A Medium Homecoming is the 2nd book in The Haunted Life Cozy Mysteries written by Lynn Cahoon. I've read most of the author's other series and always enjoyed her character creation, scene setting, and clever plots. This is no exception. Eddie Cayce, a thirtyish single woman, has recently inherited money from her grandmother, and other family members are unhappy they didn't get more. Eddie uses it to open a design firm and antique store in New Orleans, but soon her times is occupied elsewhere; she's also inherited the gift of talking to dead people.
A new marketer that Eddie dislikes and has fired from her account shows up at the store one day, claiming she's been murdered. Eddie does her best to ask questions and find out whether the businesswoman is telling the truth, mostly because of the weird idol that was left behind the same day the woman was last onsite. As she learns more from a Voodoo specialist, Eddie also waffles between two men that have piqued her romantic interest. Cahoon does a fantastic job in this short novella of creating a well-balanced story and setting drama for several books to come. The mystery was lighter than usual but shows lots of promise for the future. I'm looking forward to reading more.

A Medium Homecoming by Lynn Cahoon has Eddie Cayce trying to start anew in again in New Orleans without feeling like a burden to her older brother.
Will Eddie get Tessa to move on before she can hear any more lousy marketing advice?

Eddie is back in New Orleans to live out her life like her family has always wanted for her. She forgot how bad it was living down there with her ability, and now she has to live with her decision. She loves being back in New Orleans but to not seem like an insane person, she uses her phone as an excuse. Eddie is becoming a fantastic character, and I like seeing how she was raised, coming back to her. I love how she helps people who need it and accepts who she is. The one thing that I worry about is the rest of Eddie's family.
The Mystery
The day before, Eddie has a marketing meeting with Doyle and Tessa. They will pitch their ideas for her new store and the rebranding she wants. Only to be blindsided by Tessa's ideas of keeping the original name. Eddie then finds out the next day from Doyle, that Tessa is deceased. Doyle will be handling her account. She sees Tessa's ghost in her shop and has been ordered to find out who killed her. I guessed who killed her, but not the motive that had me stumped. Well, until it was revealed to us, I just thought, well, that's not a great reason to be killed, but oh well.

A Medium Homecoming by Lynn Cahoon had me guessing who could have done it between three suspects. Well, only two in my head, as one of them just didn't fit the bill, and then the other seemed like a big red herring. Ms. Cahoon has a great way of weaving a fabulous tale while sprinkling clues you didn't realize connected until they did. I am giving A Medium Homecoming by Lynn Cahoon five stars and recommending it.

Eddie had a new ghost pestering her for help finding her killer, and the woman was nearly as annoying as she'd been in life, lol. Eddie's plate was super full since she really needed another employee or two. Eddie's crew of employees is becoming more like the work families that I've gotten accustomed to and love about this author's books.
I liked that formerly-homeless Kurt had a suggestion for someone to work there. I also liked that Eddie didn't seem to rebel a whole lot when Nic or the others were telling her she needed protection, especially now with a mysterious new neighbor. I've got a few suspicions about him, but I'm sure more will get revealed in the next book which I can't wait to borrow on KU when it's out!

