Gilded Path to Nowhere

Rate this book
4th in the Family History Mystery Series
When a Maple Grove resident discovers some old gold coins in the woods near town, it's an intriguing event -- but not one that seems dangerous. However, the article Digger's friend, Marty, wrote for the Maple Grove News, seems to have attracted unwarranted attention. Did the coins come from a long-ago bank robbery or burglary, or was someone passing through murdered in the early 20th century? No matter the source, it leads to a fresh murder today.

Sheriff Montgomery asks Digger for help in tracing descendants of possible owners of the stash of coins. But he didn't mean for her to delve deeply into the case. She and Marty -- with input from the late Uncle Benjamin -- can't resist. Their probe may uncover secrets others will do anything to conceal.

This is my first time reading a mystery from this series, but it sure won't be the last. Elaine L. Orr is a very gifted writer and this cozey mystery murder with a twist shows her amazing work to its fullest. The array of characters are vibrant, colorful, quirky and interesting. Of course there wouldn't be a mystery without the schemers, and deadly characters, they all draw you in wanting to get to know them better, while the mystery entices you further with its intrigue. The plot carries you throughout from start to finish with its drama dynamicly and on going flow of fictitious historical and genealogy inputs. OH and one other thing there's a ghost. Acquire " Gilded Path to Nowhere " for hours of enjoyable and exciting entertainment. 😏😀 Kat ps.

This delightful and engaging historical mystery, perfect for a beach read, comes with a family ghost who interacts with the main character and adds a fun dimension to the story. Digger, the main character, has a family history genealogy research hobby which plays an important and intriguing role in gathering information for solving a mystery which revolves around an old murder and some found old gold coins and their provenance. Diggers boyfriend Marty is a reporter so together their sleuthing skills complement one another.
And adding some suspense to the story once there is news of gold coins then of course greedy people suddenly appear and add some unexpected twists and turns occur. I look forward to future Digger adventures!

Elaine Orr wins again with the newest, and 4th book in the Family History Mystery series. A well plotted cozy mystery, Gilded Path to Nowhere wraps us in the warm community while flashing gold before the eyes of some really greedy people. I was fun to see MaryAnne in action again as well as spending time with Digger, Martin, Holly and of course, Uncle Benjamin. He may be my favorite ghost; at least I sure enjoy him. The bits of local history just add to the feeling of reality that the book brings.

Fun read!

Kind of reminded me of a kid's game from long ago....button, button.... who's got the button? There is a lot of family history in this story. While fictional, it is interesting. And of course there is the ghost!

The lure of gold is often impossible to ignore and when Marty reported that gold coins were found in the mountains above Maple Grove, it was not surprising the people who start crawling out of the woodwork. But to kill for it, is something has may have happened before, and certainly did again.

I have really enjoyed this book by Elaine Orr - I love Digger and the crew, but Uncle Ben is just the very best!

Great addition to this series. The genealogy portion of these mysteries are so fascinating while ensconced in a who done it. All Ms. Orr's series are guaranteed to be well written, have developed characters, and entertaining. Definitely worth trying each series.
