It was a real pleasure to have an advanced copy of "The House of Prophecy" which is listed as Book 2 in the Chronicles of Chaos series.
Without giving much away, Glen Dahlgren has crafted another thrilling and captivating YA story that builds nicely on Book 1 of the series. In this case, it is a good balancing act that rewards readers of the previous title while at the same time is easy enough to follow along for someone who would like to jump into the series at the point.
"The House of Prophecy" is best suited for readers who enjoy a fairly fast-paced style while still giving moments for reflection on some philosophical topics. The title itself hints at some of the bigger questions that are asked and covered including what exactly is a prophecy and how can it change based on a different perspective. Similar to his other novels, this one is easy to follow and should go well with a 13+ reader.
The only questions I came away with is how will the series be wrapped up and when does the next one come out?
I think this is my favourite book so far in The Chronicles of Chaos series! Reeling from the ending of ‘The Child of Chaos’, this book sees Galen desperate to save his Mother, Lorre and bring her back from The Dreaming. Galen will stop at nothing to bring his mother back, even putting his friends at risk.
In the previous books it seems to be quite clear who the ‘good’ and ‘bad’ guys are but in this installment the lines are very blurry and I love that. Sometimes I wanted the priests to succeed and other times the Harbingers of Chaos. Sometimes I loved Galen and other times I disliked him for risking his friends and not thinking about the consequences of his actions.
This series is so enjoyable and easy to read. It’s a great YA fantasy adventure and I can’t wait to read what happens next.
I received a gifted copy of this novel. This review is my honest opinion and written voluntarily.
A great sequel to child of chaos. I loved the complex journeys and intertwined consequences, the high stakes danger, creative twists and character journeys. This book is more morally grey as the hero's motivations are changing and taking a darker path. It's a great fantasy adventure that pulls you in and keeps you hooked, and it was enjoyable seeing all the new challenges they faced. I loved seeing more of Dantess too and the actions scenes, and Carnubus's powers. Another great ending with a heartbreaking family reunion, and tragic cliffhanger.
House of Prophecy is a fabulous continuation of the Chronicles of Chaos series. The story takes some wild and unexpected twists as the adventure unfolds. Since I'd read the other two books in the series, some of the characters (especially Dantess) are starting to feel like old friends, that's how well they are drawn. Several complex themes are explored, including the consequences of choices and the consequences of getting what you think you want. The ending was thrilling and satisfying. I highly recommend this entertaining read, and am looking forward to the next one.
Once again Glen Dahlgren delivers a YA fantasy novel that keeps the action and excitement (and horror!) moving briskly while somehow finding the time to explore themes that are not only intriguing but far from what I'm expecting.
One example is in the title itself, "prophecy"- I'm not going to spoil with any specifics, but I found myself thinking about the nature of truth and falsehood, curators and interpreters of information. Don't get me wrong, the story is hauling ass and it doesn't waste time lecturing you, but these questions end up being integral to the story and bubble up naturally as you read.
You'll be happy to see some of your favorite faces from both Child of Chaos and Game of War return here, but you'll also meet some folks who are sure to become favorites moving forward. There are two girls in particular that I am eager to follow. I hope we see more of them!
Along with that, this is a world that has changed so much from what you've seen before. That's another theme that I appreciated- change. Galen and his mother made choices in book 1, here we get to see that those choices have not only completely disrupted the balance of power but they've also resulted in unforeseen consequences, both good and bad. And the biggest changes, the biggest unforeseen consequences, or for Galen and his mother themselves- and their relationship with each other and with the world.
The characters were awesome!! I loved reading and getting to know each one. Each character made this such a strong and engaging story.
The storyline was phenomenal. This author created such a wonderful world that kept me on the edge of my seat from beginning to end. It was an enchanting read that kept me coming back for more and I highly recommend it.
All I can say is WOW! What a great story. I enjoyed this one so much. I discovered Glen Dahlgren at the beginning of this series and let's just say it's been a wild ride with this series. So many great characters and twists you don't see coming. In this one Galen & Myra are trying to reunite their mothers soul with her body in order to save her but Laurie is making it difficult. As their journey progresses they will make new friends and face many challenges. Chaos is a force to be reconed with & the task won't be easy. A fantastic series & I can't wait to see what's next from Glen Dahlgren.
An amazing story that will keep you intrigued. We meet characters from the other book and it was wonderful to be with them again This was an absolutely outstanding , well written, worth the time to binge. You will be in another world for a time. Ready for another book.
