Coveted by the Centaur #2

The Centaur in My Dreams

Rate this book
I was a princess until my jealous sister betrayed me.

Thrown into a portal, I'm picked up by a fallen centaur patrol.

Here I become embroiled in a cruel and wicked world where centaurs battle the monsters that spew from the broken portal and women are kept in stables and shared by all.

Grimm, the leader of the fallen centaurs, is breathtaking from his human warrior body to the stallion beneath. He is also barbaric, ruthless, and monstrous in deed.

I hide my omega nature, living among them as a drudge.
Yet I cannot forever hide my response nor my growing fascination with the darkest centaur of them all.

Publisher's Note: The Centaur in My Dreams is a dark portal fantasy romance with triggering content including attempted SA, and a flawed hero who makes mistakes on his journey toward claiming his one true mate.

4 Oh, How I Have Fallen Stars ⭐

The Centaur in My Dreams has been my favorite thus far in the series. The reason being that apart from the spicy centaur smut and aphrodisiac cum, there was an actual storyline you could sink your teeth into. It was a cross between Centaur Game of Thrones / Beastly Walkers and Rich Omega Families behaving badly.

When Rebecca presented as an Omega, there wasn't much to rejoice about. From personal experience, her life of dreaming was over, and she was just waiting for a chosen arrogant Alpha to takeover. All was going to plan until she was kidnapped and thrown through a portal.

“Where are we?” I murmur, now docile in his arms.
“The ass end of hell,” he says cheerfully. “Welcome to Dires End.”

Protectors of the land is the pretty title given to Grimm and this band of Fallen Centaurs. The reality is stark and dangerous. As leader, his priority is keeping the lands and the lives of his men safe. Yet, if he secretly yearns for a mate; it's an impossibility for a centaur like himself.

Ooh this is where the situation became interesting. You think Grimm and Rebecca would meet, wham bam, end of story. Ha! It was an exciting surprise that it wasn't. You see Rebecca may have been a Princess in her former life, but now she's been reduced to a commoner in Dires End.

I want to stab him in the heart, or maybe slit his throat. I also want his hands upon me, and it’s difficult to decide which I desire the most.

Chosen women are kept in the Centaur Stables. A means of pleasure and healing for the Centaurs. Funnily enough, Rebecca doesn't make the cut. Pretty much insignificant, except Grimm can't help being drawn to the waif of a woman he'd hardly be attracted to. Well until they both require a much needed exchange…

“Filthy and needy,” he says. “Clench again, my little wench. Encourage your master to rut, and I will rut you well.”

Grimm, you beastly stud. Positively domineering but fair. Makes me want to get my head read because ‘my sex is on fire’ (at the top of my lungs). This story was insane monster smut. It’s not for all, but it was for me!

I loved this story while simultaneously disliking parts of it. Of all the centaur books this author has written, this is by far the best. There's an actual story here, and not just smut! *although the smut is filthy so go in prepared!

This story had plot, character growth, and it wasn't as sploogy as the previous books! It was a much darker side of this world than we've seen before. These centaurs risk their lives almost daily to battle evil creatures who threaten the entire realm. Grimm is their leader, he's brutal, stuck in his ways and a lusty centaur.

Rebecca is a princess. She knows where her life path will take her. Unexpectedly, she thrown into a completely different path and in the sights of Grimm.
I want to stab him in the heart, or maybe slit his throat. I also want his hands upon me, and it’s difficult to decide which I desire the most.
I loved her character arc.
I've been broken down into pieces, ground into dust, and remade again. Pieces were lost during the process, and new ones found their way in.
*Slight spoilers below*

As much as I loved this overall story, I could have done without the multiple scenes of him with ow. Yes, this is before he and Rebecca are together, but she is in his presence, cooking and cleaning for him and the other centaurs.

