The crown I never wanted could save me...

Well, I'm locked up in prison and I've lost my magic. Not what I expected, to say the least. To make things worse, my husband locked me in here. 'To have and to hold' doesn't necessarily apply when you're the king and queen of a fae court.

A chance at freedom comes when our realm is attacked by an ancient enemy. Lore releases me to help defeat the evil that is devouring our kingdom, but it's going to be a dangerous battle. My only chance is to get my magic back, but that's easier said than done.

As Lore and I are forced to work together, the passion that flares between us is impossible to ignore. Our marriage is a sham, but that doesn't matter when we find ourselves trapped in close quarters. With everything on the line, its going to take everything I have to survive.

A Crown of Starlight is the thrilling conclusion to the Court of Starlight and Darkness Series.

Before becoming a writer, Linsey was an archaeologist who studied shipwrecks in all kinds of water, from the tropics to muddy rivers (and she has a distinct preference for one over the other). After a decade of tromping around in search of old bits of stuff, she settled down to start penning her own adventure novels and is freaking delighted that people seem to like them. Since life is better with a little (or a lot of) magic, she writes urban fantasy and paranormal romance.

I genuinely loved the first two books in this series. I was immediately sucked into the world and its characters, but this book really fell short of my expectations. The entire novel felt rushed. There was such little detail, and each challenge Sia faced was overcome in just a few pages. This book felt more like the cliff notes or an outline than an actual book. Had this book taken more time to really develop the plot and characters (especially the relationship between Sia and Lore), I think it would’ve been amazing. I was really disappointed that this is how the series ended.

2023 reads: 26/350

this is the conclusion to the court of starlight and darkness series.

somehow, though sia is currently locked in prison and her magic has been taken from her, she is still supposed to defeat the witch with deathly magic…who, coincidentally, is herself. lore eventually releases her, but it will still be a hard battle. plus, they’re finding it increasingly difficult to deny their attraction for one another…

this conclusion, though short, got the job done and i can’t really think of anything that was left out. i love the growth we saw in sia and lore’s relationship, especially with how it ended! i’m definitely interested in checking out more of this author’s work because this series was so quick yet fun to read.

I wanted to like this series so much because it had so much potential but it fell flat for me. The entire series could’ve went into more detail with literally everything but it seems like everything was on a strict “need to know basis”, making everything feel rushed.
ALL of the characters were superficial to me and lacked so much depth and development. Are we ever gonna know what happened to Meria’s family to get them exiled?? Why didn’t we get more details about Sia’s parent since everyone seemed to know who they were?
Why did the Irish court have animosity with the court of starlight and darkness? Was the curse Vusario lifted after he was killed? Did King Lore ever remove the curse he placed on himself? So many questions left unanswered.
Sia as a whole irritated me, for her to be 25 her character was so naive and juvenile! Why did she think everyone was her friend and why did she constantly find herself being the damsel in distress??? And what was up with her inner voice constantly calling herself a nerd? As for King Lore, okay we get it, you feel guilty for being a young adult and getting your people killed for it, GET OVER IT. What irritated me the most was that King Lore really didn’t trust himself enough to even try to explore a relationship with Sia. He’s been alive for centuries and yet acts like a teenager afraid of expressing his feelings.
This series definitely lacked in so many areas and just felt incomplete

A Bit Disappointing

I like Lindsey Hall's writing and have read a lot of her work. Most of her books are interesting and well-written, wth gripping plots and cool characters, but this series isn't up to the standard of the rest of her work. I enjoyed the story but it was a bit predictable and "they lived happily ever after", and if you took out the endless pages where Sia and Lore are agonising over their fears instead of getting busy, the whole thing would have fitted into one book. If you're a Lindsey Hall fan, this one may disappoint you.

Satisfying ending to the story but this book felt a bit rushed. The first one in this series was definitely my favorite but the dialogue just got repetitive. Also I wasn’t a huge fan of the “get over it nerd” self-talk in this series. Like where did that come from? Haha. I ended up skimming most of the last 30% of this book just to get to the ending and I don’t feel like I missed much.

