Sworn To The Gods

Rate this book
Four bound gods. One mortal woman. A choice to bring the fall of the empire.

I'm left with only bad options when the oaf determined to marry me hunts me down. It's either hide in the forbidden catacombs or be forced into a sham of a marriage, but there's a reason mortals avoid the crypts. Deep in the underground, I send up one last-ditch prayer to any gods listening.

I don’t expect one to answer, much less four.

There’s always a catch with men, and these gods are no different. Erebus, god of darkness, Eros, god of passion, Helios, god of sun and fire, and Thanatos, the dark god of death, all expect me to bond as their tether to the mortal world.

They're set on a dangerous quest to regain their powers. I know I’m in over my head, but I can’t deny I’m drawn to them—all of them. But there’s more at stake here than I can deny. Freeing the gods means an end to the empire as we know it… and learning to rely on someone besides myself.

This review is a work in progress since the series isn’t complete. I gave it 3 stars because the overall plot is creative and I love a good reverse harem.

However, the FMC (who is the main point of view throughout the most of book) finds out some veeeeery important information that the others AND the reader don’t get to know about????? I HATE when authors do this. It makes no sense for the reader to not know when the main character, who you learn the story from basically the entire book, knows. I can’t tell if the author did it to get the reader to continue the series, or what, but it’s annoying as shit. Just FYI.

Let me start by saying I’m not much of a fan of Greco-Roman Mythology. They top my list of the most horrendous deities ever devised by mankind, and the Abrahamic faiths believe their God killed every living thing on earth with floods and fire and all sorts of abominable catastrophes.

With that being said, when an author can entice me to want to read a book that focuses on the Greco-Roman pantheon they have accomplished something many others could not. When they can then hook my interest and keep me wanting to read more, then I consider them to be a great writer, at least as far as plot and storyline goes.

I really like this book. The story is truly incredible. I love the use of various mythologies and the relationships that form between the characters is realistic and believable. This is a fun story, that is interesting and entertaining with exciting plot points and lots of mystery.

I think the story benefits by the author’s choice to use lesser known deities for the MMC, instead of the ones most people are more familiar with. Specifically, Poseidon, Zeus, and Hades…I do hope to see others, such as Nyx, Morpheus, maybe even Charon. A girl can hope can’t she?

5 ⭐️s= Perfect story, exciting, engrossing, well developed complex characters, solid plot with few to no holes, descriptive environments and place settings, great mystery elements, realistic dialogue, believable reactions and behaviors, loved this story so much I’d buy it.

4 ⭐️s= Great story, highly entertaining and enjoyable, exciting storyline, well developed characters and settings, a few discrepancies but nothing that can’t be overlooked. Believable actions and reactions, realistic dialogue, a book I would consider buying.

3 ⭐️s= Good but not great story, noticeable discrepancies, grammatical and or spelling errors, undeveloped characters or unbelievable behaviors but still readable. Nothing majorly wrong with the story, just not interesting enough for me to continue. Would not buy the book.

2 ⭐️s= Not offended by the story, but not interested enough to finish. Unbelievable characters, poor writing, many mistakes, big holes or discrepancies, many spelling or grammatical errors, characters not believable, unlikeable or TSTL.

1 ⭐️= Offensive, extremely poor writing, horrible characters, victimization, gaslighting, blatant abuse, unnecessary violence, child endangerment, or any other highly objectionable behaviors by Main characters. Would never buy this book, and do not recommend it to anyone.

finding a good ‘why choose’ that balances both raunch and interesting plot is like finding a needle in a haystack. or, maybe, like, four needles in one haystack.

this book has all of my favorite things: gods, smut, prophecies, more smut (with two gods), evil governments in need of toppling, magic, and more smut (with three gods). still waiting on the fourth.

the concept is really cool, rooted in greek mythology, where we have a god of darkness that lavishes praise like it’s his full-time job, a god of love who wields make-you-orgasm magic (along with the ability to just, like, make things? cute dresses? comfortable beds? my taurus moon is quaking), a god of light that opens the door to a whole new world of temperature play, and a surly, grumpy, i-hate-you-for-your-own-good god of death.

these guys are trapped in some catacombs, thanks to ol’ dionysus, and can only break out with the help of a woman that they were prophecized to love. of course — that’s not the only element of the prophecy. *dun dun DUUUUUUUN*

eleni, our FMC, is feisty, with a love of the sea and fueled by an indomitable vengeance mission to topple the empire responsible for the murder of her mother.

