Not Until This Day

Rate this book
Three kids. Two broken hearts. One chance to become a family.

Isabel has three simple rules: Keep moving. No friends. No men. It's the only way to keep herself and her daughter safe. But when she arrives in the small town of Hope Springs, she finds that she suddenly wants to break all the rules. Especially when it comes to a certain sweet single dad.

Tyler has one goal: Keep his boys from ever getting hurt again. That's why he avoids dating, women, or anything having to do with love. So why does the mysterious single mother who works at his family's orchard have him rethinking everything?

As Isabel starts to think of Hope Springs as home, Tyler starts to think of her as more than a friend. But when Isabel's past comes to light, her fears and his doubts are tested in new ways. Will they give in to the fear and pain of the past--or can they turn it all over to God and trust him to give them a future?

Not Until This Day is an emotional story of faith, forgiveness, and most of all, trust in God's perfect love.

I have three great loves: Jesus, my family, and books. And chocolate (okay, four great loves). I write fast-paced, emotional Christian fiction that weaves real-life problems, real-life people, and real-life faith. My characters may (okay, will) experience some heartache along the way, but I promise I'll always give them a happy ending.

Not Until This Day is a beautiful and heartwarming story. It is a great addition to the Hope Springs series, yet I believe readers could hop into this novel and enjoy it without having read the other books. Just be aware that there are many other couples who appear in the book, whose stories have been told in earlier novels.

There were times that the main characters didn’t handle things well and made decisions that were in haste, which they would have to deal with later. Whether it was Isabel responding with a lie about her previous relationship or Tyler’s response to certain events, these things had to be dealt with and did help both eventually grow closer.

Isabel was not a believer for most of the book and I appreciated that the way she viewed things made sense from her world view. I loved watching her grow in faith and begin to pass along her fears to God. This was a great story that I enjoyed from start to finish!

I received a complimentary copy of this book. All opinions are my own.

This book was a lesson to remember of letting God to take my fear and fill me up with peace, every single moment of my life.

It was a lesson about faith. And I found it as a great reminder during this time of quarantine, when we have to stay at home.

"But here's the thing God reminded me of. I don't need this church. You don't need this church. It's just a building. What we need is the faith God has worked in our hearts. What we need is his love for us that is so great that he sent his Son into the world to die for us. No storm can take that away. Not even a tornado. (or not even a virus). Because our refuge isn't in a building. God is our refuge. He is our strength and our fortress."

Finally we get Tyler's story! If you've been keeping up with Valerie Bodden's Hope Springs series, you meet Tyler in Not Until Forever (book 1) which is Sophie and Spencer's story. I remember feeling for Tyler as Spencer finds out about his brother's marriage falling apart and then taking care of his two sons by himself, and also wondering, "I wonder if Tyler will get his own story.' Needless to say, I was pretty excited when I heard about this book! There are a lot of things I loved about this story, but I'll sum it up in 3 highlights:

1) Characters - Tyler and Isabel are very real, very flawed, and very likable characters. You get irritated at their flaws, like Tyler's harshness (stemming from trust issues) and Isabel's stubborn independence (stemming from past baggage), but it is these flaws that make them relatable and sympathetic characters. I also liked seeing Sophie (and to a lesser degree Spencer) play a supporting role in this story as friends who speak truth in love and encourage as needed.

2) Faith - this story has a very strong theme of faith in God that never feels forced but is woven organically into the story. It makes sense that God's love, the call to surrender our lives to God that leads to true peace and contentment, is something that Isabel thinks about and Tyler, Sophie, Dan, and others talk a lot about because their life IS their Christian faith, their Christian faith IS their life. I loved how Valerie Bodden portrays this in her stories, and you really see it described here as these people struggle with questions of 'why did this happen?' and 'can I trust God?' I also loved how what draws Isabel to learn more about God is the church community - she sees their warmth, love, and genuine care for each other and that makes her wonder, 'Is this for real?'

3) Story/Pacing - I thought overall the story was well paced in terms of exposition, action, and resolution. It was hard to put this book down once I started reading as I wanted to read more on Tyler and Isabel's developing relationship, Isabel's faith journey, and seeing how everything would tie together in the end.

I would definitely recommend this book - especially if you're looking for a story with relatable (and very real) characters who are on a journey to understand what Christianity is all about (not just intellectually but lived out)! And of course if you've read other Hope Springs stories, then this is definitely one to check out as well! I look forward to the next story in this series...hoping to see Grace's story soon!

I received an ARC of this book from the author. I was not required to write a review. All opinions expressed are my own.

Isabel had run from an abusive husband fearful that he found find her and their daughter. She had changed their names, colored her hair and gone clear across the country to Hope Springs. It sounded like a nice place to stay, at least for a little while. She had major trust issues and she was super protective of her young daughter, Gabby. She had rules. Among them were no friends, no men, don't stay too long in one place. She didn't believe she was worthy of love, not even God's.

