After decades of civil war, La Fuerza is on the run in Mexico, the communist guerrilla army seemingly on its last legs. Sergeant Seamus O’Malley was a big reason for their current ill-fortune, and the veteran private contractor now has a huge price on his head. He’s given an easy executive protection job in remote Cancún, but he isn’t happy about his new “babysitting” assignment.
The war rages on, sparking the worst wildfires the country has ever seen. The descendants of the genetically engineered animals once filling Pangaea, the former dinosaur park, are forced by the fires to flee throughout Mexico, causing chaos.
In the midst of this, La Fuerza struggles for a victory, for its very existence, and its brutal soldiers are willing to do whatever it takes to get a win. A mercenary with a bounty on his head and the billionaire’s daughter he protects seem like easy targets.
Past the oblivious tourists and bright lights, Cancún is an island of civilization surrounded by jungle and death. It’s holding its breath, waiting for the worst to happen.
There’s trouble in paradise, and Seamus O’Malley couldn’t be happier.
This is another excellent novel by James Tarr! This is a novel about dinosaurs, about Mexican civil war and about adventure in a time of change. The heroes are intense and numerous. The action is fast paced and very well thought out. The book was extremely hard to put down. I hope James writes more in this series.
Tarr's is work is every bit enthralling as Stephen Hunter and his contemporaries. I find his books well written, factually accurate and nicely editted. Mistakes so greatly detract from a story and you will not find any with this author. I have read almost every book and magazine article he's written and totally enjoyed every one.
Well done, but missing the bit of magic to earn five stars. Still, highly entertaining and imaginative. The author also has better skills in naming military equipment than the clowns in DC.
And that's saying something. I was happy to see many of the characters in the 1st book, in this one. Thankfully whiney Roger was only briefly mentioned. Lots of action and of course, Seamus was his incorrigible self.
It’s book two and just a good as book 1. This series has lots of action and is very well researched to give it authenticity. Like to story like the characters it has guerrillas and soldiers and dinosaurs so pretty much petfect
