A wager between a governess and a viscount… what will be the consequences?
Being foisted with not one but two children is one thing, but to be sent their governess also is quite another! Unhappy, he decides to send the governess and the children away, only for the governess herself to beg him to change his mind.
Miss Tabitha Raikes never expected to have to make a wager with a viscount! Knowing that to return to her father’s home would cause her untold difficulty, she makes a bet with the viscount that, should she win, will force his hand and permit her and the children to stay. Will she be able to succeed? And can she hide from him the beginnings of affection that are springing up within her heart?
Rose has read her way through countless romances over the years, “borrowing” them from her older sisters, and hiding them from her mother.
She has a special love for Regency romances and when she began writing, the Regency period was a natural place to start. The ton, the wealthy families, the Season, the dilemmas, and yes, the marriages, have always fascinated her.
She loves a happy ever after! Now she is happy to bring this passion to her stories and share it with her readers.
On a personal note, Rose lives in North Carolina, is married, and has a terrier that barks too much. She enjoys taking him for walks to tire him out!
Viscount Edmund Wollaston has reluctantly promised to care for his brother’s children for up to a year, whilst they travel abroad visiting their holdings. Edmund didn’t realise just how much six year old twins would disrupt his carefully ordered life. Unhappy, he decides to send the governess and the children away, only for the governess to make a wager. Miss Tabitha Raikes never expected to have to make a wager with a viscount! Knowing that to return to her father’s home would cause her untold difficulty, she makes a bet with the viscount that, should she win, will force his hand and permit her and the children to stay. The sixth book in the series & it's easily read on its own. Edmund & Tabitha lock horns from their first meeting & things go south from there until Edmund’s friend talks some sense & Edmund listens. I loved Tabitha from the start & I was so pleased that she had a backbone & stood up to Edmund. Edmund was very hard to like as he was so pompous & condescending to begin with. One of the delights of the book was how Edmund saw the error of his ways, mellowing & becoming likeable. A well written entertaining read with a mystery too My honest review is for a special copy I voluntarily read
It was a good story, but where the others in the series had a protagonist there was none in this book. The only obstacle was the attitude of the H, Lord Wollaston. He was extremely unlikable for most of the book, so unlikable I didn’t think that there could realistically be a love match in the end. The h, Miss Raikes, had a backbone and that was refreshing. She seemed to have such an outstanding influence on the entire household that she was able to bring about personality changes. While not my favorite of the authors stories it also wasn’t a book I wanted to put down.
Sweet story with no villain to cause problems. You may think that it would be boring, but it wasn't.
There is a mystery and the H discovers he didn't know his brother very well. I enjoyed the element of surprise when a clue is discovered and not everything is as it seems.
I certainly didn't care for the H at the beginning. He was arrogant and thought the h beneath him. The h is strong, caring and through no fault of her own, she is forced to work for a living. She stands up to the H more than once and I loved her spunk.
One of my favorite character's is the H's best friend. Oh, I want him to get his HEA too.
This is a clean story with only a few kisses at the end. I can't believe the H's brother would leave his twins for a year or more. Why not take them when they went to the Continent, it's not like they were babies.
No cheating, no cliffhanger but does end somewhat abruptly at the 88% mark on my e-reader. Rest blurb of another book. We do get HEA and it's clean.
I can't improve on the blurb, just giving you some tidbits to decide whether to purchase or not. I liked it even though a simple story. The transformation of the H was worth the read and how his love developed for his niece/nephew. Thanks to the h and the best friend. (ljb)
Edmund Richardson, Viscount Woolaston was unsettled about having his young niece and nephew to stay with him for a year. He liked his life to be well ordered and disliked change. Tabitha Raikes was the young governess employed to look after the two children. Tabitha is a daughter of a viscount but due to family conditions, worked as a governess. Tabitha and Edmund didn’t get off to a good start but I was pleased that she didn’t back down and stood her ground. Tabitha was also determined to have her say where the children were concerned. Edmund also has his friend giving him some timely advice. With Tabitha’s guidance could Edmund form a bond with his relations? Tabitha also shows a caring side to the children and others and Edmund begins to see her in a different light. There is also a mystery involving his brother’s rooms. This was an entertaining story that moved along at a good pace and can be read in an evening. I received a copy via Booksprout and have voluntarily reviewed it. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Viscount Edmund Wollaston has promised his brother he would watch his children while he and his wife go to America to check on their holdings there. Little did he know how much they would disrupt his life. The governess, Miss Tabitha Raikes, arrived a couple days later than the children which he was totally annoyed about until she proved to him with a letter stating when she was to arrive. She is the daughter of a viscount who remarried after his wife died and she has totally made Tabitha miserable. Tabitha is so good with the children but when push comes to shove with the Viscount, she stands her ground. She finally makes a wager with him that if she wins, she and the children stay, if she loses, they will be sent to another relative.