Tyler had trust issues since his ex-wife had cheated on him and left him with their twin sons to raise on his own. He wasn't sure he would ever be able to open his heart up to love again. When he first met Isabel, he wasn't sure of her fitness to be a good mother. But, fate stepped in and kept the two of them in almost daily contact. As they spent more time together, he began to see that maybe God had a hand in this situation.

Was it possible for these two wounded souls to find that God had a plan for them both and would they open their hearts to faith and forgiveness in order to heal and learn to love again.

I enjoyed reading this story just as much as all of Ms. Bodden's other books. She has a way of telling a story by pulling at your heartstrings and bringing your emotions along for the ride. It was a beautiful story of healing and learning to allow God in to show you that you can love again after great heartache. It was a clean romance with no sex or foul language. There was a small amount of domestic abuse violence, but nothing terribly graphic and detailed.

I was given an arc copy of this book and I willingly offer my honest review.

I very much enjoyed this story about an abused woman and her young daughter and a man raising his twin sons after being abandoned by his wife. Both Isabel and Tyler had closed off their hearts from love, and it was so rewarding to see each of them begin to allow themselves to be vulnerable. It was very appealing to see Isabel come to faith in Jesus. The author sprinkles Scripture throughout this book, but is not the least bit preachy. I don't want to give any spoilers, but the ending of the story is quite beautiful. Romances are not usually considered page-turners, but I didn’t want to put down my Kindle. Just one more chapter, and another, and another… Since I didn't want to leave this small town and the interesting and likable people who live there, I have already purchased and begun reading the first Hope Springs box set. I highly recommend this book to readers who enjoy clean books with interesting and likable characters. Although part of a series, each book may be read independently of the others.

Disclosure: I voluntarily read and reviewed a free copy (ARC) and have given my honest opinion.

I find it neat how when I read one of these books I get so engrossed in the story I hate to see it end. But when the next one starts, even knowing and loving the stories of some of the other characters that seems to slide into the background while I am completely captivated by the new story! Once again I fell in love with Isabel & Tyler. While it is a romance I just love the way it tells even more of the underlying issues many of us face in our own lives! The tendency most people have to worry & not open up to keep from being hurt again. This story deals with how especially as Christians we need to remember that when we worry it gives us the false assumption we are keeping control and by closing ourselves off to protect from being hurt again not only produces bitterness but hurts us more than helps. Valerie shows how to work through these issues not alone but in the way God intends for us to, which is the only way to be successful. We need to give God that faith & control! I love this from the first page until the end...beautifully written story of faith and love!

Another fantastic read from Valerie Bodden.
This book delivers the message of the transforming power of God’s love in our hearts and lives.

Isabel is a single Mother on the run from an abusive ex husband. Although she doesn’t realize it, every decision she makes is driven by the fear that her ex-husband might find her and her daughter. Her husband's demeaning lies have caused her to believe that she is unworthy of being in a relationship. His physical abuse and the history of physical abuse in her past fills her with shame and mistrust. She has isolated herself from making friends or settling down in one place.

As the story unfolds Isabel comes to understand her value in God’s eyes and moves from victim to survivor to protector. Along the way she meets Tyler, who must deal with his own issues of fear.
As God works in their hearts, Isabel and Tyler come to realize that perfect love casts out all fear.

This is a very realistic depiction of domestic violence, fear, and the sense of aloneness experienced by those who have suffered at the hand of someone who has "claimed" to love them. It takes great courage and faith to take a chance and trust others after experiencing such cruelty. Faith, hope and love can accomplish that. This beautifully crafted story shows how faith in God, trusting that we are safe in his pure love will bring us to the life we are meant to live. Because of all the trials Tyler and Isabelle have gone through, they can now appreciate how beautiful their life will be together. Valerie Bodden has a gift for taking tough subjects and turning them into amazing love stories that warm your heart.

Isabel is running with her daughter and in the process isn't totally honest with the people she meets in Hope Springs. Tyler is living with the pain of having been cheated on by his spouse and her deserting their boys. I'll admit I had a problem with Tyler. I did appreciate how the author portrayed both of these characters as real people who struggle and still sin - as we all do. Their attraction is immediate and they both resist it. I just thought Tyler could have handled things a little differently - maybe I just saw her reasons a little more clearly than I did his. Loved how their children bonded and helped them form a family. I do love this series. The ending was so sweet left me with a smile.

This story was a nice, comfortable read--involving a realistic slice of life of a mother (Isabel) who was running from an abusive relationship in order to spare her daughter. She found herself in Hope Springs, hoping to find a place she could settle for a bit before moving on. What she found was friendships with caring people, a job, and a place she and her daughter could call home. Throw into the story a new developing relationship between the mother and a man (Tyler) who was himself putting distance between an unhappy, unfaithful marriage.
This is a clean, Christian read which I found quite refreshing.
I was provided an advanced copy and will be reading more by this author.