There was an odd juxtaposition between the fact that these centaur warriors needed these Goddess-blessed women to heal their wounds, yet these women were treated so poorly. They lived in a stable, slept in corrals on the hay, and seem addicted to centaur ejaculate. Many of them have survived horrific tragedies so this stable life feels like they are cared for and of use.
Had a Goddess worshiping herd found me, I’d be living a very different story, one where omegas are cherished and mated to one and only one.
It's not necessary in the centaurs culture to treat women this way, just Grimm's leadership. However, the other reason this book was so good, was Grimm's character arc as well. I really loved Grimm. He goes from a focused warrior tirelessly battling evil, into someone who yearns for a future with Rebecca. He has hopes and dreams and it finally seems those are within reach.

I loved how this story comes full-circle from Grimm's childhood to where they end up living.

I normally really enjoy L.V. Lane’s books, especially this centaur series, and while I liked this one, there were a lot of things I didn’t like about it. The last two centaur books followed a pattern: girl somehow becomes indebted to a centaur, he asks for a month of her time in exchange for his favour, during that time sexiness ensues, they fall in love, they live HEA. The books were predictable, but awesome nonetheless.

This book though was very different. For starters, 19% into the book, all of a sudden it jumps to “one year later”. It’s really bizarre because during that time Grimm and Rebecca apparently have had almost no contact with each other. Also, what I really HATED was that during that time Grimm was sticking his 🍆 in any willing girl. There’s even on the page sex with other women (like DETAILED, more than once, on the page sex). Grimm wasn’t with Rebecca during these times, so he wasn’t cheating, but generally I hate seeing either of the main characters be with other people in books. It ruins the romance for me.

Also, Grimm was really mean to Rebecca, which is another first in an LV Lane book. The men in her books might physically discipline their women, but I’ve never read a book by her where the H is actually abusive to the h. Grimm called Rebecca a “rat” and basically allowed her to be used as a cleaner/slave (which on one occasion involved her being beaten by the slave masters… Grimm knew about this and saw her with a bruise on her cheek after the fact but gave no fucks). Even after he realized she was an omega and they started boning, he still called her “little rat”. Even by the end of the book when they became “Mates” I still didn’t feel the love between Grimm and Rebecca.

What I loved about this book was the smut. No one does that better than LV Lane! She is the QUEEN of smut! I also liked the overall plot.

How I felt reading this AND how I felt once I finished it...

description

Because dangit...I really liked this despite the fact that the hero was indeed a centaur. And not one that shifts into a man. Full blown centaur. I'm still trying to visualize the mechanics...

description

I'm not sure if I need a therapist, holy water or what...but it was hot. What does this say about me? Do I even want to know? Probably not.

Rebecca is a princess that has discovered she is an Omega and her jealous sister throws her into a portal and she ends up a servant at a centaur camp. Centaurs do things very differently than where she came from and it's evident very quickly that she is both disgusted and intrigued by their ways and one centaur in particular...Grim.

Grim is the lord of their group that fights back monsters that come through the portal into their world. He has lived a life of a warrior and slakes his lust in the stables where willing woman give themselves. When he finally SEES Rebecca, he envisions a different future for himself. He discovers Rebecca's dynamic and the two of them find more than just lust.

But Rebecca's world is soon to crash into Grims and they come from different worlds. Will they make it work?

This was really well written with fantastic world building and hierarchies. I enjoyed reading about the secondary characters and I loved both Grim and Rebecca. Grim was possessive and dominant with a kinky streak and Rebecca was feminine and fiery. The only thing that turned me off was the description of Grim with another woman before he noticed Rebecca. However, I think Lane did a good job at explaining to the reader that sex is a integral part of a centaurs existence and once they find a mate, they don't share.

If the whole definitely not a human male and OW before the heroine doesn't bother you, then I definitely recommend this fantasy romance. It has a lot of depth and development and I look forward to seeing more in this world.

In the minority here

I've called L.V. Lane the The Queen of fantasy smut before and I still firmly believe she's one of the best out there. But... that nickname 💀

As long as Lane continues to write her centaur stories, I will read them. I am literally obsessed. The blend of omega and centaur myth *chef's kiss*.
I swear they keep on getting better with every addition.
The only sad thing is now I have to wait for her to write more. (┬┬﹏┬┬)

Wanted to love this one a lot more than I did.

I found the h to be quite dull and repetitive in her inner monologue. Yes hun, we just witnessed in real time that event with your sister, you don't need to inner monologue it multiple times like we don't know the score.

