It's 1968 Grace and Lola meet in a home for unmarried mother's both have heartbreaking reasons for being there but their circumstances cement a beautiful friendship that will bind these girl's together.
When Lola gives birth to a baby boy she takes him home for her parents to raise but after Grace gives birth to a daughter her mother cruelly makes her give it away.
Once Grace is at home she struggles to come to terms with the loss of her daughter and unhappy with her homelife so she packs up and runs away turning up on the doorstep of her only friend Lola.
Oh I loved this book very much, I instantly loved the character of Grace I thought she was perfectly written I liked that the book was set in the 60s and you really get that vibe as your reading, I also loved the friendships between Grace & Lola and River & Byron
I thought the story was brilliant cleverly written and plotted, I kind of got the vibe of The Kray's with the characters of Dan & Des
The book deals with some hard topics that is sensitively handled, I also loved that the narrator of the story is mostly Grace and I felt like she was telling me her story and that made it more enjoyable, it was brilliant how everything come together until a deadly conclusion and I absolutely loved the ending I thought it was a perfect fit for the characters and the story, I'm just gutted that I've finished reading it, what would be interesting is catching up with the characters again in their adult life. And I have to say I loved the character of River was amazing to be apart of this story.

An excellent page turner of a story about 2 girls in the late sixties, who meet at a home for young, unmarried mothers. Lots of sub plots cleverly woven together. Would’ve given it 5 stars but felt the ending was a bit rushed.

Not a bad book, a very similar book to all the others in this genre. But for all that not a bad read

Brilliant, I read this in one sitting & lived it.
