Sarah: She’s twenty years old adventurous, stubborn and very beautiful. Sarah and her mother had just finished entertaining another one of her many suitors and she’s bored to death. She now knows for sure she has to move away. The big question is to where and how. At the local general store the following day, Sarah stumbles upon a copy of the “Matrimonial Times” publication and takes it home with her. Therein, she comes across the many ads from eligible bachelors from the west. She answers one of them and a gentleman in Bellevue, Nebraska replies and a correspondence is established.
Gilbert: He’s thirty years old, hardworking and runs a successful hotel in Bellevue. He came to America when he was only twenty years old from Ireland determined to become a success and he had. He feels it’s time he gets married and settles down. He discusses the issue with his long time friend and butler Arthur, who advices him to get a mail order bride. He posts his ad and a young lady in Missouri answers. He proposes marriage, she agrees and she’s soon on her way to Nebraska.
For Sarah and Gilbert it was love at first sight, and they get married the day after her arrival. On the following day tragedy strikes. Gilbert slips and falls down the stairs in his hotel and dies leaving behind a grieving young widow. Determined to continue with his legacy, Sarah decides to stay.
Will Sarah find her Happily Ever After, after all?
This book was touching in many ways. Sarah was forced to leave home after her father remarried. His new wife wanted his undivided attention, so she insisted his daughter either married someone he chose or chose a husband for her self. Read the story to see the outcome of her search.
Normally I enjoy Ms. Lynne’s short mail order bride books. Short, sweet and generally well written. This one, however, fell short.
It’s 1880. Why did Sarah have to take a wagon train to Nebraska? There were trains by then. Also, why would it take four months for a wagon train to go just two states over, and with no mountains?
Why did Sarah scream in anger at Bryce when they ran into each other? She had no idea that he was Arthur’s nephew, so he could have very well been a customer staying at her hotel…
Why on earth was there a “problem” with her remarrying? She was a widow! She wasn’t divorced! Why did people look down on them for marrying? Being widowed and remarrying is not shameful at all.
This is a sweet and heartwarming story of a Sarah, a young woman who wants adventure in her life and seeks out and accepts an offer to become a MOB to Gilbert a hotel owner in Nebraska. Shortly after she arrives, by wagon train, in Nebraska and she and Gilbert marry, he suffers an accident and dies leaving her a widow. A new man, Bryce, is brought in to assist Sarah in running the hotel. As the couple work together, feelings begin to grow between them. Will these feelings grow into a HEA? Be sure and read this short, but sweet story to find out. I know you will enjoy it as much as I did.
Kat Lynne has done it again. This book was very well written. Sarah is tired of the men In Kanas City and is looking for adventure in life. So she answers an ad for a bride. Gilbert is a hotel owner in Nebraska look for a bride. They marry shortly after Sarah arrives there. The morning after Sarah fines herself a widow. Gilbert slipped a fell down the stairs. Sarah is heart broken by this. Gilbert’s butler steps in and takes control until his nephew, Bryce, shows up to take control of the hotel. After Bryce, shows up well things change. Need to read this book to see what happens.
It was a good read, but contained parts that I didn't like or understand. First, if the author is going to kill a character off, I don't want to get to know him that well. Second, Sarah thought, "The only problem had been that she was still a married woman." She went on to say that the lawyer said v that she would have to have her marriage dissolved How? Her husband was dead. There was no doubt about that. A marriage ends at death "until death parts us." She was a widow and therefore free to remarry.
I thought the book title was very misleading as there was not much about a wagon train in this book. the book has more to deal with regarding Gilbert's hotel.