I didn't really get the spark between her and Grimm, they hardly talk at all but are all of a sudden mates? It just didn't work for me at all. I mean the book time jumps a year and you're telling me there couldn't have been some delicious angst? Maybe a bit of alphahole behavior? Some mild cruelty that made you really feel for this h but instead you just get a time jump and no interaction between her and Grimm.

Was really hoping to be more scandalized by the whole fallen centaur thing but they were kind of softies, Grimm especially and besides him fighting he also didn't have much of a personality either.

This is sadly my least favorite of the centaur books. The pacing felt off and nothing happened with the sister we had to hear about all the time which was annoying. I mean that bitch tosses two sisters through a portal and nothing happens to her???

The centaur is with OW prior to getting with the h. Public intimacy is not considered taboo for centaurs
Once the centaur is intimate with the h there is neither cheating, nor sharing. They are faithful and exclusive to each other.
Attempted SA on h (Not by H)
h is physically abused / beaten (Not by H)
Public intimacy.
H spanks h with a crop.
This is a mf romance.

In Ms. Lane's PNR house are many mansions; this story takes place in two we've seen before in Ravished and The Centaur in My Valley: Sweet Monsters. Because the settings, characters, and important lines of action began in those two books, I'm not certain this works as a standalone. Note: We do see Grimm with other women before he falls for Rebecca. Usually this doesn't bother me, but here it was really in-your-face: I don't think we needed to see all his smexy times with them.

This Omegaverse/Fairy Tale/Centaur Erotica mash-up features opposites-attract Human Princess Rebecca and Centaur Leader Grimm. When her evil sister throws her through a portal, Rebecca is taken in by Grimm's herd. The princess turns into a pauper -- leading a harsh life locked in survival-mode -- until one day Grimm looks beyond his "servant's" filth and grime, and realizes he's found a chosen one. But given their different species, classes, and values, are the two really fated mates?

Side Note: I have to confess that it's really difficult for me to read about an animal as part-human: not because of the taboo sex part, but because in real life horses are pets and, as an animal lover, this makes me feel icky. So, in my mind, these centaurs are all human; I skim past the animal descriptions.

Anyway, this book was much more interesting than the earlier ones in large part because it's longer and better developed: the characters are more complex and exhibit growth; and their competing wants and responsibilities create organic tension. Throughout, Rebecca is a strong, likable character actually less ruled by her hormones than many of her ilk. And, as always with this author, the world-building is detailed and inventive.

Unfortunately, while there's a lot to like about this book, it's nearly all in the last third. In fact, I almost DNF'ed a couple of times because Grimm is really unpleasant and Rebecca is treated very poorly by everyone around her -- so much so that later, , I call ret-con. Nothing about this herd's circumstances justifies their turning a young woman into a slave whose name they never bother to learn, who they barely feed (the book says she's "scrawny"), who they beat viciously for "clumsiness," who is made to sleep in the cold, and who only by the magic of fiction they don't work to death. I get that the author wanted to create a "dark" world. Well, then, fine, create one, but don't later dress it up or excuse it or recontextualize it when readers are perfectly capable of swiping back to see that
My body aches from my beating after spilling food in the grand hall. My lip is swollen and throbbing, and my ribs and back ache from the punishment stick the servant master uses on wayward charges, of which I’m apparently one.
Yeah, isn't that just a sweet and nostalgic memory?

Later, however, the book improves and Grimm totally redeems himself. It's hard to discuss it without spoilers, but I really appreciated how the story turned into a metaphor for today's multi-cultural families.

3 1/2 stars. Important lines of actions are left open and the ending hints that we might see a book about another sister. I really hope that one character who is just dropped finds happiness and that another gets what they deserve.

The Centaur in My Dreams was an absolute pleasure to read. L.V. Lane took the ABO trope and twisted it with this book – here, omegas also respond to centaur pheromones, just like they would an alpha. And when they join, things get hot and slick. Have a fan nearby because you will feel the heat!

The MMC is not the hero who saves the FMC; he is dark and ruthless. The FMC is not the wilting violet some omegas are portrayed to be. Their world is barbaric, so check trigger warnings before reading if necessary.