When the Viscount Wollaston agrees to watch his brothers children for a year he figures, with the proper help, he won't have to deal with them. When they arrive with a nurse and no Governess, as promised, problems arise. When Miss Tabitha Raikes arrives to be Governess, there is a missing child and she is blamed for it. Needless to say sparks fly and a wager is made. Will Tabitha win and keep her position or will she be sent back to her Father? The story was well written and characters loveable. Along with kids antics, wagers and arguments, there is a mystery as well. If you like a good story with a wonderful ending you will enjoy this series and this author.

A clean romance. Viscount Wollaston agrees to care for his niece and nephew for a year assuming his life would continue as before. He is rude and inconsiderate when Miss Raike arrives to take on role of governess. His rules for her to follow were strict with idea of keeping children out of his life. Miss Raike proposed a wager to prove her methods would open his eyes and heart. His friend also wagered him that his heart would be captured by Miss Raike. Seeing the joy of the children and spending time brought them all happiness. A mystery to solve also brought Lord Wollaston and Miss Raike closer and love blossomed.

Viscount Edmund Wollaston was asked by his brother to let his children stay with him while him and his wife went to the continent. Edmund reluctantly agrees on the provision that they have a good governess to look after them.
Miss Tabitha Raikes has been employed to be the children’s governess. She is a viscount’s daughter who has been forced to leave her old home.
When Edmund feels that his orderly life is being disrupted by the children he decides to send them away. Tabitha makes a wager with him to give some time before sending them away.
Can she change Edmumd’s mind? Will he learn to appreciate the children?
This is a good sweet, clean story which I really enjoyed reading.
Viscount Edmund Wollaston has agreed to care for his brother’s six-year-old twins for a year while his brother and his wife tour their properties on the continent. Edmund has a well-organized life that he does not want to have interrupted. But the governess for his niece and nephew, Miss Tabitha Raikes, has other ideas of what would be best for the children. She makes a bet with him and the dynamics in the home begin to change. I was eager to keep reading until the end. Romance is in the air, and a surprising find gives peace to someone else.