The House of Prophecy is the sequel to The Child of Chaos, and makes for a fantastic continuation. The story is filled with new adventures and mysteries. The story balances characters well, making it easy to root for both the Harbingers and the priests. New characters like Sunny and Eve add depth, and Myra’s development is a highlight.
Highlights: • Seamless continuation with fresh adventures. • Balanced characters with compelling new additions. • Glen Dahlgren’s narration enhances the audiobook experience.
The audiobook, narrated by Glen Dahlgren himself, perfectly captures the story’s emotions, making it even more immersive. The book dives into complex themes and offers thrilling twists, focusing on Galen’s quest to heal his mother amid opposing forces.
Overall, it’s an exciting and emotional read with a gripping ending that leaves you wanting more. Highly recommend the series, especially in audiobook format.
In the interest of full disclosure, I reviewed an Advanced Readers Copy of the book in exchange for a fair and honest review. I liked the book so much I purchased a copy for Kindle for my wife and foster child to read and a signed hard cover from the author's website today.
While this is listed as a Book 2 of the series, I would describe this as a book 3, as the prequel is pretty tied into the other books in the series. This book draws heavily from the character development in the first book and the prequel and ties them both together tightly.
The focus of the book, as throughout the series, remains on Galen, whose mother has been identified as the Child of Chaos. There are several interesting reveals within this book, some of which surprised me, but I don't want to describe in detail to avoid spoilers. The book quickly reveals that the Home for Wayward Children was more than what it seemed, and was an integral part of Order maintaining control over Chaos' minions for so long. Most of the books events focus on the book and gradual revelation of critical mysteries to the competing groups of the Harbingers of Chaos and Galen's supports, as both race to influence Galen's mother from choices that would impact the entire world.
I like how the author manipulates common problems perceived with prophecy. First, as with any intelligence obtained by a group in power, it is important to know how much agreement there is on a potential outcome between various sources. Mr. Dahlgren exploits this potential intelligence hazard within his book deftly. Second, how clear is the information derived? Again, something as simple as "Who is the Child of Chaos?" could have multiple meanings. If that is the case, could multiple outcomes from prophecy be accurate? Lots of stories have developed over time from a misunderstood or inadequately understood prophecy. Again, Mr. Dahlgren highlights the folly of relying upon an inadequate understanding of prophecy. Finally, many stories examine how attempts to avoid fulfilling a prophecy in turn serve to push it to fruition. Mr. Dahlgren leads a master's course in this issue with this book.
This book, in its way, touches upon many contemporary social ills within its pages. Mr. Dahlgren examines at least four different family relationships which each have elements of toxicity within them, including narcissism, abuse, failure to communicate, and unhealthy competition for attention. Mr. Dahlgren juxtaposes individual needs, family needs, and societal needs, and shows the reader the need for a healthy balance between all of these issues. Mr. Dahlgren shows examples of how siblings with more healthy relationships can overcome conflict and adversity for mutual benefit, while showing other examples of how family relationships can deteriorate to the point of mutually destructive behaviors. Again, I'm avoiding specific details to avoid spoilers.
This book also talks about the benefits of faith, even in the absence of direct contact with one's deity, using that faith as a compass or model to better individual behavior. Mr. Dahlgren uses several different priest of different faiths to show that, through their actions, when guided by a genuine wish to act in accordance with their faith, individuals were able appropriately serve the interests of their god, even without the direct intervention of their deity.
This book kept a quick tempo, which is surprising given how much of the book took place within the House of Prophecy. This series has a darker side than many Young Adult books that I've read, which is not a bad thing, as I feel Mr. Dahlgren maintained a realistic feel within this series, which I think helps draw the reader into the books further. Although there are several "trigger" topics within this series, I would not hesitate to offer this series to a child, foster child, student, grandchild, or friend as a great and entertaining read. As I read this, I used some of the passages to set up discussions with my foster child about family relationships, dealing with bullies, and similar topics. I love it and hope you will to.
So many series end when the wrold changes and prophecy has taken shape. It was fascinating, then to see Glen Dahlgren’s House of Prophecy, which takes place after the momentous Child of Chaos, and deals with the aftermath of what is, essentially, the end of the world as it is known.
1. Thoughts on the plot This book follows Galen as he tries to heal his mother, Lorre, after she fulfilled prophecy and released Chaos into the world. He has allies in Myra, his sister and the high priestess of Charity, Dantess, a former priest of War, and Gusset, his longtime friend. As well as new characters in the form of the Harbringers of Chaos, who are taking advantage of the new world order to establish themselves. Only, not everything is as it seems and it turns out that there is more to the prophecy that Lorre broke than anyone could know. I really liked this plot. It had all the elements that make a really good story while also being unique and creative. I really enjoyed the quest for prophecy as well as the fact that most of the plot really had to do with character interactions as much as outside events. Also, that ending! The drama!
