Poppy lives a charmed life. From the outside she's the wife of a wealthy senator, wearing jewels and designer clothes. Other people don't know she lives in the dark. Her husband is a monster in a bespoke suit.
Then Ronan Byrne shows up on their marble doorstep, armed and dangerous. He sees through her calm, cultured facade to the fear underneath.
He's determined to help her, whether she wants it or not.
"M. O’Keefe brings her A-game in this sexy, complicated romance where you’re left questioning if everything you thought was true!” - New York Times bestselling author K. Bromberg
Dark Hearts is a boxed set that contains three full-length novels: Ruined, Broken, and Untamed by bestselling and award-winning author M. O'Keefe.
I read and reviewed these books separately. I would highly recommend this addition to the Midnight Dynasty interconnected world.
Stolen Hearts 4.5 stars
I live for the books that can suck me in from the first moment and not let me go. This was one of those books. It grabbed me by the neck and it hurt to both read and breathe. I thought I had it figured out with the whole young girl marrying someone older to help her and her sister out of a precarious situation. This was that but it was so much more than that. There is a mystery at play here. The author leaves you wondering who can be trusted, who is a friend, and what is the purpose or motivation behind what is happening.
I sure wondered about the motivations, especially when it came to Caroline, a friend that could have saved her from all of this. Especially, in light of what she witnesses Poppy going through. It is a bitter pill to swallow, but everyone, Caroline included, seems to have a reason for doing what they are doing and that ups the mystery even more. Poppy's sister, Zilla is also a mystery, but perhaps, the biggest mystery and unknown is Ronan. I loved the first meeting between Poppy and Ronan. The bantering was delightful and edgy. When he is reintroduced, I have my concerns. Is he good? Is he bad? Is he just someone Caroline is using? These questions really come to light when the book ends on a cliffhanger. April seems to be forever away as I wait to get those answers.
This is the first time reading this author but it will not be my last. I did struggle with Poppy a bit because I wanted her to see what Zilla and Ronan were telling her about not being so naive or easily manipulated. However, I have a funny feeling that the author is going to give this girl a spine and she is going to become fierce after so many years of being beaten down.
Broken Hearts Sweet Holiest of Titfires...
This book... This first book had me on pins and needles but this one takes the cake. It picked up right where the last one left off and kept on going. I was so caught up in the story, the push and pull between Poppy and Ronan, and the mystery of what had brought them to where they were now that I am surprised that I even remembered to breathe.
This book brought more of Ronan's backstory to the forefront and explained a lot as to why he considered himself a monster. That isn't to say that Poppy took a backseat because she didn't. In fact, she no longer was meek or naive. This experience had definitely given her a backbone. For a large part of the story, it was about healing and trying to understand the other. It was missing part of the action but the suspense was still there. I am glad that the author did this because it made the story more authentic considering that recoup and healing time were needed considering how the last book ended. It would have not been as credible if Poppy and Ronan went about this new portion of her life while searching for answers if she had been at death's door.
The action picked up at the end and caused a very unlikely scenario to happen. The twist was one that I didn't see coming. It ended on a cliffhanger of what is to come in the last book. I can already tell that it is going to be intense. I am here for it because the unanswered mysteries and the anticipation of Ronan and Poppy coming together (no pun intended) have me waiting on bated breath. I just read this book and already I am clamoring for the conclusion. This is definitely a trilogy that I will be rereading back to back once they are all three out. I can only imagine the parts of the story that I missed in my frenzied state to flip the pages as fast as I could to find out what is going on.
Untamed 4.5 stars
Whoever thought of this Midnight Dynasty interacting series deserves all the accolades because each book, although different, keeps building up the characters so that they jump off the pages. I find myself invested in every single character(well, except Caroline and Bryant). This book was just another amazing example of how well this series is.
Since Poppy and Ronan were first introduced there has been this palpable chemistry between the characters. They were dynamic in their own write but they were magic together. Things have been building for a while and finally seeing it come to fruition in this book was EVERYTHING. I loved watching the characters grow into themselves. For Poppy, it was an inner strength that I admired. She was no longer timid and kowtowed. For Ronan, it was seeing him realize the potential that he had as someone other than a monster. Seeing him learn to trust and experience the joy of love was powerful and reminded me that even love can grow in the darkest and most unlikely of places; like a flower on a sidewalk. The smexy times... especially that first scene... yeah, FIRE.
The whole "secret" and cause of this whole trilogy left me feeling a little lackluster because it just seemed to have more power than it should have in my opinion. However, I was okay with it because, for me, the story quit being as much about the Constantines versus the Morellis and more about Poppy and Ronan and their journey to love. It was great having some cameos of other characters from the other authors. I look forward to the few remaining books in this Midnight Dynasty collection. It truly is phenomenal how well these authors have worked together to keep the characters and storylines consistent.