I never knew I needed a centaur story until I read this one, but centaurs have since topped my list of monsters, at least the way Ms. Lane writes them. I will be reading as much of her monster smut as I can get my hands on.

Rebecca is a princess who reveals as an omega and her evil, jealous sister has her thrown into the portal. On the other side, Rebecca is rescued by patrolling Centaurs and put in the stables to be used in any way the centaurs need. She's too smart to be a victim and dirties herself to hide her beauty and her enticing omega scent. She has healing powers and is attracted to the big handsome Centaur stallion known as Grimm and once he sees and scents her, her future is cast. Yes, Grimm and Rebecca will find their HEA, but the path to it is so very hot and exciting with some danger and intrigue along the way. The descriptions of how a centaur mates with a human will grab your imagination and never let go. Read this story and find out all the things, both interesting and scary that Rebecca experiences once she in the world of the centaurs beyond the portal.

Now this is what I call smokin' hot good erotica that not only is of the panty melting kind (definitely of that kind 😳!), but also has an actual and cohesive romance plot to keep it all together and whose willing victim is my romantic heart!

To be honest, I have approached many LVL books in the past, including the first two centaur books in this series, and each time, I could not go beyond the smut (albeit great smut as LVL knows how to write these!) and immerse myself in the books. Hence, I was a little wary to sit down with this one despite glowing reviews from my GR friends. This book was so different and so, so perfect. I am now in awe of LVL's talent. The world building was excellent and vivid. The romance and angst were very well construed and I loved that LVL took the time to explain the complex dynamics between centaurs and chosen ones, the way of life of Dires End and the psychology of its inhabitants. It might sometimes feel repetitious as concepts are explained in different words at different times of the story, but for my part, I was much gratified to be able to digest better the myriad of elements and emotions involved in the societies cohabiting in LVL's magical world.

LVL's writing was magistral in turning the tables on what appeared from the outside looking in as a degrading and obscene environment, and instead brought actual pragmatism and compassion to the harsh circumstances to which Dires End people have devoted themselves to. More than that, towards the end of the book, she also introduced welcomed society changes e.g. it became less taboo for women to show their own desires towards their males.

The smut was hot and graphical decadence 🥵. The size and form difference did not deter me at all, au contraire 😳😍. Of course, this is fiction, and everything is totally possible *fans self*. The only bit that was a bit sketchy for me to conceptualise is the whole saddle contraption - though sounding very hot, it does seem requiring a bit too much mechanical engineering that would in my sense reduce a bit the intimacy feeling. But that does not seem to deter any centaurs or willing omegas in this book 😁!

About the characters themselves, I liked Rebecca's character development. I loved the insights into her thoughts as she evolved. 1st person POV was excellently used here. Concerning the H, I think I am well in love with Grimm. For a fellow who believes himself to be rough and savage, he came across as so considerate and tender towards Rebecca, even before he discovered she was a princess. He already had plans to mate her and retire from his duties. He refused to share her with the others, even if he did not have the words to express his feelings. I don't feel that he ever acted as a monster to her, even when he was keeping his distance. And once he decided himself to come after her, oh my... He actually freely let go of his pride and knelt! I swear that I melted into a puddle right there 😍. And then, he gave her time, not wanting to break the delicate equilibrium between them. He was a total gentleman, always looking for her comfort first and asking her consent. So much, that even Rebecca admitted that she did not like the new inequality between them. Eventually, they evened out their relationship, and I would love to read more on how they fare together.

*sigh* 100% recommended for discerning smut readers who also like to swoon on romantic angst perfectly written. A thousand kudos to LVL!

P.S. This would make a great movie imho.

Who cries while reading a book about a gruff and demeaning centaur? Oh, that would be me.

Can I give this 10 stars?? This is now my favorite book! I have liked and loved many books but this one is an easy favorite.

The smex 🤤, the relationship 🥰 and the story are all 10s!

As someone who hate, hate, hates miscommunication tropes there is a little in here but I actually loved it! They are adults about it and it never seems childish.