2. Thoughts on the characters Most of these characters were familiar from book one, and the prequel novel, A Game of War, featuring Dantess and his cohorts. It was really nice to see all the characters again, especially in their new roles after the events of book one. I really liked the changes that took place, as well as how they continued to adapt and change. I think that the new characters were perhaps a bit less real for me than the others, simply by virtue of lack of detail, lack of information about their past or their beliefs or the grounding forces. Granted, this is normal given that they are new characters, but I would have liked a little more, especially regarding Eve.
3. Favourite part That ending! Oh my goodness!
4. Critique I don’t have any major critiques for this book, except that I want to know more about some of the new characters. I guess I’ll just have to wait for the next book for that!
Overall, I would say that House of Prophecy is an excellent sequel to Child of Chaos and I am really excited for the next book. Perhaps too excited, but that ending was dramatic enough to have me throwing the book into the air. Or, well, I would have done if I weren’t reading electronically.
Here is my review of The House Of Prophecy by Glen Dahlgren
This series just gets better the more you listen to it. The author, Glen Dahlgren, narrates his own audiobooks and uses a wide range of voices to do all the characters and he is brilliant at them. I was impressed by the story and the impression that the audio made on me. It was a totally different experience listening to it rather than reading it. I think the narrator of a book makes a lot of difference and Glen Dahlgren is an excellent narrator. The speed is just right in this book and you can see how far through the chapter you are. You can pause the audiobook at any time and it will restart where you stopped it. Before you select your audiobook on Amazon, there is a chance to listen to a sample, I would advise doing this, just to make sure you can get on with the audiobook version before you buy. The audiobook gives you freedom to listen to it anywhere, whilst out walking, doing household chores or driving the car. Different from an ordinary book.
Blurb :
The Child of Chaos changed the world. The House of Prophecy could tear it to shreds. When Lorre fulfilled her destiny, she didn’t expect to survive. In fact, prophecy warns that her continued existence could rip the world apart. However, nothing can deter Galen from trying to coax his mother back home from the Dreaming nor stop the Harbingers of Chaos from trying to transform her into their new goddess. Searching for the keys to decipher the prophecy leads to the mysterious Home for Wayward Children—but the manor’s dark history and long-hidden secrets unlock Lorre’s immense power and push her to the brink of madness. Galen, Dantess, and their friends aren’t even sure what side they should be fighting on. Getting his mother back was everything Galen dreamed of, but keeping her alive could doom them all. The House of Prophecy is the second book in the multiple award-winning YA fantasy series the Chronicles of Chaos. Its tale of inevitable rebellion, immeasurable magic, and imminent divinity is sure to enthrall fans of Rick Riordan, Brandon Sanderson, and George R. R. Martin.
Galen helped saved his mother Lorre who was the Child of Chaos but the prophecy surrounding her said that she wasn’t expected to live. The fallout of Lorre fulfilling her destiny was the destruction of the old gods and the Priests, that served them and kept order no longer have their powers. This has created a power vacuum, and the Harbingers of Chaos are determined to get a hold of Lorre in order to turn her into a new Goddess, but this will have devastating consequences.
Meanwhile, Lorre’s mental state is failing, and she spends more time in the Dreaming than the real world. Galen tries to pull her out, but it becomes harder by the day. The shocking revelation behind Lorre’s incredible powers will leave Galen, Dantess and all their friends reeling from the truth behind the hidden part of the Child of Chaos prophecy.
Galen will do anything to keep his mother alive, but he may end up destroying everyone else he holds dear in the process!
I’m deeply attached to these characters after listening to 3 books in this series. I think Galen and Dantess are similar in many respects because they want to save their loved ones/make the world a better place, but they go about it in very different ways as they bring their own strengths and weaknesses to the table. Dantess’ past mistakes and actions play a big part in his story in this book creating some strife between him and Galen. Galen’s blind doggedness to keep his mother alive regardless of the tragic costs shows that he needs to learn from Dantess about sacrifice for the greater good and sharing hardships with others.
This story developed the characters and added multiple facets to the plot threads that were already established. The stakes are heightened which allowed for thrilling action, angst filled emotional moments between the main characters and a deeper delve into the world building and mythology that forms this fantasy world. I am excited to see where the story goes next but anxious as we might lose some of my favourite characters before the end.
