OUT NOW

"When I love, I love hard.
But that also means that when I break, I break even harder."

Wow!!! The truth is that I'm not a fan of novellas cause I'm feeling that things are too rushed, but in here, there wasn't such a problem.
But that fact doesn't stop me from wanting more of Rafe and Ember... cause this story even small, it was explosive and I'm craving more of everything by these two, because I believe that they have so much more things to give us.

"How many times are you told as a child not to play with fire? Not to get too close?"

Ember wasn't in a good place and when she was at her lowest, a man became her savior. An act of kindless or he has other motives???
The only sure thing is that Ember fell for Rafe and his kindness, but Rafe turned out to be the one out to destroy her and not save her without her to pay the price... Rafe is bound to wreck her heart and soul!!!

"I've stupidly let myself fall for a man that doesn't exist."

Well, I can't tell you more about this story.
It personally grabbed me from the very first page and butterflies had started to fly inside my stomach from the agony...
I loved these two characters...
Ember was sweet and kind and very trustworthy...
Rafe was enigmatic and difficult to read, but he intrigued me along with Ember....
These two were the perfect fit in a very unperfect match...

"Doomed to end in absolute disaster. I let myself believe in us too soon and this is the fall out."

Yes, I need their full story...
I need more details...
Yes, this small sample wasn't too rushed, but still it was missing some details that I was needing!!!
Pretty please, A.J., give me more Rafe and Ember!!!

"There's nowhere you could run that I couldn't find you, Ember. Remember that."

**I recieved an ARC for the exchange of an honest review. Thank you.**

This was so disappointing!

1) Where was the groveling after the H mentally and sexually abuses the heroine?!

2) Why was the heroine so naive and pathetic? God, I felt pity towards her. She was all "He can abuse me but he still loves me. The world is cruel towards him, so he is cruel and my love will change him for the better". Well, sweetheart, the asshole will remain just that unless HE wants to change. Your love can't do anything. 🤦

“It was a mistake thinking Rafe was anything other than a monster in a suit."

Will someone explain how this author has the ability to write a completely satisfying book in 80 pages where others can't seem to give it to me in 400 pages?

I'm shocked. I won't lie, I'm used to reading Jessa Kane novellas (and loving them BTW). You know the quick, dirty and utterly ridiculous books that cleanse your brain between big reads. That is what I thought I was getting, but it wasn't. It was so much fucking better.
"You'll leave when the embers turn black and only ash remains."

In less than 2 hrs AJ Wolf made me feel love, anger, frustration, joy, sadness and all around gave me a complete fucking book. Do I wish it was long....yes I fucking do!!

But did I finish it and feel complete happiness that I took the time to read it, absolutely!
"Sssshhhh, Sssshhhh…" His thumb rubs along my neck, still gripping my hair in his palm as he tries to soothe me. "Why are you running, Ember?" His voice is low in my ear, hot breath puffing along my cheek as he holds me tight against him. “Where did you think you could go that I wouldn’t find you?"

Please please please, make this a complete novel!! I need more of these two so bad!!

Love and deprivation

Lately it seems like I am in a perpetual book slump, which is only interrupted when there is a new release by one of my go-to authors, so I try to grab anything shiny that catches my eye. The description of Wrecked seemed to fit the bill and I thought that a short novella would be the perfect distraction.

And the beginning is intriguing enough: down-on-her luck waitress Ember catches the eye of a mysterious benefactor, who makes it his business to ease her hardships. Though he always acts the gentleman, there is a certain ominous atmosphere, an impression that there will come a time when the hammer is going to fall.
And as much as I loved this first mysterious part of the story where we are kept in suspense about how things are going to play out I think it was too long as it took up more than 40% of the whole novella.

The hammer does indeed fall, and Rafe demands of Ember that she drop everything and accompany him on a weekend retreat/business trip where she is to serve his every pleasure. There is no physical coercion involved, but Rafe makes it clear that he expects Ember to pay with her body for all the expenditures he has incurred on her behalf, even if she did not ask for them. Ember is not only very attracted to Rafe, but she also feels indebted. On top of that she feels worthless and hopeless, so she goes along with Rafe. That is until he humiliates her publicly and she decides she is not going to take it anymore. In the end Rafe comes to understand that you can’t buy love, even though he has been taught differently all his life.

