enjoyed that series. Unfortunately I can’t say the same for the Calloway series. I read Unlikely Date and I won’t lie didn’t love it felt the rom com aspect talking about some serious issues didn’t balance out. However they kept mentioning Tag’s brother Jaxon and his ex wife. I was honestly so curious as to what there story was about. I thought the series whoukd be better with book 2.

Boy was I wrong! The angst between the couple was none existent. One minute the hero is in love with her but has lady on the side who is not his girlfriend but he has sex with her. He is unable to commit to her and sister gives him a pep talk he finally wants to commit then sees his ex wife at the reunion then doesn’t commit and is suddenly smitten with ex wife again.

I felt the hero… You know what I can’t keep calling him a hero he is a douche. The MMC was the worst no grovelling, he is the one that actually cheated when everyone thought she did. Gets his ex lady friend with benefits pregnant who ends up living next door. Then gets his ex wife pregnant.I couldn’t finish when I read that.

I really expected the FMC to be a lot stronger and hold her own but she ended up just taking it and I hated that considering she had left her marriage to pursue her career. Characters behaviours did not match up at all. I thought this book was a joke will definitely not be reading the next in line. I can’t even call this a rom com 🤮🤮🤮

PATETICO!

After loving Unlikely Date earlier this year, I was so excited for Unfinished Ex. Second chance romances between ex spouses are so angsty. Throw in a surprise pregnancy and you should have something delicious. Should.. but didn’t. Unfortunately, this book failed to deliver anything good. This was probably the messiest book I’ve read this year. The hero was weak and got mad at the heroine for the silliest things. The only thing I liked about him was his relationship with his dog. The heroine wasn’t any better, making her husband believe that she cheated so she can leave and pursue her dream of being a meteorologist. Why not just, I don’t know, TALK TO EACH OTHER?? Especially considering that they were together since they were 14 years old.. why go through all that time to just throw it away over lies? Then, not only did we have a mean girl ex girlfriend, but SHE was the one with the surprise pregnancy first! I’m sorry, what?? And the ex-wife was somehow okay with it. I just.. my eyes were so far in the back of my head by the time I finished reading.

I still am cautiously optimistic for the third book, but my expectations are pretty low. The writing felt very amateur and lacked the depth that I enjoy.

ARC received in exchange for an honest review.

It’s no mystery that Samantha can write, the emotions she can draw out of you and make you feel. This one still have all of those. But there is a twist towards the end that I could not get behind, and I just don’t personally agree with. I read another book with a similar twist and to this day I can never get over it.

The way this story ended, just had me angry and upset. A month later and I’m still feeling this way. For that, that’s what my rating is because.

My God could this be any more disgusting?

The MMC cheated and still got the best conclusion ever. He didn’t even support the career aspirations of the FMC.
Does the author hate career oriented women somehow??

This is so disgusting to write…

It all seemed as if it was meant to be, they met in high school, fell fast and hard for one another, and made life long plans. But somewhere along the way Jaxon and Nicky's perfect life started to falter, and the things that seemed to make sense at one time no longer did. Nicky wanted things their small town life couldn't afford her and Jaxon wanted to take steps in their marriage that Nicky wasn't ready for... so the logical thing to do was go their separate ways. Jaxon waivered on their decision of divorce feeling like there might be something to salvage, but Nicky didn't feel the same way, and made her point very clear, so Jaxon signed the papers. They were finally over... or were they?

The pages of this beautifully penned love story will torture your heart in the best possible way. Nothing hurts more than love gone wrong, and Jaxon and Nicky can easily attest to that, the last few years of their lives have been horrible. They've tried to move on, date other people, make a new life for themselves, but there is always this niggling feeling that something is missing. Did they make a mistake signing those papers? Did they have it right to begin with, that they were meant to be? Or are they just stuck in a rut? It's an impossible situation, many obstacles still keeping them apart, but one thing is for sure, their hearts aren't ready to fully let go.

I loved every single word of this story, it was real, so raw, rich with feeling and hope. It showed the messy parts of love, that it's possible to fix the unfixable, and save what you thought was broken. It shows you that true love is worth the fight, the work you have to put in, and if you believe in one another anything is possible. These two were destined to be together, even if they hesitated to believe it, and as I turned the pages and watched them find their way back together, my heart soared right along with theirs. It was such a touching reunion story, one that I won't soon forget. Highly recommend this one, once you meet these characters you won't be able to let them go!!

I requested an advanced copy of this title from the publisher, and I am voluntarily leaving my honest and unbiased opinion.