Hot, steamy, soft angst. Did I say steamy? This was off the charts. I had to look up a picture of a centaur to understand how the story worked. Total fantasy, and I enjoyed every dark page.

Princess kicked out by her jealous sister and becomes a servant in the new world she’s thrown into. She meets the head guy but he ignores her until she is the only one to take care of him after endless days of defending the gates.

Girlllllll this book was purely a spice book only, small plot but only crazy spice that you just can’t put down cause life is crazy out there in the portal. I did like both of the characters a lot and honestly enjoyed the story too! Enough of a consent king that I fell for him even with his crazy environment.

LOVE This Series - Keep 'em Coming!

This was a great addition to the Coveted Prey series. A little darker, a little grittier, and I was here for it!

I love the interconnected /interwoven worlds LV has built in the Coveted Prey world...so many facets and so much to discover.

The steam was STEAMY and the romance was there underneath the hard and gruff exterior of the MMC and hidden by the FMC.

Yup, you want to read this one!

It was my second book about centaurs and it was a definitely not the same take as in The Centaur in My Forest.

I love this author's writing, it was smooth here but kinda weirdly paced. The 1-year-jump felt waaay too long. The extreme harshness toward the women (who were giving them healing of all things!!) felt absolutely unnecessary, even in the circumstances of the book; tell me whatever but it wasn't justified and felt like an artificially added violence for the sake of kink probably.

The relationship development in the middle was too short for me. It did get better later in the book and I loved how their characters grew but somehow it was a little off and a little repetitive, especially when the heroine went on and on remembering her princess past and her evil sister. In the end, that part of the conflict wasn't even resolved in any meaningful way.

The smut was good though. Kinky and hot. Probably not for everyone. :)

I cannot stress enough how much my dark romance heart leapt for joy after reading The Centaur in my Dreams . L.V. Lane stuck close to the original centaur myths and stories, which made my Greek mythology obsessed self extremely happy. These were the brutal centaurs of old, fighting and "having fun" with absolute abandon day and night. They cannot afford to make attachments or dream of finding love, not when they fight the monsters of the portal. This especially holds true to Grimm, the Commander of Dires End, who is the most ruthless of all. Grimm is centaur perfection - brutal, massive, and full of lust. I loved every page of this book, especially when Grimm faces his equal in the lowly servant Rebecca. And I can only hope that Liv gives us more from this centaur world.

I love a centaur book by this author and can I just say she has hit it out of the park yet again 🖤 I loved every minute of it.

I think this might be my favourite out of all the Centaur books because Grimm is just everything all wrapped into 1 big hulking male 😍

The story of Rebecca is so sad but seeing how she overcomes everything to be the person she is supposed to be and with the male she is fated to love is incredible.

There is some darkness to this story 🖤 I was addicted to everything about this book from the first few pages, I just needed to know what happens. The plot is amazing and written really well, and flows effortlessly.

The spice is hot hot hot 🥵🥵

This is a dark MF Centaur Omegaverse book and if you’ve never tried Centaur spice before go read this trio of books you won’t regret it 🖤

The Centaur in My Dreams is another Centaur omegaverse book by L.V. Lane set in the Coveted Prey Universe. Here, we meet the fallen centaurs whose job is protecting the lands from the monsters who enter through the portal. They live a brutal violent existence and don't often take mates but rather share the women who live in their stables. After being betrayed and dumped through the portal by her jealous sister, Rebecca is snatched up by centaur patrol and brought to their fortress. Desperate to avoid the fate of being shared, she disguises her looks and omega nature and works as a servant. Grimm, the leader of the fallen centaurs, can't help but be reluctantly intrigued by the girl he calls rat. I really enjoyed this spicy yet also emotional tale. There was surprising depth to the characters and, as always, excellent world building. Overall, a great addition to the series!

- FMC: Rebecca
- MMC: Grimm
- POVs Included: Dual POVs (Rebecca, Grimm)

-----------------------------------
-----------------------------------
SUMMARY: (SPOILER WARNING)

After Rebecca (a princess from Hydornia) reveals as an omega, her parents have plans to marry her off to a prominent alpha. Her jealous sister, Elisa (a beta) pushes her through a broken portal to get rid of her. And she finds herself in a brutal land known as Dires End.