Dark Hearts is the complete trilogy containing 3 full length novels Ruined, Broken and Untamed and is another fantastic addition to the feuding Constantine/Morelli Midnight Dynasty world. This is Poppy and Ronan's story, one filled with drama, suspense, secrets, complex characters, twists and turns and excellent chemistry. It was interesting seeing how these two evolve over the course of the story and I enjoyed going on this intense journey with them. Your heart will break for Poppy with all she's gone through but I loved that she never gave up. I loved that Ronan protected her at all costs. Their hea was not an easy one but they fought for it. This novel was fast paced and highly entertaining. I enjoyed it and would recommend it to lovers of dark romance.
Molly O’Keefe is one of a handful of authors that truly scare me! Well, her mind scares me. The stories this woman comes up with sometimes are just *blink* and I absolutely love her for it! Especially when she just as easily can write the most heartfelt small-town sunny-side-up story! She is so masterful at her craft that anything she pens is absolute magic and she can pen it ALL!! #TRUTH
The story of Poppy & Ronan will not only keep you on your toes for the entire trilogy, but also have sooooo many twisted circumstances that you just might find yourself a little scared for them! You know that saying about the fine line between love and hate and whatnot … well, Molly so masterfully blurred the line between good and evil that it was almost nonexistent in this journey. Everything from character development to story development to whatever else you can think of was just full of suspense and had my heart in my throat more times than I can count. The story starts out strong right out of the gate with Ruined and continues to build powerfully thru Broken and just exploded in Untamed, and the epilogue, well that was just magic *heart eyes*
If you haven’t read any of the stories that surround the warring Morelli and Constantine families, this is a fantastic place to begin! I highly recommend any story in the Midnight Dynasty world crafted by many different talented authors. You can start anywhere you like but click here if you’re a bit OCD like me and like to begin worlds at the most beginning place possible!
Ronan and Poppy's story was full of action and surprises and danger. The middle has them on the run, like a break from the chaos, though. And she kind of warms his cold heart. Interestingly, they don't go all the way til the final book, but it's not a slow burn. These two are drawn to each other from the start. And I love how their story connects with all the others. Ronan was a bad guy in other books I read. But I fell in love with him, he deserved all the love.
Dark Hearts is the Box Set of Ronan & Poppy's journey so you don't even have to wait for the next book like I did because the cliffhangers were absolutely mean LOL!
Ruined (Book 1) I'm very conflicted about Stolen Hearts honestly, and I really can't put my finger on one thing that I can't deal with. It's the story of Poppy & Ronan, both have a dark past that keeps the demons along for the ride. I'm not sure how I feel about Poppy because sometimes she was just too naive? I don't know, but I was still cheering her on at the same time. Ronan is an enigma to me because I don't feel like there was enough about him other than the surface but it could just be me. I do know that I'm intrigued since I feel like there are holes that could be filled in when the next book comes out.
Broken (Book 2) I'm still conflicted on this journey, but it's not a cliff I'll die on because there's more to the story. Ronan & Poppy are tortured souls who can be their own worst enemy. I do see why now since there's more of learning about what made them aspect which was way emotional of course, and then there's the whole trying to keep her safe part that provides action & a few twists which sets us up for the conclusion quite nicely, and it looks like it will be an explosive ride to get the heart racing.
Untamed (Book 3) The first two books were conflicting to me since I wasn't so sure of Ronan throughout this journey while Poppy came off almost too naïve, but I should have never doubted M. O'Keefe whatsoever because she leveled up this round as I fell for Ronan, and Poppy came into her own. There's a lot going on with twists coming in hot, revelations, outside forces not being nice, a ton of heat, and a marriage between them to protect or and maybe just maybe more at the end of the day. He's ready to take his enemies out while she just wants him so you already know that things are going to hit the fan as they had for the US from Ireland. I'm telling you that this conclusion was off the charts explosive so it totally deserved more than a measly 5 stars at the end of the day.
The Conclusion to this journey was so fantastic that I wanted to give it more than 5 stars despite my conflicted feelings throughout the first two so I totally give this box set 5 stars and HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND!
DARK HEARTS by M. O'Keefe is a trilogy of books set in the Midnight Dynasty World. The Constantine and Morelli families are engaged in a bitter battle which spans generations. There are many casualties, tons of collateral damage, and some surprising love matches made during this epic family fued. This particular trilogy focuses on Poppy and Ronan, two lost souls caught up in a bloody war which neither started.
RUINED is the story of Poppy Maywell, a cousin of the Constantine family and Ronan Byrne, a mysterious Irishman who crosses her path on the night of her engagement party. Their quick and intense attraction for each other is absolutely undeniable. It is a complex story filled with smokey layers and intrigue. The swift moving plot never lacks for action or suspense.