this book weaves greek mythology together with smutty romance in a way that’s exciting and easy to read - it’s under 300 pages, so naturally i read it in a day - and sets up what feels like a fun, interesting, and hot story. there’s also some norse mythology thrown in there, which i suspect we’ll see more of in the subsequent books, so there’s truly something in this for everybody. perhaps four things for everybody.

my only gripe is the insta-love is so insta it requires major suspension of belief. but considering this is a book with four ancient greek gods, one whose c*m sizzles on the skin, suspension of belief is required on all levels.

this was fun, it was hot, and it was written well. the rare trifecta of enjoyable smutty literature. pick it up if you dream of being the sole object of obsession and desire by four giant, big-d*cked gods 😇

now brb while i fast forward to march for lexi’s why choose monster romance. where’s the click remote when you need it. 😭

🔥 “I cannot resist you. I am drawn to you like a moth to flame. I know it will burn, and I welcome it all the same.”
~~~
I absolutely adored Eleni! She’s so fierce and strong. I loved how caring, compassionate and uncompromising she is. And I absolutely adored her feistiness and sarcasm! Even more, Eleni is such a brave woman who’s not afraid to stand up for herself when facing either humans or powerful Gods. She’s a badass! Little did she know that Fate has plans for her that will irrevocably change her life.
For centuries, four Gods have been bound in the catacombs of Grecia - Eros, Erebus, Helios and Thanatos. Those males were absolutely magnificent - powerful, strong, dangerous, lethal, dominant, possessive and fiercely protective. I loved their different personalities so much! The cocky Eros always managed to make me laugh with his teasing. And I adored Erebus and Helios, too. But my little dark heart really fell for the angry and brooding God of Death.
I really loved everything that happened between Eleni and the four Gods! Fate’s bound them together and a prophecy predicts the downfall of the immortals falling for a mortal woman. Some of them even try to resist the undeniable attraction. But Eleni, Erebus, Eros, Thanatos and Helios fit so well together. I loved the tension, the banters and the passion they shared. Those five will be a force to be reckoned with and I can’t wait to see how their relationship will develop further.
In addition, the worldbuilding and storyline were spectacular! I absolutely loved the mix of fantasy and mythology. The gods lost interest in humanity and darker forces are in play. And nothing is what it seems. Even more, with all the prophecies, revelations and twists, I was glued to the pages till the very end!
Overall, the story is a marvellous start of the series! It’s filled with action, danger, suspense, monsters, satyrs, nymphs, Gods, secrets, twists, blazing hot romance and magnificent characters!
I absolutely loved every page of it and am super excited to see how the story will continue!
Generously giving this 3 stars.
There’s definitely a lot of mistakes that some proof-readers would have caught (mixed up names for certain characters, or plot holes, or situational problems for scenes, or spelling types of things). I also didn’t feel a real emotional connection between her & the 4 Gods, it felt more like the blood magic forced there to be some sort of lustful entanglements but they aren’t real. I also didn’t like them manipulating her with their powers (especially Eros & using his lust powers [or whatever you’d call it] on her). I never felt it was more than lust, especially on the Gods’ side of things. Some of the secrecy the main female character learns -towards the end, from the witch, but is not shared with the reader -is annoying. The ending was also annoying, as it’s a cliff-hanger, with no idea of when book 2 will be out. Not sure I would read book 2 at this point, but if it’s going to be more than a year out, I wouldn’t bother, as I wouldn’t want to re-read this book, as it wasn’t one to hold my complete attention, taking numerous breaks for drinks, snacks, to sit outside, just to put it down for a bit.
Eleni is a mortal from the city of Grecia that is under the rule of The Empire which has banned the worship of the old gods, making it punishable by death.
Four gods, Eros, Helios, Erebus, and Thanatos, have been trapped in the catacombs by Dionysus due to a prophecy they are involved in. The 5 blood bond in order to escape and exact their retributions.
Eleni is strong and shows no fear even when terrified. As the 4 gods get to know her more, they warm to her and lose their god-like, detached façade.
I’ve always found Greek mythology so interesting, and I love reverse harem tropes, so I thought I’d give this a try…I was not disappointed! It does end on a cliffhanger, which I’m not typically fond of, and if this series is longer than 2-3 I know I won’t finish it.
**Potential Spoiler** It does not become a full blown reverse harem in this first book (I would give away too much if I explained further).
In general books that feature God's & Goddesses are a fav of mine so this book was right up my street.
Eleni (FMC) gets into a dangerous situation that she can't get herself out of at the beginning of this book and when she gives a prayer/oath to save her life she becomes entangled in something she hadn't planned for. Namely 4 imprisoned God's - Erebus, Eros, Helios and Thanatos. Its a steamy as hell read but its also an engaging one too.