Jaxon and Nicky don’t know how unfinished they are until circumstance throws them back together in the small town of Calloway Creek. Neither is happy to see the other or so they would have people believe.

With the divorce finally through neither seem overly excited to be single and move on with their lives.

Their reunion is fraught, but makes for good town gossip, especially as Jaxon has been “dating” Nickys high school nemesis Calista. Nickys arrival throws a major spanner in the works, then things just spiral from there, with both Jax and Nicky being torn over their true feelings.

Calista was a Karen 2.0 for me, I could just see Baylor and Gavin all over again, and really took a dislike to her…..that didn’t change for me throughout the book, she wasn’t ever going to be redeemed! But hey that me 🤷🏼‍♀️

Second chance romance with more than the first time round history causing waves in this one.

Samantha throws a few curve balls at us along the way.

We have a story of loss and love on multiple levels.

Can’t wait for Coopers book, me thinks we may need the tissues. But also I can’t wait for the McQuaid’s to get their story. Hudson, Hunter and Hawk’s are going to be an interesting read 😏

"It was meant to be. It was always meant to be."

I loved it.

I couldn't stop reading it.

I'm not going to spoil it but you can read other reviews and see if you can handle what happens in this book. The blurb does not all prepare you for the twist and the ending of this book.

But...I wanted to finish it and see how Jaxon was going to navigate the shit show that was his life.

"Being in his arms wasn't suffocating. It was like going home."

I cannot wait for Cooper's book. I have a feeling he is going to break my heart before putting it back together.

This Second Chance romance just wasn’t for me and I felt so bad for Nicole.

She wasn’t screaming doormat at first until OW came into the picture with that bombshell. Then not getting mad when she find out what Jaxon did in their past.

But what really threw me was her bombshell and how they both took it. This felt like a Tubi movie. This also showed how he could have his cake and eat it too!

DNF- supposed to be exactly my type of book, second chance and pregnancy trope, but then you find out the ex girlfriend and the main character both are pregnant. And supposedly he used condoms with the ex girlfriend… And the ex girlfriend is a bish. Yeah that ended it for me. Sorry. Love most of your work though.

“You and me, we’re unfinished. We have so much more left.”

Unfinished Ex is a hauntingly beautiful story of second chances, love, loss, and forgiveness. Jaxon and Nicky will give you all the feels and your heart will ache for them. I was transfixed with their story from the very first page to the last.

“We wanted different things. We always wanted different things. We just didn’t know it until it was too late.”

Nicky is a fierce, determined, and independent woman who gave up the only man she ever loved to chase her dreams. While her career fulfills her, her heart has never fully recovered from losing Jaxon. I loved that she knew herself well enough to know that she would never be happy unless she also had the career that she had always wanted and that she had the courage to try even when it broke her heart.

“How could I hate her when I still love her so goddamn much?”

Jaxon was the “nice” Calloway brother and had always wanted the white picket fence with the 2.5 kids. He thought his future was complete when he and Nicky married, but he didn’t fully understand her ambition. He was devastated when she left and he never stopped loving her. When she returns to town, all of his anger and passion and love explodes.

“Together or not, she’s always been my other half.”

Both Jaxon and Nicky were fallible and made mistakes that hurt one another. Their actions had caused so much pain, but they were able to own up to their missteps and learn from them. They needed to grow up and learn how to communicate in order to move on from their past and to be able to the best versions of themselves for each other. Their emotional journey was heartbreaking but was also inspiring. They showed that love and faith can help you face any obstacle that is placed in your way.

“It’s you and me against the world. Always.”

Full of difficult choices, angst, and a lot of heart, Unfinished Ex will take you on an emotional journey that will touch your heart. Jaxon and Nicky were truly soulmates and I loved watching them realize that sometimes your heart is right where you left it.

"Unfinished Ex" A Second Chance Surprise Pregnancy Romance by Samantha Christy

**Spoiler Alert**

Jaxon always knew he has a sixth sense for things and meeting Nicky was no accident. She was meant to be his but then years go by and things change.

Nicky has always loved him but she knew if she carried on the path she was on they would soon resent each other. She wanted her dreams to become a reality but the only way to do that was to walk away.

She is forced to face her fears and head back home. The divorce is final so will he see her differently now? Will she still see love in his eyes or has to much time passed. The town gossip is just about to sky rocket.

Jaxon has a secret and one that he's been keeping for 2 years but little does he know Nicky's secret is about to bring him to his knees.

This is a story not to miss. Secrets are revealed, truths are told but can broken hearts be mended?

What an epic love story of unexpected friendship, true and unconditional love, a bond of everlasting souls meant to be and a story with a twist that will keep you at the edge of your seat.

