I thought this author did an incredible job of taking on such a sensitive subject as domestic abuse. I really found myself trying to picture myself in Erin's shoes. How would I feel? What would I have done? It pretty much had me on pins and needles throughout the book.
If you have read the first book in the series, which you don't have to to be able to read this one, you do learn that Erin is in hiding from her ex. Thankfully, there is very minimal scenes with actual abuse in the book. I'm one of those readers that would have found it hard to read in-the-moment scenes like that.
However, you do learn some of the things he did to her because this book is her journey to shedding off the victim that she was and learning to become her new self. One of the great things about this book is the support system Erin had. The only good person from her old life was her sister and seeing her now with the support of Parker and Matt's family, she shined.
Matt was more than I expected. The way he took care in his pursuit of Erin showed how unselfish he was and how much he truly put her first. It really showed how much someone can blossom under the right kind of love and care. What a really great message to receive from a story.
Home To Me is Catherine Bybee's second book in her Creek Canyon series. And what a wonderful read it is! The author gives us a well-written and challenging tale of spousal abuse amidst a story of new beginnings for main character Erin Fleming. A fast paced tale involving wonderful and realistic characters, romance and suspense. The story continued to get better as it progressed leading to a fabulous ending. Loved it!
Thank you to NetGalley and Montlake Romance for an arc of this novel in exchange for my honest review.
It’s no secret that I’m a HUGE Catherine Bybee fan, and I’d been anxiously awaiting Home to Me since about three minutes after I finished the first book in this series. While I didn’t love this one as much as I did My Way to You (Canyon Creek #1), Home to Me hit all the spots that reinforce why I enjoy Ms. Bybee’s books so dang much!
Erin Fleming lives in a guesthouse on a semi-secluded piece of land in the Santa Clarita Valley and does her best to keep to herself. But over the past year she’s gotten to be friends with her landlord Parker, and Parker’s younger brother and sister. When Parker starts dating Colin, Colin’s brother Matt becomes smitten with his brother’s girlfriend’s tenant.
It doesn’t take long for Parker, Colin, and Matt to figure out Erin is probably hiding from an abusive past. That suspicion is all it takes for firefighter Matt’s protective instincts to go full court press in making sure Erin feels safe.
There is a simplicity to this story that I really, really enjoyed. There’s no drawn-out drama, no unnecessary angst, just people who meet and have some obstacles to deal with on the way to falling in love. Erin’s world is intentionally small, and Matt does his best to gently bulldoze his way into her life. He’s the stereotypical charming, playboy firefighter who has a reputation for being a bit of a player...but has recently started to think it’s time to settle down. I liked how their relationship developed naturally and at a realistic pace. Erin’s secret is revealed when it needed to be, and not a moment longer. So often authors drag out the big reveal forrr-evvv-errr, and I appreciated that not only was the reader not kept in the dark, but neither was the hero. I also really liked how Erin isn’t a damsel in distress, and Matt is all about giving Erin the tools to take control of her life.
And, of course, it was great to see the characters I loved so much from the first book!
I can’t wait to read the next book in this series. There’s just something about Ms. Bybee’s writing that pulls me in, keeps me engaged, and leaves me with a smile. And there’s not enough of that in my life right now!

Home to Me is the second book in the Creek Canyon series. This is a series of interconnected standalones with different narrators. These books are contemporary romance.
This is Erin's story. We met her in the first book. I enjoyed that book so much that I knew that I wanted to continue with the series.
Two things that I wanted to know re: this book. Can it be read without having read the first book? And how much will Parker and Colin and the characters from the first book be in this book?
Erin is introduced in the first book. So I would definitely recommend reading My Way to You first. However I definitely think that it would be possible to follow this book as a standalone.
Since I enjoyed the first book I was very happy that the characters from the previous book are in this book a lot. That was one of my favorite things about the book.