BROKEN, the second installment of the Hearts Trilogy is every bit as dark and intense as its predecessor. Ronan is ever vigilant over Poppy and his dark past. He is still stone cold with a heart that beats only for Poppy. M. O'Keefe has done an excellent job of building the suspense of Ronan's past and Poppy's future. The heat generated by this second book is also high on the thermometer.
UNTAMED is the perfect ending for Poppy and Ronan's story. Their commitment and love for each other is unshakeable even if they are hesitant to admit it to each other. They way they come together to battle the Morellis and Constantines so that they may find peace and a life together is what romance is all about. M. O'Keefe has given us two characters who become better versions of themselves because they are fighting for each other.
DARK HEARTS is a modern classic that captures the reader's attention and holds it throughout. The angst, the heat, and heart-rending drama combine to keep one on the edge. There is a constant balancing of anxiety and anticipation for the next sweet respite from this Constantine - Morelli War. M. O'Keefe has opened and unforgettable trilogy wrapped in the most gorgeous of covers.
The Dark Hearts trilogy tells us the complete complex, heartbreaking, touching love story of Ronan (Caroline Constantine’s “bulldog”) and Poppy. Poppy is this sweet, scared, naive girl who sees herself in a bad situation and has to follow a difficult path to survive the best she can. She meets Ronan in one of the most difficult moments of her life and some years later they meet again. Throughout the three books we witness Poppy growing into a stronger woman who never loses her hope and Ronan showing he has much more to offer than his criminal skills. You can expect angsty, wonderful side characters, a tortured hero, the evilness of Caroline and Bryant and, of course, a deserved HEA. Now you can have this complete trilogy in one place. Enjoy! I know I did!
*** I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own. ***
Ronan is a mystery, a stranger, when Poppy firsts meets him at her engagement party. But Poppy does not see him again for 2 years and by that time she has been altered, changed, ruined. Ruined was gripping, exciting and so fantastic I could not put it down! Oh my goodness the twists in this book were shocking and not at all what I expected! Ronan and Poppy and all things Morelli and Constantine are gripping and captivating!! This finale to M. O’Keefe’s trilogy was absolutely astounding and breathtaking and so very perfect. This couple revealed some very key secrets in this Midnight Dynasty World but it also created more questions about these warring families. Sensational ending to this couple but I hope to see more of them in the future 💕
I loved this story ever since I read about Poppy and Ronan in an anthology last year. I knew then I would have to have the rest of their story.
M. O'Keefe is a new to me author I was introduced to and her writing style combined with intriguing characters is why I'll be checking out her backlog!
Give me a Constantine/Morelli book and I'm in heaven and binging a book (3 in this case!) through the night until I'm done.
Ronan and Poppy are an unlikely pair that I just couldn't help but love. You'll get the Morelli's and Constantine's in this book although they aren't family members of either.
Poppy is a family friend and Ronan is the 'fixer' for Caroline Constantine.
This book had me all over the place with my emotions and holding my breath with anticipation.
I am grateful to the author for moving away from the BDSM and Age-gap theme of the entire dynasty. For me it's the best trilogy in the series. It surpassed Winston, Father Magnus and Satan's Triplets. It was my first time with the author and I loved the writing. Thank you so much Mrs. M. O'Keef
This was an amazing trilogy. I hadn't read the original story when it was first released but it was so much better being able to read them back to back. I literally could not put it down. Poppy and Ronan were fire!
I received a copy of this book from the publisher/author to review for Stephanie's Book Reports.
Poppy lives a charmed life. From the outside she's the wife of a wealthy senator, wearing jewels and designer clothes. Other people don't know she lives in the dark. He husband is a monster in a bespoke suit. Then Ronan Bryne shows up on their marble doorstep, armed and dangerous. He sees through her calm, cultured façade to the fear underneath. He's determined to help her weather she wants it or not.
This is a boxset that contains three full length novels. Ruined. Broken, and Untamed. I have never read this series and I was shocked by that because I am not ashamed to admit that I am a Constantine/Morelli junkie and thought I had read all the book that included an of the characters in those two families. This is a dark romance and it will contains triggers for some readers. You will want to heed the warning in the beginning of the book.
Ruined is a slow burn of a story where you will meet and fall in love with Poppy all while your heart is breaking for her. She is married to a senator and while it looks like she has the perfect life of riches an fancy dresses and shoes, jewels and everything you could ever want. However that isn't the real life that she lives by a long shot. Everything she does she does to protect her sister and that landed her in the hands of a real monster!!! Then along comes Ronan who sees the princess she wants him to see but also he can see the fear in her eyes and interactions. She immediately draws his attention and it's not going to take you long to really love him too.
Broken picks up where we left off in Ruined and thank goodness I had all these books right in one place in my hands or I might have had a fit. Ronan is a man who hasn't had an easy life and we get to learn so much more about that in this book. He is a man though that is going to keep Poppy save not matter the cost and I tell you I was on the edge of my seat a lot while reading these books.
