Lev Nikolayevich Tolstoy (Russian: Лев Николаевич Толстой; most appropriately used Liev Tolstoy; commonly Leo Tolstoy in Anglophone countries) was a Russian writer who primarily wrote novels and short stories. Later in life, he also wrote plays and essays. His two most famous works, the novels War and Peace and Anna Karenina, are acknowledged as two of the greatest novels of all time and a pinnacle of realist fiction. Many consider Tolstoy to have been one of the world's greatest novelists. Tolstoy is equally known for his complicated and paradoxical persona and for his extreme moralistic and ascetic views, which he adopted after a moral crisis and spiritual awakening in the 1870s, after which he also became noted as a moral thinker and social reformer.

His literal interpretation of the ethical teachings of Jesus, centering on the Sermon on the Mount, caused him in later life to become a fervent Christian anarchist and anarcho-pacifist. His ideas on nonviolent resistance, expressed in such works as The Kingdom of God Is Within You, were to have a profound impact on such pivotal twentieth-century figures as Mohandas Gandhi and Martin Luther King, Jr.

অভিনব একটা জিনিস চোখে পড়ল। ভালুকেরা বাড়ি ফিরে যখন এক এক করে অভিযোগ করতে শুরু করলো দেখা গেলো ফন্টের তারতম্য। বড় ভালুকের উঁচু গলার স্বর বড় ফন্টে, মেঝো ভালুকেরটা মাঝারি আকারের হরফে, আর মিশুৎকা নামের ছোট ভালুকের চিঁচিঁ মার্কা স্বর ছোট্ট-ছোট্ট ফন্টে। ব্যাপারটা বেশ মজা লাগলো।

اذكر أنني كنت احب قصة الدببة الثلاث والبنت في صغري، لست متأكدة من اصلها الحقيقي* ولكن الآن اقرأها بقلم ليف تولستوي.
القصة كما أذكرها تقريبا وطبعاً لان الدببة روس فالأب سيكون ميخايلو إيڤانيتش، الأم ناستاسيا بيتروفنا والابن ميشوتكن ولا أعلم اسم البنت المشاكسة.

القراءة جدًا جدًا سهلة ولم تشكل اَي تحدي لغوي ولا يوجد اَي تميز في الكتابة.

В детских книгах Толстого особенно заметно, что стиль у него не так уж и хорош. Берёшь с полки эту книгу после, например, "Гусей-лебедей" в пересказе другого Толстого или там "Лисички со скалочкой" в пересказе Булатова, начинаешь читать ребёнку - и сразу чувствуешь, что язык начинает запинаться. Откладываешь, берёшь того же Сутеева - опять хорошо идёт.

This little story represents quite an achievement for me--it's the first (and hopefully not last!) story I have ever read in Russian! Это первый рассказ, который я когда-либо прочитал по-русски.

As far as the content...it's "The Story of the Three Bears." Nothing more need be said, does it?

The book is colorful and appealing to the eye, but it is printed on very cheap, flimsy paper that tore as I was removing it from the packaging. It would never survive as a child's storybook.