Parker is in this book quite a bit. So while you could follow the story without having read book one. IMO these books are more like a continuing story, but with different narrators. As major life events happen to Parker in this book.
The main narrators in Home to Me are Erin and Matt (3rd person POVs).
From the first book we found out that Erin had been running from her past. This is one of the main focuses of the story. And it was amazing to find out more about what Erin had been through.
Matt is a firefighter. And I really liked how this was an important focus of the story as well.
I normally don't like 3rd person POVs as much as 1st person POVs, as I usually find that I feel less connected to the characters. But this author is an expert as I barely even notice that I'm reading 3rd person.
I don't think that this book was as sexy as the first book. But the romance was extremely strong. And I think that the amount of sexiness worked perfectly for this story.
There were some unexpected events that happened in Home to Me that had me on the edge of my seat. And there was another 3rd person POV that I thought added so much to the story.
Overall I really enjoyed this book. It was an emotional and amazing sequel! And I am beyond thrilled with the main character selected for the third book.
Thanks to netgalley and Montlake for allowing me to read this book.
In the 2nd book in the Creek Canyon series we are reintroduced to Erin Fleming, who is renting the guest house owned by Parker Sinclair, and Matt Hudson, brother of Colin Hudson who is now engaged to Parker.
Erin is a very private person who works from home, but she catches the eye of Matt who is a firefighter and there are some real flames between these two people. Matt is outgoing and a real people person, were Erin is a little more reserved but she is soon mixed in with Sinclair family and the Hudson family. Matt’s mom makes sure of that.
I like the way Erin and Matt moved their relationship from one of friends to more than friends. Matt understand that Erin is a little closed off and does not trust easily. He gives her the space to trust him and let her secrets she has been keeping about her past and who the person she has been trying to keep from finding out where she is. When this person finds her, Matt and Erin move fast to find him and keep Erin safe at the same time. The Sinclair’s and the Hudson band together to help this along, as the flames of passion and love smolder and bring Erin to a new life with Matt.
Another winner for Catherin Bybee. She keeps her readers and fans turning the pages to find out what is going to happen in Creek Canyon...
Great second book in this series!! I could not put this book down once I started reading this. We got a little glimpse of Erin in the first book. In this book, we get to find out why Erin stays in the background so much and wants people to know very little about her. The chemistry between Erin and Matt is off the walls. Matt is a fireman and once he has his sights on Erin, he is not going to give up. Matt is determined to find out Erin’s secrets. Once he does, the really protective side of him comes out and he doesn’t leave her side until the threat is gone and they get their HEA. I loved how the whole family bonded with Erin and gave her the support she needed to get through her ordeal. It was great watching the transformation of Erin going from a victim to a warrior and take her life back which included getting her sister back in her life. Really excited to read the next book in this series and watch Grace finally find her HEA. Thank you again Catherine Bybee for another great book!
Actual Rating: 4.5 Stars -- An HJ Top Pick!! See the full review at HarlequinJunkie
Talk about an emotional journey! Home to Me pulled everything I love about Catherine Bybee’s writing into one novel: snappy dialogue, complicated backgrounds, new beginnings, perfectly imperfect characters, and oh so satisfying romance.
I’m loving how much the setting of Santa Clarita gives Catherine Bybee to work with and how well the awesome cast she created for this Canyon Creek series meshes together. I was invested in each of their personal stories right away. Especially with our heroine Erin. You can read her story as a standalone but if you’ve read book one, My Way to You, then you already know she suffered some form of abuse and is basically in hiding... Read More
Definitely too suspenseful for me in my jacked-up COVID state (I work in an ER), so I had to read the end first and then go back to the beginning. lol.
I cannot speak highly enough of how masterfully Ms. Bybee wrote this story. There is so much gritty, raw truth and Erin is such a realistic example of a survivor. Matt is beyond wonderful. Clearly, his background as a firefighter helps him to know how to deal with people who are traumatized. His incredible sensitivity is so touching. He's also just a great guy! I loved Colin in the prior book, but I think I might like Matt even better. Grace was right - her brothers are annoyingly perfect! I can't wait for Grace's story in the fall.
