I met this mangaka when the one shot of this story came out.

Now i find out there's two volume out already so I'm catching up on it. This first volume was very entertaining, it's the usual trope of sweet monster (Sada) and a cynic maker (Mamiya) navigating, in this case, Sada's new nature as a living-dead creature. Although Mamiya is the kind of character that might grate you, he goes well with Sada's calm personality. This balance is good enough to keep reafing to discover their past and what's going to happen to them next or how they'd end up as a couple.

Love the popularization of horror BL :3

3.5 rating for both volumes

Excellent art and premise but the actual writing itself falls flat. Probably needed just one more chapter for the ending to not feel abrupt

i love the characters and i do think i'm getting attached to them 😭 they're so awkward, it's just so cute to read. the mention of the give-take relationship between them, and the horror element. it was so gore-y for the few first chapters, but mellowed out through the story and finger crossed the 2nd vol would be back to gore☝️ and honestly i'm looking forward to their relationship development too. to think that they were classmates (?) back in highschool....

While the premise isn't new, this take feels fairly fresh.

I like the art style but there’s a bit too much text in some parts.

I know the doctor isn't supposed to be a nice character but wow he gets scummy. Like, too much too redeem. I honestly reconsidered whether I should keep reading.

In the end, there's barely any plot and we barely learn anything about the characters.

The two most important questions this manga raises are 1) what if Frankenstein and his monster were gay and in love (so what every lit studies paper about the book already discusses) and 2) is it even old man yaoi if one of them doesn't have a prematurely receeding hairline from all the stress...joking of course. it's a lot deeper (how far would you go to stay alive? how far would you go for those you love? how do we justify the horrible things we do, and how do we live with them?). but either way i love it a whole lot, as evidenced by the fact that i just tore through the two books of this series like it was nothing

I really enjoyed the beginning and it would probably have been a big favorite if the whole manga had the same creepy, macabre atmosphere. Unfortunately, it soon becomes much tamer. It's still a nice manga, but I think it had much more potential than this.

I want to start by saying that this is body horror. Of course, it's not going to be for everyone. Just because it's a controversial topic, doesn't immediately mean it's a bad story. Don't immediately say stories/books are bad because you can't handle horror.

With that being said, this manga is not perfect.

I've read Exquisite Corpse by Poppy Brite, so this isn't new to me. I really had high expectations for this manga since I went in thinking that it would have philosophical discussions about life and death, and the morality of resurrecting the dead—or at the very least, have implicit points scattered between the plot and conversations. I guess this had that(?) Albeit, not quite enough to my taste to get the readers pondering. The most the story did was discuss the ethics of bringing the dead back but it's done halfheartedly that I barely cared.

Since it was tagged as horror, I hoped it would serve what it had promised. It did, but I'm left a bit dry. Yes, it's horror—body horror—but the story also tries to be a psychological horror as well which it really underdelivered. (Or maybe I'm numbed to the shock value of both types of horror that the gore in this story barely accounted for the "horror" theme.)

The romance was okay I guess. Sada was understandably resistant at the start but then he became complaisant for no reason later on. Now, this would have been inevitable had his psyche been beaten to the ground or at least the romance had developed at that point but neither of those happened. He honestly has no interesting traits to me, with the exception of his love for the monkey.

Overall, I liked the idea of the story but as a horror fan, this could have needed some more.

This is exactly the type of manga I love. If you know me you know I’m a sucker for these weird and unhinged characters with a creepy ambiance where you don’t understand what is happening or what is gonna happen in the next pages. The last time I had this feeling it was with "In These Words by GuiltPleasure” who is one of my all time favorite story so my expectations are high for this manga.

Mr.Sada is a high school teacher who is appreciated by his colleagues and students. One evening while patrolling the school after class, he saw a suspicious figure attacking a student with a knife. When he tried to escaped he was caught and ended up losing his life… before some hours later waking up on a frozen table.

I can’t even explain how much I liked this first volume. Directly from the start of this manga, it gave me the impression of reading Frankenstein but make it gay and make it gore. Our main character Sada was always considered as this perfect man with good morals and always ready to put others before him, in the space of a night, he died as this perfect human and is rebirth as a human eating monster. Mamiya who saved him by transforming him in this monster, is considered as a crazy man by his colleagues, misunderstood by everyone, he prefers to isolate himself in his laboratory and work on his projects. In Sada he will find a science project he accomplished but more importantly, he will find a life companion.

While the horror and gore is a bit fading away toward the end, leaving its place to a calmer plot, I’m still hoping for it to pick up in the second volume. The ending of this first volume happened so fast and leave you on a cliffhanger. I need to get my hands on volume 2 as soon as I can !!

Queer horror you will always loved by me.

Tw !!

Gay mfs are unhinged. You're gonna do all that to get a boyfriend and/or revenge ?? That's wild.

Anyway I wish I could say that my morale code prevented me from liking this because the shit that happens in this book is Not Great ethically speaking but I still enjoyed it a lot so whatever. (this is hooror, cmon)
I thought the last quarter of this volume went in a direction I wasn't planning and I'm not sure I fully like it, I'll wait and see what happens.
I liked the idea of this being just a Frankenstein science vs. ethics and "if you must kill, who do you chose?" philosophical type of thing (like Death Note kinda, but gayer and morbidder), but if it's more about revenge and circumstances of life and stuff then I don't know if I'll like the second volume as much.
Finally of course, still not a fan of the obligatory SA scene, typical of BLs, even if this one kinda subverted it by turning on the perpertrator and actually named what was happening but still, not fully necessary imo. (I can excuse murder, kidnapping and cannibalising but I draw the line at SA)

TW: Murder, Sexual Assault, Cannibalism, Gore

I got this manga recommendation from Tik Tok and, since is only a 2-volume story, decided to give it a chance; I literally devoured the first part in one sitting, and although this manga is very dialogue heavy and has almost zero action, the conversations between the two main characters about humanity, morals and the worthiness of human life are really well though, and by the end, you get a really good cliffhanger, so I'm bend on finishing this story as soon as possible.

Please, read the trigger warnings and be mindful of those before starting this one.
