Now that Imogen is Raphael’s girlfriend you would think things might go smoother – nope!
There are a bunch of Alpha’s trying to kill the shifter kids at the outreach center, Raphael seems to have a fiancé and a pending battle with the King of the East, Leroy has a girlfriend – definitely a big mess.
Imogen is learning how many people she actually cares/loves – she’s gone from a loner to someone with family. Leroy, although “in love” with his girlfriend is growing in power and knowledge, Barbara and Sonja are losing their dislike of Imogen. Marigold is a good friend and of course Father Benson is well meaning.
She also gains a new friend/ally/pet in the form of the salamander Pepe – very cute.
This book has action, humour, great characters and dialogue. I found the story very interesting, leaving me wanting more.

The werewolf schoolchildren are in danger.

There is a group of alpha parents who have denied their animal.nature's so much that it has driven them insane and they are heading for the shifter run outreach centre determined to kill their children who have succumbed to their "beasts". Marigolds and Benson are so desperate for help to protect the kids that they turn to Imogen, she knows its.not her fight and that she shouldn't get involved but these are her friends he she can't bring herself.to just walk away. Then another camality hits town a female vampire turns up.to the country club and she announces herself. As Rafaels fiancee........, just when Imogen was starting to.believe that she and Rafael could have future, but worse still if Rafal doesn't marry her it could mean war. ,.............................. There's never been a heroine like Imogen half insane from all the horrific memories, no filter from her brain to her mouth and 200.000 years worth of fighting skills, add I the fact she can't be killed she's a difficult enemy to defeat.

A thoroughly enjoyable series. Continues to be well written and sassy, avoids hyperbole and keeps the pace moving along at a very pleasant romp. The love story is a bit sudden and not really developed but I don’t mind too much, as there’s lots of other things going on together… shall happily continue.

absolutely loved it. I love how the relationships with the characters is growing. I love the snarky comments but there is still love behind it. I smiled through the whole thing except with one part that made me sad. Don't want to add any spoilers. Looking forward to the next book.

I liked the story of this one better than the last, I think, but still not as much as the first. I think it's such a creative world and premise, and I think there's so much room to explore what life is like, and has been like, for Imogen, but we don't get a lot of reflection on that. By now, we have an established world with funny, engaging characters. I want more about what her existence has actually been like. How much money does she have, and how did she make it? When was her last marriage? Where has she spent most of her time lately?

I have mentioned the same thing in each review, I think--there are kind of a lot of inconsistencies. In the last book, she mentions that something is almost as regular as her periods--in this book, she mentions that she can't have children because she has no periods. For a character that has been married more than two dozen times (!) during various periods in history.. that has interesting implications. She says she's never wanted to be a mother, but she's been upset that the choice was taken from her--perfectly understandable! Weird that it doesn't get mentioned until the third book when she adopts a child in the first. Also, in the beginning, she was terrified of more pain and tried to avoid getting involved in anyone else's problems. By book three, she is described as someone that loves working out, sparring, and fighting. It's a big change from where she started--strong but really average in skills.

I am not even sure her quest to find her father was even mentioned in this book. It might have been briefly, but I think she's mostly forgotten about him. I haven't forgotten. I think her father has been in every single book so far. I'll keep my theory to myself other than that.

Uhhh
Did someone copy paste the plot of the last book? Why is it always Leroy. I had my doubts about him from the start but I thought I was just being biased against kids. Apparently not.

Plus, I haven’t really seen anything that says Imogen is a great mother/mother figure. Heck most of the book she doesn’t even interact with Leroy. She seems to think being a mother is all about loving the kid and providing him with basic necessities. She’s repeatedly saying how much she loves Leroy but then can’t pay any attention to him unless he’s screwing up something.

And don’t even get me started on Marigold and her ‘LoOk aT iT fRoM HiS pErSpEcTiVe’ bs. My morally gray FMC is turning into a weak ass bitch. Not in the physical sense of course, she’s still the strongest person ever. But mentally? Decision-making wise? Yeah no. Ugh damn it I hate Marigold. Can’t we just kill her off or something.