This is the second book in the Chronicles of Chaos series and I went straight into this having listened to book 1 - The Child Of Chaos - and loving it!
This book follows directly on from the events of the first book and so I'd definitely suggest that you read these books in order. The character progression is important and also the storyline continues directly, with often reference to previous events. Although, this storyline is a complete section which concludes nicely within itself - but with obvious hints to what might follow in the third book - The Realm Of Gods.
I don't really want to talk plot here as I don't want to give any spoilers - but I loved how this connected to the first book and then took the journey even further. The world building continues, as after the previous events, the factions have altered and we see a whole new set of rules for the world thats been left behind.
This was really cleverly worked through and it was great to see the further progression of each of the different sections and characters. With the inclusion of some new foes - we see another action packed story unfold.
I loved meeting the children and seeing each of their abilities - intriguing to watch how these enhanced the already exciting plot.
The amazing writing style continues and holds our interest from start to finish and I really enjoyed diving straight into this and continuing the adventure. I'm a bit upset that I have to fit 2 other books in now before going into book 3 - but I can't wait to get back to Galen and the gang and see where book 3 takes us all.
The House of Prophecy by Glen Dahlgren. Narrated by Glen Dahlgren. The Chronicles of Chaos, Book 2. 13 hours and 34 minutes. I really did enjoy listening to this audiobook. I love this series. I liked seeing Galen and Lorre back. Gripping. I couldn't stop listening to this audiobook. I did love the different voices of the different characters. It feels like I'm there watching everything happening. I love that with a book or audiobook. It's like watching a movie come alive. I love the sound of Glen's voice. I can't wait until the next book. I definitely recommend this series. Especially on audiobook.

This series just keeps getting better! The House of Prophecy, the third book in the Chronicles of Chaos series by Glen Dahlgren, promises a thrilling continuation of the story filled with prophecy, magic, and conflicting loyalties.
The protagonist, Lorre, finds herself facing a prophecy that could potentially shatter the world anew. Despite having fulfilled her destiny, she now must navigate the dangerous waters of ancient prophecies that threaten her very existence. Meanwhile, Galen is determined to bring his mother back from the Dreaming, even as the Harbingers of Chaos seek to crown her as their goddess.
As the characters grapple with deciphering the prophecy and facing uncertain futures, they are led to the secretive Home for Wayward Children, where Lorre's immense power is awakened, pushing her to the edge of madness. The stakes are high as Galen and his companions must choose sides and navigate conflicting loyalties in their quest to reunite with Lorre.
Filled with rebellion, magic, and the looming fate of humanity, The House of Prophecy promises to captivate readers with its immersive journey into the depths of prophecy and the heart of chaos. Fans of high fantasy are sure to be enthralled by this enthralling continuation of the Chronicles of Chaos series.
I don’t know if it is because Glen Dahlgren is narrating the series he wrote, his own talent at story telling or both that made the audiobook version of The House of Prophecy so captivating. I was hooked right away. The narration is honestly top tier and I enjoyed hearing names and places pronounced by the person who created them!
The story itself is fantastic and really keeps you engaged. There is action and of course fantasy but there is also an importance of family and friendship throughout which I really liked and made it stand out. I love the world that Dahlgren has created and it’s so easy to become fully invested in the world and characters.
If you are a fan of fantasy this is a must read but if you are just entering the genre I think this series is a great place to start. It’s got all the elements of fantasy but done really well. While we do have world building in the series it never feels like it’s just dumped on the reader or thrown in randomly. We learn as we read which is my favourite kind. I can’t wait for the next book!
As always thank you to Love Book Tours for the copy to review. My review is always honest and truthful.
I really enjoyed reading this book. The action was well paced and enjoyable. This instalment explores the themes of family, responsibility, consequence, and how we balance those priorities.
The House of Prophecy throws Galen and his family back into the action to deal with the repercussions of the shocking ending of the first book, the Child of Chaos. Glen Dahlgren introduces new fascinating details of this world, while tying in many key players and events from his prequel novel, the Game of War.
It was a thrilling ride watching the first two stories collide and build off of each other until the stunning conclusion of the House of Prophecy leaves you wanting more! Glen has done it again, and something tells me that the Chronicles of Chaos are far from finished!
This was a great sequel to The Child of Chaos. The storyline carried on perfectly, but there was a lot of new adventure and mystery brought into the book. I liked that there was no clear good or bad, both sides thought they were doing the right thing and made mistakes. At times, I was rooting for the Harbingers and others I was rooting for the priests.
