Belladonna Nightshade finds herself involved in another murder mystery when the man playing Santa for Winterfield is found dead at the holiday house in the town square. This case has a wickedly festive twist.
She’ll have to depend on her friends, family, and a touch of magic to solve the mystery and clear a good friend’s name of suspicion before it’s too late.
Sara Bourgeois is a Midwesterner through and through. She spends her time writing, reading, herding cats, and standing in her driveway during tornado warnings. (You can't see them from the basement.)
Bella is faced with more than a few challenges trying to live a normal-ish life.
Her crazy witchly family and friends, living and dead, are determined to be who and as they desire. Her granny seems torn between wanting more babies and being afraid of the connection between Bella and Ben.
A wicked witch who left behind ongoing collateral damage, alongside a few out of whack citizens- things are more than a bit crazy in this town - and more seems likely ahead!
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
I have really enjoyed many of Sara’s series. This book though was a little too scattered for me. I guess the story was supposed to be disorienting to give you the feel of what the characters were going through? But it went too far off the rails. I was really looking forward to this book but I felt it went too far off the original plot line for Sterling.
3.5 stars. Light, paranormal romance mystery read. If you want something quick and like the genre, pick up this series....some additional editing was needed for the series, but it’s still a decent read.
So it starts with the fake Santa getting killed. Lots of white fur points to a shifter. Everyone wonders if it's Luke is the killer and Murriel is in tears. But the Nightshade family is on the trail.
Great second book. The characters are really coming into their own now. Plus the romance is pacing along well. Can everyone work together to find out who killed Santa? Highly recommended for all who love paranormal cozies.
This book kept my interest, the characters are believe-able, but the story kept losing me . The character’s and story is well written , this paranormal mystery is just not for me.
Great light reading to another version of our world of where supernaturals and humans mix. Great for cuddling up and warming up by the fire or inside heater,
This is a well written and has well developed characters. The story is catching and with the strong characters makes for a very enjoyable read. Great Reading Everyone!
Belladonna heard a scream outside her beauty salon. Mrs Frost, wife of the Chief of Police, was on her cell phone and upset. She said that Santa was dead! Santa happened to be an ex-con relative that they hired for the holiday. Detective Ben, Bella’s boyfriend, showed up on the scene to start the investigation. Bella went through the list of suspects – those she had seen in town that morning – and did not find a likely culprit. But when she called her friend, Murielle, the librarian was crying because her boyfriend, Luke, had been suspended from the force. It wasn’t said outright, but since he was a shifter and the murder was so savage . . .
Detective Ben entered the salon to ask the ladies questions. Mona remembered seeing a huge white animal of some sort running near the diner, but the sun glare kept her from being sure what it was. Luke was a black wolf, so that could be important.
The clues were adding up and pointing in all directions. Would Ben or Bella be able to solve this mystery before more harm came to the town? Would justice be served in time for a happy Christmas?
I loved the characters in this book. There were various kinds of paranormals there, which made it fun and quirky. I also think it was a good mystery, so I have no problem recommending it! I think it’s worth reading.
Bella and Ben are at it again. Ben is more understanding of Bella's magic. Guess what, a surprise is revealed about Ben. The illusion spell is like swimming through a dream sequence. There are a lot of twists. Intriguing cliffhangers are found at the end. I like the characters and the story. I look forward to the next book.
Festively Hexed is the first book I've read by this author, although it is the second in a series. This left me slightly confused while reading but not much so that I didn't get the gist of things and I was able to follow the non-witchy storyline with no trouble. I didn't like the format of this mystery as much as others I've read but that's just my personal preference. I like when the main character tracks down clues and uses their intuition (and sometimes leaps of logic, backed up by evidence) to bring the culprit to justice, whereas this book seemed to just have a mystery that was not so much solved by the main character(s) but the solution to which was revealed by magical means. If this is your thing, great! I think anyone who likes fantastical magical elements would enjoy this book and I do recommend it.
What a fun read! What could be more perfect than finding Santa dead in his workshop the day it's supposed to open for the holiday season? Throw in some good witches, a few shifters, and a new vampire in the neighborhood...and you have Festively Hexed.
This is a great little read just in time for the holidays. It's got romance, mystery, and secrets which makes it ideal for a quick read. It's a truly delightful read! (I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book and really enjoyed it!
Luke the wolf shifter is acting strange. Santa is murdered and a white monster is stalking people in the town. Then, the illusions begin. Can the witches get out and save the town? Things we thought we knew from the first book change and we start a new mystery at the end. Intriguing and PG rated. These books are a different take on magical creatures and witches. Always surprising.
I think these stories are nice, but seriously, calling Ben Detective Ben , it's like reading a Dick and Jane book. Hopefully the grammar errors, etc., will improve in the books. I LOVE that these books are ones I can share with my teenage nieces!
Since I don't normally write reviews unless I have something specific to say, here's the break down of how I rate my books...
1 star... This book was bad, so bad I may have given up and skipped to the end. I will avoid this author like the plague in the future.
2 stars... This book was not very good, and I won't be reading any more from the author.
3 stars... This book was ok, but I won't go out of my way to read more, But if I find another book by the author for under a dollar I'd pick it up.
4 stars... I really enjoyed this book and will definitely be on the look out to pick up more from the series/author.
5 stars... I loved this book! It has earned a permanent home in my collection and I'll be picking up the rest of the series and other books from the author ASAP.