At Dires End, warrior centaurs guard the wall that separates the lands beyond from the lands where the broken portal is. Because monsters are always spilling through the portal ready for battle.

Life isn't easy for Rebecca. As a servant she is the lowest of low. But she has her sights set on the warrior leader -- Grimm. Despite his rough edges, she is drawn to him in ways she can't explain. And when he finally notices her too, their fate as mates is sealed.

REVIEW:

Of the centaur books in this series, I liked this one the best. I still don't really like the centaur books in this series very much. But this one was better than the other two.

I liked how it was a different setup than the other two centaur books in the series. It's not a moon debt (again), but rather the romance between Rebecca and Grimm is more slow burn (over the course of several years).

I liked Rebecca. She was a good blend of internal strength and knowing her limits. I liked how she handled things. Series-connection-wise, Rebecca is Rosalind's (from Ravished) younger sister.

I also liked Grimm. Some might not like that he does have sex with other women before he is with Rebecca. But because of the situation, it didn't bother me very much. Firstly, because they weren't together yet, and as soon as they are, he is completely faithful to her. Secondly, they have sex with omegas for many reasons, but one of the most important is that it gifts them with healing after battle. And that's pretty necessary. So these scenes didn't bother me for these reasons.

I also loved how all the stable girls were united instead of cruel and competitive with each other. They were all so nice. Especially Summer. And I'm happy she also got a mate by the end of this.

I do hope that Frederick will get a book. I did look into it and I think he is one of the MMC's in The Coveted Beta (book #20 in the series). I hope it ends with a HEA for him. He's such a good guy.

Overall the book was decent. I really am not a fan of the centaur books in this series though and I hope she's done with them. I'd much rather have more alpha/omega RH's from this series.

This is a much darker book than LV Lane's other Centaur books, but it is entirely fitting given that the book is about Grimm, leader at Dire's End, which was introduced in the previous book.
Grimm is dark and unforgiving, but I really loved his character.
Rebecca is a princess not really certain or happy with her lot in life, who is thrust into the world at Dire's End, and only through hiding in plain sight does she keep herself safe. Of course this doesn't last very long, and once she catches Grimm's eye, her path is set.
I loved the relationship development between Rebecca and Grimm, her struggles with accepting her burgeoning feelings for him, and his own struggle with the change that Rebecca's arrival to his life would mean.
The story arc is wonderful, and the character development was amazing to watch.
LV Lane delivers her signature steam in this book, with my glasses fogging up for most of this read.

This book contains scenes where a main character is intimate with other people, before the relationship starts - so if that's an ick for you, be forewarned.

DNF 50% (I will be cursing…)

I love a good monster smut/romance, but at least make the FMC and MMC likeable.
I tried to get into the smut in every damn centaur book of their‘s and it‘s just not good ._. probably because I didn‘t like the centaurs in neither of those three books (I guess they‘re supposed to have a dom personality but it‘s just so bad. Treated their women like a bunch of c*m-dumpsters)
And btw; I get omegas can‘t control their urges when in presence of an alpha (I think?), but damn is it frustrating/ sad to read the FMC brainlessly pining after the dude (while also kinda hating him?) to just accepting him SA and r*ping her (just out of the blue? No protest?!)

In short; downright annoying and dumb characters, not a good romance, the centaurs are just plain as*holes (straight up nothing to like about them at all, f*ck em), not worth to read for the ,,smut“. God is this stupid.

YES!!!!

Every book in this series is soooo good!! I absolutely loved this book. Rosalind’s sister, Rebecca is betrayed and finds herself with centaurs!!!! If you’ve read others in the series, you already met rough and dominant Grimm. Whew!!🔥🔥🔥🔥🌶🌶🌶. Your kindle is going to be on fire.

I really enjoyed this.

Did I love Rebecca all the time? Absolutely not. Something about her annoyed me at times but she was also quite resilient considering her circumstances. I feel like she didn’t communicate nearly enough and lived in her head.

Grimm was growly and alpha. He wasn’t the nicest but then turned it around.

I enjoyed the plot twists and the flow of the book.