Normally this is the type of dark romance I like, where the anti-hero pressures the heroine into submitting to him mostly just thru the force of his will and personality (and by holding a debt over her head). And despite being naïve, and kind, and believing in the good of people, Ember is no doormat. When her love is rebuffed, she decides to rather walk away than to be satisfied with crumbs.

But strangely, upon reflection, I found the underlying trope of the poor and distressed girl rescued by the mysterious billionaire very upsetting, even though many contemporary dark romance tales start from this trope. It’s disturbing hat the premise of the poor beauty in this day and age is still a cultural staple that is universally accepted. And it’s not due to personal failings (as conservative discourse would have us believe): Ember is from a poor background and though she got into college, she can’t afford to finish on the salary and tips she makes from waiting tables (no wonder considering the federal minimum wage for tipped workers is $2.13).
When Rafe forces her to undress for him and comments on her thinness, the dullness of her hair, the lack of color in her face and her chaffed lips, Ember feels each of his words self-consciously like a stab to the heart. Her deprivation is not a result of her choices or her actions, but a result of a system that punishes poverty and makes it very difficult, if not impossible for her to get ahead or develop any self-worth. Even though I was reluctantly fascinated by the story, I ultimately found it rather depressing in its underlying cultural assumptions.

Nothing is for free

A chance encounter at a convenient store, a stranger buys a financially-strapped young lady a sandwich and then to a future meeting at her place of work and more. Ember, a young woman who lives paycheck to paycheck, becomes entangled with the enigmatic, charming, and wildly affluent Rafe and discovers nothing, including charity, is free. What seems like courtship becomes bondage.

A cute novella that I could easily imagine (would actually love) become a full-length novel, it gives just a taste of a rocky and steamy plot line with a hint dark element. It includes my favorite characters types -- alpha, dominating, jerk of (anti)hero who hides his feelings and a sweet, resilient heroine with a hint of steel. And they were well-developed despite the shorter length. Even side characters, traits of confidante, discord, and intrigue, were well-aligned to the story and character dynamics. The foreshadowing, the sense nothing is a good as it seems, added to the trepidation and slap of the twist I experienced while reading it.

Tangible chemistry between the main couple is apparent as well as steam with some subtle BDSM elements which made this story a balance of edgy and romantic.

I am a big fan of novellas often having a fast pace. This one, however, managed to have a slower pace at the expense of story progression. It is very prose-heavy, overly rich in telling rather than showing with visually large paragraphs of text. These characteristics made the story seem as if it were trying to be full-length particularly for first 70% but was instead shorter, the extra text not really adding value at any length.

In summary, I enjoyed this book, liked the storyline and characters though would not miss all the prose. I would love to read a full-length version with a "showing" particularly all the family dynamics and rivalry, as well as the long road to recognizing and accepting love. This novella inspires all the feels.

For reference, it was not dark to me in spite of the trigger warning.

AJ books are always both seductively intoxicating and rivetingly unexpected. You’ll be seduced by the beautiful prose and intense chemistry, while hanging on the edge of your seat just trying to figure out what is going to happen next. And Wrecked is just that- enchanting and unexpected. A perfect dark and devious little novella snack that titillates and leaves you wanting an even bigger bite.

Of course, this is no normal romance- AJ fans know that by now. Our heroine wants the fairy tale- the prince charming who saves her from her crappy situation. She’s endearingly naïve, sincere and authentic- which makes her susceptible to the powerful Rafe- a man with dubious intentions, charming in his mysterious darkness. And, just like many AJ romances, their connection and romantic trajectory don’t end up quite as they seem- taking a more deliciously sinful and surprising turn.

This novella is a great treat for fans new and old- and if you’ve not met AJ Wolf yet, Wrecked is a great introduction to her luscious prose and her psychologically intriguing love stories. And, while I normally find novella’s leave me wanting, this one packs a lot in for the shortened length. All in all, a good steamy, fast paced read. 4.5 stars

This was a quick steamy and emotional read with all the angst we come to know and love by this author! The hero is cruel the heroine is naive and too sweet for her own good but surprised us towards the end . I wish this was longer but nevertheless it’s a amazing read that gives you all the feels and steam ! Definite must read from one of my favorite authors!

