The United Realm is at war with the Churrys, but with his duty to protect Chieftess Vera, Gent Henderson's biggest concern isn't an outside threat, it's rebellion from within.
His troubles increase in the form of an intelligent woman with wild red curls and a penchant for peppiness. She's supposed to help him ferret out the wily Koda, but her less than helpful actions make her suspect. When Chief Angus sends their small group away from the front lines to Campbell, Gent finds himself in the middle of the deadly action, and without much backup. At least that he can trust.
Mary Beesley is a writer. She didn't used to be. After having a profound difficulty learning to read, she's making up for lost time and trying to consume all the books and write all the words.
She aims to highlight the strength of human character and find hope in the hardships of life.
I binged book one and two in a day. There’s really no other way to read this duology. It’s gripping and epic and keeps you on your toes. I kind of want to cry now that it’s over. I’m going to miss these characters A LOT. It’s such a fun world and the conflicts and such are brilliant. Beesley is going places with her writing and I will be buying every book she puts out.
I loved returning to the United Realm and spending more time with Vera, Angus, and Gent (to name a few). Thanks to all the readers who asked for a sequel! Here it is. I hope you love Gent as much as I do. xo, Mary Beesley
Like the first book, the story hooked me immediately. Beesley’s use of detail brings each scene to life. I can see, hear, taste, feel, and smell the moments as if I was there myself. I also felt all the feels along the way, swept up in the emotions of the moment - thick at times, a rollercoaster ride for sure. Plus I love a book that makes me laugh out loud. Clever, quick witted dialogue and interactions between characters create a smooth dance so vivid it’s like watching them play out on a screen. As always, unexpected twists kept me up way too late flipping pages to see what happens next. The only thing disappointing about the story is that it ended.