Eddie Cayce is working hard to get her new business up and running in her hometown of New Orleans. Looking to hire new employees and set up a marketing plan for the grand opening. When the woman doing the marketing presentation pushes some plans that go completely against what Eddie was planning she really isn't impressed that the firm run by an old high school buddy had allowed such a novice to run her campaign. Before the owner gets a chance to fire her, the young woman is found dead - murdered. Her ghost soon begins appearing to Eddie - insisting that she help find her killer. Eddie asks a few questions and eventually finds herself in full investigation mode. Her brother Nic, Detective Boone Charles and Bubba aren't happy about this but she pushes cautiously ahead.
Eddie is also looking at buying a home near the shop so she doesn't have to commute to the family compound every day. Add in some potential romantic interest from a couple of men and the ever looming threat from Aunt Franny who doesn't believe that Eddie deserves the special powers or the financial inheritance. Eddie is doing her best to get this all sorted out but can she reveal the killer before the killer comes after her?
My thoughts:
I'm not a big fan of paranormal books nor do I really believe in such things but I do enjoy the writing of Lynn Cahoon.
The whole seeing ghosts and reading minds is just too out there for me but I do like Eddie as a character. She is doing her best to surround herself with positive and supportive people and with her staff. Not always easy in the real world let alone in the fictional world. As I read these books, I try to look past the paranormal stuff and just focus on the characters and plot. I wasn't overly surprised at who the killer turned out to be.
This was a short (112 pages) read. Ms. Cahoon has nicely set the stage for the next book in the series which comes out in early May 2023.
Eddie is also looking at buying a home near the shop so she doesn't have to commute to the family compound every day. Add in some potential romantic interest from a couple of men and the ever looming threat from Aunt Franny who doesn't believe that Eddie deserves the special powers or the financial inheritance. This is the second book (actually a novella) in the The Haunted Life mystery series by Lynn Cahoon. My only complaint is the shortness of the book. I prefer longer stories.
Eddie Cayce is trying to get her business up and running having returned from the west coast. She has a unique gift passed onto her from her grandmother, she can converse with ghosts. They usually want her to resolve some issues they have before they can move on.
In this installment a young woman, Tessa Hunt, working for the marketing company she has hired dies. Tessa wants Eddie to find out who killed her.
There are twists, turns, and a few ah moments. Her family wants her inheritance and adding to the mix.
I liked the characters except for Tessa and the relatives trying to put it to her and her brother, but aren’t we suppose to dislike them?

Eddie Cayce hires a public relations firm to design a grand opening promotion for her new shop, Cayce's Treasures. The associate assigned to the project, Tessa Hunt, did not want to change the name from the previous name, Goldstein's Antiques. When Eddie said she would consider the presentation and let them know sometime the following week, Tessa was extremely upset and expected an immediate approval. The next day, Eddie has lunch with Doyle Arthur from the PR firm when she learns that Tessa had been killed in her apartment the previous evening. Now Tessa's spirit wants Eddie to find her killer and claims that Eddie Owes Her that much. Eddie has a lot on her plate, with trying to hire staff for her store and looking to buy a place to live.
Who killed Tessa? Why was she killed? Will Eddie be able to unravel the mystery? Can Eddie find the right staff for her store? Will she find the home of her dreams?
Lynn has another wonderful mystery in this latest Haunted Life episode. She has wonderful characters with plenty of twists and turns in the mystery to keep the reader engaged clear to the end.
Who killed Tessa? Why was she killed? Will Eddie be able to unravel the mystery? Can Eddie find the right staff for her store? Will she find the home of her dreams?
Lynn has another wonderful mystery in this latest Haunted Life episode. She has wonderful characters with plenty of twists and turns in the mystery to keep the reader engaged clear to the end.

Eddie Cayce has returned home to New Orleans for better or worse. The gift she received from her grandmother has caused some problems with her aunt who no longer speaks to her. And her talent has increased meaning she sees a lot more ghosts. Still, she's happy with her new antique store. When her marketing associate is found murdered, Eddie is drawn into the investigation when the woman's ghost shows up.
I received an ARC of this book and this is my honest, unbiased review. This is the second book in a new series and I loved both books. This is really shaping up to be an excellent series. This well-written book has wonderful characters and I was hooked from beginning to end. The mystery will keep you on your toes and guessing throughout. This was an absolutely captivating story and I am very eager for the next book. I highly recommend both book and series which I suggest you read in order.

Tessa, a PR and Advertising executive, presents Eddie with a set of proposals which directly contradict the brief she was given. The following day she’s found dead – smothered!
And, it seems, voodoo may have been involved.
“A Medium Homecoming” is a slightly odd read. The murder, for example, is solved through photography and CCTV – there's no paranormal involvement. It is also let down by poor editing.
The story moves quite slowly and isn’t quite a standalone – it reads more like half a book than a full one (which was also true of the first in the series.)
However, it has a certain charm and was quite a likeable read on a rainy day.

This is a great series. I loved the first book and this one. I would have given it 5 stars except for the many typos, grammar errors, misused words, the annoying point of view shifts from first to third person, and a character name shift from Ava to Mona and back again. Ms. Cahoon is an excellent writer who needs a better editor and proofreader, preferably one who knows the difference between province and provenance. Eddie is a likable and well-rounded heroine. Her ability to see and talk with ghosts adds an extra dimension to the story. She's hiring new staff for her antiques shop, and the employees are shaping up to be an integral part of the series. The mystery, voodoo, and NOLA setting all make this series a winner.