Starting to feel like this series is on a downward spiral. Usually series’ gets better with each book but this one… dropped from a four to a three. Truthfully, I’m not as keen to read book 4 now, having serious doubts.

I don't like RuPaul

Why, why, why, do writers have to ooh and ah over the man's physique? (Oh, how her toes curled, the heat she felt in her innards, how her heart beat, etc. etc. etc. Guess I'm done with this one. The search continues.

I loved it!

Warning: Occasional coarse language, sexual references and drug references. No explicit sex scenes. Content note for suicidal thoughts.

It was so enticing that I couldn’t put it down, this book grabbed my interest from the very first page. I couldn’t put it down, I had to know what happened next. The story is well written with a very good storyline. This is Book Three of The Imogen series. This is a fun, fierce and fast-paced Urban Fantasy Series. A slow-burn romance, it includes a diverse cast of characters, shifters, witches, fae, cryptids and more.

Immortality sucks, just ask Imogen Gray, over two-hundred thousand years old and teetering on the edge of total insanity. All throughout history, she’s been hunted by an ancient creature who finds her and rips her to pieces every time she dares to access her deepest powers, but Imogen always regenerates, slowly, and painfully. She’s on a mission to find answers, and she’s almost found them. Unfortunately for her, there’s a delinquent psychic kid, a dangerously hot Vampire King, and a power-crazed blood witch hell-bent on bringing about the apocalypse standing in her way.

Imogen Gray, is strong as a shifter, faster than a vampire, and she’s walked the earth forever, always alone, never growing, never changing, and never learning, either. Her smart mouth and quick temper get her into trouble far too often, when that happens, she gets hurt, sometimes, very badly, and it can take a long, painful time to heal from severed limbs and disembowelment.
She's tired of it all, so tired, so she’s on a mission to find the next reincarnation of her father, the only person in the world who knows how to complete the transition to human, and get rid of the curse of immortality.

He must know, because he did it himself. He wasn't human when she was born, he was something else, but he died a human, and he keeps coming back to experience human life, again and again. He's here in Emerald Valley, somewhere, hiding amongst the eccentric locals, or hobnobbing with the billionaires that visit the Vampire King's country club up on the western ridge. She just has to find him, but when her delinquent teenage ward accidentally summons a powerful Fae Prince through the portal, suddenly, finding her dad has to take a backseat. There's a homicidal maniac on the loose, one who has his eyes on the Vampire King, her Vampire King. Worse than the burning jealousy is the fact that the Fae Prince seems to know exactly what she is. So with all that and more this story pulls you in and holds you tight. It’s a must read. I highly recommend to everyone.

Vampire Politics and Rogue Alphas

*****Spoilers*****

Imogen Gray gets to run around some more, regretting that she's developing emotional bonds to the people around her but still trying to protect them anyway. In this one, she and friends face a some crazy alpha male inspired supernaturals who want to kill the children at the center for shifter youth. On top of that, Rafael's fiance comes a calling with her dad who really only wants Rafael's territory. The cat's out of the bag that Rafael's father is dead but the knowledge so far is not widespread so it makes me wonder at the implications for future books. Rafael manages to thwart the throne takeover with some help from Leroy who happened to be a cog in the unsuspecting wheel of inadvertently setting up things for the vampire showdown. In the end Rafael keeps his territory and gains the trust of the east vampires after he killed their king. Samara, the King's heir and Rafael's previous betrothed gets the east which points to peace perhaps not that the second of the mad vampire kings is dead.