Untamed is the final book and holy cow what a series this is. Ronan and Poppy are going back to Bishops Landing and they are going there together to face the demons of their past. Ronan is a dark soul and is ruthless and the man that Poppy loves but she knows that Ronan doesn't love her and never will. He is a man who is haunted and really doesn't believe in love. His main concern isn't love it is keeping Poppy safe. That's his main concern but will Poppy be able to get her man and figure out what family she really belongs to? So much to unpack and what a thrilling time it was to unpack it all. This is a series that you do not want to miss. There is just no way you don't fall in love with Poppy and Ronan and turn these pages as fast as you can. Thank goodness as I have said that I had all the stories in one book too. That's a huge bonus when your addicted to a series like I was to this one. Also if you a Constantine/Morelli obsessed reader like me and you too haven't read this one then you are going to love it. Poppy and Ronan have stolen my heart and I do not want it back at all
This is a dark romance and it will contains triggers for some readers. You should heed the warning in the beginning of the book. This is a boxset that contains three full length novels. Ruined. Broken and Untamed. I really enjoyed this trilogy. This is my first read by M. OKeefe.
Ruined is a slow burn of a story where you will meet and fall in love with Poppy, at the same time your heart will break for her. She is married to a senator and on the outside it looks like she has the perfect life of riches, fancy clothes, jewels and everything anyone could ever want. However, that isn't her real by a long shot. Everything she does is to protect her sister and that landed her in the hands of a real monster, her husband. Then along comes Ronan who sees the princess she wants him to see but can also see the fear in her eyes and actions. She immediately draws his attention and it's not going to take you long to fall in love with him too. Ronan is determined to help her, whether she wants it or not.
The second book Broken, picks up where we left off in Ruined. Ronan is a man who hasn't had an easy life and we learn so much more about that in this book. He is a man that is going to keep Poppy safe, no matter the cost and honestly I was on the edge of my wheelchair seat a lot while reading these books.
Untamed is the final book and what a series this is, it’s fantastic. Ronan and Poppy are going back to Bishops Landing together to face the demons of their pasts. Ronan is a dark soul and is ruthless. Ronan is the man that Poppy loves, but she knows that he doesn't love her back and he never will. Ronan is a man who is haunted and therefore doesn’t believe in love. His main concern is keeping Poppy safe. Clearly, all good things come to those who wait, fight and hope because that’s exactly what Poppy and Ronan needed most. The will to fight, the ability to hope and the trust to love. But when all their secrets are revealed, Poppy and Ronan managed the unthinkable, they saved each other, themselves and their future together. So, while these two found their forever in a slightly more unconventional manner, they fought for and earned it and also earned all the beauty that came with it. So much emotional baggage to unpack and it was really a thrilling ride to unpack it all.
I adored how Poppy never gave up through this entire series. Ronan played it so utterly hot and cold that I have whiplash with Poppy, but there’s definitely something more to him. It doesn’t help that Ronan is very much a hot and cold person, he is angry with those who seem kind, he is angry with life in general and yet oh so attractive. This is a series that you do not want to miss. There is just no way you won’t fall in love with Poppy and Ronan. Poppy and Ronan have definitely stolen my heart. I highly recommend you check out this series.
Oh boy. So you’ve probably met the Constantine family. But let me tell you, mommy is even nastier and more manipulative than I’d originally thought. First up, she’s just awful. She uses and allows Poppy to be abused in so many ways. But she’s not done playing her games to get ahead. And so many others are using Poppy also. Who can she trust? Is there even a soul worthy of trust and loyalty from her? Ronan plays it so utterly hot and cold that I have whiplash with Poppy, but there’s got to be something more to him. So the first book in this series builds the mystery, the secrets, the strong possibility that there are many more lurking in every shadow, and yet I’m hooked. And I need more. So I continue on this road with Poppy, trying to figure out which end is up and which path is safe. So we plow onward toward book two….
It just keeps getting worse for Poppy, I swear. Shot, whisked away to an unknown land in the middle of the night, in hiding, tied up with Ronan’s secrets and rejection, scared for her sister and even herself. It’s quite the pickle. It doesn’t help that Ronan is very much hot and cold, angry with those who seem kind, angry with life in general, and oh so attractive to Poppy. And Ronan wants Poppy with every fiber of his being, but he can’t have her. He won’t let himself. Until they have no choice. But even then, is this more of a claiming for love or protection? As the secrets leak out, more await them in NYC, more danger is coming for them, and even more betrayals are heading their way.
I’m not sure how they’ll get out of this mess, but I have a few hopes. And fears. And maybe some ideas? We’ll see….
Clearly, all good things come to those who wait. And fight. And hope. And fight some more. Because that’s exactly what Poppy and Ronan need most now. The will to fight, the ability to hope, and the trust to love. One already does. The other is trying to hide from it because it’s foreign. But when the secrets are all laid out, these two manage the unthinkable. They save each other, themselves, and their future. And finally, the monster is allowed to rest and become a man once more.