I really loved the premise of this series and enjoyed reading it for the most part. It definitely had the potential to be great but it just needed more character development.

the series was just Okay to begin with, not great but the premise was interesting, but the worldbuilding was poor at best and the pacing was really off in this last book. many scenes that could and should have been explored in a lot more depth were glossed over in a page or two, and there was no character development to be seen. the relationship was just bad - lore was an absolute asshole with zero emotional intelligence for all three books right up until literally the last five pages when he suddenly decides to just change???

the writing was either bland or distractingly bad

“The hope in her eyes made something warm ignite in my chest. I was entirely unfamiliar with the feeling, but I thought it might be something like hope.”

the hope in her eyes made you feel something that might be hope?????? bro stfu

this felt so rushed and sloppy, i was not expecting anything good from this book but it definitely could have been Less Bad :/

I loved the first two novels. I loved the characters, was sucked into the fae world created, and the plot. However, this was my least favorite. For what was the series clencher, it felt like she wrapped up as quickly as possible without stopping to describe the means behind it. What were big challenges were either not described or a couple pages . They also never explained Meria and her love interest but kept suggesting something would happen. Possibly another series? Overall, sad this ended this way because I was looking forward to it and the slow burn romance. I feel Lore and Sia deserved more depth and development.

Excellent series!

I give this book a 4.5 rating, rounded up to 5. I’ll explain my reasoning later. This book picks-up where book 2 left off . . . With Sia imprisoned at the high council. It’s not looking too good for our heroine. Lore wants to believe her so badly. The main thrust of this book is the reveal of who was behind the series of events that led to the war with the Northern Fae. While I didn’t see it coming for most of the series, towards the end of book 2 there were some signs, so by the time the reveal came, it wasn’t a total shocker. Still thoroughly enjoyable though. There was a bit of a plot twist that I didn’t see coming that just made it all the more juicy. There is a plague let loose on Lore and Sia’s realm, and another war is afoot. Sia is determined to not only save “her people” (as she has come to feel for them) but also Lore himself.

Still loving the character and world building. There were a few things that never were fully resolved for which I have some lingering questions. Not sure if this is the end of this universe of characters, or if the author has another series in mind here - Like maybe Meria’s story?! And Eve . . . I want to see her get a HEA too. I’m hopeful because I’d love to know the answers. For this reason and the speed at which the final battle was resolved are the reasons for my 4.5, rather than a full-throated 5 star rating. I felt the ending was too rushed for my liking. I mean after the final battle, and short epilogue then BAM! Done. Sorry, I wanted to be let down a bit more gently, and sweetly.

Anyway, even though there were a few loose ends, I thoroughly enjoyed this series. I would highly recommend it to any fan of PNR books, particularly fae stories.

I no longer fear the last book in this author’s series because I know she’ll come up with something wonderful and new next, so I was eager to dive into this series ender. As with just about every book I’ve read by this author, this latest is filled with lots of action and adventure. I’ll admit that I didn’t warm up a whole lot to Lore, but I love that not all this author’s characters are the same. I loved Sia partly because she was so filled with excitement, strength, and determination. Even when Lore tried to push her away, she was having none of it. Great book filled with action, romance, and adventure. Recommend. I was provided a complimentary copy which I voluntarily reviewed.

This was a little more simplistic than I thought it would be as a conclusion to the series but still enjoyable overall. The villain reveal was cool. I wish there had been more background and depth for some of the side characters and more chemistry/smut between Lore and Sia. Fun read regardless!

fantastic read

A brilliant ending to a king and dangerous journey, with light, stars, magic, betrayal and love.
Lore and Sia a perfect match but they could still be doomed

Magnificent Read

This was truly a magnificent read! Each following book was better than the previous one. Linsey Hall definitely knows how to build up a story and follow through with an incredible ending. Once I started reading these books I could no t put them down until I finished the book. It took me a day and a half to read all 3 books. This isn’t just a story about Sia and Lore falling in love, but also of fate, Sia searching for her parents, an enemy holding a long time grudge, curses and so much more. Read this trilogy you will not be disappointed.