It was interesting and I like how Imogen discovers more about herself and her capacity each book. The romance between Imogen and Rafael took a tremendous leap in the last book but stalled a little in this one. Not to say it isn't going fast in general, just they went from introductions in book one, to I want you to be my mate in book two, and this one the I love yous come out. Quick and intense it seems for Imogen and Rafael, hopefully it doesn't puff out. I will say I was a little surprised at how quickly and easily Imogen forgave Rafael for not telling her about his fiance, particularly since Imogen found out while having dinner with Rafael at his country club. Samara came in person and although Imogen verbally slapped Samara down, she still took off. The combustible salamander that's introduced in this book seems cute but it's also dangerous. Not sure if Imogen will keep him since he won't go back through the portal but he came in handy a few times.

Like the first two books, needs a bit of spelling assistance but I'm still enjoying the series, hungry to read what's next.

Dialog & Character are great, plot was boring in its predictably

I’m torn with this series, I love Imogen and Rafael. And the over arching story is one I want to know more about. And Imogene snark is actually very well done and quoteable. But everything else I have to slog through.

From the first book to the third I was wondering why, even though I liked the characters, I was having trouble focusing on the story. I’d randomly click off the book and watch TikTok’s in the middle of scenes, I never got lost in the story, and this book finally made me figure out why.

No one in these books is cunning or intelligent. Their plots and plans are always so easy to see through and there’s really no mystery, no thrill, because if I haven’t already figured it out outright, I know that what ever the big reveal it will be simplistic. And because of that I just felt like… why read it if I already know what’s going to happen? And honestly, I'm a huge villain gal, If Im not falling for the villain I at least need them to be someone to be feared, but all the villains up until this point have been very lack luster, and sometimes downright silly.

In both book one and three we are very early on Suspicious and untrusting of a character, but then proceed to NOT DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT. Zero follow up, even though they spend the rest of the book raking their brains over who it could be, or why things are happening. And yet Imogen outright avoids or even talks herself out of them being a possibility.

Also plot hole rant. The enemy vampire king gets to “bring himself as a token” to a peace talk, but when it’s time for us to choose a token it HAS to be Leroy because “the token has to be something powerless and human” WHAT!? then why can the king bring himself?? Also Leroy is a witch??? Like gurl please, at least make these Scenarios makes sense. I won’t be reading the rest.

***I am copying and pasting most of this review to the first book review, as I hadn't reviewed it yet and it sums up my feeling on the series as a whole without spoiling much***

action packed urban fantasy adventure series

This is an exceedingly entertaining action pack urban fantasy adventure series. A great cast of characters and an entertaining storyline. Gray is 300,000 years old. She is the one true immortal on earth. She has lived thousands of lifetimes. Had many enemies trying to destroy even down to burning her to ash And her body still regenerates from that ash. In the current day she is in the United States trying to stand the radar but she goes out and fight against evil when and where she can. She is searching for her father who is like her in the beginning but transport muted into a human and died But has been reincarnated many times over. Through the millennia she has searched for him trying to find him and asked questions and a few times she has found him but he has died before she got the answer she needed. Once again she is on a mission to her father. She learned to love not to have connections not to care just to fight if she can run if she cannot. Oh that is changing as she helps young boy and begins to care for him and actually ends up loving him and when she finds out her father is supposed to be soon she starts making friends and caring about them there as well. She even has a love interest a vampire king which she would never have thought of before. However this vampire King is different than others as he rules with love and care for his people rather than terror. It keeps the human safe as well as the other under his rules safe. Now there is a threat against his rule and many things begin happening. Read and see where the fight in the adventure lead and who comes out on top.

I really enjoyed this installment and am really connecting with the message behind living your life and doing it with love and empathy. What I struggled with in this story is the Eriko character and how long it took for Marigold and Imogen, hell, any of the other characters to figure out there was something going on with her. While I enjoyed how the whole arranged fiancé situation turned out, I really wasn’t amused with how it was introduced.

I love how we saw Imogen get closer to all of her found family and we really did see Sonia warm up to Imogen, it was quite comical honestly.