This novella sucked me right in and surprisingly didn't feel super rushed or like I was missing a lot. Novellas can be REALLY hit or miss for me because they tend to feel like sparknotes.

Wolf was able to ensnare me, entertain me, and make me want to know more. I hope this becomes a full length novel, cause I need some more Rafe 🥵🥵

Wrecked by A.J. Wolf is a standalone dark romance novella. Ember, twenty-two-year-old waitress, is living paycheck to paycheck often not having enough to make ends meet. She encounters a mysterious man, Rafe, at a gas station one night and he helps her. Ember meets Rafe again at her workplace and he financially helps her out with no motive. Ember and Rafe embark on a whirlwind romance that leaves them not only broken but wrecked.

This book was so good! It was a quick and steamy emotional read which left me content, but I wouldn’t be opposed to reading more about Rafe and Ember. I love everything A.J. Wolf has written, and this book does not disappoint. It checks off all things I want in a dark romance. Wrecked is emotional, intense, and full of angst. There’s also the cruel hero and naïve heroine. Rafe is dominant and possessive, yet he has a soft side. Ember is obedient, and she pushed the urge to be sassy or feisty down. I really liked these characters, and that although Ember was obedient, she knew when to stand up for herself and would not put up with Rafe’s ways. Overall, I really enjoyed this book and I would love to see more of these characters and learn more about their pasts.

I enjoyed this novella featuring Ember and Rafe - two broken soulds from very different worlds who eventually find their happiness in each other. I was very intrigued in the beginning. Rafe was so mysterious in a slightly sinister way, so I wasn't exactly surprised at the turn the story took. Overall, I would say that this story played with a little darkness, but never committed fully. If you are new to dark romance, this may be a good gentle starting point. The relationship progresses really fast, but I can get on board with that given that it's a novella. I wouldn't mind reading this as a full length story and getting to see real character development as well as more insight into Rafe's world. My only real issue was lack of research when it came to certain things - specifically, the fact that the Hamptons are located on Long Island which is in New York not Connecticut. It's a minor detail, but something very easily verified, so it took me out of the story a bit. Having said that, I otherwise enjoyed my introduction to this author and may check out her other books.

I. Need. More. Ember. And. Rafe. Now.

As I always find with A.Js books, she knows exactly what her fans will want when it comes to one of her stories. This is dark, intense, fast paced and just an absolutely insane novella that I can guarantee will want you leaving more - which I do. Desperately! A.J manages to make you really care for her characters so much, that you'll be going on an emotional journey from the get go.

Ember is extremely poor and working at a diner. With the last of her tip money she goes to get some food, which is where she has a chance encounter with Rafe.
Rafe is the complete opposite, he's insanely wealthy and comes from money. We never do find out what him and his family do for a living though, as he only gives a vague response when Ember asks him.

I don't want to give too much away with this story, but it's intense and will definitely suck you in! I couldn't put it down once I started it and it's definitely a book I can see myself rereading often!

I pray that A.J gives us a full length book on Ember and Rafe because I have so many unanswered questions and I need more!

“She’s too good for me. She’s too pure, too kind, too—sweet. She needs more than I could ever give her. Ember is fire and coal. She is bright and bold. And I’m more like the ocean that tried to yank her down by her ankles. Too long with me and she would have drowned.”...

In such a short amount of words and pages she created a marvelous story you can't get enough of.
Her ability to make you feel everything through her words is absolutely amazing.
This story needs a couple of hundred pages more and still, wouldn't be enough.

Wrecked by aj wolf is romantic novella with darkish themes.
This story shows us ember, a girl down on her luck scraping by and an accidental meeting with a
stranger who is kind to her.
It was sweet at the start, how naive and trusting ember is; soon she is swept away in the
stranger's kindness but every good thing comes to an end, so does her naivety;
Ember is thrown in a world where the stranger isn't who she thought but we see she still holds
on to hope.
This is a fast paced, insta love story and the chemistry between these two character was hot.
This book will definitely help you if you want something short that checks your dark romance
love.