I adored how Poppy never gave up through this entire saga. She may have seemed innocent and naive, but she learned fast. And she didn’t forget her lessons. She used them to twist her teachers to do her bidding and to keep Ronan safe. All while Ronan used all that he’d been raised to be to do the same in return. So while these two found their forever in a slightly unconventional manner, they fought for and earned it, as well as all the beauty that comes with it.
The Dark Hearts boxset is Molly's 'Hearts' trilogy repackaged into one, easy e-book. So no having to wait to find out what happens after each of the cliff-hangers, and no forgetting what happened in the previous book whilst waiting for the next!
DH is centred around Ronan Byrne, Caroline Constantine's hired gun from the Midnight Dynasty world, and Poppy, the daughter of Caroline's old friend.
The best thing about rereading books is that you pick up on so many details that you missed the first time round. Like, the fact that this trilogy was loosely inspired by the tale of Little Red Riding Hood! I completely missed those references when I first read it and had always wondered which fairy-tale it was supposed to be linked to lol
Book One -Ruined: 4* Intriguing with complex chemistry between Ronan and Poppy. Ronan is mysterious and whilst it's obvious he should probably stay away from Poppy, it's understandable why he can't keep away from this cute, newly freed bird as she learns to leave her gilded cage.
Book 2 - Broken: 3.8* Ronan is still doing his best to deny the attraction between him and Poppy. I loved the little angsty scenes whenever he was deliberately cruel to her, but I also liked how we get to see Poppy develop and slowly come out of the shell that she retreated into during her 2 years of marriage. She's not quite there yet, but we are definitely getting to see glimpses of what's to come.
Book 3 - Untamed: 4* An action packed ending to the trilogy with us getting to see Poppy shed the naivety she once had about those around her and Ronan finally finding a place to truly belong. It also left me wanting to see more from Jacob and Zilla!
I actually think i enjoyed the trilogy more the second time around. Whilst I did enjoy it the first time I read the books, I felt the chemistry more between Ronan and Poppy this time and was more invested in the actual story itself.
*ARC received in exchange for an honest review.
TW: assault, past trauma, gun/violence. This book touches on darker themes, please heed any trigger warnings the author may have attached to the books/series.
*The Dark Hearts trilogy is a part of the wider Midnight Dynasty world, but can be read as a standalone within itself. Books 1 and 2 end on cliffhanger's.
Poppy our main FMC age 20 was finding a place to escape her engagement party, one that Caroline Constantine had set up with a US Senator Poppy wasn't a Constantine by birth but Caroline was her godmother and as per her usual using Poppy as much as a pawn as she tried to with her own children, and niece. Walking around the pool in her designer gown she first meets Ronan Byrne Caroline's new predator head of security and hit man.
He Falls First ..but won't admit it.
Two years later Ronan comes to the house with Caroline. He sees the bruises..she's not the same girl as that night.
The Senator commits ,"suicide " but he's been playing both sides of the underworld war.. And all hell breaks loose.
For readers who loved Runyx The Predator and loved Rhys Lawson And Bridget's love story in Ana Huang's Twisted Games will love Ronan Byrne the stone cold assassin swooping up a bleeding Poppy and flying her to the end of the world to keep her safe.
They aren't safe .. they are tracked and Poppy shows Ronan she will stand up to anyone for him .her character becomes brazen as a hell cat who fears no one anymore.
Her only fear is Ronan walking away. As all the books in this series PTSD and childhood trauma are issues dealt with , the characters are vulnerable and pour their souls out working through demons for their mental health. Ronan learns he is worth more than a hired gun , he can build a family without fear, and he is deserving of love. There were some plot issues for me ..I am a thriller fan , and crime drama fan so when Ronan found out Poppy had texted her sister, they should have moved .left Ireland gotten on a train to anywhere. I loved the suspense, and I loved the interconnected stories ..I remembered the point Ronan was offered a job with Leo in his story, I remembered him disappearing soon after shooting Leo, I love how these stories are all going on simultaneously and you can't wait to read the next one. I am glad it switched to dual POV in book two, although I still wanted more Ronan!. Wish he had taught Poppy how to use a gun and martial arts .by the end of book 3 I was ready for her to go gangster. Loved the ending Epilogue ..I would love to have books of the Morelli next generation!
We have everything I’ve come to love about this Midnight Dynasty world- heart pounding suspense, intense chemistry, character complexity, and so much drama. And as always, we have an epic clash of the Morelli and Constantine families that brings everything to a head. Just delicious.