Samantha has such a beautiful way of writing. Her words on each page captivate you from beginning to end. I laughed, I cried and I fell in love with each character. I cannot wait for Coopers story and not too mention the McQuaid's. O how the mighty will fall... lol.... bring it on...

Samantha Christy you have left me speechless. This book was beautifully written with all the feels. So much story to read... get those tissues ready ladies...

I Don't even know what to say

I am always up for a second chance romance. But this book was ridiculous. High-school sweethearts get married. HS sweethearts don't communicate. Wife is offered a new job across the country. Instead of talking to husband she says she cheated on him. Wife leaves and husband doesn't follow. Two years later the divorce is still not final. Wife comes back to town. Husband has been kind of dating his wife HS nemesis for the past six months. Wife and Husband get back together. Nemesis finds out she's pregnant. So convenient. Wife finds out she's pregnant. So surprising. Nemesis tries to cause problems between Wife and Husband. Wife and Nemesis go into labor and each have a daughter on the same day. So unbelievable. Wife's emotions were stomped on the entire book. Wife and Husband weren't able to enjoy her pregnancy. Husband is treated like the golden husband in town. Unbelievably the Wife, Husband, and Nemesis live like one big happy family right next door to each other. The book is absolutely awful and I can't even think about going on to the next book.

Misunderstandings, bad timing, secrets, and opportunities, make up this latest book by Samantha Christy. The same week the divorce papers arrive, is the same week Nicky finds herself headed back to her hometown. Will she and Jaxson get a second chance? Or will the Football player and the Cheerleader be who the town is gossiping about? A quick, hard-to-put-down book, that I enjoyed from start to finish.

Thank you to the Author for the advanced copy; this is my voluntary review.

Samantha Christy delivers another emotional one-click tear-jerker with Unfinished Ex. This second chance romance pulls on every single heartstring, and delivers a truly beautiful HEA. Admittedly, I am a sucker for misunderstanding being made right, and this one hit home on so many levels.

I was not prepared for the twists and turns Christy built into Jaxon and Nicky’s story. Readers think they have the inside edge from breadcrumbs dropped in Unlikely Date, but don’t ever believe you know the full story until you read the very last word on the very last page. Chisty weaves so many elements of love, longing, and life choices into this book. And as much as some characters begged to be disliked, I just couldn’t. Christy excels at bringing that unlikeable character into your heart, building their backstory with brutal honesty and creating an emotional investment in the reader’s mind.

I particularly appreciated how Christy didn’t gloss over or hide her characters’ flaws, their fears, or their inner turmoil. It made what could have seemed comic and far-fetched more brutally honest and compelling. As usual, her characters are very well developed, with authentic and engaging dialogue, amusing and impassioned interactions, and honest and raw internal contemplation that ultimately leads to a beautiful HEA built on a foundation of fate, true love, and acceptance.

There are so many layers to this second chance, surprise pregnancy novel, that will leave the reader fighting through tears, laughter, and maybe even some righteous indignation. Although Unfinished Ex can be read as a standalone, reading Unlikely Date will definitely build a higher level of anticipation for Jaxon and Nicky’s HEA. I can’t wait to see what Christy has in store for the last Calloway brother.

Jaxon and Nicky were highschool sweethearts. They thought they were meant to be together forever but not even their marriage could compete with Nicky’s dream job. Now they’ve finally signed the papers on their divorce and Jaxon is trying to move on with a new relationship. Suddenly a new opportunity brings Nicky right back to the last place she wants to be. Although she enjoys being closer to her family, there is no way for her to avoid being around the man who she may still have feelings for.

Unfinished Ex is the wildest “accidental pregnancy” book that I have ever read. The plot has so many twists and turns that the range of emotions I had while reading this was just a rollercoaster.

Triggers: abortion/talk of abortion, miscarriage, surprise pregnancy, emotional manipulation

I would have liked this book a lot more had the author not brought in the “love triangle”. I don’t want to spoil the plot but I think the addition of the “other woman” and everything that goes on with her is just too much. It adds a lot to the storyline but not for the better. The book could have been a sweet & spicy second chance romance but there are just too many side plots.

I did like that Nicky’s character matures throughout the book. She realizes from talking to other women in her position that it is possible to have her dream job and still have a family. She learns the importance of balance from talking with her co-workers.

I know that surprise pregnancy books are not for everyone but if you do enjoy that specific trope, Unfinished Ex may be a great option for you. There is a HEA ending which I know is crucial for most romance readers.

This is the first book that I have read from author Samantha Christy. While this was not my favorite book, I would love to take a look at some of her other work.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