I’m not usually a fan of novellas but at this point I’m pretty sure anything that A.J. writes I’ll fall in love with.

This is a fast pace, and intensely dark romance that will take you on a roller coaster of emotions.

Rafe is an asshole that you just can’t help but fall in love with and Ember’s a character that just when you think you’ve got her figure out, she surprises you.

I just hope that one day in the future, Rafe and Ember will get themselves a full length novel because I need more 😍😍😍

Please note: This book does contain scenes/topics that some readers may find disturbing and/or triggering.

Thank you to A.J. Wolf for providing me with an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

This is my first book from this author and I am amazed.
She managed to make me connect with the characters in a short amount of time as the book is a novella. It's a wholesome novella though and I fell in love with it.
This is a DARK read but I was hooked from the start. Rafe is one mysterious dude and the book makes me wish this was a full length novel.
I loved how the book starts, I loved Ember and I was full engrossed in her story.
Amazing. I recommend it.

Ember has always struggled making ends meet. Working late shifts at the local diner.

Along comes the very well presented Rafe. He takes a shine to Ember and helps her out in ways she could never dream of, but what does he want in return?

Ember presumes that this wonderful man is simply helping her out of the goodness of his heart. Because he cares. She is wrong.

UGH SO GOOD.

If your looking for a short novella with tons of spice, this ones for you. AJ did a fantastic job of putting you in the characters shoes and making her wants your wants. There’s lots of steam and this story is HOT.

If your not into submission and dominance, this is probably not your type of story so take caution. But if you are... run full speed into this story.

I really liked the idea of this story. Unfortunately for me, it just didn't meet it. This felt more like a first draft to me and I would've loved to see the characters, ploteline, and timeline be more fleshed out.

I know this is a novella but still. Just because it's a novella doesn't mean you should not flush out the story properly. I really hope AJ writes the full version because I want redemption for these characters.

WRECKED is a delicious dark little treat by AJ Wolf. Broody and tight-lipped, manipulative and demanding hero and one naïve heroine out of her luck. Two broken souls – each in their own way – and how they fit together when they shouldn’t make any sense at all.

Debts to be repaid, a kidnapping, a good dose of subtle dub / non con, plus some dark secrets where the hero is concerned. It’s quick and steamy and leaves you wanting more. More of Rafe and Ember, but also more of his brother. Maybe someday…?

Wrecked is a dark romance novella with a fairy tale/Cinderella feel to it. Ember hopes and wishes for something or someone to save her from her not so stellar living conditions. Her nativity and submissive nature attract mysterious and aloof Rafe, who offers her a proposition she cannot refuse. Of course, nothing can be that simple though and not everything is as is seems.

I’ve mentioned this a few times in previous reviews that I’m not an overly big fan of novellas. I always tend to gravitate towards full-length novels, simply because I personally need there to be sufficient character and plot development to feel truly invested. But this didn’t feel like I was reading a novella at all. As always, AJ did an incredible job at incorporating everything I want and need. Despite the length, Wrecked still packed a serious punch, providing the perfect amount of delicious desire and sexual tension to still keep it steamy. My fingers and toes are crossed in the hopes that this is written into a full-length novel because I REALLY want more Rafe and Ember!

If you’re in the mood for a fast paced, alluring and all-consuming read with a few twists and turns to keep you on the edge of your seat, then this surprisingly jam-packed novella is for you.

Leaves your heart and mind utterly wrecked...

“You see the world with your heart, and you saw me when I thought no one else could. When I wanted no one else to."

AJ Wolf is no new author to me. Or you, I hope? With Unsettled, she ruined me for every other psychological thriller book out there but leave it to her to piece me back together. Wrecked was a beautiful novella, not guaranteeing a HEA but you're in for surprises there, featuring Rafe and Ember's unconventional romance.

A whirlwind pool of emotions. Self-doubts. Triggers. Romance. Heat. Dominance. Unrelenting, sexy alpha male who's not yet finished with the feisty, broken girl! And when she stands up to him? When she tries to break his hackles? Your mind is bound to be wrecked in the best delicious way.