These characters really evolve slowly over time. I left book 2 wanting a bit more evolution of these characters, and M. O’Keefe really delivered on that in the finale of this trilogy. Both of these characters have suffered so much within the tangled web of this Constantine-Morelli world, a dog eat dog world indeed. But these two make a stand- fighting for each other against impossible odds. Ronan the protector, but we also see Poppy finally fight. We finally got to see Poppy find herself - find her strength. Against the seemingly indomitable, big bad Caroline Constantine no less. And fighting for Ronan- a man who no one has truly fought for. And Ronan continues to be both dark and dreamy- the violent murderer, a dark presence, but a man who protects and loves Poppy with the same intensity. Their chemistry was so captivating- a beautiful emotive journey amidst all the fast paced action. Culminating in such a satisfying finale, some delightful cameos, and a delightful epilogue.
This story has been quite a surprise to me- in part, because I never thought I could get behind Ronan as a hero. One of the things I’m finding the most interesting about the Midnight Dynasty world is how much reading order influences your orientation to the characters and your understanding of their story. Having seen the worst in Ronan, I never thought I could be sympathetic to him, but he won me over big time. Of course, the wider this world gets, the more it opens up the opportunity for inconsistencies- either with characters or back story- and I did see a bit of that here in book 2 and in timelines, but for the most part, its amazing how characters I saw through another characters’ eyes- like Ronan- evolve when I see them through their love interest and their own eyes, they evolve. I’ve also enjoyed discovered the writing of M O’Keefe- she’s an author I’m looking forward to reading more from in the future.
Another series in the Midnight Dynasty world. 💖 I read the individual books and loved Ronan and Poppy's story!! 😍 This story is about Ronan, one of Caroline Constantine’s hitmen, and Poppy, the daughter of Caroline's (deceased) best friend. Although Poppy thinks the Constantine matriarch is taking care of her and looking out for her, the opposite is true. Poppy is only being used by Caroline. We know Poppy is forced to marry an evil older senator and that it was a bad marriage, but I would have liked to read more details about that marriage and the senator's abuse. However, that period (2 years) is barely spoken about. How Poppy finds out the senator's 'secrets' everybody is after, was way too obvious. However... it made me even more curious about Caroline Constantine's and Bryant Morelli's pasts! Also, Eden Morelli looks like a very interesting character! All and all: I loved the Hearts Series, I love the Midnight Dynasty world.... and I certainly want to read all the books in this world!
This is an amazing boxset which consists of the following: - #1 Ruined This is the first book in this series. Poppy may appear to lead the perfect life, but behind closed doors this is a different story. Polly will do whatever she must to keep her sister safe, even if that means being married to a monster. When Ronan comes into Poppy’s life, he sees through the façade that she hides behind, and sees the fear and vulnerability. This is a well written slow burn story which had me on tenterhooks throughout. #2 Broken This is the second book in this incredible series, and picks up where Ruined ended. Ronan has not had an easy life, and in this storyline, we learn more about his background. Ronan will do whatever he must to keep Poppy safe and protected. #3 Untamed This is the third and conclusion of Ronan and Poppy’s journey, and after that cliffhanger they are returning from Ireland to face a possible war between feuding enemies, which hopefully they can both survive. These two may have married out of necessity, but together they become stronger and stronger, and Poppy have come into her own as a fierce and self-confident woman, and Ronan who will protect and keep her safe no matter what he must do to achieve this. This is a perfect conclusion to this impressive trilogy, and this story is filled with angst, emotions, intrigue, suspense, danger, twists, family, action, chemistry, and love, which all leads to a complex, intense, and heartwrenching tale, which had me on tenterhooks throughout. I look forward to reading more from this talented author whose work I highly recommend. I received a free copy of this book via Give Me Books and am voluntarily leaving a review.
When I was sent ‘Dark Hearts’, I thought I was getting one book. But I was delighted when I found three books from M.O’Keefe’s ‘Hearts’ trilogy - Stolen Hearts, Broken Hearts, and Untamed.
‘Dark Hearts’, allows readers to move from one part of Ronan’s and Poppy’s story to the next, without ever having to switch books. I found this super helpful when getting to an intense ending and immediately wanting to know what happens next.
From the start, I thoroughly enjoyed Ronan’s ‘dark and mysterious’ side, which throughout the books we saw an increase as we learned more about his character. And even better was his soft, romantic side - that had been hidden for so many years due to outside influences forcing him to take on the persona of their ‘lap dog’ - start to blossom for Poppy.
Poppy was layered with her want to: Be a good sister for Zilla, to pull Ronan out of this dark world, to get away from people controlling her - which thanks to Ronan’s help, she was finally able to see. However, I did want to also throttle her sometimes due to her lack of pride. Constantly time and time again, when he’d ‘reject’ her, she only cried or clambered on him again. And though I’m glad she stuck with him throughout as it led to him finally being free. It was a little annoying.
Another criticism would be, that the whole ‘will they, won’t they’ trope in this series was a little bit too dragged on for my taste. I felt it was excessive at times and Ronan was always the instigator of the ‘we can’t’ and his reasoning was always the same, even though he would allow himself to give in for a minute before getting mad at himself and taking it out on Poppy. Though I do believe these two were ‘made’ for each other, and bring out the dark and light in each other (in good ways), at times it was mad annoying.
Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed this series and would recommend it for those gangster, dark world, and romance, vibes.
The Dark Hearts boxset is a three book omnibus. You can just binge on these books in one go!
In book 1, Ruined, we are introduced to Poppy. She's out of options, as her life is in complete turmoil. In a passing moment, she meets the mysterious, Ronan Bryne. There's a spark between them, but no flame, as she's promised to another. Poppy endures so much, thus the title, Ruined. Not all hope is lost, a key opens her gilded cage and Poppy is given the chance to live again. The enigma that is Ronan Bryne appears in Poppy's life. Like a moth to a flame, he can't stay away.
In book 2, Broken, Ronan is perpetually fighting his attraction to Poppy. If you like angst, this one has plenty. I thoroughly enjoyed reading about Poppy coming out of her shell. Just imagine a sad commercial with a neglected dog and flash forward, we see the same dog thriving and happy. I know, I just compared Poppy to a dog, but it was the best visual I could come up with. Poppy battles her demons from the past 2 years of marriage. She's not done fighting, but we see her growing and trying to overcome her obstacles.
Lastly, in book 3, Untamed, we see everything come to light in a page-turning, action packed ending. Poppy is enlightened as to what is going on around her and Ronan finding peace in where truly belongs.
This trilogy was a pleasure to read and I thoroughly enjoyed the journey.
TW/CW: Past trauma, abu$e, vi0lence, miscarriage. This book has dark themes, so please review warnings from the author.
Story ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Spice 🌶️🌶️🌶️ Angst⭐⭐⭐ Book 1 & 2 end in cliffhangers Book 3 HEA
A fantastic trilogy from M O’Keefe with Ruined, Broken and Untamed all together in one book so no cliff hangers for anyone who hasn’t already read this amazing series. As usual with anything that involves the warring Morelli and Considine clans this book is full of twists and turns and features the brooding Irish assassin Ronan and the tragic Poppy, a heroine who has had the spirit beaten out of her leaving her a shell of the girl Ronan first encountered two years before. This trilogy follows their story as just as Poppy finally thinks she’s free of her brute of a husband, events conspire that put her firmly in the line of fire with Ronan the only one she feels she can trust but is he really someone she should rely on or is his loyalty to Caroline Considine?
Dark Hearts is an angsty and slow burn read with fantastic character development over these books which is all the more apparent when reading them together especially with Poppy as she gains in confidence and comes into her own realising she can stand up for herself but also Ronan as he learns more about his past and realises he is deserving of Poppy’s love. Ultimately they save each other. This is a fantastic addition to the Midnight Dynasty world but please oh please can some author come up with a fitting end for Caroline Considine? One evolving erupting pustules and a horribly painful and lingering death? She’s like all of the Disney wicked queens and witches combined into one and then some!
This book grabbed me right from the start and I couldn't read fast enough to find out what was going to happen between Ronan and Poppy. It was a SLOW burn full or angst, mystery and intrigue. Still trying to piece everything together and figure out who the good and bad guys are. I am so looking forward to reading the next book to see how things play out.
Broken (Book 2)
I am absolutely loving the book in the Midnight Dynasty Collection, they are loosely interconnect by the families yet each series stands on it's own. Ronin & Poppy's second books begins where the first book ended and takes us on an angsty emotional journey with them. Holy crap I did not see that twist coming, but can't wait to see how it all plays out in the next book.
Untamed (Book3)
HOLY COW!!!!! What a wonderful ending to Ronan and Poppy's story. The change in both characters from book 1 to book 3 is incredible and I like how it happened organically based on things happening around them and not an ultimatum from one or the other. They both evolve so much in this book and well I can't say much else without spoilers. I like how characters from other books are included and we get a glimpse into what is happening with them OMG Leo (you have to read to find out) And I liked the view into some other Morelli's or Constantine's who may have a story coming out at some point. I just love the Midnight Dynasty world and this is one of my favourite books to date.
POV: First person / Dual Genre: Dark Romance / Anti Hero / Heroine in Danger / Opposites attract
To the outside world, Poppy lives a charmed life. Born to a wealthy family, a friend of the prestigious Constantine family, and now the wife of a prominent senator. However behind closed doors her husband is a monster she can’t escape.
Two years into her misery, Caroline Constantine’s ‘junkyard dog’, the mysterious and brooding Ronan Byrne shows up and sees through Poppy’s calm, and takes notice of the fear she hides.
When her husband takes his own life, Poppy is suddenly free from her monster, but danger is still surrounding her.
