Guinevere Kerr, Gwen, is down from Scotland for the first time ever, for a Season in London, along with her three sisters and three cousins. She hopes they'll all do well on the Marriage Mart, with her serving as their spinster chaperone, though she's only twenty-three herself.
Knowing no one in London, she tried to make the acquaintance of one of their next-door neighbors, dubbed the brooding bachelor, Lord Hugh Lyon, Viscount Ferndown. He's so appallingly rude to Gwen and her youngest sister Igraine, they swear they'll have nothing more to do with him.
They may be fresh from the country, but Gwen knows a gentleman when she sees one. Hugh is mortified by the assumptions he makes as to why the two lovely young women have come for a visit, and instantly regrets his bad manners. Clawing his way into Gwen's good books becomes an obsession.
He's helped along by his glamorously rakish friend Mick Devane, the Earl of Antrim, who lives in the house on the other side of the Kerrs. Together, the two men become part of the charming Kerr family circle, and soon set their sights on their lady loves.
But Gwen's grim family troubles prevent her from ever considering a future with Hugh. And far from being an ally in Hugh's troubles, Mick manages to make things even worse. A ghost from Hugh's own past threatens any chance of him finding happiness. Can Hugh convince Gwen he's the only man for her, before it's too late?
After great suffering in her childhood, Lady Guinevere Kerr finds herself in London for her very first Season. Well not hers, she doesn’t believe she’s worthy of love, but her sisters and nieces are. They stay in a relative’s town house. On their left lives Michael Devane, Earl of Antrim, an incorrigible but principled rake, and on the other side Hugh Lyon, Viscount Ferndown, a brooding bachelor and incidentally Mick’s best friend. Hugh has mourned the death of his fiancee for 10 years and Mick has long since been trying to get him out of it. While both men guide the girls through the turbulent waters of London Society, friendships develop, tenders bloom and hearts start yearning.
📚 The story is rather original and has some unexpected twists and turns, but the endless conversations are quite tedious. There are a lot of characters competing for the spotlight. All very interesting and colorful characters, but it does get confusing at some point. With some novels I get the feeling the author wanted to cram too much in too little pages. This book is the opposite! If this book had been a novel it would have gotten an extra ⭐ 📚 Traumatised FMC, slow burn, steamy, open door, trial engagement, he falls first
This is my first time reading something by this author and it was a very enjoyable read. The story was entertaining and well- written with likable characters. Gwen comes to London with her younger sisters, who she hopes to find good matches for. She doesn't hold out any hope for herself, though, given that she has some issues from her past that lead her to the conclusion that she shouldn't look for a husband. When her and Hugh meet, he made certain assumptions about her and was quite rude. But with the help of his good friend and neighbor Mick, he starts to find his way into Gwen's good graces and they begin to form a tender bond. But Hugh also has his own past to deal with, and they both need to start believing that they are worthy of love and accept each other's love. A charming romance with unexpected twists and turns that kept me engaged in the story till the end. A very entertaining and enjoyable read! I received a complimentary copy from StoryOrigin and am voluntarily leaving my review.
Well written, fast paced reading. Full of action, drama, well defined characters, romance, steam with lots of twists and turns. Gwen arrives in London with her sisters and nieces for the Season. She being the oldest and having issues from her past, makes her feel that she should not be looking for love or a husband. Hugh also has issues from his past, his biggest is that his fiancee had past away and he hasn't gotten over it yet. Both will have to start believing in themselves , that they are worthy of being loved to get to their happily ever after. They will get help from some but then you have some who would rather keep them apart. Hugh and his friend try to help them all thru society and the way it behaves. Good book to read. Would recommend this book to all.
For some reason we spent MULTIPLE chapters having the same conversation: he doesn’t want me, he does, then why did he kick me out, to protect you, but that’s his first love, and???, but his duty to her, he owes her nothing soon as she married, he doesn’t want me…
Honestly I should have dnf but I’d already sunk so much time into this book…then all of a sudden a double murder happens at their wedding with like 10 pages to go??
Also this book needed trigger warnings, I know the time period was different but she was 12 and was 30. I wish I knew we were going to head in that direction because then I wouldn’t have read the book to begin with.

OMG! I was in a serious panic, she was being so stubborn, had me going for minute. She made Hugh work for it, and The Elliot showing up, was the last thing I expected, seriously awesome twist.👍👍👍