I always feel short of her words, no matter how lengthy her stories are. But this little dose of drug? Definitely left me wanting for more...

Highly recommended captive dark romance.

I need more!!

That's usually why i stay away from novellas. Im greedy.

But AJ Wolf still pulled it off. She basically teased us to see if it's worth investing her time into this story.

I say... YES!!!! Please do so. I enjoyed the story and would definitely read a full length book about Ember and Rafe.

Ember is broke and working to live paycheck to paycheck. Her bills are barely paid and she still has a flip phone!!!

Rafe is the rich dude that comes along and does thing without being asked. He wants her to pay up but not monetarily.

Ember agrees and they both end up finding something they didn't know they needed and/or wanted.

I just need more otherwise it was a great storyline and has all the emotions and stream we've all come to expect from AJ!!

Wrecked is the first book I’ve read from Author AJ Wolf. She has an amazing ability to create real and raw emotions the reader can feel. Within the first few pages of this book I knew it was gonna be an emotional rollercoaster that ended with me being put through the wringer. I was not wrong. Lol! The characters are very authentic, the dialogue and even background info was all superb. I won’t give any spoilers away of what happened, but let’s just say you’re gonna hate the MMC for a good portion of the book. He’s an asshole. But the FMC is this beautifully broken woman who is brave and radiates strength in ways that are not only believable but admirable! Overall, it was a good book! Heed the trigger warnings.

This was a quick read that really did pack a punch, I just wish this was a full length novel cause I loved everything about it. Ember is so sweet and so very naive only seeing good and when she meets Rafe she thinks she met her knight in shining armor who would take her away from her problems until she found out how he would do that and was left wondering who is this man. Please read the trigger warning in this book as it might not be for everyone, I personally loved it but be aware the label is there for a reason

The story of Ember and Rafe starts off with the premise of an innocent encounter. From the very beginning Ember is enthralled with Rafe , his kindness and friendship means everything to her.
After a few encounters the relationship between them progresses quickly and Ember soon finds herself being whisked away on a weekend break to the Hamptons.
But all is not well, especially when Ember sees a completely different side to the man she met at the Gas station.
Rafe is cruel, domineering and wants Ember at his mercy!
Ember is confronted with a multitude of physical and emotional Experiences which in the end prove to be heartbreaking.

A dark and intense read full of emotion.
Ember is kind, trusting and has a beautiful soul and this clearly comes across in AJ Wolf’s writing.
Rafe is all kinds of emotionally messed up but you just know he wants to be a better man for Ember.

My first read by author AJ Wolfe and I really enjoyed it.

To answer your question… yes. Yes, I would like more!

This was such an amazing short novella, I was fully immersed into the storyline between the h and H.

Loved the character and plot development. It would be great to read a fully length novel between Ember and Rafe and to see how their relationship develops, if he can win Ember back.

This novella has the steamy scenes, broody alpha male and eeriness that one expects of a dark romance.

Life would be great if we had someone like Rafe take care of our money problems but is it really? Ember is about to find out.

I enjoy getting to know these two broken characters. Though separated by an income gulf, they both have so much baggage.

Overall, I liked the book though I think it would have been better as a full-length.

An enticing and eloquently written tale of love through destruction. I wasn’t ready for this story to end. AJ Wolf has painted a world that I’m hoping we get to explore more of in the future.

What happens when a chance encounter turns into an infatuation and unwitting contract? You hold on tight and hope the ride doesn’t leave you irrevocably wrecked.

This story starts off innocently enough, a good samaritan pays for a struggling young woman’s meal and lets her keep the change. That same man, not so coincidentally, meets her at work a few weeks later. A friendship forms and gifts are given.

Problem is all’s not as it seems. On a weekend getaway we meet the true Rafe and realize Ember never stood a chance. He’s a wolf in sheep’s clothing. He’s cruel and sadistic. He’s the storm trying to snuff out her light.

“You are nothing but property. You are nothing but an object. You mean nothing to me.”

How does one recover from hearing those cruel words? You fight and you push back against the walls erected out of a need for self preservation.