This is the second book in the Creek Canyon series. This was an exciting story that kept me wondering what was going to happen next. Spousal abuse is not an easy thing to read about. I can only imagine it wasn’t an easy thing for the author to write about. Fortunately, Erin finds Matt and learns a better life. But that doesn’t mean her past is over. It was wonderful meeting up with the characters from Book One in the series.
I voluntarily reviewed an Advanced Reader Copy of this book from NetGalley.
The second installment in The Creek Canyon series, HOME TO ME by Catherine Bybee is another excellent book by this talented writer.
Domestic abuse is never an easy topic to handle because it has so many facets and can be a trigger for many readers. ByBee handles the topic effectively and you truly grow to care about her heroine, Erin Fleming.
Since running away from her abusive and murderous husband Desmond, Erin has made a new life for herself. She shies away from men and doesn’t divulge much about her past to her landlady and friend Parker, but as she grows closer to her newfound friends, she starts to gain strength of self and sees she can still experience a life despite being on the run.
The evolving love story between Matt and Erin is sweet, is most part because Matt understands her need to go slow. I love a slow burn love story and theirs was lovely.
Thanks to Netgalley and Montlake for providing me with an arc of this soon to be released book. 5 stars to another great book by Bybee.
I can’t believe I have to wait until November to finish this series! I enjoy the author’s writing and easily connect with the characters. I’ve already downloaded another book by this author to read next.
**Copy Provided by Netgalley and Montlake Romance for an honest review**
First of all it should be noted that this book may be a trigger for some as it deals with domestic abuse and the events that follow Erin as she is clawing her way back a year after escaping from her husband.
The author has written the book really well. You get all the emotion and stress behind Erin as she copes with the aftermath and has Matt feeling protective towards her as he can tell from his job that she has been conditioned to react like she does. He slowly gains her trust and confidence to the point where she finally opens up to someone, which ends up being a blessing and helping her to get even stronger.
We get to see more of the characters from book one, namely Parker and Colin, Grace, Austin and Mallory. Again they are all great supporting characters and help and rally when needed.
The book is certainly hard to put down as you just want to see Erin getting a happy ever after with Matt and that Desmond, Erins ex husband, gets the karma he deserves.
I am really happy that in the next book we get to see Grace have a happy ending, as in this book, you can sense her loneliness and almost resigned to being alone after all the toads she has so far found.
This is a book that certainly brought a sensitive subject up well and did a brilliant job at keeping it light enough to enjoy, but deep enough to really feel for all of those people who live through abuse.
The first book in this series, "My Way to You," was my first book by this author and it was just outstanding! I so hoped she would continue the series with Erin's story and she did just that. I am pleased to be able to say that the first book I read by her was not a fluke in my opinion of her talent and story telling ability. This was another terrific book which handles the very sensitive and difficult subject of spousal abuse. It was very well done without all the horrific details, but enough for the unbearable fear and tension to be easily felt by the reader. I really like this author and will be loading up my Kindle with more of her books. Her ending words are so very true which can be applied to a myriad of circumstances: "There is a reason your windshield is larger than your rear view mirror. It shows you where you're going, not what you left behind."
Catherine Bybee is quickly becoming a go to author for loyal and faithful heroes. Matt was adorable crushing on Erin for so long. Then when it counted he stepped up and showed her exactly how a real man treats a woman. Her past was terrible and Matt was so protective of her. But Erin showed such growth and resilience. She learned to defend herself and love herself. I can't wait for more. I'm seriously looking at the rest of this authors back log.
This is the second book in the Canyon Creek series, and it keeps getting better. This book focuses on Erin, a woman who is living in a guest house on Parker’s family’s land.
Erin is a private person, clearly hiding something from her landlord and now good friend. She is hiding from her abusive husband and trying to get her divorce finalized before he finds her.