It isn’t long until the danger to Poppy becomes so much that Ronan doesn’t have a choice but to step in and help her, whether she wants it or not…
𝐃𝐚𝐫𝐤 𝐇𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐬 is a trilogy box set that contains three full-length novels: 𝘙𝘶𝘪𝘯𝘦𝘥, 𝘉𝘳𝘰𝘬𝘦𝘯, and 𝘜𝘯𝘵𝘢𝘮𝘦𝘥 by bestselling author M. O'Keefe. I was entranced by the whole trilogy with its drama, suspense, secrets, complex characters, chemistry, angst, not to mention it’s many twists, turns and heart stopping cliffhangers. The intense story of Poppy and Ronan had a complexity that unravelled in a truly beautiful way.
𝐃𝐚𝐫𝐤 𝐇𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐬 offers plenty of angst, lots of drama, heart and a journey of self discovery that will keep you on the edge of your seat.
Dark Hearts follows the tragic but honest love story of Ronan and Poppy. This is a complete collection of M. O'Keefe's Hearts trilogy. Please check trigger warnings before reading.
Poppy is a sweet, innocent girl who is forced to get married to the senator after her father dies and leaves her and her sister Zilla in substantial debt. Ronan is just a "junkyard dog" from Ireland who comes to the states to work for Caroline Constantine, a longtime family friend of Poppy's.
One day during Poppy's engagement party to the senator she runs into Ronan and things seem refreshing to her. It's like she can relax and is enticed by him but doesn't know who he is or why he was here. They don't see each other again for 2 years and then Poppy's life changes drastically. She sadly gets mixed up in the rival families (Constantine/Morellis) drama, that sends her to hell and back.
Throughout the 3 books you watch Poppy become this strong, entitled woman who has learned how to be tough and brave and not let her past define her. M. O'Keefe definitely keeps you on your toes during this fast past novel with numerous twists and turns that makes you keep guessing what's going to happen next. Their love story wasn't easy, and they have to fight for their HEA but it was well deserved.
Thank you M. O'Keefe and Valentine PR for this ARC copy. I am truly grateful.
4.5 stars I loved this dark and spicy grumpy sunshine romance set in the Midnight Dynasty world. Poppy and Ronan’s love story has so many twists, and their HEA was not an easy one to achieve.
Both Poppy and Ronan are incredibly emotionally damaged after their traumatic pasts. They were both abused by older people in authority roles over them. However, they each cope very differently.
Poppy is still so innocent and bright-eyed despite everything she’s had to endure. She wants Ronan to open up to her so badly. However, Ronan is about as elusive and self-sabotaging as they come. He is so tortured and feels undeserving of love. His feelings of unworthiness destroyed me. He thinks it would be easier to push Poppy away than deal with his feelings. I loved the little moments where he would break and allow himself bits and pieces of Poppy. Their tension was palpable.
The Dark Hearts box set contains the books Ruined, Broken, and Untamed in one collection. I highly recommend this trilogy.
Dark Hearts by M O’Keefe Boxset featuring Ruined, Broken & Untamed is set in the Midnight Dynasty world and I am obsessed with it!
I love that the Midnight Dynasty world is introducing me to new authors and M O’Keefe’s writing was amazing!
This story follows Poppy who meets Ronan a mysterious man, when she is 19 at her engagement party where she has been promised to a rich & powerful Senator.
Two years later, Poppy i finds herself an abusive marriage to her senator husband and Ronan reappears back in her life working for Caroline Constantine.
There is instant attraction between the two of them and I really loved them together. Poppy is strong and sassy heroine, she has no idea who to trust in this world and just wants to escape it all.
Ronan has had a rough life but he does everything in his power to protect Poppy from this world she has been trapped in.
This starts a suspenseful ride in the world of the Bishop’s Landing
I have recently started reading the Midnight Dynasty and I am mesmerized with this world. The Dark Hearts trilogy had me under a spell and I had to pull an all nighter to finish as I was lost in their world.
Ronan and Poppy are completely opposite yet they complete each other. I had my heart in my throat most of the read. Their story tugged at my heart strings.
There are secrets, drama, mysteries and lots of questions which might change their world. I especially loved the character developments and how they slowly fall for each other. I was in awe with their love.
Poppy and Ronan both have been through hell. It was hard to control my emotions while reading there pain. The epilogue put a smile on my face yet I wanted more of the couple.
Thanks to Valentine Promotions and the author for the advanced readers copy for a honest review 😊.
This is the year I've been into series bind-ups. I love having an entire series all at once and being able to binge it. Dark Hearts is a bind-up of the Hearts trilogy. This is a dark romance with blackmail, a tortured anti-hero, and a heroine in danger. Poppy was married to a monster and she's now being used as a pawn in a war between the Constantine and Morelli families. She starts the story naïve and broken but begins to gain her confidence and freedom through her relationship with Ronan. Ronan is the anti-hero, he does bad things but he has a soft spot for Poppy. He feels a connection to her and wants to protect her. The romance here is complicated, erotic and, at times, heartbreaking. I think this series will be exactly what dark romance readers crave.
