Teacher and hidden witch, Ceri, has already had a rough day when she’s summoned to a party packed with psychic vampires. She was supposed to be on a boring date with safe and sturdy Nick, not dragging him along so the vampires could stare at him like… well, lunch.
Oh, but it gets worse. She returns home to see her teenage son’s girlfriend has been replaced by a fetch.
Welcome to a day in the life of Ceri Gault, witch extraordinaire.
After staying as far away as possible from the supernatural, Ceri finds herself unable to escape any longer when a death omen brings trouble to her door. Now, she and her children are exposed to magical beings who live disguised among humanity.
Out of the frying pan and into the fire. Except everyone else is going to burn. Ceri’s just going to light the fire, sit back, and enjoy the show.
A Paranormal Women's Fiction book for anyone who feels like age is just a number and midlife can be magic!
L.A. Boruff lives in East Tennessee with her husband, three children, and an ever growing number of cats. She loves reading, watching TV, and procrastinating by browsing Facebook. L.A.’s passions include vampires, food, and listening to heavy metal music. She once won a Harry Potter trivia contest based on the books, and lost one based on the movies. She has two bands on her bucket list that she still hasn’t seen: AC/DC and Alice Cooper. Feel free to send tickets.
Ceridwen Gault (“Ceri”) is a powerful mage who teaches in the local school. With the kin, magical beings who live disguised among humanity, aware of her and her children, she is more in demand than she wanted to be. Fortunately, she found protectors who act like sponsors and allow her to live among the kin without too much hassle.
After overusing her powers, Ceri is trying to take it easy. But events around her don’t take a break when someone plans to commit mass murder in her town. This will take more than just Ceri as she uses her magic, skills, and additional power from supernatural friends to stop it.
This story line was excellent as we learn about some different types of supernaturals and their role in the story. I loved the strong and independent nature of Ceri as she feels like the town's best defense against evil. I also loved Nick, her confident almost-boyfriend, who is there for her and has a wonderful personality that kept me smiling. Grab this action-packed book and sit back and enjoy!
Our heroine already has her hands full with real life, so she is not particularly pleased when the magical world intrudes on her as well. But some things just cannot be ignored, so she is going to roll her sleeves up, grab her friends and have at it. Bad guys beware.
This is book one of the series, so a fine place to start.
This is an urban fantasy story with all kinds of extras. I mean we do not stop at the usual witches, werewolves and vampires. Instead we get an entire menagerie, which is fine by me. The story is well written, easy to read and full of mischief. Both the characters and the setting are well done and we have only just scratched the surface here. The plot moves along at a fast pace with plenty of action, mystery and a bit of magic. Overall, a great first story and I am definitely looking forward to more.
Highly recommended.

Ceri is a witch working as a teacher to hide who she is so she won't be kidnapped again or have her children go through the torture she did. Along the way Ceri has been trying to keep the magic from becoming too strong in her but when starts to getting attacked she finally lets loose and even though she is in pain she is happier than she has been for a long time and she also founds out that her kids who she thought didn't receive her powers actually did, she knows that she has to start training them to use their powers correctly. What a great book I finished it in two days and I would recommend it to everyone I know.

Ceri might be a teacher; she is also a middle aged woman and a mage
her long struggles for survival in an human and paranormal mixed society includes betrayals by many folks close to her - those she should have been able yo trust their duty to protect her
I was charmed to meet an adorable yet lethal little dragon, and a friend with much greater potential
the saga continues in other books and other stories telling more about fantastic skills and dreams, and devastating losses and betrayals
Ceri’s had to fight for every scrap she’s gotten, that makes her slow to trust and quick to anger. She’s also a mamma grizzly with her cubs and she will do whatever it takes to protect her children. This is a fascinating new world and I badly want to know even more about it. I don’t think I’ve seen magic or paranormal creatures handled in quite this way and the uniqueness is irresistible. There’re some intriguing occurrences by the end of this story that make me positively ravenous to find out what comes next. I received a complimentary copy of this book through Booksprout.
"... Ceridwen Gault. Educator, liar and mage.... Welcome to a day in the life of Ceri Gault, mage extraordinaire....". For so many years Ceri has been able to stay under the magic radar. Now, it's out in the open. What does this mean? Will The family be safe? What has been brought upon them?
This first saga in the series of Midlife Mage is delightful, with unexpected twists and turns. I guarantee you won't want to put the book down!.

This is such a good read! Ceri is our female mc and is also a hidden witch and boy is she having a day!! She is strong, kick ass and her adventures are exciting and fascinating. With incredible world building you find yourself drawn in with the fast paced and thrilling storyline filled with action, drama, magic and twists and turns and relatable and likeable characters. Looking forward to book two.
This is book 1 of Midlife Mage. I really enjoyed this book as it shows the human life mixed with the magic. How there are bosses over the magic in the area. This book has me wanting more. It has all of the mysteries, but it has little clues of needing more information. Which I love that about a book because it helps wanting to read more from the series.

Ceri is a mage concealing her identity from the kin by pretending to be a thin-blood lilim, which helps keep her and her children somewhat safe. Ceri enjoys her role as a high school English teacher for senior students. However, when Ceri's secret is revealed, it leads to much trouble. This story has plenty of action, ending with a cliffhanger. Very highly recommended.

I was pleasantly surprised by this book which I downloaded for free during a stuff your kindle event. This book was a good introduction to the main character Ceri and the different creatures in the world. I would love to continue with this series as I want to know what happens with Ceri and Nick's relationship. There was one thing that annoyed me though and that's the trope that the powerful character is always drained or overworked and cannot perform at their strongest.
I enjoyed this first book of the series. It has a different approach to the midlife magic from other books I’ve read. Unfazed has a middle aged magic wielding woman but there are many other supernatural beings in this novel. I especially like the dragon and I’m looking forward to discovering how Ceri and Nick’s relationship develops. I highly recommend it.
Disclaimer: I received this ebook from StoryOrigin and this is my honest and freely given opinion.

Ceri has spent her life hiding her true self, most especially her magic. Only to have circumstance explode her into plain sight to protect those she loves.
A brilliant new series from master story tellers. Can't wait for the next in the series.

Little slow with the action and everything. Ceri is a very good witch. Follow her journey back into the Supernatural world. What will Nick think when he follows her there?.

Well written and easy to read, this is book one in a new series by L.A. Boruff. With plenty of action, mystery and a bit of magic; it's everything I hoped it would be. Ceri is a witch working as a teacher. The cliffhanger leaves me wanting to read more.
Ceri is a teacher in the mundane world, while she really is a mage- she is in hiding as the different kin hunt and steal her kind and keep them pretty much as slaves. She has a daughter Dara who is in college and a son, Jimmy who goes to the high school Ceri teaches at. She wasn’t well taught in her magecraft because she was captured and then she became pregnant by one of her captors after she already had Dara by her husband who sold her into captivity. I’d like to hurt him.
Nick, is the guy she has been seeing and she finds out that he is kin- a metal smith, svaltalfar. Jimmy’s girlfriend, Liz has been replaced by a fetch. So Ceri goes looking for her, although it isn’t the fetch’s fault. Its clan has sold it. Ceri had been keeping her mage self secret for so long, she never looked at her children as having the gift. Ha.
So many reveals in this book, and I was fascinated by the world that is the book. So cool.