Well this was a fun little treat. I do enjoy a little paranormal/supernatural elements here and there and I love her Kitchen Witch series, so I knew it wouldn’t be over done. Throw in a little mystery and murder and old buildings of New Orleans and that is just a recipe for fun.
As a local, there were a just a few things a little stereo typical but not enough to ruin the story for me. There was just enough “extra” for entertainment. Good Job, Lynn.
I read the first and second books back to back and now I’m sad that I have to wait until Spring for book 3.
If you are looking for a quick mystery read with quirky characters, engaging plot, and a great setting… this is for you.

Eddie Cayce is back home in New Orleans trying to set up her antique store and decorating business. She needs a home besides the family compound and she wants a dog. All ambitions that will take time and concentration, but she also has to contend with ghosts and a coming extended family conflict.
The mystery is an interesting one that brings in more elements of New Orleans heritage and diversity.

This is the second book of the series and I liked it better than the first. The main characters are full of life, mystery, goodness, and the need to help others. The plot is easily followed, despite the switch backs and red herrings and the story is peppered with a family squabble about to explode, so lots going on. I am very impressed with the writing and looking forward to more. I definitely recommend this book.

This second installment of this series is even better than the first. We get to find out more about Eddie, her family & the issues surrounding it and get to watch Eddie as she starts building her business out. Unfortunately there's also a body & this one's ghost starts following Eddie to get her to solve its murder.
I will always recommend Lynn's books highly. This series even more so! Cannot wait for the next

I enjoyed this second book in the series.
Eddie Cayce is trying to get her new business up and running, hire new staff, buy a condo and juggle two admirers even though she has made it clear she is not ready to date just yet. Throw in an annoying murdered PR rep who doesn’t listen to her clients wants and now as a ghost is still annoying and a mysterious neighbor and she has her hands more than full.
It is a great story with interesting characters but it wraps up too quickly.

The only complaint I have about any of the novellas in the Haunted Life series is that they’re novellas and not full length mysteries! Just when I’ve settled in and am deeply enjoying a visit to the ghostly side of New Orleans with Eddie and her pals...bang, it’s over. Here’s hoping there will be many more entertaining trips in our future!

I really enjoyed this book. It was nice getting back into Eddie's life. Always so busy with the shop, and her mysteries to solve. The interesting "love triangle" that makes the dynamic entertaining. What I really enjoy is the brother sister bond. The "gifts" they all have make the town seem more interesting. I am excited to read more.

A new ish series. Eddie returned to New Orleans and bought an antique store complete with ghosts. In this book she is trying to hire staff and get publicity going. And buy a home of their own. When the publicist working on her account is murdered and the young woman’s ghost asks her for help, what else is she to do? An excellent read. My only complaint is this book was too short!

A fun quick read! Trying to get her antique store and her decorating business up and running, Eddie has her hands full. Full of fun quirky characters. Love the Louisana setting! And Dexter makes an appearance! Thanks for the eARC in exchange for an honest review. Readers will have a fun time with this cozy!

Love this series. If you have time to read something quick and easy, this is it. Interesting descriptions of New Orleans. Ghosts, people talking to ghosts and they say it is common. Oh, and there is a murder with the ghost of the murdered person trying to help.

A Medium Homecoming, the 2nd book in the Haunted Life Cozy Mystery Series captivated me as much as A Medium Fate, loved them both. I appreciate that Lynn Cahoon gives us a strong paranormal feel without over playing that aspect. The comradery and sense of community are as strong as the mystery.

Intriguing!
The story continues to unfold as some mysteries are solved and others surface to take their place. New Orleans is a perfect setting for this latest offering from favored author Lynn Cahoon. Can’t wait to read more.

The mystery was interesting right up until the end, when the arrest of the guilty party happened out of sight of the first person narrator, so the author had another character tell what happened. The first rule of good writing is show, don't tell.

A fun, interesting read.
This is a book that grabs you from the first page and it kept me interested until the end. I read the first two books in the same day and am putting off reading the third one because I don’t want to finish it.