I don’t do spoilers, so you’ll have to read it to see what happens to Erin. She does feel attracted to Matt, Colin’s brother ((Colin is Parker’s boyfriend/fiance) and the book follows the progress of the attraction and Erin’s path to possibly being able to trust a man again.
Thanks to the author, publisher and NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review this book, but my opinions are my own.’
I really liked Erin and getting to know more about her story after meeting her in book 1 was so well done. It was nice to see her open up Matt and everyone else in the Creek Canyon universe. I saw the ending coming a mile away but what I really liked was that . I am looking forward to reading Grace's story next!
5 Star Review Home To Me (Creek Canyon #2) by Catherine Bybee The second book in Ms.Bybee’s latest series was a well written, emotional story with a heroine who has survived so much, is strong, resilient and determined to escape her abusive ex. I admired Erin Fleming as she turned her life around and moved to Santa Clarita, California. Matt Hudson, a firefighter is the man who makes her heart flutter and may well be the man who can earn her trust. He is caring and protective of Erin, totally swoon worthy and he ticked the boxes for me. Matt is attracted to Erin, he knows she has secrets she is hiding, but he can tell that she has been through so much and yet is determined not to give in. All he wants to do is help and protect her but it is hard going. Home To Me is a heartfelt story that is emotional and at times gut wrenching. It is also a sweet story about love and overcoming obstacles that life puts in your path and in doing so allowing oneself to open up to the possibility of finding love and happiness again. I received a copy of this book from the publisher through NetGalley.
“Home to Me” is a story of survival and learning to live life again. Erin appeared in the first book in this series, “My Way to You.” She answered an ad to rent a guest house from Parker (Heroine from book one), which was perfect for her. Erin needed a quiet, and an out of the way place, in which to live. For the past months, she had been running for her life, staying just one step ahead of her predator. With some professional assistance, Erin was able to disappear without a trace. But to avoid captivity, she needed to follow a few simple rules: (don’t talk about her past to anyone, stick to the shadows/keeping a low profile, don’t develop new friendships, and always keep a bag packed). After several months of practice Erin became skillful at keeping her guard up and avoiding prying, “get to know you” questions. Or, so she thought!
The Heroine had not expected to meet such loving and persistent people. Parker (her landlord), and her boyfriend, Colin, and his family, were good people and refused to let Erin stand in the shadows. They were concerned for the shy and quiet young lady who worked her way into their hearts. However, Erin found her wall of defenses slowly crumbling with every caring act from her new friends/family. Especially, from a certain young firefighter, Matt, Colin’s brother. The very first time they met; Matt was smitten with the redhead who was too shy to look him in the eye.
However, there was one problem. Erin made it a rule to avoid getting involved with any member of the opposite sex. Well, that proved to be more of a challenge than she had anticipated. The more she got to know Matt, the harder it became to resist him. He was unlike any of the men she had encountered in her previous life. The readers will fall in love with this strong and gentle soul, who slowly steals Erin’s heart.
I truly enjoyed this second book. It was wonderful old characters from the first book had major roles in the story. Readers can’t help but fall in love with Erin as they watch her rediscover her strengths, identity, and passion for life, once again. This book has plenty of adventure, mystery, and love. This is such a good read! Thank you, Catherine, for another great story. Looking forward to the next book. I highly recommend this book.

My Home To Me Review . . .
I'm always a fan of Catherine Bybee as she never disappoints me with her stories. They are always full of heart and suspense.
We met Matt and Erin in My Way to You, book one. In book 1 we were eluded to Erin's past but it was not confirmed nor where are the details there until here in Home to Me. We also knew Matt had a crush on Erin, but weren't sure how that was going to play out.
Every character in this story was so well done. I loved all the interactions and bantering between everyone.
"Yeah, I saw. But what does that have to do with this?" The timer buzzed with another batch of cookies. These ones were strawberry-filled sugar cookies. "Matt." "Matt asked for a sugar high?"
