Something Different

Rate this book
Elaine Carter made the decision that her view of life and marriage was more appropriate than her husband’s. Oh, she loved her husband without question, or reservation, but she decided her stepping outside her marriage vows was a minor bump in the road, and should not impact her relationship with her husband. It was, after all, only sex. The tawdry nature of the extramarital sex was irrelevant as far as Elaine was concerned. Jack was hers, and always would be. That was just a fact of life as Elaine viewed life.
Jack Carter, however, did not play that game. And, Jack… well, his response was to nuke the planet to ash. That response should have been expected by one and all. It was, after all, who Jack was.
Naturally, everyone in Jack and Elaine’s life took sides… and those siding with Elaine also suffered Jack’s wrath… because Jack was not one to ignore, or forgive, an offense. Ever.
The fallout from Jack’s response not only left him with a divorce and gobs of money, but a transfer to an out-of-the-way office filled with less than stellar co-workers who wanted nothing to do with him. When Jack splattered the world around him, he splattered in a major way. He arrived at that office without expectation other than to pursue the job he loved – even if he did so alone.
Jack’s world was then turned on its ear, and things would never again be the same for him. Some of those he left behind, and some completely unknown to him, wanted Jack’s head in a basket. He knew they were there in the shadows, but they were very wrong to think he would ignore them. Jack was Jack, and he played by his own rules. Yet, new arrivals in his life had their own agenda... and that agenda was more than Jack could comprehend.
His life went from seriously trashed, to seriously... weird.
Still, Jack was Jack. That meant more than any crap coming his way... didn't it?

Although this story has elements of a cheating wife/cuckold/husband revenge, the bulk of this story merely has those elements as backdrop. It is more a story about relationships and values – and how changes in relationships and one’s values impacts and alters a life. There is some minor graphic sex and quite a bit of foul language, so this story is intended for those 18+.

What the heck was that! This is the fourth book I have read from this author and I thought I had it figured out. Guys gets cheating on in some terrible way but the women cheating doesn't think it is that big a deal. Guy gets either revenge or leaves and works on himself. Women is either remorseful and works on herself of thinks she is remorseful but doesn't change. This one started off like the others. Wife brings MC to a BBQ party which turns out to be a sex club. She has been coming here having every kind of sex imaginable for 11 months and wants the husband to join. She doesn't see this a cheating though as it is just sex. He disagrees and divorces her. He goes scorched earth on everyone involved and ruins their lives after he finds out how messed up everything was. It was pretty bad too. All this happened in the first 15 percent of the book. The rest of the book got even weirder. It was somewhat of a detective novel at that point. I did like Jack and I liked how he explained his process for finding fugitives. The actual story was just really out there This one was all shock with no payoff for me.

To say this story is wild would be an understatement.

This is more of a detective novel than erotica, but there are some good dashes to spice things up. The biggest “like” for me in this book is the characters. They are quirky, entertaining, unpredictable and endearing. The story is a rollercoaster with no guardrails; I kept reading because I wanted to know what twist came next.

For many readers of erotica, the sexual side may disappoint. For this reader, this is the type of erotica I prefer; good story, relatable characters with depth, and strong sexual undertones.

A highly recommended 5 Stars. Suggest you leave any reality checks at the door.

(SPOILER ALERT - I was disappointed that Sammi ran away from both Jack and Sioux City. That she stuck with Jeremy was fine. I thought she was tougher than that. Characters/people are funny - that’s what makes them interesting.)

A gritty grab you by the bxlls story

Misspelling is on purpose! I went into this story not expecting much but became a die hard fan! I liked that the relationships were complicated and messy just like real life. There is plenty of tangled side detective work and action to keep the story interesting! I hope there will be a follow up story! I really enjoyed this story and fingers crossed for a sequel!

Reads like a True Detective novel

To quote a French Canadian friend..."Tabernac on Toast"! For my American friends, I would say: "Toto, we are NOT in Kansas anymore"! Great story, lots of action, great plot twists. Very, very different from the author's other stories...and it's entertaining.

This is truly a page turner. Couldn't put this one down wanting to see what happens next. Good character development as a man deals with his past wanting to go forward but others make it very difficult. AND a twist at the end... Read it!

Best Yet

I was torn between this and Suitable Substitute as my favorite from the author. After a second read, I found Cynthia’s character tipped the scale for this one. She’s my favorite character so far and enjoyed her story as much as the MC.

Good book, fun read, plenty of sarcasm and sass.

A top notch read Mr. Mathison. Sprinkled with a few explicit heterosexual sex scenes and it would have been perfect.
Just wish some of your cohorts followed your lead with intriguing plots incorporating swinging and wife swapping plus some unfaithful wives / partners being caught and punished.
Yeeah, Who Came up With This HotWife stuff?? Another great read and my sentiments.

One of the first stories of Mr Mathison that I read. Enjoyed the story, from start to finish. After finishing this story I went on reading the rest of his books