After quite a bit of persuasion and the promise that he won't even know his niece and nephew are in the house, his lordship agrees to allow the children to reside, with their governess, in his home for a year! The struggle to make the children's presence silent and unseen makes for a struggle. Adults don't always know or care how their decisions impact others, particularly children. As always, Ms. Pearson handles the problem brilliantly, leaving everyone in the situation the better for it, except the evil people! You'll enjoy the transformation that occurs.
“A Wager with a Viscount” by Rose Pearson A FUN Read This is a sweet clean historical romance story that is truly a fun light read. WoW, Edmund really had no idea how saying yes to his brother’s request would change his world. Yes, there is romance, and a touch of mystery all neatly tied up in this fun story. Yes, I chuckled many times and my eyes leaked, just a bit during one scene. I do hope you enjoy this story as much as I did. Happy Reading ! ! NOTE: This review expresses my honest opinion. I received an ARC of this story from the author via BookSprout.
A brother in need of help for his children and a Viscount who agrees to help. Hasty plans then ensure that a governess is employed for his nice and nephew but sparks fly at the start of Tabitha’s employment. Edmund is very unhappy at the way that the governess allows the children freedom and also with the way that the children are allowed to behave. Add some mysteries as to who is searching the Mansion and a determined Lady seeking a husband for her daughter. Rose Pearson writes sweet and clean Historical fiction suitable for all age groups.
Viscount Edmund Wollaston has agreed to take care of his young niece and nephew for a year! When they arrive early and without their governess! When the governess shows up a week later he is furious. His quiet peaceful life has been disrupted and he is not happy! He immediately starts yelling at Miss Tabitha Raines! She is stunned! She is the daughter of a Viscount and has never been spoken to so harshly. They immediately disagree on everything! Has she made a mistake? As soon as she meets the adorable children she is determined to protect them from their nasty uncle! When he sees his friend conversing with the governess in a congenial way he fears he has misjudged her. I really loved this sweet romantic story. Rose Pearson is the Queen of Regency Romance. She writes so beautifully that u feel as if u r there! All the details and custom of the time period come to life! I also loved the little side mystery but felt bad for Miss Watson! It was also a good lesson in treasuring those close to u while they r alive. I highly recommend this book and this author.
OH MY - why would she make a wager with him? She takes a job as a governess after her stepmother forces her to leave. And her boss thinks this whole thing is not good! Taking his niece and nephew while his brother goes on holidays. UGH. This is a SUPERB book — love how she makes him think about why he is not enjoying this . . .or is he?? I received a copy of this book from the publisher. All thoughts and comments are my own.
This book will grab you and not let you go. I loved all the suspense, drama, twists and surprises. I’m so glad Edmund was much more than his grumpy self. Tabitha has such a great disposition, those around her can’t help but be pulled in, most anyway. Loved all the descriptions, they added so much depth.

Charming storyline. Viscount Wollaston and Miss Tabitha Raikes become protagonists from the time they meet. Outside influences also tend to make things difficult for this intriguing couple. The wager is a stroke of genius, and an attraction begins to develop between Tabitha and Edmund. I enjoyed the story and highly recommend it.
Nothing like a Rose Pearson story. You will see how Lord Wollverson'z! love of quiet and a smooth running llfe will keep you entertained Enter two rambunctious twins to stir the serenity. Mix in a proper governess. Now life goes forward brewing up another tale to make you smile. Never miss one of MS Pearson's book!
Another wonderful story from Rose Pearson! Lord Wollverson has a calm and ordered life. Enter two children and their governess and his life has really changed. A fantastic book that you really must read! I received an advance copy of this book from the author, however, I voluntarily wrote an honest review. All opinions are strictly my own.
I thought this was a good book, and I loved the main characters. Heartwarming romance filled with mystery, intrigue, secrets surprising twists, and of course, love secrets.

AWE, Great characters who learn as they grow. Edmund, while a bit of a bear at first, became a true gentleman and uncle with most of the thanks going to Tabitha and her kind, honest, up-front ways. Add in sweet Clara and Christopher and their outings - that makes a pretty perfect day.
I always enjoy Rose Pearson's books and this one doesn't disappoint. I loved Edmund and Tabitha's story. These two have a difficult beginning but soon become allies and more. A great regency read
A sweet read that has no bad guy just relatives that leave much to be desired. It is a little different with wagers between the Governess and the Viscount.

I just found nothing wonderful about the hero or heroine so can't rate it any higher. They didn't grab me. The hero needed to fight harder and things needed to happen.
If you want a sweet read for the airplane, this is fine. :)
This was a nice story but after a while it seemed to go off down a side road and then go round in circles. I felt there were various loose ends which didn't get resolved.
Cliffhanger. Buy my next book to find out what happens. There is nothing that turns me off of an author faster than that. Too bad, it was a decent book, but I won't read this author again.