I also like that it didn't drag on with Erin pushing Matt away and being a martyr, instead she opened up pretty quickly and trusted others. I liked that there wasn't unnecessary angst. I also liked the sweetness of Matt.
"If you were a tiny bit of a jerk it would be easy to push you away." Matt batted his eyelashes as if he were a lost puppy looking for scraps at the dinner table. "My mom says I'm a good catch."
All of Matt's family is awesome and I can't wait to get Grace's story. I also hope we eventually get Austin's story as well. He seems like such a great character. But Grace's strength and loud personality will give whomever she ends up with a run for their money. But I think the journey is going to be with it.
Sure there was some predictability with this story, but there was still enough to pull you through. It ended with no loose ends which I appreciate. Liked the story and loved Erin and Matt together.
"Your dreams should be a testament to who you are now. Maci was a victim. Erin is a fighter."
Reading a book by Catherine Bybee is amazing. You always know you're going to get great dialogue, an interesting storyline that will be filled with plenty of emotion and a story that will keep you entertained from start to finish and this story had all of that and then some. Really, right from the start this story drew me in and kept my eyes glued to every page, as the heroine has been through rough times but definitely has plenty of strength and the hero is an amazing man that will prove he's one of the good guys.
Moreover, the heroine's back story may be a trigger for a woman that's been through a similar experience in the past, but reading this story could also be very beneficial to a woman that has been through what Erin has. In order to prove that said woman is a survivor and has plenty of strength to do what needs to be done in order to escape a terrible relationship.
As for the ending, I loved it. There's nothing better than a couple finding their happy ever after after going through so much like this pair do. Then again, Erin deserves every bit of happiness she ends up finding after everything she's been through and goes through in this story and Matt is definitely the right man for her. He's everything her ex isn't. A wonderful man that will do treat her like the precious woman she is.
I would recommend this book if you enjoy books by Jamie Beck, Tracy Brogan, Marina Adair and Jennifer Probst.
Home to Me is the second book in the Canyon Creek series, I do recommend reading the first book On My Way to You first in order to have a better understanding of all the characters in the story. If you have read the first book, you would have gotten the sense that Erin Fleming was hiding, runny away from something drastic. She was indeed! Moving to Santa Clarita, a small town in California, she was hiding her self away with a new name and identity from a very controlling and abusive husband who will stop at nothing to find her and bring her back to heartless marriage or better yet kill her. When Erin found comfort in her new life, never did she imaging that she would open herself to have friends or a new love interest in a man that would protect her at all coast! Just when she thought she can have a life she has always hoped for, her life is shook when her husband finds her. This story may be a trigger to some readers since there is domestic abuse present. Home to Me was an ARC read given to me by NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. All thoughts are my own.
This book was amazing. I didn't want to put it down. There was a well told romance (of course) between Erin and Matt but there was nail biting suspense as well. Erin is a great character, someone who had a difficult life but still is strong. Matt is the ultimate book boyfriend- protective, loyal, loving and sweet. I loved meeting Parker and Colin, who were featured in the first book- I haven't read it yet but I will soon because I loved them so much. I don't think you need to read this in order (I certainly didn't) but be prepared for this book to whet your appetite about Parker and Colin's love story!
Not to give anything away but Erin is running away from her past. Can she prevail against evil? And can Matt and his friends help protect her before evil finds her? I look forward to more books in this series! Thanks to NetGalley for an early read.
In this book, we get to find out why Erin stays in the background so much and wants people to know very little about her. The chemistry between Erin and Matt is off the walls.
~~I received a free copy of this book to read and review for Wicked Reads ~~
This is the second book in the series - and I have to tell you that it is another winner! A completely different direction of travel, but again a strong female lead who given the support of those immediately around her succeeds against the odds. I would definitely recommend that you read them in order, as that way you will get to meet all the important players and understand some of the dynamics which are important here too.