I liked how all of the God's had backstories (not all Happy ones) that made them more rounded as characters I thought. Also Eleni is a strong character within herself which I liked. Which she needed to be when contending with 4 God's. She handled everything that happened to her in this book with loads of wit and sarcasm which was funny too. This was a great start to this series and with that ending I can't wait to get my hands on book 2
Hunted by a man, the only solution left for Eleni to save herself is to enter a place that is rumored to be haunted and to put her life in the hands of the Gods to save her. The moment her pledge is answered, everything changes. But was it coincidence that led her to these Gods? Or is some higher force at play?
I think Sworn To The Gods is a well written story, but just not for me. I have a hard time with insta-love, and especially when immortal Gods and a mortal woman are involved. I finished the story and it has an interesting take on Gods and their influence on the world, but I just couldn't connect with the characters.
Skillful storytelling and lots of steam made this a very enjoyable read for me. Attraction and sexuall tension sizzle throughout the story as soon as Eleni meets her gods, but there is also plenty of suspense and action involved. The initial story arc gets resolved by the end of the book, but the beginning of the next part of our heroes' journey and plenty of hints will make the wait for the sequel a painful one. I also hope that we will get the hear Bryn's story and delve into Norse mythology later on!.
mixed feelings
I started this book based off a recommendation on a FB page… I got about 35% through and thought, “where is the hype for this book??”
Then I kept reading and I started getting less immersed/less interested.
There were several editing errors. Grammatical and plot driven. I was reading some scenes and the guys’s names were mixed up. It really pulled me out of the story.
I also feel like with stories about Greek mythology/gods, you can’t expect your reader to know the stories. If you’re going to mention a god offhand, you need to give a little context so your reader can follow along.
Overall it was a good read, those details just bugged me a little
it was a great read
This book was actually really awesome. The FMC wasn’t too standoffish or too weak. She was just right. And even though it was an Insta-something with all four of the gods, their personal relationships developed at different speeds, and it made it seem more realistic. I also appreciate the depth that was given to all of the characters and that the FMC was not a TSTL fool lol great spice that was also realistic and not over the top. I’m just really sad I can’t find the next one anywhere or if there is even a next one in the works.
4 Greek gods and one mortal.... What's a gal to do.... I can't wait until she melts the god of death's heart... Eleni is a badie... She's breaking the rules for a good cause, but when her journey home from the market leaves her in mortal danger she has no choice but to run and hide in the catacombs, calling on the gods for mercy! This journey seems full of peril and stubborn Gods and human women ! Can't wait to finish the series!!!!
Perfect balance of light and dark! 5+⭐️
“It’s not a question of what he wants with you, mortal woman. It’s a question of what we want with you. What we will do with you.”
I read this book in 1 day and couldn't put it down! There is a great mix of passionate and gentle gods and dark and brooding gods which keep the MC on her toes. Perfect story line with clear direction and amazing plots with twists and turns. I honestly cannot wait for the next book!
This book had some 4 star parts and some 1 star parts.
It needs more editing, quite a few typos and confusing scenes got pretty annoying to read.
I liked the premise and most of the characters, though Thenatos's assholery was getting really old.
I was losing interest in the end so I don't think I'll continue with this series, but I'm giving it an overall all 3 stars for originality and character development.
a lot of mixed feelings about this one… I wanted to love this, I really did, but it took me a lot of effort to get into it (it starts really dense and is heavy written) and then, even though I was interested in the plot and what would happen, I got bored halfway through. The idea of greek mighology, and the Gods and everything really sparks my interest and it’s really cool, I just think the author thought everyone would know about those and didn’t explain shit. The gods I liked. Erebus, Eros, Helios and Thanathos are the best of the story, we’ll see if thats enough for me to continue the series…
This is my first reverse harem novel, and I'm wondering why I ever shied away from it.
To summarize, I enjoyed this book. I knew right away that I would enjoy this one because it is a Greek-Roman-Norse myth.
Aside from good writing, I also appreciate the multiple points of view. The plot is quite intricate, but I believe there were some loopholes—small loopholes that I noticed—as well as some errors along the way with the shifting points of view and dialogues.
I'm not a big fan of instant love, but in this case, YES. I simply enjoyed it. The banter, the plot, and the characters are all good.
Right now, all I want is the second book.