Some fear is expected, some is easy to hide, some is consuming and some keeps the senses sharp. Isabel and Tyler are both fighting fear. One of them has a fear that is hidden, the other not so much. One fights from a position of faith while the other is solitary. The antidote is faith, over and over, moment by moment. Their victories were my victories. This is a sweet clean romance with lots of faith. I received an advance reader copy of this book and this is my honest opinion

A Second Chance At Love And Happiness:
By Korkoi -
Isabel moved to Hope Springs to start a new life with her daughter Gabby, but Isabel was weary of everyone, as she had serious trust issues. She had been on the run for three years from an abusive spouse and therefore sworn off relationships. Tyler had also sworn off relationships, following his divorce after his ex-wife’s infidelity. It is a beautifully written story, about opening their hearts to the Lord, even through times of troubles, as he is all around them and in everything they did. The true message is about God’s love for us all and the power of prayer to find peace. (Beloved, let us love one another, for love is of God; and everyone who loves is born of God and knows God.)

I received a copy of this ARC and I am voluntarily leaving a review.

I enjoyed this peek into the small town of Hope Springs as it opened its arms to Isabel and her adorable daughter. Isabel and Tyler's story was very realistic, including the issues that both of them had to work through as they built trust in each other and God. I was thankful that it wasn't a predictable insta-romance. I'm looking forward to reading the rest of the series, after reading this as an ARC.

I had an ARC copy of this book, but this is my voluntary and honest opinion. This is a delightful story which addresses some of the problems of Domestic Violence victims. Valerie does a great job of showing how God’s love and forgiveness can conquer any situation. The story and characters are believable and interesting.

I received Not Until This Day by Valerie Bodden as an arc I absolutely loved the book. First off please let me tell you how refreshing reading a romance novel that was clean and still a page turner. This story is about Isabel and her daughter Gabby. They are running from a very abusive situation and constantly moving around so her ex-husband Andrew don’t find them. They end up in Hope Springs and she thought she had an apartment to rent but found out no animals were allowed.
They end up sleeping in their car for the night. That is when Tyler and his two boys see them at the marina. Tyler is raising his 2 boys after is divorce. Tyler’s family owns a cherry orchard. Isabel gets a job at the cherry orchard and her and Tyler definitely has some issues with trust. But eventually Tyler gets Isabel and Gabby involved with church. Isabel starts seeing that she is a worthy person.
I cried when I seen what she had went through and I know how being treated the way she had been can cause so many emotional problems through life. There is a lot more in this novel but don’t want to give everything away. But you truly need to go buy it and have faith! Great and enjoyable book!

I received an ARC to review: a deeply moving, profound and inspirational story of two broken lives being made whole by God and joined together, along with their precious children. Valerie does not tiptoe lightly, but rather plows into the nitty-gritty messiness of brokenness and all the gunk that it stirs up - and how the Master Healer, in His love and grace, restores completely.

A seemingly simple story that ends up a page turner, waiting for the “other shoe to drop.” Tyler and Isabel both have wounded hearts from the past. As a result, they don't always tell the truth. This is the story of their journey to first, trust God, and then learn to trust each other. Their story is full of adventure, friends and family, and more than a few twists and turns.

Loved this book! The characters were believable. You were drawn in right away. I feel that the book drew you in with the descriptions and details. I also loved the aspect of dealing with Domestic Violence and that it shows that there is hope for love. I am a domestic abuse survivor and felt this story was accurate that you could feel the worry along with Isabel. This book has given me hope!

This is a wonderful story about what it means to truly love and to trust, about second chances, new beginnings, forgiveness, community and the one Love that encompasses all. This was my first time reading a Valerie Bodden book. I will definitely read this whole series and whatever else she has written.

Isabel and Tyler have both been hurt in past relationships. They must learn to trust their hearts, each other, and God if they want to be able to move forward toward happiness. The author does an great job of fleshing out Isabel's character and describing the self doubt, fear, and self loathing she feels as a result of her past abuse. She does an equally good job with Tyler's character with his distrust of women and vow to never date again. Valerie writes with her heart. She delves into the characters and turns them into real people on the pages. I would definitely recommend this book!

Loved this story!! I loved reading Tyler and Isabel's story. Isabel had a tragic first marriage, touched by something that happens all to often in real life. Tyler's first marriage ended when his wife cheated. Also something that happens all to often in real life. Tyler managed to hold on to his faith, and have it grow stronger. Isabel had no faith until she met Tyler and the others in Hope Springs. Hope Springs lived up to its name in Isabel's life. She met God there, and learned to trust Him, and learned that God's love is real and will cast out fear. With God, all things are possible, including meeting a wonderful man, who wouldn't take out his short comings on her. Love that she also used her knowledge to help others to change and grow, too.

I received a complimentary copy of this book, was not required to leave a review, and the opinion expressed is my own.

This is a touching story which explores the fearful life of a mother who has had a less than satisfactory home life while growing up, then an abusive marriage. She flees from her ex-husband with thei young daughter, changes their names and tries to find places where she can remain hidden, until she discovers Hope Springs. Once established in a good job at a cherry orchard, Isabel and her daughter, Gabby, start to feel at home, making friends and enjoying life, but the fear is always in the background.

This author, Valerie Bodden, does an excellent job of developing her characters, and sharing their fears, their dreams and their goals. This was an enjoyable read and box 6 in a Series. Books may be read individually, but best enjoyed being read in the series.