Erin appeared in My Way to You as the new tenant in Parker Sinclair's guesthouse. She was clearly hiding from something but the impression she gave was of being damaged, not a criminal, so they welcomed her and gave her space. A few hints once given when a bit tipsy, and the way that she flinches near men have made everyone assume she fled from an abusive situation, but no one is going to press for more information. Parker's boyfriend's brother, firefighter Matt was attracted to her from the very first moment he met her - and he plans on doing all he can to make her smile, and hopefully date.
As he works hard to gain her trust and show her he is genuine and good, Erin starts to believe that maybe there is a chance that she could have a new and happy life. But at the same time her lawyer tells her that her husband refuses to grant her a divorce and the protection order is refused renewal ... so she is in a terrible predicament, as she would never want to put her new friends at risk.
There is a lovely romance playing out in this book, with Matt enlisting the help of his family to reassure and protect Erin, as well as taking every opportunity to helping her enjoy the freedom and passion that they share. As things get difficult he knows he has to stop her from running. Bybee does a brilliant job of ramping up the drama, but giving us hope as well.
Another excellent story with lots of engaging threads and underlying themes that make this a great read. I am really looking forward to future stories already!
I must admit that I didn't read the first book in this series, what prompted me to ask for this book was the plot and the theme drawn within the novel.
The protagonist, Erin is a reserved girl, she likes to go unnoticed, but when she's noticed by Matt, a firs fighters, a spark immediately breaks out between the two. Matt is a sociable person, very outgoing. I mean, the opposite of Erin.
Erin and Matt got to know each other gradually, as friends, they became more than just friends.
Matt understands that Erin is a girl she hardly trusts, probably because of what she went through, so he doesn't strain things.
Matt is willing to do anything to defend Erin from her past, as is his family. Her new life has to be in a safe place to live and feel protected.
Of this novel I appreciated everything, the fragile Erin who very slowly learns to trust people, to open up and be able to talk about her past in this way. Matt is a sweet and caring boy, the boy that everyone wants.
I also appreciated the secondary, important and supportive characters for Erin and for the purposes of the story.
Catherine Bybee writes in a fluid way and, despite the delicate subject matter covered in the novel, it didn't make it heavy at all, on the contrary.
Congrats to the author, now I'm going to recover the first book.

HOME TO ME is the 2nd book in the Creek Canyon Series by Catherine Bybee. If you read the first book in the series, MY WAY TO YOU, you met Erin Fleming, who rents an apartment from Parker and her siblings, Austin and Mallory. From the beginning you know Erin is hiding from someone, you just don't know the extent of her fear until she is around large (well built) men. Erin has only ever had her sister to lean on in the past - she is now in the midst of a loving, if not unconventional family, with Parker and her boyfriend (dare I say fiancee') Colin and their siblings. In this book we see Erin trying to allay some of her fears and open up to Matt (Colin's brother), a firefighter, who is a protector in every sense of the word. He wants to know who hurt her and to help her get past her fears. She starts to open up just as her past catches up with her. Can Matt's love and protective instinct keep her safe? You will want to read this incredible book to see how Matt and Erin find their way home to love and happiness. I received an ARC of this book for an honest review.
OOOH! I was excited to dive into this book. It's the 2nd in the series so the reader met Erin during My Way To You. Erin was a private person, mainly because of her past. She didn't want to involve Parker too much, but Parker was there for her and slowly her walls came down and she shared things with Parker. I liked that Erin had a good friend in Parker. It was much needed for her. I enjoyed seeing the budding relationship between Erin and Matt. She knew she liked him, but she was timid. Matt could read her body language and was cautious with her. I liked that he wanted to care for her from the very beginning. I was completely consumed by this book! I loved the friendships, the romantic relationship and the danger that was lurking. Catherine kept me on the edge of my seat and I couldn't read this book fast enough! Another great read and one not to be missed!