While I enjoyed how we saw most of the characters bond a little more, I was constantly frustrated by characters just being forgotten in scenes. Or characters acting wildly different than their norm and it being ignored? Even with this distraction of the alphas or the arranged marriage scenario, I don’t see how Leroy was overlooked like that. He’s 13 for one, and Eriko’s exchange student thing was not believable. Then at the end, can anyone tell me what happened to Eriko? I don’t see her mentioned as being around at all after Eitos declines her as an offer, she literally disappears from the pages only to be mentioned again at the end as if she’s no longer around. Did I miss someone killing her?

What's a vampire, shifter, and human witch have in common?

They all fill Imogen's once frozen heart.

Book two saw Imogen get a bit of a clue of who she is, and now the Vampire King has said he will help her find her answers. And they agreed to date.

Book three is fast and full of action. There is trouble with some "Alpha" shifters trying to attack the center. There is vampire political drama. There is teenage angst. There are battles and fights to the death. There is also love. Growth. Tears. Laughter. Friendship.

I really enjoyed how Imogen is admitting to herself that she is growing, and how her anger is mostly fear for those she loves. She is still just as snarky. Still just as tough around the edges. I honestly feel she is one of the more human characters I have read in the last while.

I also love the way Lauretta is acknowledging important topics. Things like freedom to choose. That sometimes someone just being beside you while you work though stuff is important. That family is more than blood.

On to book four.

Our heroine is immortal, as in truly cannot die, but for a change she is starting to think that is okay. Of course, that is when things go south.

This is book three of the series. It actually works pretty well as a standalone, but you will be missing a bit of background on our heroine. Your call where to start.

This is an urban fantasy story with witches, vampires and the like. The story is well written and easy to read with a well developed setting hiding the monsters out there. The characters are very well done, particularly our heroine. She is tough and smart, which is a good thing as she is going to need all her skills. The plot includes plenty of action, intrigue and mystery making for a very engaging read. Overall, I quite enjoyed this story and look forward to more in the series.

Highly recommended.

{49} Immortal World (The Imogen Gray series book 3) by Lauretta Hignett is a 5 ⭐️ read (I wish I could give it so many more).
Imogen is still in the hunt for the latest reincarnation of her father, but in the meantime her adopted son has a girlfriend and Imogen really doesn’t like her, she’s sure she’s evil but there’s no proof, Backman’s shifter kids are in danger and there’s all sorts coming the the portal so when a vampire king’s daughter comes claiming to be Rafael’s fiancée, Imogen has had just about enough especially as it looks like a war could be about to start.
This series just keeps getting better and better, while I want Imogen to find out what she really is I need more stories in this series, I really hope it doesn’t end too soon 🤞🏻 please keep them coming.

Consistently excellent!

Imogen Gray is one of the best urban fantasy leading characters of all time. She is that good. She's violent and enjoys it openly but hey, if you got this far you've know how old she is. She's not evil, though she has been at times in her endless history. Her attachments are deepening and her growth is obvious. She's surrounded by a great array of secondary characters and we get to see their growth too. The pace is rapid. The romance is deepening but this is still not paranormal romance. Its urban fantasy and our heroines independence is a foundation of the story. Also, for English majors out there, the editing for the entire series is absolutely pristine.

Wow! I love, Love, LOVE this series, and this 3rd book was excellent!

What a deft touch this author has for writing the incredibly sympathetic bevy of protagonists that stomp angrily with love through the pages of this book… it’s impossible Not to be captivated by Imogen Grey and her compulsive need to absolutely protect those that she loves: Leroy, Raphael, Marigold, Bachman even (lol).

Surrounded by these and other, sometimes reluctant friend satellites (Sonja), Imogene’s personal growth is really a beautiful thing to bear (ha ha) witness too as her tale is told with mayhem, loss, and love.

A must read!

God smacked by this series !