Honestly, to say I didn't enjoy this book would be a lie. I did enjoy it. But I think of the entire trilogy, A Crown of Starlight was my least favorite. I enjoyed the previous 2 books so much more. I enjoyed the world building, the characters, even the dialogue. I loved the tenacity of these characters, their motivations. I was so excited for the conclusion of this trilogy and while the ending was satisfactory, I felt like it was a bit rushed (kinda)? A lot of things happened in such a short space of time and I can't help but think if it were fleshed out a bit more, I would've enjoyed it more.
I felt like the final battle wasn't as exciting as previous scenes. And truthfully I felt like the villain was taken down so easily considering the intricacies of the plan. There were things mentioned book that were never mentioned again and I'm wondering if the author would be visiting this world again to touch on these things?
The last thing is I noticed that characters who were important in the previous 2 books served no purpose in this book and there were there solely because they were important in the previous books.

All in all, the book is a 3/5 for me. It was quite enjoyable all things considered but I can't help being disappointed which is truthfully because I expected more.

I'm writing this "review" over half a year after having read this and only remember the vaguest details about this whole series, I'm relying entirely on notes I took at the time, so here they are:

• Bored and considered DNFing yet again.
• Lore has had almost no character development the entire series.*
• *What a surprise, it happens all at once right at the very end.
• Sia suddenly knows more about this world than was told to the reader with no explanation of how she got that information.

• Still felt like an edited first draft.
• I wish I hadn't wasted my time on this series.

The only reason why I did read this series was because the books were so short and the endings kept me intrigued. But the reason the books were so short was because they weren't fleshed out enough.

The biggest issue…well other than the language used, Lore saying “Definitely”, and others are just annoying…was that Sia disappeared from her life in Seattle and she was never once concerned about anyone? Or that anyone would care for her??? Did she know no one??? What about her boss, coworkers, neighbors? People that at least are used to her presence. And then she just showed back up at her apartment after how long and nothing?!?!?! The ending was anticlimactic, it didn’t capture my attention and I couldn’t tell you in detail how Vusario’s shadow was defeated. There wasn’t enough details, it was all shallow and on the surface. Which works for some books but I wanted more depth and it was just lacking.

No me ha gustado esta trilogía. Me ha parecido muy meh, ya he leído esta historia en muchos libros, se repiten y no tienen nada novedoso. Los protagonistas me han parecido muy insulsos y sin nada de química.

So. I was very in to this series, so much so that as soon as I finished book 2, I got started on book 3. Hall did a wonderful job of setting things up. I liked how Lore and Sia's relationship was progressing...slowly but with lots of promise. I liked the way the plot took a hard left turn (but a believable one that you could almost see coming)…all in all I was really enjoying the series.

Which is why I'm so disappointed with book 3.

We had two whole books of setup and teases...and then A Crown of Starlight is just more of the same with a lukewarm conclusion. It's like there was so much put in to the first 2 book and then the third was just thrown together. I'll explain, but there are some mild spoilers.

Overall, I'm glad I read the series. I wish the final book had been as strong/stronger than the first two, but if I look at it as a whole, it's a good story.

Well, here I am after gradually getting through books 1 & 2, but I must admit, book 3 really surprised me. The writing appeared much stronger and the world-building + action was on point. We also get to really dive into these characters more in depth (and we're introduced to some new ones - loved Frankie!) as opposed to 1&2 where it felt very much surface level information and left no room for any real connection to the characters.

Lore - As much as I wanted to love him as a typical antagonist in a romance/fantasy novel, it wasn't there for me. He was hugely contradictory and oftentimes plain childish. For example, him exclaiming, "she was my everything" then quickly to himself, "I just needed to get away from her. Needed to be reminded of my duty." Like c'mon, pick one! The contradiction comes into play when he time after time again felt the need to be reminded of his duty to protect his people because of his past, then a second later says, "Now wasn't the time to succumb to the past." Like bro, really? Additionally, the romance fell flat for me and it oftentimes felt forced.

Sia ended up growing on me (never thought I'd say that!). But perhaps it was when she finally was able to meet her parents we saw some REAL emotion from her, that I felt somewhat of a connection.

Overall, this series ended up growing on me and I got exactly what I was looking for in the end. I'm glad I stuck with it and didn't give up on book 2.

A Court of Starlight and Darkness is Linsey Hall's newest fantasy trilogy! COSAD starts out shadowing Sia, a human orphan living a humdrum boring existence as a freelance movie reviewer. Everything changes when she receives a tip that could potentially give her the information she's been longing for about who her parents are, and why they abandoned her. Her questionable choices, and even more questionable attire, find Sia entering a dive bar only to end fishnets-over-head, slung across a strange man's shoulder. Whisked away to another world, Sia realizes her days of the mundane have come to an end...

