They were all in awe of Bersbee, because the man was more than just a genius -- he was a veritable sorcerer in the clouds. And no one dared to ask him how he did it, until one day...
Born and bred in Philadelphia, David Goodis was an American noir fiction writer. He grew up in a liberal, Jewish household in which his early literary ambitions were encouraged. After a short and inconclusive spell at Indiana University, he returned to Philadelphia to take a degree in journalism, graduating in 1937.
To be fair, I didn't realize that this was just a short story when I finished it (I was reading the ebook version), and I also didn't know that it would be a war story (the ebook didn't have a description). I honestly thought it was going to be a story about a literal wizard who worked with clouds. So, since Goodreads doesn't have a description either, I wanted to warn you all ahead of time. This is not about magicians--it's about WWII bomber pilots.
But, man...it was an interesting little story. I don't even like war stories, but I could not stop reading until I finished. It was really quick, but at the same time, just the right length. Highly recommend.