I really enjoyed meeting so many new characters in this book. Especially Sunny and Eve! I think they brought a lot of light into the story and gave the characters purpose. I found Galen to be quite selfish in this story, he kept putting his wants before others' needs. I connected a lot more with Myra this time and enjoyed seeing her character blossom.
💭 My Honest Thoughts 💭 Reading just the first line of the prologue I started getting excitable tingling/ goosebumps and I knew I was in for an exciting adventure..
I absolutely love this writers writing style and how the unfold the story, keeping the suspense going all the way through to keep you gripped in at all times..
Once again your hoping and praying for the good guys, poor Dantess gets put through it in this one aye.. even Galen and Myra have some tough choices.. Well alot of characters do to be fair in this one..
The ending blew my mind..
I really wanna know what was so glorious in the eyes of Eve!!.. bring on the next one!!
The epic story continues!! I absolutely could not wait to start this after reading the others!! As soon as I read Tolliver’s name I was like ooooooh!! Talking of returning characters loved that we had Navar in this book his brilliant!! Once again Glen Dahlgren takes you on a rollercoaster journey that involves dangerous missions, jaw dropping twists and of course heartbreaking losses. I should know by now to prepare myself for the halfway point of Mr Dahlgrens books (seriously why you do that? 💔😅) as well as the endings they always me want to dive right into the next one with these cliffhangers!! The storyline is epic - following on from The Child Of Chaos, Galen is desperately trying to reunite his mothers soul with her body but Lorre is not making it easy resulting in Galen making a decision that puts him and his friends in even more danger - but yet also right where they need to be. With new friends and old enemies this was just another awesome addition to the Chronicles of Chaos series! I can’t wait to see how it ends in The Realm Of Gods!! 💚🔥
This is the third book in a series and I very much recommend that you go back and read Game of War and Child of Chaos first. You will thank me later.
If you have already read those two books then I don't know why you are reading reviews you are already two books in you know you want to read this one too.
This is the book that deals with the void the gods left behind. This is what happens when someone tries to fill it.
Once again the narrator, also the author, provides a great performance. with unique voices and quality acting.
This was a very entertaining read. It was thrilling and full of action, a quest of sorts.
Galen desperate to save his mother and bring her back from The Dreaming. And he will stop at nothing to bring her back.
The author definitely knows how to bring a story to life. The world building and character depth was amazing, and the writing style pulls you straight into the story and captivates you throughout.
I don't want to give to much away, but if your looking for a epic fantasy adventure, I would definitely recommend this.
I love this series ... I was so glad to be back in this world. OMG Glen Dahlgren has made me an emotional mess in this book. Why did you do that to me? I had a feeling about 50% of the way through that the main plot point was going to happen but this still did not prepare me. I am so glad that Galen managed to get through this with his sister and then you did that? I am now thinking that I need to pick the next book up right now. Good Job that I have it on my Kindle ready to read.
Another fabulous read from a great author. Glen Dahlgren can bring a story to life with interesting characters and so many plot twists that one needs to carefully keep track so as to not lose their way, and I mean that in the best way possible. Highly recommend.
Another addition to a series of books I just cannot put down once I start reading. When reading the last two books of the series I felt each had a solid end and the story felt whole and yet I always want more to the story because the characters are so endearing. Each novel brings so much more to the overall story as well as continued character development even in the protagonists.
The author has created characters that could continue on for many adventures and I’m finding it difficult to accept that I am almost at the end of a series that surely could have more books yet.
Picking up right when the Child of Chaos left off, Galen and Myra are hoping to help their mother get well. Galen is desperate though, and after turning to the Harbringer’s of Chaos, Galen finds that his trust may have been haphazardly given and a second prophecy may exist that could throw the world into further chaos.
This story delves a little deeper into Lorre’s background, which I found fascinating. I really wanted to spend more time popping in and out of her memories! I’m also really glad that I read Games of War before I started the series because you get a lot more out of it in this book when we see Dantess and his father interact.
I have to say, the change in Tolliver from Game of War to House of Prophecy was intense; and while I can see where Tolliver comes from, he has slowly morphed to hold a villain status in more ways than I expected.
Glen Dahlgren continues to break my heart with the need to say goodbye to characters I love and I’m wary of who else we will lose to Chaos in the next installment.
A wonderful audio production, that will keep you engaged and entertained even on the most boring of drives! Highly recommend if you enjoy high fantasy, fast-paced, good vs evil stories with a long cast of memorable characters.