Forced to enter a marriage competition, COSAD's first book Forest of Stars gives readers a lovely mix of The Selection series by Kiera Cass, but totally in a Hunger Games you might day kind of way. Kiss of Shadow and Crown of Starlight are all heated glances, prophetic dark clouds, and lovers' angst. This fantasy has funny bits, friendship highs, and dark magic lows - so, basically, it's perfection! Find out why Sia was selected, how she hides her humanity amongst the powerful fae, who her parents really are, and if love finds its way through this Court's twisted maze of death!

I've been on a high fantasy kick, and enjoyed this series a bunch. That said, I'm torn.

On the one hand, there's Sarah Maas and Jennifer Armentrout, who write snarky, sassy, fierce heroines who grow into their lives and you can watch the growth. Sometimes it is painfully slow, sometimes it is Mary Sue adjacent, but it's a progression. There's also the stoey, which has layers and hidden bits and is either plotted out meticulously or added on like the writer is saying "oh, you liked THAT? Well, hold my beer." But they get BIG, and sometimes complicated.

This series is not that. It's is very fast paced, and not all that complicated, although A LOT happens. The first one was more complex; the last two turned into paint by numbers that I absorbed in a day. There was some beautiful scenery and descriptions, dialog and action, but it wasn't....it was fast. I didn't have to think. It was like watching the Die Hard movies - you jumped on and let it carry you away without asking a whole bunch of questions.

Ultimately, this series was fun, but too fast, and not quite satisfying. And also...while it is a high fantasy romance, I'm a little surprised that after a lot of yearning and some fooling around, there is one intimate scene, and it's kind of "wham, bam, yay us, now let's go kill monsters." It didn't match, in terms of resolution.

So, fun series, zippy story, but it's not going to stick with me.

Enduring Love

I really loved this book,
It also gives the reader a fascinating story of a man who has is rittled with guilt by his past mistakes and is constantly reminded that his People are his priority and his responsibility. He never puts himself above his People. He has never had a chance of being happy or even loved, because of his own self deprecating behavior.
This starts to be affected when he sees a woman who has been foretold by the Seer to be his mated one and she is to be his Queen. But, he’s determined that he will not let her. He has no intention of having her be his Real Queen in the marriage way. Unfortunately when she comes to his world they have an immediate pull towards each other and it makes it difficult for them both.
But will King Lore finally let his guard down and forgive himself and move forward and make her his true Queen and Wife? Or Will he do as he intended and when he defeats the curse that’s upon his land and send her back to her own world and wallow in self hatred and pity for the rest of his existence.

I don't know how she does it!

Sia is imprisoned but, at least she is in Lore's dungeons. Sadly, Eve and Meria are imprisoned in other cells as well. She convinces Lore to at least have someone look into the fact that the destruction she caused was unintentional. He has someone look into it and finds she is right. Vusario still has all of her power that he stole from her and it is weakening her terribly. Lore shares his power with her so they can figure out how to defeat Vusario and get back Sia's power. Can they figure it out and defeat him in time to save the kingdom, stave off war with the others on the council and get her power back?
This book was completely amazing and I loved it! I have read every single book by this inkslinger's and with each new series and book her writing and storytelling gets even better! There is absolutely no way I can even begin to do this book and series justice in my review. I will say this book made me cry and that is a rarity. Go grab the series and read it, you will be thoroughly thrilled and ecstatic that you did.

I read the entire trilogy in 2 days. I love the plot and the idea of a slow burn romance but the entire trilogy took place in a matter of a couple of weeks (if that). The whole thing felt rushed and though I love the description and personality of the characters, I wish there was more build up. Why is Sia’s inner dialogue always calling herself a nerd and what was her life in foster care/in the human world like? What happened to Meira’s family to get them banished? What’s Eve’s and Dain’s story? Why had Lore had experience being in a cell? Are mates a thing in this universe and if not, why was there that strong connection between Sia and Lore? What was the curse on Lore like and how was it different when it was lifted? That seemed like an after though to spice the plot up at the very end and nothing came of it.
They were very quick reads. I wish the author took more time for those more in-depth character developments and spread the plot out more. I think this book’s timeline was just a matter of 2-3 days total for the characters (same timing for the other two books).