This is the 3rd book in the series, and i have waited to review it because I was not sure what to say. Now I can say this series has covered everything I have wanted to read about, all kinds of bad monsters as well as good ones . magic, light and dark a bit of romance, a strong MC that can survive and learn even in death but she can step back and let others lead the show.
If you have a weakness about blood, skin and bone my only warning is there is a lot of vivid killing.
You will never know what will pop up next (literally)

I love this series!

This was another hilarious book in the Imogen Gray series. She finally admits she has feelings for Rafael but is of course interrupted by a “fiance” she did not know about. Meanwhile, the kids at the camp are in danger as well. It’s another hilariously awkward read. Imogen is still as violent and awkward as ever, but she is learning to love the people around her. And I can’t wait to see how the dynamic between her and Sonja develops. I love Sonja almost as much as I love Imogen. Looking forward to reading the next book!

Brandon is fun, I'm thinking about reading the next book only for him. But I just had enough of Rafael, and his perfect perfectness. At least he is not abusive. But the romance makes me wanna hang myself. Or them.

We all know who Imogen's father is. We also know what he meant when he said she had to live to die. The only point to continue would be because I love the characters, but I just don't like them enough to put up with the love at first sight bullshit.

I think I'll check out something else by the author

this woman can write

I just finished reading the third book in Lauretta Hignett’s Immortal series. Lauretta’s incredibly compelling storytelling and paranormal world building remind me so much of Mercy Thomson, the coyote Shapeshifter created and brought alive in the world by Patricia Briggs. Thank you Loretta for another incredible book series and the fun of getting carried away by the pleasure of the stories, and the richly developed characters. As my kids liked to say when they were younger, “you are the bomb“.

Half of the book was a romance half of it was action. While I wasn't that keen on the romantic part I really enjoyed the action. It was concentrated on the shifters and the youth centre and it was really good. Add some funny encounters with magical creatures, like a unicorn or salamander and some witty banter and you will laugh a lot. It's a pity that the romance between Imogen and Rafael gets so much space... although I have to admit that the stand off with the king of the east was intense... the writing is really really good and I devoured the book nearly in one go.

Loved this book! In actuality I read the first three books straight after each other. This series is addictive!
I love the snark, sarcasm and the character growth in this series.
Imogen has grown in leaps and bounds from book one to book three. I am loving her journey from loner to someone who now has a unique family of her own.
There’s plenty of action, intrigue, mythical/ magical creatures and general mayhem that seems to find Imogen and her friends.

This was SO good!

Its only getting better! I am such a fan and so glad I came across this series.

I was nervous about the Amazon title saying ‘A fun fast-paced..’ as I like quite dark themes for Urban Fantasy books, like realistic, grey characters that swear and feel unhappy emotions and the word ‘fun’ made me think it was cheery and no-one would discuss death but this book totally writes about EVERYTHING and I loooove that diversity in a story.

3.5/5. Wasn't feeling the story lines in this one, it felt lazy compared to the first two books. The Alphas, the Vampire King Wars, and Eriko. We didn't find out anything new about Imogen, and I don't think her father was even mentioned. I did like the ending with Rafael and Leroy, but the star of this show was Pepe. Unfortunately, we didn't see a lot of Pepe, so that left very little of interest. Here's hoping the final two books are better!

Huh, who would have thought that being human has its perks?

If you've read the previous 2 books, then you'll love this even more.
If you haven't started this series yet, you should definitely add it to your TBR list.

The female MC is a kickass, sarcastic, smart chick and the male MC is perfect for her in every way.

I really like this book so much more than I thought I would! Especially since this is a new author for me. Guess I now know where to look for more books.

fantastic paranormal romance adventure with new twists

I’ve read innumerable paranormal books, so when I find one that has all that I like-shifters, vampires, strong but vulnerable MC’s who fall in love, and a villain-I grab it. But this author has created a world and a character with a new twist: what’s it like being truly immortal? Having lived hundreds of thousands of years? And then realizing there’s still more in this world to learn and experience? Truly amazing series
