Beautiful book that could be very healing for someone dealing with the loss of a partner, or for someone who want to understand and support someone going through a similar loss. Dahl dedicates this book to "others like me, who find themselves suddenly alone." This is mostly a series of poems that explore the author's emotions as she undertakes "the long journey down the path of healing" following the death of her husband of 33 years in a plane accident. She includes some short narrative framing for various sections and poems as well, providing details that help explain what was happening in her life when the poem was written.

This book is a unique and personal look at Dahl's experiences - very authentic, heartfelt, and searching. There are spiritual themes that would appeal to readers from a variety of religious backgrounds, but nothing preachy. It's you're walking through this grieving process with a good friend who used her writing as a way to survive.

She begins by focusing on the initial shock and the early days when friends don't know how to react to her, and she struggles to make it through each day before moving on through different stages and experiences.

Highly recommended!!

An accessible and honest look at the grieving process. Can be enjoyed by readers of any level of familiarity with poetry. Was good for me during this anniversary week of my own mother's death.

'The Clothes'

The clothes you wore
are finally a part
of someone else's life.

I waited until it felt just right
before I chose to share you
with the others.

They smelled of you...
of cigarettes, and sweat,
and cars, and man...
Your essence, left behind,
reminding us all of you.

Oh, it was difficult to do.
