After St. Louis, I knew it was time to seat the cannibal tribe in the "past tense" section of living. I mean, you just don't kidnap someone's demon accountant. That's just frickin' rude.
Of course, now we're doing the chasing, like a couple of shotgun-toting girls hunting down our dates to the Sadie Hawkins' dance. Well.... except that Noah's not a girl... and our dates are a cannibal tribe and yet another dickbag demon that wants to kill me. Oh, and the dance is death. Possibly of the eaten-alive, cannibal variety. At least if the cannibals get me first. If it's the demon, there's a good chance it will involve a reenactment of the scene from that Indiana Jones movie when the guy rips the poor sap's heart right out of his chest.
So that's fun. Then there's the constant acid reflux of having Noah along for the ride. Apparently my handcart, hurtling towards Hell seats two. I'll do my best to keep him alive as we hunt Necrowitches, Pucas, bugbears, demons, and of course, Sister Smile and her tribe of cannibals. Raise the whiskey and pass the ammunition.
D.V. Wolfe is a Kansas farm kid, transplanted to Oregon. She is unapologetically warped, irreverent and incorrigible. Oh, and she likes to write. Wolfe writes urban fantasy with a side of snark, building epic worlds for her readers to escape into full of monsters, gods, and puny humans trying to make sense of it all. If you like Supernatural, Buffy, Sabrina, or Dresden Files, you'll feel right at home in Wolfe's expansive Midnight Rider Universe.
Dirty Deeds By D.V. Wolfe The crazy characters are now dealing with the cannibals, again, but now they have a new leader. They dealt with a lot of other creatures, too. I love how everyone relates to each other. The plot is exciting, fast, emotional, and tense at times. It's funny, thrilling, and totally unique! Going to the next book!
I've actually had this book for almost a year, the cover I have is different fro the one listed. I finally got around to reading it and a few others in the series. Very, very good job of world building, and planning beyond a single book. Some of the setups here pay off later. Its got some gruesome moments, but I enjoyed it all very much.
Dirty deeds is second book in series. Can be read alone but highly recommend picking up book 1 first. Great characters, rapid fire action, and humor. It's like Supernatural and the Walking Dead has a baby!
I’ll be honest: this type of book is not my typical read. Knowing this, I was a little skeptical going in, but I was completely drawn in from page one. The characters are complex and entertaining to follow through the story, and the plot is just perfectly paced to keep you reading throughout. Just a warning to people who are squeamish and sensitive: this book is brutal and gruesome, so it’s not for the faint of heart. If you can handle such things, however, you are in for an exciting and enjoyable ride.
I was pretty confused in the beginning, partly because there was a lack of descriptive writing (ie head and scene cues) and also partly because I picked up the second book as an only option at the time. But as I read on the story proven to be a decent read of paranormal proportions.
This author has a way of making the scene feel real and keeps you hooked until the end. I was reading other books while reading this, but I found myself coming back to it more often than not.
Fun. Exciting. Engaging. Action-packed. Funny. Sad. Hopeful. Like watching the Supernatural TV show but with the main character as a strong woman. Love it. Reading the next book in the series later tonight.
Lots of action mixed with a bit of comic relief And so far no graphic sex! Lots of blood and fighting of course, gotta kill the bad guys especially if they are demons and hurting innocents. Well worth the purchase and the reading time. Buy these and enjoy.
I loved it! This series is a real hidden gem! The misfit characters and their dry humor is so funny. It's a different take on urban fantasy that's easy to drop into. I need to pace myself so I don't binge. Fantastic author.
I love Bane, Noah, and the rest of the crew. Lots of action with some feelings thrown in. I never know what direction they're going in which makes it more fun to read.
Written really well, clever and witty. Not usually a genre I read but was asked to read. 😊 Characters really well developed and for those who like this kind of book, you’ll like it! 😊
